Was thinkin bout some of your Della+Lena tag commentary and it reminded me of the scene in NCSDD when Della sees Louie talking about how he's uncomfortable, and Della immediately understands it as Louie being scared and doesn't blame him... like, Della would empathize w/ both Lena (newcomer uncertain of her place) and the Sabrewings (trying to parent a scared kid who doesn't 100% accept them as parents yet), so she'd be in a really good position to understand the situation and give advice.

i’m really invested in della and lena being close (i HIGHLY recommend finding her place and trauma buddies by apearfectpearl on ao3 for content of them bonding). della is really perceptive and is good at both talking to people on their level and understanding where people are coming from, combine that with her intense familiarity regarding feeling like an outsider and she would be able to really get through to lena

i like to think the sabrewings also give della some advice in turn - parenting stuff she can use in conjunction with advice from donald and beakley. also one of the sabrewing dads will talk about film with her and she jumps at the chance whenever she gets it.
