Imagine the squad catching you and Nick flirting at work
Tumblr media
(A/N: For Anon, I hope you and everyone else enjoys this! Sorry for the long wait and that this is going up so late. Hope this is what you envisioned. I tried to make this a bit more suggestive than usual because I felt like that was in- character for Nick. Hope you don’t mind, always evolving! Also, I made Nick a Sergeant in this which I don’t think he was in the show but I remember him mentioning something about it in the last episode he was in)
Imagine the squad catching you and Nick flirting at work
“What are you doing?” You demanded as Nick drove passed the park.
“What do you think I’m doing Y/N? I’m driving us to work.” He countered, keeping his eyes on the road.
You narrowed your eyes and accused, “Why do you always do that?”
“Do what? Answer your questions?” He inquired.
“Question everything I say!” You replied, “If you had let me finish before being a smartass…”
“Then what you would have had time finished your stupid question?” He interrupted.
“Why are you being such a dick?” You demanded.
“Why are you asking me stupid questions at 6 in the morning?” He responded.
“I only asked because you may not have noticed but it’s Thursday,” You smirked, tapping at the dashboard screen that showcased the date prominently.
“So?” Nick shrugged.
“So,” You began, “You were the one that wants to hide our relationship from the others, therefore, should we not be acting like we normally would?”
“That’s what I’m doing. In the mornings we drive to work. Usually, separately so that’s why I’ve started parking a black away from the station so they think we cam separately,” He continued to explain obliviously.
“Nick, it’s Thursday.” You stated.
“Okay, and the sky is blue are we just stating obvious things for the fun of it?” He persisted.
“I jog to work on Thursdays!” You sighed dramatically, “You were supposed to drop me off at the park. We literally discussed it before we left.”
You watched as realization washed over him. A pained look developed on his face, the same look he gets whenever you’re right. Which is often, might you add.
“Sorry,” He finally muttered as he stopped and attempted to turn the car around.
“The jogging clothes should have been a giveaway,” You commented as he did.
“I already apologized, what more do you want my soul? My will to live? You’ve already taken it!” He sighed, his tone was almost playful.
“Why are you being so dramatic this morning?” You chuckled, “Are you worried about going back to work?”
“It’s not going back to work. It’s going back to work with you. Like being with you with you.” He offered, clearly frustrated.
“Oh like this is your first time going to work while being in a relationship with me?” You clarified for him. “Yeah,” He nodded.
“You could have said that you were nervous,” You comforted, giving his shoulder a squeeze and leaning on it briefly from the passenger seat.
“I’m just worried that someone might found out Y/N. We can get in serious trouble Y/N. I’m your Sergeant.” He sighed.
“Damn you for passing that Sergeant exam,” You cursed playfully.
“We just have to wait until you pass yours,” He reminded.
“You know that's a couple years away, right?” You reminded teasingly, “I’m much younger than you are,”
“I know. I’m just saying it so we know when we get there,” He shrugged off.
“You think that we’re going to last that long?” You asked, looking at him intently.
“Of course I do,” He said sincerely before glancing at you and meeting your gaze, “Don’t you?”
“Yeah,” You smiled, “I was just wondering if you felt the same way,”
“I can’t even describe how I feel about you,” He said sincerely, grabbing you hand and kissing it while simultaneously driving, “I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life. I’m going to spend the rest with you. I know that,”
“I hate it when you do that!” You pouted.
“What?” He prompted with a smirk.
“Be all sweet after being all mean,” You whined half-heartedly, “It makes it hard to be mad at you,”
“It all apart of my plan,” He teased as he pulled the car into the park.
“Listen,” You began in a serious tone, taking hold of his hands and enclosing them in his own, “I know you worried about today but don’t need to be. I have your back and I know we have to do this. I’m taking it seriously because it would be awful not getting to work with you every day. You’re my partner in and out of the bedroom,”
“And in life,” He offered, rolling his eyes at your humor.
“Yeah, that too,” You grinned.
“I love you,” He said before leaning in to kiss you.
“I love you too,” You replied after pulling away, “I’ll see you later,”
“Later,” He said as you climbed out the car, shut the door and gave him a wave before jogging down the path to meet up with your friends.
As you did butterflies swirled in your stomach and the most embarrassingly cheesy grin stayed on your face. It was a feeling and expression that developed and you’d had for a month now and you hadn’t been able to shake it. No matter how hard you tried but then again it wasn’t like you wanted to either.
One month ago you and Nick confessed your feelings for each other after he had been shot while saving you. And while he knew that he was in love you, his partner of almost two years at that point while you knew deep down but hadn’t wanted to accept how you felt because you were so scared it wouldn’t be reciprocated.
The first time you told him you loved him was when he was bleeding in your arms after being shot. And even though the pain he was in was probably unimaginable he still had the energy to smirk and tell you ‘who isn’t in love with this’ before confessing that he felt the same way about you. Then after that, he slipped to sleep due to blood loss from the gunshot wound.
Next time you saw him was a couple hour later after he was stitched up and given a lot of painkillers. From the second he woke up he wanted you by his side, holding your hand and telling you how he was so happy that you felt the same way. Only letting you leave when you had to or when someone else was visiting.
He was very conscious from the start to keep whatever you had a secret, fully aware that you couldn’t be in a relationship as you were partners and he was technically your superior now as he had just recently at that point passed the Sergeants exam. He loved his job and he knew how much you loved yours and didn’t want either of you to have to give it up. As well as you both wanted to continue working together. You both loved it and it was where you had fallen in love with each other. It was sacred and you wanted to maintain it for as long as possible.
Nick had been given a month off work and you had been given two weeks off as well after. He had been shot in the shoulder but he was feeling better after a week but he had to stay off work due to Doctors and your Lieutenant’s orders.
You had essentially had spent the past month at his place. Just spending time with him and of course doing other things. You were in love with each other but you needed time to establish your relationship and you did. So technically you’d been together for a month but of course, it wasn’t like a usual relationship because you already knew each other and in love. It was new ground for the both of you and you were both navigated it with every step, together.
You had already been back to work since getting into a relationship so while you knew you could handle hiding it very well, you knew Nick was worried about it. He wasn’t a natural actor like you were. You tried to reassure him that he just had to act natural. The relationship you had before it was very much like the one you had now just minus all the actual relationship aspect. After you had gotten comfortable and become friends with echo other, it leads to constant flirting, arguing and teasing. It was all in jest of course at the time but it obviously developed into something more for the both of you. You were essentially the same but instead of it ending in annoyed huffs and strops it ended it things that were much more fun.
“Good morning,” You greeted as you walked into the squad room, still sweaty from your run, heading for showers.
“Hey Y/N,” Sonny greeted, your desk was in front of Sonny’s, which meant as he was the only other person beside from Nick who was in the squad room as it was still early to be at work, “How was your run,”
“The usual, hot sweaty and tiring,” You smirked casually going through your mail briefly before calling out, “Hey Nick, welcome back!”
“Thank you,” He replied quickly, looking up even quicker.
“Um,” You said taken aback, “I’m going to take a cold shower,”
You didn’t move straight away. You waited and so did Sonny. Subconsciously, waiting for Nick’s usual comment but it never came. Even Sonny tossed you a confused look before glancing over his shoulder to look at Nick who kept his eyes down. You shrugged your shoulders as casually as possible in a desperate attempt to cover up Nick’s strange behavior. It was like he had forgotten how to act and the fact that he worked with Detectives trained to pick up on these little changes.
“Where is everyone?” You asked as you came back into the squad room after showering and getting dressed into actual work attire.
“Fin and Rollins are out chasing down a lead and Nick is with Liu in her office,” He informed, not looking up as you took a seat at your own desk.
“What do you think that’s about?” You inquired, citing as per usual.
“Probably just about settling back into work, I guess,” Sonny shrugged.
You glanced over to the shut door and bit your lip nervously, maybe this whole pretending thing wasn’t going to be as easy as you thought it would be.
“Are you okay?” Sonny asked suddenly.
“Yeah,” You said quickly turning back to meet his gaze.
“You seem jumpy,” He explained.
“I guess I am a bit off today,” You admitted, “Just weird having the Sarge back I guess?”
“Sarge?” He questioned.
“Well, he is our sergeant.” You reminded.
“Oh yeah,” He nodded in realization to your relief.
You breathed out as he engaged you in unrelated chatter. You kept on looking back at Liv’s door throughout, waiting for Nick to make sure he was okay.
When he did come out so did Liv and she called a meeting about your current case. During which she was explaining it all to Nick. Everyone, including Fin and Amanda who had returned with their suspect and had put him in an interrogation room, engaged with him to update on everything. And he engaged back as usual with everyone else except for you.
When you added your bit about the case he froze and was awaked and just generally not himself. And you know everyone noticed as everything went quite. You being you in awkward situations, overcompensated by talking too much and babbling about nothing. Everyone seemed to forget as you quickly diverted the conversation. But you shot him a look and he looked away from you and started to talk to Liv.
After it was all said and done and you all spilt off. You and Sonny headed back to your desks while Nick and Amanda headed off to talk to liv about something. Sonny pulled you aside gently, out of view but you could still see the squad room themselves.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Sonny asked once again, besides from Nick you were close to Sonny as well but definitely in more of the best friends sort of way.
“Yes, Sonny,” You stated, “Why do you keep asking?”
“Because something seems off,” He explained, “Is everything okay between you and Nick?”
“Yeah,” You responded quickly, probably too quickly, “Everything is fine,”
“He’s just not acting like himself, you know?” He commented, “No…”
“Teasing and flirting?” You offered.
“Yeah,” He agreed, “So I was just making sure,”
“He has been off for a while so I guess he is just getting back into the groove of things.” You suggested nervously.
“Fin and I were talking about it.” Sonny said, “We’re a bit worried about him,”
“Well, he did get shot Sonny,” You reminded.
“I know.” He nodded, “Just making sure okay and that everything is okay between the two of you. I know how much you care about him despite all that arguing the two of you do,”
“You have no idea,” You laughed nervously but you hid it well.
The day went on and Nick was acting more and more strangely. He was avoiding you and you knew that everyone was noticing that something was between the two of you. You were playing it off well and deflecting everyone's suspicions but your excuse was only going to last for a certain amount of time.
You waited until you talk to Nick about it without the prying eyes of your suspicious squad. You found a window when Liv was in her office, Fin was out and Amanda and Sonny were in interrogation. Nick was observing it. You slipped in and went to the controls and lowered the volume of the interrogation slightly, knowing that it wasn’t going to go anywhere usual for the case.
“Hey,” He protested, “What are you doing?”
“Why are you acting so strange?” You demanded, decided just to be straight to the point.
“No, I’m not.” He defended immediately, acting like himself again, “I’m acting like I usually would,”
“Oh please, don't give me that!” You hissed, “You’ve been avoiding me and you’ve been acting strange,”
“No, I haven’t!” He stated with false adamance.
“Babe,” You whined, with a sigh of frustration. “You didn’t make a comment when I said I was going to take a cold shoulder or when I was wearing my yoga pants and they were extra tight so I know you wanted to say something. And during the briefing, you acted like you didn’t even know who I was. Babe, you got help me out here,”
“Alright, maybe I’m acting a bit off,” He finally agreed reluctantly.
“You’re telling me!” You breathed, “People are starting to notice and their asking questions.”
“What have you been saying?” He inquired.
“That you’re just in your adjustment period,” You informed.
“That is a terrible excuse. I’ve been ready to come back for three weeks,” He commented.
“I wouldn’t have had to if someone was good at sticking to the plan,” You accused, hitting him playfully with a sulky look.
“Okay,” He gave in, “I’ll admit I don’t know how to pretend that I’m not in love with you,”
“How did you do it before?” You asked.
“I didn’t. You did.” He reminded.
“This is so hard,” You breathed.
“I know,” He agreed, coming to stand beside you and taking your hand, “I’m going to try harder but I just can’t shake this feeling you know? I just want everyone to know that you’re mine and that I was lucky enough to get you,” He explained.
“Aww,” You murmured shyly, blushing, “I guess I can forgive you but we really need to fix this. I always thought a secret office would make things sexier,”
“They do but they also make things complicated,” He added.
“You would think that we would be used to complicated by now,” You commented.
“Maybe it’s because things aren’t complicated that’s hard to be like we were used to. We have to face that it’s not the same as before,” He suggested.
“Well, maybe we should do a transition into whatever we decide this is. And that be our new normal. That won’t be too suspicious. If we change certain aspects. All relationships evolve,” You suggested.
“I like that idea,” Nick agreed.
“And you’re are a terrible actor,” You added jokingly.
“I’m a great actor,” He defied.
“Are not. Today is my evidence,” You countered.
“Well, you aren’t any better,” He commented.
“I’m not the one whose been arousing suspicion all day,” You interrupted to mention.
“Not today but remember that undercover op couple months ago,” He reminded teasingly with smirk, “The one in Tribeca,”
“I thought we weren’t going to bring that up,” You muttered annoyed.
“But it proves my point,” He shrugged smugly.
“I was distracted,” You stated.
“And why was that?” He probed, still smirking profusely.
“Because you look really good in a suit,” You mumbled under your breath.
“Didn’t know you liked me so much,” He joked, flexing his arms playfully.
“I wouldn’t stick around if I didn’t,” You mentioned, “Though I’d just like to mention that that suit wouldn’t have the same effect on me know,”
“And why is that” He prompted.
“Because I’ve recently learned due to unexpected circumstances that you look much better without it on,” You flirted, “Without…anything…on,”
 “Careful,” He warned.
“What?” You teased, taking a step towards him and getting closer to him, “Am I making you nervous?”
“No,” He played along but you could tell he was getting flustered by your proximity before whispering, “I just know I won’t be able to control myself if you keep on going,”
“I can tell,” You teased, glancing down, before taking a step back and ending up standing beside him, leaning against the shelf and looking into the interrogation room.
“You’re impossible,” He said, lowering himself down slightly so he was at your level as he leaned against it with you.
“I’m much easier on people I’m not sleeping with,” You joked.
“I can’t decide if it’s a good thing or bad thing,” He chuckled, looking right at you.
“It’s a good thing,” You said, turning towards him and leaning in slightly, “You need to keep up,”
“I think we both know that I am,” He said, before leaning in himself.
You both went for it, closing your eyes and momentarily forgetting where you were. You were about to touch when the door sprung open and you both jumped back and scrambled to compose yourselves. You both looked over and saw Fin looked at the both of you suspiciously.
“Am I interrupting?” Fin asked, amused.
“No. Yes.” You and Nick said at once simultaneously, him giving the yes and you giving the no.
You shot him a warning look.
“Y/N thinks she’s a better actor I am and I’m just explaining how she is wrong as per usual,” He explained, giving you a sly look.
“I’m always wrong?” You defended, instinctively, “Did you get a concussion too when you got shot because I don’t think you remember how this relationship works. I'm always right and you are always doing something or say something stupid and not to mention incorrect.”
“When am I ever wrong?” He demanded.
“Right now,” You stated adamantly, “You’re a terrible actor.”
“Are you going to give any information to back up this information or are you going to continue to spread this misinformation?” He inquired cheekily.
“And I was worrying that you to lovebirds we having some trouble in paradise,” Fin commented grabbing the files he was looking for before walking out the door again.
“What was that?” You demanded.
“And you said I was a bad actor,” Nick smirked, ignoring your question and brushing an invisible piece of lint off his shoulder.
You rolled your eyes and gave him a gentle shove.
“God, you’re annoying,” You commented.
“But you love me anyway,” He winked wrapping an arm around you and pulling you close.
“Less and less by the second,” You teased, leaning up, just to place a brief kiss on his lips.
