i want stormbringer animated so bad bc the fact that like. 75% of the fandom has no idea what happens in it apart from like dazai saying he thinks abt chuuya every waking and sleeping moment, jokes abt dead flags, dazai living in a shipping container, and the vaguest understanding of chuuyas time in the lab. makes me sad. but also. do i trust bones to take it seriously? no.
#they wld fisheye chuuya in so many instances bruh.#also i dont trust them with shirase#HOWEVER. i Need to see lippman animated. prettiest character ever (canon! ask chuuya.)#and i rlly wanna watch rimlaine angst#WAHHHHHH#soukoku

Me explaining Stormbringer plot but I haven't read it and all my knowledge comes from vague points in fics and Wikipedia and fans talking about it
- Paul is kinda like chuuya 2.0 With his Gravity manipulation and Brutalization parallel to corruption
-Rimbaud and Paul exchanged names..? Ig, Idk why
-Paul is the King Assassin and Agatha hates him..? He also killed UK's queen
- Rimlaine had a bad breakup and tried to kill each other because they disagreed on what should be Chuuya's future. Raised by villagers and not knowing his identity or Go to Europe and get experimented on, choose your fighter
- They both thought the other was dead
- Rimbaud lost memories and Paul got crazy
- Chuuya is having a identity crisis over his humanity, that's like the 70% plot of Stormbringer
- Paul is also having a Identity crisis over humanity and that's the rest 30% plot
- For once Dazai isn't having a crisis
- Rimbaud being alive would have solved the problem NGL
- Morally questionable Romantic movements
- The other Transcendents are dead, William Shakespeare, victor Hugo etc I think
- Wait why isn't Wells not in Stormbringer?? What's the point of having time traveling ability if you aren't stopping stuff damm
- Mori is awfully enjoying the commotion
- We also have Flags aka Chuuya's friends with really weird names
- like who named y'all Pianoman , Lippman , Doc etc!??? And why
- I don't think they have abilities..?
- They die , Paul kills them idk why
- Chuuya refuses to see his biological parents idk why
- I think they sold him to government but not sure
- Paul get his ability weakned forever after fighting soukoku???? I again don't know why
- Mori's whole motive in Stormbringer is to see his Ship Soukoku getting canon, reletable
- He cried over Rimbauds grave or something and got a vision or something
- Join PM as an executive..? Why
- But lives in Basement because of grief, understable
- He trained gin and kyouka

Traditional omegaverse society
Alpha or enigma dazai/omega chuuya
Either royalty, mafia or yakuza heir or rich company heir what is important is that chuuya run away.
He did that before presenting
Dazai and chuuya are engaged since childhood have this relationship like in swan princess they didn't get along, both hated this engagement.
But it's also chuuya hated this and hated him and while dazai is just as antagonistic ( well like their canon antagonism he's also really possessive that his fiance he was promised to him ).
also dazai was smaller than chuuya in their childhood ( i also have this idea of peoples making assumption dazai as omega, chuuya as alpha).
Chuuya was with with others peoples, have even tried mating out with others but got caught.
Then After he run away chuuya present as omega he met either the flags, rimlaine or kouyou and while he have trouble like his omega status and money trouble he's free like he never have been before, from his obligation and from his engagement to dazai.
While he try not because he will be happy to never hear about him again for the rest of his life, he hear about dazai because it's impossible not to.
( they're many rumor about oda, kunikida ect) , dazai have inherited his legacy and he found chuuya ( he never stopped searching for him ) chuuya benefactor got into debt and he use that against chuuya to get him back.
Chuuya could also have been courting someone else but dazai put a stop to that, he had to go to dazai estate and he feel like a bird in cage but they learn to know each others better and to get along.

are there any other bsd ships you like? and do you have any favourite platonic pairings?
Ohoho this is gonna get controversial probably 😭
Whatever. This is my account. Yes, I do!! None of them have as much of a grip on me as soukoku does, but I do like some other ships. I think I’m just gonna make a little tier list of them:
Chuusano/Chuuaki/whatever you wanna call Chuuya x Yosano. This is the most controversial one I think (specifically bc it’s literally my second favorite ship) sheksj I HAVE A VISION OK
Atsulucy 🫶
Fukufuku‼️
Higugin. They are so Chappell Roan to me
Fyolai
Shin soukoku
Ranpoe. Ofc ofc
Odango except I always forget they exist
Rimlaine except I also always forget they exist
Kousano. On very rare occasion. Mostly AUs
Fyoya but like. In a very specific very manipulative very toxic very not-actually-love kind of way… Idk how to explain this one 💔 It’s a certain Vibe
Fyozai but in a very one-sided, implicit, subtextual way. This is has only joined the roster recently because I’ve been trying to understand Fyodor better for fic reasons + I assisted a discussion about Crime and Punishment despite not having read the book yet and I get the vision strictly because of it. I’ll form some more opinions once I have actually read the book… Take this one with a huge grain of salt until then
As for platonic pairings that I like:
I also…… I also really like Chuuya & Yosano as a platonic pairing… I swear I’m normal about them
Dazai & Atsushi
Yosano & Ranpo
Atsushi & Kyouka
Hirotsu & Soukoku, likewise Hirotsu & Dazai and Hirotsu & Chuuya. They are all at the same rank
Dazai & Ranpo
Akutagawa & Atsushi. I honestly prefer them as a platonic pairing, or at the very least somewhere between plantonic and romantic
Kouyou & Chuuya. On occasion
Dazai & Yosano but STRICTLY in an AU, and they’d also rank much higher if this was about AUs. I don’t think they’d ever get along in canon
I think that’s about it? Have a nice day and thank you for the ask!! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂)⸝♡

BSD college!AU headcanons pt.5
TWs: crying, mentions of bad chronic pain days, Dazai-typical mentions of sewerslide, thoughts about sewerslide and SH, mentions of OCD, mentions of child abuse, mention of heart palpitations, very slight mentions of breaking down, mentions of panic attacks
Despite everything, they all obviously aren't as mentally fucked as in the canon universe in this.
Pairings: Kunichuuzai, Mushiranpoe, Shin Soukoku, Suegiku, Shibufyosiggol, Montcott, Bramcraft, also it isn't specifically mentioned that they are together/married but married!Rimlaine
Fyodor and Dazai are besties/ childhood best friends in this. Nothing more or less.
---------------------------------
Jouno and Tecchou are engaged in this
But like nobody knows. They don't keep it a secret though
Nikolai actually cries or at least tears up a lot. He just tries to hide it most of the time since back in the orphanage from which he fled as a child, crying was seen as showing weakness and it usually ended up with the caregivers screaming at him so by now he tries to act all goofy and cheerful when he feels the lump in his throat again and when he feels that his eyes start to burn again.
He still starts to cry/tear up often and easily
The shower drain in the shower of Fyodor's, Nikolai's, Sigma's and Shibusawa's dorm is regualry clogged with long white hair
Sigma actually fishes his hair out of the drain after he showered/washed his hair but especially Shibusawa doesn't do so
Shibusawa is usually so chaught up in his thoughts that he forgets to fish his hair out of the drain or he is simply too lazy to do so.
He also finds getting the hair out of the drain disgusting so he simply doesn't does it which is a problem since he has the longest and thickest hair out of them.
Nikolai genuienly just forgets to fish the hairs out. He is like four steps further in his mind already after leaving the shower and is working on autopilot then.
Shibusawa generally blocks the bathroom for up to an hours since this man has a like 15 step long selfcare routine (skincare, taking care of his hair, make up, washing himself in general, styling his hair, etc.)
Fyodor, Sigma and Nikolai love thier boyfriend dearly but this sometimes drives them insane. Especially when they have a thight schedule.
Dazai often hang around at Nikolai's, Fyodor's, Sigma's and Shibusawa's dorm, lying on thier bed and chatting with Fyodor while the latter is sitting on his desk, working on his PC.
Chuuya gets at least three calls a week by his older brother Verlaine in which the latter is checking in on how Chuuya is doing and asks if everything is alright or if he has to come over to kick some asses
Chuuya thinks it's a tad annoying. Especially since he's 22 by now and not a child anymore and also since he can kick asses himself perfectly fine
Kunikida thinks it's cute/nice that Verlaine cares so much about his younger brother
Arthur Rimbaud is more chill about the whole topic. He chats with Chuuya regulary but not really to check in how he's doing but more in order to gossip with Chuuya
It's not like he wouldn't care about Chuuya, he kinda raised him too after all and knows him since he's 6 years old, but he trusts Chuuya enough to tell him if something is seriously wrong and he also thinks that he himself is able to tell if something is wrong.
Arthur is more of a chill and funny "parent" in a strange way. He's calm but he can be so damn sarcastic and is able to roast people in ways were they struggle to find a come back
He's calm yet chaotic and chill about a lot of things and Chuuya loves it
He's also more open minded when it comes to Chuuya's relationships and gives his parters a chance while Verlaine wants to strangle Dazai since the day he first met the other
Bram owns a grey nightgown with small little, realistic looking bats printed on it and he loves it
Fitzgerald is the funny, chill yet weird buisness management professor
Sigma can't decide if he likes him or if he finds him annoying/if he makes him uncomfortable
Fitzgerald made a joke about Sigma's name at least once
Fyodor sometimes dances with one of his boyfriends in thier dorm
One time he danced with Sigma to one of the latters favorite songs when Sigma had a bad day
One time, Fyodor took the lead while Sigma leaned his head against Fyodor's shoulder, closing his eyes and letting himself feel safe and comforted
Dazai just randomly bursting into Fyodor's dorm at the most random times is a thing (Dazai has key to thier dorm for whatever reason just like Fyodor has a key to Dazai's and Chuuya's)
If Bram has a horrible pain day, he stays at his dorm, lying in his bed, not going out or to any lectures and tries to survive the day somehow
Lovecraft also always comes over then
He is at Bram's dorm most of the time anyways
He will bring Bram some books, makes him tea and keeps him company
He knows that there isn't much to make his partner feel better/ to ease the pain but he's still there for him
Often Bram just tries to sleep it off, just like he does with everything else which plagues/bothers him and even theny, Lovecraft will stay by his side, often falling asleep too but still being avilable whenever Bram should need something
Sometimes Bram starts to cry silently out of frustration and pain and while he hopes that Lovecraft won't notice it, the other will always notice it
He then asks if there is anything he can do and if there isn't anything he will simply ask Bram if it would be okay if he lies down next to him, holding him
If Bram gives the okay, he will lie down next to the other, hugging him carefully, not touching his legs and pelvic bone at all, not wanting to cause any more pain and lets Bram cry silently
They don't need any words then. Lovecraft being there is enough then.
Often Bram ends up dozing off when the pain gets a bit lesser and since he is exhaused from crying and usually Lovecraft dozes off right after making sure that Bram is asleep and as well as he can be in such a situation
Each and every time Jouno and Tecchou are in the cafeteria together, there will be a huge discussion about Tecchous food combinations
It's kind of entertaining to watch
Mushitarou has heart palpitations which come from him being stress 90% of the time and from his OCD and they get worse whenever he has a lot of stress again
When Chuuya gets very emotional, angry or irritated, his french accent gets audible and can get pretty thick
Dazai thinks it's adorable
Chuuya dropping french curse words here and there is a thing
Ranpo and Jouno often wear noise canceling headphones in the cafeteria if it's super crowded
All of them are either majoring or minoring in litrature so they often suffer together when they have short deadlines or ask each other what they've wrote for a creative writing assignment
Poe and Chuuya check each others poems
They surprisingly get along super well
Chuuya and Ranpo don't really get along though
Sigma sometimes bakes way too much cookies and brings some cookies to other dorms
Poe can be quiet sarcastic when he's in surroundings where he feels safe
Poe basically trained Karl to also function as a service animal so now he's not only a friend, pet and collegue to him but also a big help when he's getting a panic attack again
Karl will start to nudge Poe and pull on his clothes when the latter is too chaught up, spiraling in his thoughts to notice that he's starting to have a panic attack again
As soon as he is aware of what's happening, Karl will go and search for Ranpo or Mushitaro (or both) and will drag on thier clothes, nudge them and will even bite them in thier ankles if necessary (Poe didn't thought him this. He started doing this himself. Poe scolded him once for it but he keeps doing it when they aren't realizing what's going on or if they won't pay attention which happens rarley thaught.) He then shows them where Poe is.
As soon as they are taking care of his owner, he will bring Poe a bottle of water and some sweets and will proceed to cuddle and lick his cheeks or hands then.
Sometimes he also lies down on his lap as if he's trying to calm down and comfort Poe
If they are in public, he will also get super defensive and tries to keep people who aren't Ranpo or Mushitaro away from Poe
After Mushitaro joined thier relationship and after Karl started to accept having to share Poe with yet another person, he surprisingly started to act them same way when Mushitaro was getting a panic attack or was close to breaking down again
Atsushi spends a lot of his free time at the cafe down the street where his best friend Lucy is working
He spends hours chatting with her, lets her rant about rude cutomers and helps her out sometimes
Louisa is also often in the cafe, visiting her girlfriend
Lucy will always make herself some free time for them
She will always ask Louisa how she's doing, how college is and if anyone dared to bother her
She can and will waltz into the college and she will absolutly destory any person who dared to make Louisa feel bad
She also always praises her girlfriend, makes her her favorite drinks, gives her her favorite pastries and also tries to stop her from overworking herself once again
She is a bit lesser soft to Atsushi (or to any other person who isn't Louisa) but that doesn't mean that she wouldn't care about the other
If she knows that Atsushi will visit her at the cafe again, they will have "coincidentally" his favorite pastry in store and if he forgot his money at his dorm, she will give him the meal on the house "but just this once!"
It will always be "on the house" then
If Atsushi is struggling with college stress, she will roast him for choosing to go to college instead of starting to work like her but she will then offer him support in her very own ways
In general, she supports the most of them during exam season and cares about Atsushi's and Louisa's friend group greatly
She is also the reason why Atsushi, Dazai, Kunikida, Chuuya,Fyodor,Nikolai, Bram, Lovecraft, Steinbeck, Louisa, Higuchi, Gin, Akutagawa, Sigma, Shibusawa, Ranpo, Poe, Mushitaro and Yosano are allowed to make thier study sessions on fridays and why they are allowed to stay there, even after the shops closing hous, especially during exam phases
Atsushi sometimes brings Akutagawa or Akutagawa and Gin with him to the cafe
Lucy doesn't really like Akutagawa a lot but as long as Atsushi is happy she doesn't mind
Atsushi loves watching series for kids when he's stressed
Dazai sometimes doesn't trust himself while showering at all, especially not when his mental health is worse again, so he sometimes manages to ask Chuuya or Kunikida if they could sit in the bathroom while he's showering so that they can jump in if he tries or does anything funny
Of course they will never deny the request and join him in the bathroom, not looking or judging him
Usually Chuuya sits on the floor with his back against the shower door, playing video games on his Ninentdo or working on his tasks for college while occasionally asking Dazai if everything is okay in there or just randomly chatting with the younger
Kunikida on the other hand often sits on a chair somewhere in the bathroom or also sits on the floor with his back against the shower door, working on his tasks or fixing some issues in his schedule
He never rests tbh
As soon as Dazai is taking way too long, the water is on for way too long, Dazai goes a bit too quiet, they don't hear any movements anymore or as soon as something feels off, even if it's just Dzaai's voice if he replies to something they said, they will get alerted, put away whatever they are doing and knock on the door, asking if everything is okay. if Dazai won't reply they will ask if it's okay if they can come in or go in.
This was only the case once though and luckily nothing dangerous happened. Dazai had started to get too chaught up in dark thoughts and was close to breaking down so Chuuya turned off the water, gently got Dazai back in the here and now, calmed him down, carefully wrapped him up in soft towles and took him out of the shower where he sat him down on the bathtub and tried him off before leading him to thier beds, brining some pyjamas and informing Kunikida about what happened
The other came to thier dorm immediatly, where Chuuya was currently lying in bed with Dazai, holding the other and caressing his back, trying to cheer him up a bit
Kunikida then lied down next to Dazai, hugging him too and asking him how he was doing
They spend the rest of the evening lying in bed, talking about lighthearted stuff and talking shit about people while cuddling thier boyfriend
Nikolai loves gossiping with Sigma while he is doing his make up
He is always super curious about what happened at the casino again
Nikolai and Sigma love playing animal crossing, just like Dazai, Ranpo and Atsushi
Dazai is basically only causing chaos on the islands of others though
Chuuya, Kunikida and Dazai play so much video games together
When Dazai found out that Bram's name was actually Abraham and that "Bram" only was short for it, he was pretty dumbfounded and acted all offended afterwards because how could Bram not tell him such a thing
Bram was basically just like "What"
He infact never told anyone besides Lovecraft. Dazai only found out because he saw Bram's student ID
Not that he wants to keep it a secret tho.

Can you expand on Rimlaine in your zombie au? 👀
oh i sure fucking can. warning for self destructive behavior a little greater than canon because i did some rather messed up things to make them work!
I kind of gave them a bit of a "you're the only person in this town crazy enough to handle me" dynamic but more of as a quarantine measure because nobody else wanted anything to do with either of them. My explanation of how I translate their abilities and dynamic into this universe is kind of long so I'm putting this under a cut!
so, i spend a lot of time in this au trying to translate everyone's abilities into an ability-less zombie au. rimbaud's ability in translation kind of got broken down into two main parts: compartmentalization and control. in an ability, this is his ability subspace, and the manipulation of the rules within it.
now. we know rimbaud is kind of nuts. we also know that in canon he's used his ability to keep himself "alive" when he should have died.
you're probably reading this going okay cou, that's cool and all, but where's the zombie apocalypse part? well, resistance to death, compartmentalization, and control? rimbaud is going to survive several zombie attacks. in the most fucked up way.
i've mentioned my zombie virus's function is, among some other diseases, based upon rabies. rabies spreads pretty slowly in the body, through nerves. so if rimbaud gets bitten? he's not going down so easy. compartmentalization and control - he just fucking cuts off a solid chunk of whatever part of him just got bit before the wound has a chance to spread then carries on. (note: i do not know if this would work with real rabies nor do i recommend it. this is science fiction! i do what i want!)
so we've got rimbaud, who just lops off chunks of himself when he gets attacked to survive. he develops a bit of a reputation for this. after all, in canon, he's a powerful ability user. why wouldn't he be of high reputation (with people a little afraid of him) in this world, too? he's known for having ways of "dealing with" zombies.
now, verlaine. he, like chuuya, is an experimentally "cured" zombie (not cured. still zombie. just... staved off.) he's still dangerous and unstable to a point. the experimental cure is rather miserable and not super effective (most just die when its attempted). he's still very much infected with the zombie virus, but it won't be getting much worse, save for occasional "slips" of fun zombie brain moments (not fun in the slightest). shoutout to @/squidsandthings for giving me another virus type to look into for ideas on how these slips work!!! i love taking inspiration from real life diseases to make this work.
so after verlaine gets essentially thrown to the wolves after the zombie treatment, he gets passed off into the care of pretty much the only guy who can put up with someone that's just a zombie with a still functional brain, aka rimbaud.
yes, verlaine has bitten rimbaud a few times. this is fine though. remember how rimbaud literally gives himself up for verlaine at the end of stormbringer? i'm carrying that over, here, with rimbaud literally being willing to chop bits of himself off to keep verlaine around. and in return verlaine is the only person around not dismally horrified of rimbaud... Doing That.
i wanted at least someone to be kind of happier than in canon somehow in this universe so i'm allowing rimlaine to at least get to stay together without that separation they have in canon. but also one constantly runs the risk of killing the other either accidentally or out of necessity.
i also really wanted to create the rimbaud & dazai parallels of "immunity" of a sort, though rimbaud's is a distinctly different flavor of immunity since its very self-wrought.
so there you have it! that's the rimlaine zombie au dynamic. they're both miserable and having a bad time but at least they're having a bad time together. (fun fact! they can't like. kiss or anything. because, like rabies, the zombie virus can be spread through mucus membranes ((like mouths!)) i can make them as canon as i want and it still doesn't do either of them any good! <3)

Just thinking about this on the side here, but if anyone recalls the SKK/Rimlaine comparison thing I used for a while in my original Rimlaine essay to prove a point, an addition to it crossed my mind.
I’m aware it’s quite long, but I would very much recommend reading what I’m going to be referencing here for the sake of context, and also for all necessary disclaimers which apply to this post as well.
I’m not too sure if this is anything particularly worthwhile, though I feel that I would have put it in the essay itself if it were to be anyhow crucial for whatever reason, and it’s also not something I can prove with any kind of evidence since I’m merely speculating about certain matters, so please take it as such. Regardless, out of my own curiosity, I was thinking back on those two ships and why, even though I claim both are unhealthy/toxic (in my personal opinion, that is), I still seem to give the slightest bit of leeway to Soukoku and their fans as opposed to Rimlaine despite having no bias towards it or anyone who happens to like it, and while I did give some brief explanation in my essay which I will doubtlessly echo here as well, I think a part of it might have something to do with the way I see the majority of their fanbases portray the pairs.
Two disclaimers upfront— first, this is by no means going to be a “professional analysis” of anything, unlike the aforementioned essay, rather my own opinionated rant which you should take with a grain of salt, but nonetheless, it’s something which interested me. Second, keep in mind that when I refer to “the majority”, I do mean the majority for both cases from my own experience and all I’ve seen on various sites, which naturally does not mean every single person who happens to enjoy either of those ships— just enough people for me to see a pattern.
While I enjoy neither of those pairings and generally stay away from content of them unless I want to actually research and explore it, for lack of better terms, there is something very distinct slightly frustrating me about many posts in only one of these circles and not the other, even if I set all of my own character preferences aside, and my current theory is that perhaps there are a lot of canonical details and facts ignored or purposely omitted without the intention of creating any speculative alternate universes about what the story could have been if certain events didn’t happen or certain characters had different pasts, characteristics, etc., rather being treated as the unaltered, canonical ship itself, in Rimlaine spaces a lot more often than in Soukoku spaces. While there are specifics in which this could be argued about or ones where I’d actually take the opposite stance, I’m talking about a highly general perspective here, and what I mean by this is that what makes Soukoku unhealthy in my eyes is also its very essence in the eyes of many, many shippers I’ve come across— often times, it’s not so much about their complicated bond with each other and intrinsics one could spend a lot of time analyzing and weaving their own theories about, but the simple premise of an “enemies to lovers” ship whose main appeal is commonly their crassness towards each other, their fighting and bickering or all their harsh interactions we get to see on basic surface level. I might have hinted or briefly mentioned this in my essay as well, but I haven’t really made it a point of much attention to myself, so only now am I actually realizing this— most people cannot take away this aspect of the SKK dynamic in any content they make of them as it’s widely accepted and understood as the main core of it, the main driving point for both shippers who enjoy it in a more casual way and those who make great efforts to dive deep into every second of time the pair hold any relevance to each other. To erase it would be to practically create a whole different ship (which some do as well, of course, but I’m certainly not here to give my thoughts on such matters), and while it would be expected of me to claim that I see no reason as to why Rimlaine seems to not be treated this way as well, instead becoming either extremely sanitized or just outright unrecognizable, I sadly get the feeling I do, in a sense.
I believe that for many, the essence of Rimlaine has, just like in Soukoku’s case, also been widely accepted as a particular well-known trope— however, it only barely represents what it is in canon. I did mention some tropes in my essay too, but one thing I’ve noticed only as I started writing this is the differences between them individually and what exactly they speak of. To refer back to both the former paragraph and my original set of posts, the ones mentioned were essentially “enemies to lovers”, “hating everyone but one”, “running out of time” and “missed opportunities”, should I put them in very simple summaries, yet I can place these into certain broad categories— the first two would belong into one which describes behavior patterns between the characters, all while the others mainly describe events or situations, not necessarily anyone’s bonds or ways of communication, actions and so on, which could potentially explain why Rimlaine differs from Soukoku here.
For some, the core of those two will be something similar to the second mentioned trope, with the most important aspect being either matters to do with Paul’s hatred of the world and the complete opposite that his partner was, or even Arthur’s care for him which he held for no one else, but I often see a slight nuance related to this— in Rimlaine’s somewhat special case, both the former and the latter can be understood the exact same way as Soukoku’s behaviors are, this being an inherent part of each character respectively and something which creates their dynamic itself, yet this ship has an additional layer of the way their story arc ended in Stormbringer, which ties both of those points to that very ending and either of the last two mentioned tropes rather than a part of both Arthur and Paul’s personalities. In this manner, it doesn’t separate the pair and pay attention to them more as individuals, even in an extremely watered down sense like the basis of Soukoku does, but it ties them to their story together instead. Unlike with Dazai and Chuuya, where most people aren’t focused on leading towards either an “end” or specific story point which is also a key factor for defining a certain popular ship premise created by various occurrences and narratives, rather looking at how the two see each other or even how they speak towards each other, work together, trust or distrust each other and so on, in Arthur and Paul’s case, most are focusing precisely on Stormbringer’s epilogue and the aftermath of it, which was the event fully driving home two points for a lot of readers— one, Arthur cared enough to do anything, even sacrifice whatever remains of his life were left for his partner, and two, Paul finally realized his gratitude and regret towards the other, even though it was too late for it. Still, it seems to me that many aren’t looking at both them and these points of interest from the very start of their relationship or even their development and dark path onwards, rather from the end, as that’s precisely the moment where some people will suddenly find a sorrowful tale they would wish to explore, and that is the thing that becomes their defining feature— it has quite little, dare I say sometimes nothing to do with their personalities, how they affect each other, treat each other and whatnot, but everything to do with the events which transpired between them and culminated into something one could define in a mere four or two words, just as I did above.
This way, unlike in Soukoku’s case, you can take away the aspect which, for me, qualifies this ship as a toxic, if not outright abusive one, because it hasn’t been made the actual essence of it for a certain community, although I do have to point out that despite this, you can also take away the element which does serve as such, purely because by itself, it doesn’t necessarily define their hypothetical relationship in the case these events did not occur. While yes, the full context of that chapter certainly speaks volumes about how the characters felt about each other both post-SB’s epilogue and preceding it, for many who haven’t been focusing on them from the start or simply chose to overlook all else, it will “begin” precisely at this hopeful-yet-hopeless place from which the main foundations to one’s personal experience of the ship will be developed instead of letting those take roots in the clearly unhealthy baseline dynamic that continues without a light at the end of the tunnel for both novels the pair are featured in. Of course, the vast majority of people in the Rimlaine community are very well aware of the pair’s past, as how the characters come to know each other or develop a connection is often a crucial or at least somewhat meaningful part of any ship, this one included, yet all such matters of the past ultimately culminated in something, instead of being treated as ongoing and inherent to both Arthur and Paul respectively— an event that has the spotlight shined on it thanks to its tragedy. While the centre of Soukoku are mostly their constant friendly-yet-hateful interactions people quite literally flock to them for the sake of, the centre of Rimlaine is pretty much just the above— plain tragedy. Doomed by the narrative, doomed by circumstances, and what would happen if we took all of those away? What would we be left with? SKK would be left with absolutely none of its “charm”, while Rimlaine would likely be left with however much hope or potential people chose to saw in them.
Now, if any of this makes even a sliver of sense to anyone besides myself and has some actual truth to it, I can’t say I really blame anyone here. I still retain my position that a huge portion of why Rimlaine gained popularity as a ship is wilful or blissful ignorance, but if such a thing didn’t exist, I simply don’t believe it would gain much traction beyond a few people you’d find in every single corner of the internet, no matter how moral or not you find the given topic, as you can’t really make the core of this ship follow the same premise as Soukoku unless you seriously couldn’t care less. In terms of a pairing with two guys constantly arguing with each other, being rude on every occasion and beating the shit out of one another, hilariously enough, I have to say here that it’s mutual and reciprocated, and while by definition, it would absolutely count as an abusive relationship, you could say they both play an equal part in it and this aspect of them isn’t highlighted with any genuine real-life seriousness by BSD either, which is not Rimlaine’s case whatsoever. Everything important about that pair is in my essay, hence I won’t be rewriting it all here, but as a TL;DR just in case, that pairing rather explicitly features only one victim and only one abuser (not to mention it’s directly based on a real-world relationship which was precisely that), unlike SKK where if you actually wanted to, you could say each of them occupy both positions at once. You simply cannot make the focal point of your pairing not only abuse, but also power dynamics and extreme one-sidedness, plus a character who does explicitly suffer the aftermath of all such actions and never finds closure until their end, all of which are things that are in no way treated as an ongoing gag in the given media, purely because 99% of the time— and how I seriously wish it was all the time— if you do so, you’re most likely not actually shipping them and are already on my side, as you would have no reason to do so in the traditional definition of the word.
A part of me wants to put it very bluntly here and say the Soukoku shippers have at least owned it, which is why I don’t find it as worthwhile for myself to cover that ship head to toe as well— whether they’re aware of it or not, they fully display the aspect of their pair which some would find to be the attractive part and some to be entirely unhealthy instead, and it’s not as though the viewer has to crawl back into the source material to make up their mind for themselves on that front. As for a lot of Rimlaine content, it’s the exact opposite— had you never read Fifteen or Stormbringer and relied solely on a large portion of fan works, I’m willing to bet you’d go through quite a lot of assumptions before you’d actually get even the tiniest idea that it could perhaps resemble more of my own description, if at all. Granted, I also don’t really focus on Soukoku for one very obvious reason, that being my primary interests residing elsewhere, but if I were to do so, I’d be at least somewhat relieved that the main issues I personally have with the ship are common knowledge, not something I would have to point out to people and only then wait for a response, anticipating I could have easily just spoken about things I consider obvious and others find extremely niche or even entirely unknown about their own pairing of choice. Perhaps it’s not even that I “give leeway” to SKK as I said at the beginning, it’s just that my own thoughts about it don’t relate to things that get hidden away much too often, and thus I have at least some faith that the story writes itself on that end for people who see it, or would see it the same way as I do if exposed to it.
Anyhow, I have no particular conclusion to this. There is a chance I’ve made a lot of this much more complicated than it actually is in reality, and I’m not too certain whether any of it can really be backed up or denied. It’s just something that crossed my mind out of the blue.

If you could make one ship in bungo stray dogs Canon what would it be? (Other than soukoku)
hmmm... basic answers would probably be rimlaine or ranpoe but I feel like those are kind of cop-outs since they wouldn't really change much about their dynamics or the story. They'd just now be officially romantic. That being said, I think it would be absolutely fascinating if Fukuzawa and Mori were canonically involved with each other at some point. Not necessarily canon to the current day, but more were together at some point in the past. I already want to know more about what their partnership was like back when they were working together anyways, and I feel like it would just add layers to the bitterness and spite they feel towards each other after the whole Yosano situation. It'd also just be really fucking funny. I already joke that Mori's just upset that Fukuzawa took the kids in the divorce anyways lol.
#☆twisted sorrow☆#bungo stray dogs#bsd#fukuzawa has a type in men and it's war criminals#not in the joking way its literally men who have legitimately committed crimes against humanity

Part 2: Thoughts on Canon Relationship with Arthur Rimbaud/Randou
[Read Part 1 here!]
Thoughts under the cut to allow people to avoid ship talk if it makes them uncomfortable. Also, spoiler warning for Fifteen and Storm Bringer (again).
If you want to know my educated opinion on if they canonically, romantically love each other or if it’s completely up for interpretation with no intent or confirmation inherently placed either way, well, to be honest, I don’t think ‘opinion’ is even necessary here.
Don’t get me wrong; people are always free to interpret stories as they like and make up their own headcanons to change or add to things according to their comfort zones, and I’m well aware that VerRim/Rimlaine as a ship can even be quite controversial to some due to the canonical abusiveness/unhealthiness of it, as well. Thus, it is entirely valid if someone else doesn’t want to view them as such, and/or has a different ship in mind. It always is. I, myself, ship BSD!Arthur with someone else in current time (even if I do ship Arthur and Paul in the past, up until post-Storm Bringer, for the angst factor), so I can even relate a little.
Hell, if you want to just make them siblings in your headcanons, or father and son, grandpa and grandson — you name it. I don’t care. I support you 100%. Go do your thing and have fun and write stories about it if you want. You absolutely have your right to do that. You don’t have to personally accept them as a romantic couple if you don’t want to.
That being said, I do think that anyone who outright tries to deny or convince others it isn’t the case that, at the very least, the two of them were clearly written with the intent on Asagiri-sensei’s part for them to have a heavily implied romantic relationship dynamic between them in his canon, really really is reaching too hard to justify their dislike for the ship and/or the people who ship them — because here’s the thing: VerRim isn’t like any other ship in the fandom; it is deeply, deeply rooted in historical fact, and again, as we all know, the author of BSD is extremely dedicated to doing heavy research into his characters’ namesakes and tying both key and subtler elements of their lives into their fictional counterparts. And it isn’t even like this is some obscure fact about them, either; their relationship was absolutely crucial to their history and deeply affected the works they produced. Whether you personally might think it’s for better or worse, historically and culturally, their relationship is every bit as famous if not more than their works alone. If it was just some small, obscure footnote in their lives of, “oh yeah, and I guess they quietly were romantically seeing each other for a few weeks or something”, then yeah, I’d say absolutely, there is a possibility there was no intent at all to have them have feelings for each other and it’s 100% up for interpretation, but they were neither quiet nor absurdly brief about their affair; even at the time, it was a pretty huge scandal, and is something they are actively remembered for. Literally as someone who, before the release of Storm Bringer and really, truly deep diving into the historical background of the characters, used to kind of get annoyed about people claiming they were a thing, it is beyond absurd to try to deny that their relationship didn’t actively, intentionally factor into the story Asagiri-sensei wrote surrounding them and get reflected in their relationship.
Furthermore, the subtext regarding it isn’t even subtle — especially in Storm Bringer (and with the Stage Play of said book, I dare say it hardly even qualifies as just ‘subtext’ anymore at all, personally, but that is a side note.)
I’m not going to address all of the examples here, as again, I feel that is something better saved for my article and its future follow-ups, where I can go into detail about it, but just for starters, when Paul is trying to understand the reason why Arthur saved his life and smiled at him even as he faded away, even after all of the betrayal, not only is it stated that Paul knew exactly why it was and that he just didn’t want to face it because it hurt too much, and not only is it something that remains some unspeakable answer the book never gives us directly, but it is also related to a memory of how shy Arthur was when handing him his birthday gift. Come on. Even separately from that context, what kind of person is going to get all shy about handing their ‘best friend’ of several years a birthday gift, unless they have some kind of feelings for them? Put that together with the aforementioned context and it is completely obvious what was meant there, just as it is obvious when Paul shuts himself away from the world for at least 6 years after losing Arthur because he is the only thing in the world he would ever care about, and stays and writes poems to him in the basement all of the time.
And yes, I agree, prior to the end of Storm Bringer, their relationship is canonically abusive and uncomfortable, and still to this day is utterly tragic. I agree. But that’s the point. That’s exactly how it was in real life. Horrible, complicated, sad — an utter mess.
So do I think that Asagiri-sensei intended them to be romantically involved? Absolutely, there’s not a shadow of doubt in my mind, though it’s clear it was (primarily) one-sided on Arthur’s part until the end of Storm Bringer, at which point Paul realized and returned his feelings far too late.
God, those two and the story surrounding them are so fascinating…
Anyway, I guess I’ll wrap this up for now. Thanks for reading!

Paul Verlaine but pokemon trainer
Spoilers for all of the Gen 7 Alola games and Bungo Stray Dogs Stormbringer
Silvally, the evolution of Type:Null; Type:Null was created to destroy ultra beasts by the Aether Foundation to fight the ultra beasts but was taken away by the Aether Foundation (who are evil btw) by Gladion similar to how Verlaine was Created by Pan and then saved by Rimbaud although Rimlaine’s story ends less happily than that of Type:Null and Gladion. I think Verlaine would relate Type:Null and thus befriend it enough for it to evolve into Silvally.
Dreepy: Dragon Type, hence Guivre. Also ghost type, Which relates vaguely to the nature of the black hole that is demonic beast Guivre
Minior: in reference to how Verlaine refers to himself as a lonely comet
Inteleon : Based on a spy
Dusclops: Canonically is basically a black hole also learns the move gravity
Furfrou: it’s from Kalos and also… Stray Dog?

Okay so like. Essentially, this has to do with Arthur's ability and the stormbringer epilogue, and what him making himself an ability entails to. My interpretation is He basically made himself Schrodinger's dead guy, where upon this he basically took himself out of the normal living/dead dichotomy and is now an ability. Now, we know that he did some kind of shit with Verlaine that took out the Guivre part of Verlaine's ability, but. We dont know exactlywhat the hell happens to the previous ability in Illuminations, and thats where I start thinkin
There are different versions of how this could play out in my head, both of which are based upon almost nothing and also since my memory tends to be bad may even be completely contradictory to canon.
1. A very nice haunting - this doesn't even necessarily need the ability paradox shit, but what if Arthur was a very active ghost in the Basement with Verlaine, and just kinda chilled with him. Hes not always there, flickers in and out, but sometimes they can touch and hug and shit. This ones sadder but still better than alone in a dungeon forever.
2. Dream visits - Arthur visits Verlaine in "dreams", thats it thats all. The problem I have with this is that I need a reason that Verlaine would be doing anything other than sleeping bc tbh I think he would be downing nyquil like a madman if every time he slept he got to be with Rimbaud.
3. The one thats really bullshitted and may depend on deliberate stupidity but i like it a lot - before I even start. I have not read or seen dead apple. I barely know what happened there. BUT. I know there was ability fuckery and I know it affected everyone. So. I have no details for how this happens or why, but somehow or another in the resolution of it all Arthur is just. There. He remembers everything(for once) about the events of stormbringer and fifteen and is just as confused as everyon else about the fact he is there, amd importantly, he no longer has an ability. While for rimlaine reasons I usually imagine him spawning in the basement with Verlaine, I also think that him spawning around other characters like Dazai or Chuuya would be very funny.
Anyway if this actually makes sense yo anyone else i will be surprised bc tbh it doesn't even make sense to me really. I just want Verlaine to have his bf back.
Anyone wanna know my heres how rimlaine can still win aus or nah.

Part 3: Fifteen
Content warning: major Fifteen light novel spoilers.
[List of all parts]
[Part 2]
This may be a far, far shorter section than you would expect from me as we don’t get too much to analyze in Fifteen, compared to Stormbringer later on. I will not be summarizing the entire novel, since I have stated before that I’m going into this assuming my readers have seen both books already. This is merely a summary of the most important things which occurred that I will be referencing/referring to in terms of Rimlaine as a ship itself, and also to bring up details that could have been missed along the way if the reader wasn’t focused on them.
I would also like to add an additional note before I begin— as for Fifteen, I am only talking about the events of the written novel, not the anime adaptation of it. I believe I make this explicitly clear everywhere when I say “novel”, but I’m aware some people still may think of those two as the same or similar to each other and don’t actually distinguish between the two, even when I directly state which piece of media it is. I need for it to be said before going to write about any canonical events, solely to avoid statements such as “I remember watching something else”, “when did that even happen”, etc., considering the anime could practically be interpreted as its own separate story. Additionally, this will also apply here if an anime adaptation for Stormbringer is released, as I can’t say I have any faith in a short, animated version’s ability to not cut out or twist extremely crucial or important details from such a long novel either to save space, budget or provide fanservice, just as it did in S3.
So then, what exactly do we establish in Fifteen?
Part 3.1: the fight and Arthur’s memories
Despite talking about this novel and a major part of Arthur’s character, I will not be going over the entire section where he gets introduced into the BSD universe, nor where he explains his initial recollection of events about the Arahabaki incident. Instead, I will skip right into the fight with Dazai and Chuuya. Why? Because, to put it simply, the former parts have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. As much as I could talk about them for a rather long time, they provide me with no information I could give out in terms of Arthur’s relation to Paul, which is the sole focus here.
Now, during the fight in the second half of the novel, we get to learn of Arthur’s true identity, as well as his purpose in Japan. His initial mission was to research “Arahabaki” and take it back to his home country alive, however his intent had changed significantly over time. He had no longer planned to take Chuuya, or rather, “Arahabaki” back alive, rather deciding to kill him— as we learn further on, this was not done due to a simple desire for violence, power or anything of this kind. In fact, that would go against his whole character, as it’s not only implied, but also outright stated by him he doesn’t truly want to go along with it and does certainly feel remorse for his actions…so then, what might his reasoning possibly be?
That reasoning was Chuuya’s memories. Eight years ago, when he was sent on this very mission, he wasn’t alone. Here, we learn of another character, one who supposedly accompanied him and worked with him, according to his vague recollections. Arthur had long since forgotten what happened to that person, whether he died or survived the Arahabaki explosion— all he remembered was the two being partners, even “best friends”, as he referred to him. Unsurprisingly, Arthur wished to know what happened to someone so important to him, especially after eight years of having no possibility of finding this out, and due to Chuuya/Arahabaki being present at the time of the two still being together, he believed he could retrieve his lost memories by taking in Chuuya’s ability, though unfortunately, that could only be done if Chuuya was killed. It wasn’t an act of anything other than simply a desperate wish to know what happened to an old friend of his, even if it now went against his actual mission. Despite his amnesia, desires and even his own orders, he still cared about his partner strongly enough to try and go through with his plan. That plan, however, failed.
Just as Arthur thought he succeeded in their altercation, with Chuuya seemingly not being able to fight back any longer after being heavily injured, he was fatally stabbed through by a scythe he used to pin the redhead to the ground. Instead of Chuuya’s ability itself, that was the action which made him remember the true events of his past. In his final moments, he states he was betrayed by his partner at the last minute, who is now revealed to be named Paul Verlaine. According to him, Paul had tried to kill him, and thus it’s implied he had to defend himself. In his recollection of events, he believes to be the one who ended his partner’s life, and while he does not explicitly state this himself, as I assume he wasn’t even able to, he hints at it. This part of Fifteen ends with Arthur passing away, thinking about Paul in his very last thoughts.
Part 3.2: Paul’s appearance
This is a part which many people are not aware of– Paul’s actual appearance in Fifteen after Arthur’s death, which was not even mentioned a single time in Fifteen’s animated rendition. It will most definitely be a very short summary, given it is a rather short part itself, yet it’s quite crucial to my points.
The section revolves around Paul getting into the Port Mafia’s office during nighttime. As he himself claims, it was to retrieve a document of “[his] best friend’s life”. One could even begin to think he did care about Arthur the same way he was clearly cared for by the latter just with that line alone, yet the rest of his dialogue entirely disproves this.
I could certainly point to his proclamation of Arthur’s memory being “interesting” due to him having mistakenly remembered ending Paul’s life, seemingly being amused by it with such wording, but there’s a far more glaring example of this that does not require any amount of analyzing whatsoever. Following this, he then goes on to thank Chuuya for killing his former partner on his behalf before stating he wishes to meet him. Even if one was to reach for rather far-fetched assumptions, there is no grief or regret expressed by him to be found at any point during this specific part, rather the opposite— this was supposedly what he wanted to see happen. The section ends with him disappearing into the night, confirming a sequel to the novel.

Part 2: what exactly is Rimlaine?
[List of all parts]
[Part 1]
I’m counting on the fact that some people reading this might not be too familiar with this ship, or perhaps they’re wondering why it gained some noteworthy popularity after Stormbringer’s release to a point I would find this an important essay to write, just in case. For this part, I will try to explain the very basic concept of it, where it seemed to originate and why I think it appeals to others. While detailed recollections of light novel events only come after this section, I must also give a fair warning that from this point onwards, I do expect people to have read both 15/SB novels, at least to understand the vague context of what I will be talking about, or to simply not mind spoilers.
Rimlaine, for those who aren’t that aware, is a ship between Arthur Rimbaud/Randou and Paul Verlaine from BSD. It had a fairly small, niche audience since the release of Fifteen, but has gained quite a fair share of liking compared to its early days since Stormbringer came out. Granted, it’s absolutely nowhere near the levels of ships such as Soukoku or Shin Soukoku, but it certainly is more noticeable nowadays due to SB practically introducing Paul to the story properly, especially if you enter spaces centered around these two light novels or the two characters involved.
Now, what makes this ship appealing to people? In a certain way, I don’t quite know myself. I have never even considered it might be taken this way by the fandom back when I read the first light novel and I wasn’t able to change my mind down the line, either. However, I am somewhat familiar with the “concepts” it seems to portray and have seen some similar, much more beloved equivalents to it in other pieces of media, and I’ve also heard it be discussed many times to a degree I believe I have gained some possible understanding of the community, and thus will try to assess it this way without looking at it through my own lens. A far more detailed assessment will only be in further parts, though.
From the beginning, at the time of Fifteen being the only novel featuring Arthur and a cameo of Paul at the very end in it, the main thing I noticed was that it being so close to an actual, canonical relationship made a handful of people simply accept it as such, which became quite a prevalent talking point in this topic back then. As is obvious from the start, Bungou Stray Dogs is a series with characters based on actual authors, and many noticeably take up more traits after their real-world counterparts than simply sharing a name or their abilities being referred to by titles of their books. In the case of Arthur and Paul, one of these traits could have been the real-life poets’ actual relationship, but this was never confirmed in the story itself, nor even truly mentioned to begin with besides the pair having been “partners” at one point in time. This, unsurprisingly, caught some people’s attention– a few of those simply took it as a fact regarding the BSD characters despite no actual evidence of it, all while another few have not done so explicitly, but still began thinking of it this way due to the implications it had, no matter what the story itself stated and how the characters referred to each other, even back then. Either way, from my personal experience, the vast majority of people interested in the ship at the time always brought this up in one way or another.
I should also mention that a much smaller number have unfortunately seemed to blur the lines of reality and fiction in this area to almost unsettling extents, which I will talk about in a part entirely dedicated to the pair’s real-life counterparts, as it comes hand-in-hand with this topic.
So then, if the real people were in a relationship, isn’t it only natural to assume their namesakes would be too? At least, that’s what I think some of you might be asking now. To that I say yes, but even this has its nuances. I will elaborate on it a bit further later, but the real relationship was nothing short of a toxic, abusive mess, and had the fandom at the time wanted to see something depicting precisely what it was, that would be mostly understandable and not something I would fight against, given what the BSD series is about and how it creates its characters, but I presume many people simply saw the words “were in a relationship” and thought no further of it, especially that it was a queer relationship— a thing I’ve seen a lot of folks wish for in their respective fandoms for a sense of comfort, happiness or visibility. Still, that changes absolutely nothing about how destructive it truly was, and there is nothing wrong with wishing to see the true time it was supposedly based off of, even just to some degree that would have also fit in with the actual plot of the media itself, yet it seemed to me that this was the opposite of the case. The instances I saw someone genuinely not sugarcoat anything or erase whatever information was available to everyone back then regarding both the real and fictional worlds were so rare, I could count them on one of my hands alone.
Now, our lack of canonical information changes vastly in Stormbringer, a novel following Fifteen, released three years afterwards. In it, we get an actual look into Arthur and Paul’s backstory, as well as their time spent together. Personally, this novel only furthered my own views even more, but there are now some points– or rather, fictional tropes– people are relating this ship to. In some way, they do serve as a fair summary of it. I’ve heard it be described as tropes related to a character hating the whole world, yet only loving a single person in it, or two characters who ran out of time and missed their opportunities, even a very skewed “enemies to lovers”, and so on. I suppose I can see some of them too, except only as a mere recollection of the events, nothing else. All these outlines and some more I haven’t mentioned can absolutely be done right, even in the context of romantic ships, this is not to imply something is inherently wrong with them– unfortunately, however, Rimlaine doesn’t strike me as an example of that whatsoever. For some of these, there really is a thin line to be walked between making a tragic, yet healthy friendship/romance/etc., and making something which should not be put on a pedestal in any way. I’m not quite sure where the intentions lay with this pairing as I am not the author of the BSD novels themselves, if there even were such intentions in the first place as I believe it was meant to follow its real-life inspirations, but I’d say they must have been far closer to the latter category, to which they ended up falling entirely either way.
I will add a minor side note here, one I’m continuing from the previous part, I am placing no fault on the creator of BSD nor on anyone else who happens to create this type of content, no matter what it is, as that is a thing I and many others have also done ourselves. Creating a story is one thing, and whether we like it or not, these stories do exist in real life as well and shouldn’t be a secret, taboo topic, but actively taking that story and romanticizing it yourself is another matter, that of which is the part I do not condone.
Nevertheless, following this novel, Rimlaine gained its fair share of popularity, no longer being the ship with fans so far underground one would have to actively dig to find a lot of them. Since we got their canonical interactions, at least to some degree, people could see the way they talked together, worked together and so on. For me, that’d be a major thing I’d closely assess even just thinking about it if this was a pairing that I was already uncertain about, but I don’t think that was the case for many others. I believe, or rather, wish to believe the actual point of interest from there on came from the used tropes themselves and the tragedy it all was destined to be from the very beginning, not so much from the true dynamic between the two. Now, I certainly am not opposed to reading, watching or playing things which are intended to cause nothing but sorrow and I can also see where this appeal comes from, too, but that still doesn’t quite clear everything up. It was intended to be a tragedy, and that’s about it— whether it’s “beautiful” or “lovely”, as some have called it, is solely up to the reader’s personal tastes and opinions, however I absolutely do not believe there’s anything about it to be romanticized, which is what seems to be happening instead of mere appreciation of the story or proper acknowledgement of what occurred to give inspiration to it.
With that said, all the context for my statements, if necessary for the reader, will be provided in the next section in detail. Now, let me begin talking about the novels themselves.
