I think Gina is more happy with E.J. that she ever was with Ricky. I am sorry to say it but Ricky wouldn’t be a good boyfriend to Gina until he works on himself and is completely over Nini which is going to take time for him to get over Nini. I just know that E.J. will treat Gina better than Ricky would of as of right now. Things didn’t work out between E.J. and Nini but that doesn’t mean things won’t work for him and Gina. E.J. puts Gina first unlike Ricky.

i one hundred percent agree with you that gina’s happier with ej, anon! i think it’s one of the main reasons portwell resonates with so many of us, because not only does ej treat her well, but the way he treats her and the way she acts around him is a stark contrast to what we see in 2a with her and ricky, which makes it all the more of a beautiful story. however, i don’t like framing it as ricky not being ready to treat gina right and therefore gina is better off with ej. for one, i think framing it that way sort of stigmatizes mental health issues and makes it seem like ricky can’t be in a relationship because he’s got xyz things wrong with him and he needs to fix that first. i know people say jokingly that “they only ship rickerapy” and ofc they mean well but i personally don’t think that’s a good way to put it. i think it’s totally possible (and normal) to still be figuring out things for yourself and figuring out who you are, but doing that alongside someone else. they’re high schoolers after all. even ej has a lot of issues that he needs to work through in terms of his own insecurities, his relationship with his family, etc.

i’m not not shipping ricky with gina because i think he needs to work on himself first. that sort of framing also makes it look like we want gina with ej because ricky isn’t ready to give her xyz, but ej can, so he’s a better choice for now, until ricky “gets it together.” when in reality, i just don’t think ricky and gina are as good of a fit for each other as ej and gina. plain and simple. i think that portwell’s vibrant personalities, the way their character arcs complement one another, the way they’re different on the outside but the same in a lot of ways on the inside, and have been able to understand each other despite all of their differences, the way they consistently lift each other up and can just be there for each other - i think all of it just fits :)

i'm okay with rily, i find it a bit amusing. but i do resent the fact that the writers were so quick to throw ricky into straight relationship drama yet again. that kid needs therapy. if they needed drama for ricky they should have made him go through a s3 punk quinn fabray phase instead, have him blame every problem of his life on ms jenn and the theater kids, then maybe come around and explore his sexuality, but not another relationship.

My OTP for Ricky is Rickerapy and him getting a boyfriend, but I know neither of those are happening so I’m settling for Rily, but I’m also intrigued at the same time.

Okay, so, initial thoughts.

I loved all the camp scenes and I kinda got bored when it cut to Nini and Ricky ehehe. i really liked showing the different dynamics of the girls together and the guys and exploring those friendships more and, obviously, Portwell were adorable! I love them and will defend them constantly However, I……am not a fan of a potential EJxGinaxRicky love triangle thing being POTENTIALLY set up (????) and I'm also not a fan of this love triangle POTENTIALLY resolving itself by POTENTIALLY having nini come to camp and rini gets back together. yes this is all my speculations for the rest of the season ehehuhuhuesohohoohhafhdlakjdsfhasdf Both Ricky and Nini need time away from each other to gain their own independence and to understand why their relationship ended in the first place (i cannot remember if in s2 they actually covered that or not. i do remember their breakup scene was good? in the sense that it followed exactly what the show was setting up in s2 for rini)

But who knows. Maybe Rini will reunite and actually be a better fit after some time apart to grow as people? I'll just have to see how that goes.

And while I used to ship rina and due to that, I will probably have a slight soft spot for them in the sense of just liking their scenes together………….i am very concerned for portwell's happiness. This is supposed to be Gina's season and EJ plays a big role for that and he's also getting even more screentime I--------

Alright, so. I ship Ricky with Therapy (Rickerapy) and Gina with Happiness (Hapina). That’s my final stance for a while. I’m very curious on where they take Portwell. If Rina’s gonna happen then...I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it? Like I still enjoy the idea of Rina, and it’ll be a lot better than Rini (I think) but...no guy is worth that much pain and heartache Gina’s dealing with. 

I guess if Ricky ends up working through his fear of change, learns better communication skills, and accepts/confronts his own feelings a lot better and treats Gina like the amazing person she is and makes it up to her then maaaaaaaaaaybe I’ll be on board with Rina in the end.

But yea, I’m definitely vibing more with Portwell rn.

Also, Nini deciding to live for herself. It’s such a good peak for her arc this semester I’m pretty happy.

Finally, while I’m giving Ricky a lot of shit, as I said in my previous live!blog--I still like his character and everything is very consistent with what we’ve seen from season 1. If anything, I’m really excited to see his arc come to a head and what comes after!
