Let (Hina) take (your wrist).
Hina grabs your wrist and takes you through a few hallways, all lit up with colourful lights through colourful hallways.* If the class you woke up in wasn't so obnoxious with its own wallpaper, this would've been overwhelming.
It's Hina's warm hand that keeps you tethered to reality, almost holding your very soul in place. The vanilla extract you've been drinking did a bit of a number on your hand-eye coordination, but with her help, you have enough of your wits about you to make it through the trophy room, and to the gymnasium.
It seems, however, when you arrive, there is already a sense of unrest and unease.
Tumblr media
"D-Did he just say until the day we d-die?!"
Tumblr media
"Oh, but don't worry! We've got a budget surplus, so you'll never have to worry about the necessities or even basic luxuries!"
...
There is a stuffed bear on the podium up on the stage. And for some inexplicable reason, everyone's attention is fixed on it.
Tumblr media
"That's the least of our problems right now!"
Tumblr media
"Yeah, what the hell! I gotta stay here for the rest of my life? You're fucking with us, right?"
Tumblr media
"Nope! Not fucking with you! Just-"
...
The bear stops mid-sentence.
You feel its ice-cold gaze on you - despite its lack of conventional eyes.
Tumblr media
"... Whozzat?"
In an instant, the gym full of people follow the bear's gaze, and turn to look at you and Hina.
Tumblr media
"Uh... found one extra going through the classrooms?"
Tumblr media
"O-One extra?! How embarrassing! I thought I calculated this game perfectly! Did I forget to carry the one?!"
Tumblr media
"Game?! What the fuck are you talking about?!"
Tumblr media
"Ah, I must've made a big mistake to forget a whole person... game setups can be offset by even one extra person!"
Tumblr media
"S-So... who are you?"
Without a name or voice, you know introductions will be difficult. But there's still time to make an impression.

hello!! i hope ur doing okay, mod hellbent!! would it be alright if i requested a drabble for pregame chihiro fujisaki and nagito komaeda bonding over silly stuff regarding their talents?
aaaa i’m doing pretty good since i closed some of the more burnout-y request types!!! but yeah ofc, you’ll find your drabble below the cut!!!
also, ik everyone’s timeline is different and you didn’t specify, but checking your carrd brings me to believe that you used she/her pronouns as chihiro so!! i hope it’s ok that i’m gonna be using those for the drabble! if you need it changed then please let me know!!
- mod hellbent [nat/kaito]
There she sat at the computer, clickety-clacking away on the keys. Chihiro Fujisaki was making a brand new, breathtaking several hundred (thousand?) lines of code. Nagito, on the other hand, was just sitting nearby watching.
“Chi!” He whined. “I’m booored!” As Nagito said that, Chihiro turned her head very slightly so that her quiet voice would carry over. She continued looking at the screen, though.
“Well, do you want me to teach you?”
Desperate to do anything other than sit around while she coded, Nagito nodded frantically and rushed over to Chihiro’s side. “Okay, so what’s all that mean?”
“Well, this line of code right here...” The explanation faded into nothing as Nagito read each line Chihiro had already written. It was kind of starting in the middle, maybe closer to the end, but he seemed to start to understand.
Once Chihiro was finished explaining everything, she asked one question: “Did you get all that?”
“Yeah, I think so. Can I try?” Nagito was already cracking his knuckles, ready to give it a go. Chihiro enjoyed his spirit, laughing a little and nodding as she got up from her chair.
“Of course, go ahead!”
Nagito sat right down, not entirely understanding what he was typing now that it was really happening, but he used the context of other code to build on it. Scrolling up for reference, and much slower than Chihiro would have, Nagito ended up finishing the last hundred lines of code. He was able to get into a steady rhythm, and he was disappointed when it was finally over.
“Okay, I think we can try it out now!” He looked over at Chihiro, who nodded just a little bit.
“Okay, let me see!” She leaned in and took the computer’s mouse, dragging the cursor over to run the code. What finally came up on the screen was an AI, and it seemed to be working perfectly.
The two talked to the program for a bit, just to make sure it worked fine, and as proof that it did presented itself, Chihiro could only giggle in excitement.
“You really are lucky, getting that right on your first try!”
“Well, I just did my best.” Nagito brushed the compliment off, but Chihiro wouldn’t accept that. She pulled him into a hug, and he gave in. “Alright, alright, maybe I am pretty lucky.”
He may not have liked to admit it, but he was.

Uhm! Are you okay w people who hc chihiro as a trans boy/nb/genderfluid interacting? It's okay if you don't!
I mean I don’t care what you personally hc? but I personally will stick by trans girl chihiro, any/all content I make with chihiro (which I will probably make at some point) will be trans girl chihiro, and i will always use she/her pronouns for chihiro (and those are really the only pronouns I wanna see). and I dont really want anyone commenting on her gender on my posts you know? like as long as you’re respectful and don’t bring your own conflicting hcs onto my posts or send me asks regarding chihiro’s gender, I’m cool with you being here!! It’s basically just don’t be an asshole about it and we’re good. (also this is mostly a utmv blog and not a danganronpa blog so i dont see any reason to ask people not to interact when dr is such a small part of my blog.)
I just really dont like anything other than trans girl chihiro, including what canon says about chihiro. I think canon handled chihiro extremely poorly, wrote her entire storyline in a very transphobic and sexist way, and as a trans person, I was extremely disappointed. I kinda wanna explain my thoughts on this a little more, too, so I’m going to put it under a cut and talk about it there. Spoilers for Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc under the cut!
To start off, I want to say that as a whole, I do like the game. I think the plot is extremely interesting, I love the premise, and I love the majority of the characters. However, Danganronpa has consistently had a major problem with sexism, as well as transphobia and to a lesser extent, homophobia. Constantly throughout the game, characters make passes at one another, joking about how women are weak and perpetuating toxic masculinity to a level where it’s extremely noticeable. This is extremely prominent in Chihiro’s storyline, which is all centered around how people pushed expectations of stereotypical masculinity onto Chihiro, and how Chihiro decided to present as a girl so that people wouldn’t be able to torment her for “being weak even though she was a boy”.
This is... extremely problematic (lmao i hate to use that word since it’s the Tumblrite word but You Get What I’m Saying) because it both implies that if you’re a girl, you’re weak, and if you’re a boy, you’re strong - and that being weak makes you trans. This is also kind of a narrative that radfems tend to perpetuate - that men who feel emasculated, weak, etc. will just turn to being trans women (”failed at being a man so i have to be a woman”), which is also extremely false. And it just gets kind of messy.
The way that the characters went about revealing Chihiro’s birth sex also made me deeply uncomfortable. I was relating really hard to Chihiro in that moment, and not in a good way. I was disturbed and honestly, dysphoric, because I couldn’t stop imagining myself in Chihiro’s place. Like, if someone felt me up after death, specifically examined my genitals, declared my birth sex in shock, and then suddenly started referring to me with the pronouns correlated with my birth sex, that wouldn’t be “finding out my real gender,” that would be disregarding everything I presented as and shoving me into a gender box without even thinking about anything besides what was in my pants. It was really transphobic, and then to top it off, all of the other characters started to refer to Chihiro as a boy immediately. No one even considered the possibility of Chihiro being transgender.
Now I understand if you just make chihiro a trans girl in canon without changing her motivations for transitioning and presenting as a girl, it gets transmisogynistic, which is also why I just sort of... delete that motivation. So not only do I see Chihiro as a trans girl, I headcanon an entirely different motivation that would go something like this: Chihiro, prior to Hope’s Peak, comes out as trans. Her family and friends mock her, saying she must be weak if she wants to be a girl. She keeps this mentality through Hope’s Peak, up until she decides to become strong so she can be prepared for when Monokuma reveals her secret - that she’s trans. She comes out to Mondo in the boy’s locker room the night of the murder, and tells him that she needs to be strong so she can prove to people that she can be strong and a girl at the same time. And then the rest of it goes like canon.
In any case, my reaction to the entire trial can just be summarized by this:
