Alright so, I’ve decided that the original Donkey Kong game can exist in my canon, but I’m erasing the whole “Cranky Kong is the original Donkey Kong” thing cause it’s confusing and pointless. If Cranky was the original and he’s that old now, why aren’t Mario and Pauline? There’s no way the Kongs age that much faster, or at least, I refuse to believe they do.

My idea is that Donkey Kong was bored on his island and went to the mainland for some excitement, kidnapped Pauline for fun, and caused some trouble on a construction site, leading to Mario pursuing him.

Extending on this hc in that Mario and Luigi were born and raised in the Metro Kingdom (probably not in New Donk City, but specifically whatever the equivalent to Brooklyn is), and this is how Mario encountered Pauline and DK before arriving in the Mushroom Kingdom (and before Pauline became mayor). Not sure yet why they decided to go to the Mushroom Kingdom later…

Perhaps I can stick with the idea that they were working in the sewer system of their city and accidentally took a warp pipe to the Mushroom Kingdom? Hmm. Now I’m starting to think I want the warp pipes to be ancient magical objects that run throughout the entire planet rather than being manmade objects. Maybe they were created by the gods? I’ll figure this out
