I can so imagine a scenario where Billy and Steve have been screwing around for months, like months, and while Billy has plenty of experience with sex, he’s never slept with anyone quite like Steve.

Steve who holds his hand during sex, Steve who gets off on Billy’s pleasure, Steve who kisses him before and after and during, who likes cuddling, who doesn’t avoid being seen with Billy at all and actually starts hanging out with Billy at school and out of it, who invites him to play basketball in the park and to get food after, and to stay over at his house like every weekend.

Naturally, Billy thinks they’re dating.

But they never talk about it. Somehow, for months of this, it never comes up in conversation how to define their relationship. It’s not exactly necessary, both of them being content as they are with what they have with each other. Whatever they think it is.

Until, of course…

Senior Prom.

Billy’s been dodging prom invitations left and right for two weeks now, leaving a trail of pouty glossed lips behind, claiming he has no interest in going to “the party equivalent of daytime tv”. Steve hasn’t said anything about it except a half-muttered comment that he went to Junior Prom with Nancy, after which he immediately changed the subject. Billy assumed he didn’t want to go either.

Which is why Billy’s surprised when he hears through the school grapevine that Becky Olson asked Steve to Prom and he said yes.

When Billy shows up at Steve’s house after school that day, he’s rage smoked half a pack of cigarettes and stewed in his anger all through the afternoon. Even Max heard about it all the way in the middle school, and offered to take Steve’s bat to his balls. Billy drops Max off at home after promising that if he doesn’t kill Steve, he’ll let her at him.

He lets himself into Steve’s house (Steve always leaves the door unlocked for him) and goes straight to Steve’s room (it’s routine by now), where he finds him sitting on his bed, going through cassette tapes.

“Hey, man,” Steve says. Entirely unconcerned.

Billy’s nostrils flare.

“What the fuck, Steve? Is that what you’re gonna say? ‘Hey, man’?”

Steve does look up then, and frowns at Billy, fucking confused. Like Billy’s saying nonsense.

“Yes? Hello? How was your day?” Steve says, nose scrunching up. “What am I supposed to say?”

Billy can’t fucking believe this. This whole time, Steve’s been so- Now he’s acting like he didn’t even do anything.

“Maybe start by telling me what the hell you’re thinking going to prom with some chick!” He yells, like he hasn’t been cursing her name for at least two hours.

Steve gets up from the bed then, runs a hand through his stupid hair, crosses his arms. Billy can see he’s closing himself off, going on the defensive right off the bat.

“Why are you mad at me about this? You don’t even wanna go,” Steve doesn’t raise his voice, but his words echo in the room same as a slap on his face would.

“I don’t know, Steve, maybe I’m mad my boyfriend’s going on a date with some girl!”

This isn’t making any fucking sense. Steve isn’t like this, an inconsiderate asshole going behind Billy’s back. He’s sweet. He’s always been sweet.

There’s something wrong here, and Billy can’t put his finger on it, and it just makes him angrier.

Steve rears back, brows going up, up, up towards his hairline, eyes wide, a sea of white around brown.

“Boyfriend?” He repeats. Licks his lips. “How- Why would you say boyfriend?”

Billy’s stomach sinks, takes everything in his abdominal cavity with it. He feels hollow, weighed down. All the fight has been sucked out of him.

That’s why the conversation felt off.

"Because we've been dating for like, three months, Steve," Billy says, or forces out, and his voice comes out shaky.

They were. He thought they were. Steve’s been- He holds Billy’s hand. They go on dates, as much as they can while staying under the radar. Billy stays over most weekends. It’s never been like this with anyone else, for Billy, not even in California. Even Before.

Steve’s eyes are still wide, but his eyebrows are doing the puppy dog thing, turned up at the inner corners like he’s hurt.

“I…” He starts, stops. Decides on something else. “We never talked about this.”

Billy rears back this time, feeling the sentence like a blow, and Steve follows him with a step forward, hand reaching out.

“I mean- shit,” Steve says, stammers, runs a hand down his face. “I didn’t know you felt that way. About me. I thought you didn’t-”

“What the fuck did you think when we were going on fucking dates, Steve?!”

“You’re my best friend!” Steve says, and it stings. “We do everything together!”

“And suck each other’s dicks, too!”

“I thought-”

“Thought what, this was some friends with benefits shit? If you’re my best friend and we’re boning, how’s that different from a relationship, Steve?!”

“We never talked about it!” Steve finally raises his voice, and the sound of it stuns Billy.

Steve makes an aborted motion with his hand, then again, before closing it into a fist by his side. He rubs at his eyes with his other hand, but not before Billy sees they are wet.

“I’m not going to assume you’re in love with me, Billy! What if I’m wrong? What if I spend months thinking you love me and it turns out to be bullshit?”

Steve’s breathing hard as he finishes speaking, cheeks blotchy red, and hands shaking. He looks terrified right now, terrified Billy’s going to give up on him and leave, going by how he glances from Billy to the door; terrified he’s hurting Billy, because he keeps reaching out but doesn’t step any closer.

Billy feels something click, then, a piece of the puzzle that was grating on him with jagged edges smooths outs and slots into place. That’s the Steve he knows, with his head tangled in so many feelings he can’t parse them out, but never uncaring. Never cold.

“Well, I do,” Billy says, stepping closer to Steve.

He walk forward until their toes are almost touching, until Steve has to tilt his head down to look Billy in the eye. Billy takes a breath and raises an eyebrow, raises his chin, gives Steve his best smirk like wants to eat him alive. Takes a chance.

“I do love you. Whatcha gonna do about it?”

Steve’s eyes jump between his, mouth parted, like a man lost searching for something. Like he’s looking at something holy. Billy feels tentative fingertips at his elbows, then fingers running up his triceps, until finally one of Steve’s hands closes around his arm. The other continues up, up, a long tingling line to his neck, and Steve cups his jaw like something precious. Rubs his thumb on Billy’s cheekbone, feather light, but Billy feels it like a brand.

“You mean it?” Steve’s voice comes out in a ragged whisper, breath spilling over Billy’s lips.

“I do.” They’re so close. Billy wants to take in all of Steve’s face, the way he’s looking at Billy, with his eyes half lidded and his lips parted, like he’s everything Steve could ever want.

“Basketball in the park,” Steve says, out of nowhere, voice still low. “In February. You complained about the cold the whole time but you still kicked my ass. I bought you a burger at the diner, after. That was our first date.”

Billy’s face splits into a grin so wide his cheeks hurt, and he bunches his hands in Steve’s dumb polo shirt, pulls him closer until Steve has to lean down those two inches to press their foreheads together.

“I love you,” Steve whispers against Billy’s lips, “I’m so in love with you.”

Billy nods, barely moving his head, unwilling to part where they’re touching, “‘m in love with you.”

Their lips really touch then, feeling like the first time even if they’ve kissed a thousand times before, are as familiar with each other’s mouths as they are with their own.

The scrape of Steve’s teeth against Billy’s bottom lip pulls a moan out of Billy, and he presses himself tighter to Steve’s body, pulls at his chest, his hips, wants to climb inside him and never leave.

No one’s ever felt like this. No one’s ever made Billy feel like this, this wanted, this needed, like the world starts and ends with them, together. That’s why Billy was so sure they were together. It couldn’t be anything else.

Steve’s the best thing that’s ever happened to Billy, and he’s not gonna let him go without a fight.

I'm working in a little proyect… A comic (more like a graphic novel) of Artemis and Apollo stories, but i'm struggling with Apollo's lovers chronology 🫠

I will discard Daphne… I know if we took Ovid, she was his first love crush, but 1) She wasn't a lover, so… not a first love of Apollo :P And i want a romantic first love u.u 2) She is overrated, i want to give some credit to the underrated ones.

Then whe have Admetus, if we took the punishment for killing Python, but according to that, the Apollo's lover was Hymenaeus/Thessalian Hyacinthus… And i prefer the Spartan Hyacinthus and the version of Admetus servitude after killing the Cyclops.

There is Cyrene too… Apollo talking to Chiron about Cyrene was like a teenager falling in love, and could be his first enamourment. Also because he goes to Chiron to some advices. He wasn't sure about how to talk with Cyrene… Could be a first love.

And Branchus! I did read that Apollo saw him after coming from Delos riding a dolphin and… He was leaving Delos, his birth land, so could be a possibility of Branchus being the first love of Apollo. And Apollo was so smitten in this myth… He was so in love that got distracted and milk a billy goat LMAO That was a teenager in love! This also make me consider the idea of Branchus being his first love and boyfriend <3

I personally like him, but i also would consider Cyrene… And not having a chronology is makes the things hard. I need help… Please be my wise Chiron and give me your advices 🫡🙏

About Daphne : understandable lol though yeah, I don't think you can exclude her entirely because the laurel tree was very sacred to Apollo and his cults.

Admetus is a bit tricky. On one hand, he is one of the argonauts, and their journey happens nearer to the Trojan war I believe, since Admetus' son participates in the trojan war. Adding to that, Asclepius' sons were also amongst suitors of Helen, and they participated in the war as well. So Apollo's servitude under Admetus for killing the Cyclopes also didn't happen early on in Apollo's life. But on the other hand, there is a version where Apollo had to serve for the act of killing the Python - which in most versions happens when he was a child - so he'd have been a pretty young god when he met Admetus. Adding to that, Hesoid has written the tale of Hermes stealing Apollo's cows when the latter was serving Admetus. The birth of Hermes and the cattle theft couldn't have happened just a few decades before the trojan war imo. So again, although in Hesoid's version Apollo falls in love with Hymenaeus, this version places the servitude fairly early on in Apollo's life. I used to hc is that since Admetus and Alcestis cheated death, they were allowed to live a very long life - this way I don't have to exclude any of the events that include him but happen at different times - but even that doesn't work because you need to fit Pelias (Alcestis' father and Jason's uncle) in the earlier part of the timeline and it just doesn't make sense :') so yeah, Admetus isn't the best choice either imo

Now onto Hymenaeus. I know theoi.com says that he is Thessalian Hyacinthus, but like. That's one interpretation. It's up to you to decide if they were the same person or not. Personally, I don't find the explanation given by theoi.com satisfactory and consider Hymenaeus and Hyacinthus different people. Hymenaeus would be a good choice. Not only is he mentioned by Hesoid, one of the oldest poets, this version also seems to place the event early on in Apollo's life like I've already said.

You can go for Hyacinthus too, especially if you want to ignore Hymenaeus. According to Callimachus, Apollo laid the foundation for Sparta. Given that Hyacinthus belongs to the first few generations of the Spartan royal family (2nd or 3rd) - it's possible that he was Apollo's first lover. Another detail is that, in the Homeric hymn to Demeter, Persephone is said to have been gathering flowers and one of them was hyacinth flowers! According to this, Hyacinthus' death happened even before Persephone married Hades.

Now Cyrene. I don't think she was his first lover. I've always imagined her to be one of the first few loves of Apollo...but if you look at the myths, the ones about their son Aristaeus seems to be set in a time closer to when Dionysus was born/lived on the earth. He is Dionysus' mentor/father figure in one version. He is also, in one version, responsible for the death of Eurydice (and Orpheus was a follower of Dionysus at that point). Aristaeus' son Actaeon is Dionysus' cousin, who was killed for peeping at Artemis. Also when Aristaeus was born, Hermes parades him around so...Cyrene must have happened after Admetus and Hymenaeus at least.

I've never given too much thought on where Branchus would fit tbh. But I looked up a bit more on him and - according to Strabo, Achilles' son Neoptolemus was killed by Machaereus, and Branchus was a descendant of Machaereus. But other than this, the myths I'd read on him don't involve any prominent mythical figures or events. If you wanna ignore Strabo's account, you can make him Apollo's first lover.

Of the lovers that you've mentioned, i think it'd be either Hyacinthus or Hymenaeus. Personally though, I've always imagined one of the Muses (or all of them at the same time? Haha) to be his first lover. It makes sense to me because he was trained under them.

All that said, I cannot pin point who his first lover was. Because we have contradicting versions, some of which you'll probably have to ignore if you want a coherent story. So which ones you want to ignore, I'll leave it up to you. I hope this helps you a bit!

What's a notfic?

So, this was really common in fandom like 10 years ago but it's less common now so I'm just including this quick explanation in case. Notfic/Not!Fic is the halfway point between an actual fic and a prompt. It mostly sort of has the tone of describing another fic to somebody, or working out an ongoing plot with a friend (e.g. Instead of writing out an entire set of dialogue, a notfic might just put "Jason and Tim discuss why they both want to fake their deaths").

Ok ok ok so this is something I have pondered for a bit now that I have re-entered the Remadora fandom again for the first time for probably almost 15 years. As you seem to be the de facto keeper of some of the deepest headcanons of this niche topic, I am curious what your take is.

Question: How many people do you think know, at least initially/when it happened, knew Remus left?

Hear me out here. Ok so the book isn’t remotely clear how long he was gone because we only get an update in like Feb/March when Ron returns but the Pottermore bio that he was actually gone for like 3 days, which is still absolutely a dick move, but significantly different than being gone for *months.*

Now, most fics I’ve read at any point have included him *saying* in some form that he’s leaving, either in the form of a letter of sorts, or I do really like TauraNorma’s whole scene in Flying Colours in which it’s an in-person conversation, but beyond dissociated from reality on his part.

But, if I were in her position, I don’t know how much I’d divulge to others? It would certainly be a difficult position. If she did stay with her parents for that period, or after, (I do love Remus saying she’d safe at her parents’ house as if they didn’t literally just get tortured. Bro. Really?) she *does* have some plausible deniability of “he had to go to some Order business” to them to have some shield for her own embarrassment.

Maybe to Molly and Arthur as a “hey if my husband lands at your house or something, wanna shoot me a message?” but past that I’m not 100% sure how I land with others knowing. It seems very possible to me that when Ron is with Billy and Fleur, Ron, while listening to Potterwatch or something, offhandedly asks them if he ever went back to Tonks and them being like sorry wat. And Ron having the unfortunate task of regaling what happened at Grimmauld Place in August. I could definitely see it spreading from there and more of their acquaintances finding out from that discussion but obviously Tonks is like 8 months pregnant and they’ve been living together seemingly the entire time.

Ok I’m sorry this ended up shockingly long. I may not have been entirely sober when furiously typing it out the first time.

Ahhhh what a compelling ask, @millennihilism!

I'm honored you consider me the de facto keeper of the HCs on this, but I'll also be the first to say that there are a LOT of differing opinions on this one because of the lack of canon data.

You're correct that Pottermore says that Remus was only gone about 3 days. We have no idea what circumstances he left Tonks in. Letter? In person? Dashing away in the night without a word? Who knows.

From a close reading of DH, there's no indication of how long Remus was gone. You could say 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, 8 months ... technically all canon compliant if you're not using Pottermore as a source.

That being said, my personal HC is no more than a week, and again, I know that many people would disagree with this assessment of Remus's absence, but I believe it's a shorter absence for many reasons, including an answer to your question of how many people knew that he left her.

Remus is a dick, but he's not *THAT* much of a dick. He's a coward, but he's not *THAT* much of a coward. Remus does have a good bit of kindness in him, and he's brave enough to do the right thing when push comes to shove. Harry literally shoved him. I think that put Remus squarely in his place and shamed him enough to return to Tonks.

Remus's support system is down to almost nothing. He presumably has the following people outside of Tonks: Molly and Arthur, Bill and Fleur. That's it. He thought he had the trio, but that wasn't true, given Harry rebuking him.

We know from Remus that he's been tailed by a Death Eater for three days before he came to Grimmauld Place. If he's been tailed by a Death Eater, where could he have been? Certainly not the Burrow, where they'd find him. Certainly not Shell Cottage, as it's under the Fidelius Charm, presumably. So that gives us an idea that if he was tailed by a Death Eater for three days (curiously, the amount of time Pottermore tells us he was gone for), and just now got to GP to talk to the trio, he's been on the go for three days by the time he gets to the trio.

Because there is nowhere to go for Remus, that puts him in an awkward position. I don't think that anyone outside the Tonkses knew he left her. I think that Remus left, and Tonks vacillated between being sure he was coming back and being really terrified and scared that something would happen to him. Oh, and anger. Lots of righteous anger. I can imagine she told her parents by way of explaining that she was living with them now. It's possible she told him he was on a mission, but they didn't believe her.

Because of the 3 day ordeal of being tailed by a Death Eater, this is why I do NOT think that Remus went to the Burrow or Shell Cottage before he came to GP, or after, for that matter. While we know that Remus knows about Shell Cottage - when he announces Teddy's birth in the spring - we don't know when that information was given to him. I don't think Lupin could've been gone for months and months because we do know that Ron was at Shell Cottage, and he didn't mention Lupin being there. It's possible Lupin went to Shell Cottage for a few weeks, but I'm also not buying that for other reasons.

Bill is the most lenient and understanding of the brothers, but there's a huge difference to me between Ron leaving his friends when times got tough and Lupin leaving his pregnant wife in the middle of a war. Plus, think of Fleur. Do you really think Fleur would be okay with Lupin crashing at her house to avoid his responsibilities? She gushes about how brave her husband is in the hospital wing scene. She'd look at Lupin like the tiniest and most miserable snail in the world if he dared use her home as a hiding place from his wife.

I also don't think that Bill and Fleur would be on Remus's side over Tonks. Bill was two years ahead of Tonks in school. Bill might have kinship with Remus after being attacked by Fenrir Greenback, but that kinship, IMO, is not going to be enough to defend Lupin's actions on leaving his wife. I also believe Lupin knew this, which is why I staunchly believe that Lupin NEVER went to Shell Cottage in his time away from Tonks.

So at the end of the day, who knew that Lupin left Tonks? Initially, likely only the trio and the Tonkses. Remus returns fairly quickly. I can imagine Ron sharing Lupin's arrival at GP to Bill and Fleur, who probably had shock and disappointment at Lupin's actions. But by then Lupin's back home so it's in the past. I assume Molly and Arthur would've been told through the grapevine, possibly Kingsley too, and everyone just keeps it under wraps because it's Remus having a moment of panic.

And for how long was Remus gone? I take the 3 day to a week position because Lupin had no viable places to stay without endangering other people, which seems to be his number one fear. I also take that timeline because he's being tailed and he knows it. He returns to the safest place, his home with Tonks and her parents, where they can be in hiding (forever furious Ted couldn't have stayed with them?? why did he die??? it makes no earthly sense except to give Teddy Lupin his name and have another orphan raised by his grandmother??)

At the end of the day, I will never ever ever ever buy the idea that Remus was gone for a long time. He does the right thing when push comes to shove, and he was shoved by Harry. He is a coward, but when the time is right, he does the brave thing. He also loves Tonks, and Tonks is forgiving and kind. That's why they work.

Now I can bring up my beloved Vault-Tec Rep. Him in the Death Shroud? Perfect. Beautiful. Stunning. I no longer have to call him Paul Eiding as a very direct nod to his VO. Our Beloved David Dwecker is married to Sheffield and they have a house in Sanctuary filled with Nuka-Cola memorabilia (for Sheffield) and collectable plates (the kind grandmothers display for our lovely Rep). They have a little sitting area set up in the carport where they hangout, smoke, and dance together to Diamond City Radio. I need this for my mental health okay?

Shaun being Autistic is something I really want to explore. I truly forget who I first saw say this but it is not an original idea by any means. I also think the poor thing would have some level of trauma from everything so exploring that is gonna be fun! (no it will not oh my god I'm going to dredge up all my childhood issues.)

OHHHH CHRISTMAS. YULETIDE. FEAST OF ST. NICHOLAS. I find the "Seth Patrick" bit SO funny in Death Shroud so that is staying but also I feel like the feast of St. Nicholas got jokingly flipped into a celebration of Nick Valentine (Same with Valentine's Day) and people are beginning to forget the correct version. Nick tolerates it with an eye roll and a wry joke about people needing to read their history books but secretly finds the whole thing funny. Ellie has a santa suit for Nick to don during "his" holiday. Also the school children in Diamond City send Nick "Valentines" on valentines day and he displays them on his corkboard.

Music. My god the Johnny Guitar bit had me by the throat during Death Shroud. Expand those music libraries! Before you know it I'm gonna give Travis a rolling ladder attached to bookcases upon bookcases of records and holotapes. I want to hear people complain about how many Andrews Sisters records survived and God why won't Travis stop playing them!

The Flavor of Goodneighbor needs to be so complex. Like a good pasta sauce. I better be so overcome by the layers and smells and textures. Better Goodneighbor and Better Third Rail are really good starts but I'm expanding the shit out of both of them I think. I want to feel like Goodneighbor truly is dangerous to be in. Being able to cross most of the town in one sprint burst isn't cutting it Bethany Esda! Make it truly baffling how Hancock knows so much about the happenings in his town.

- 8. are about the BoS and I stand by them. You will get to meet my Lone Wanderer and learn about the hierarchies a little better. I redesigned the Orders and added one I think? I have to re-sort those notes lmao. Also the piloting thing is like MAJORLY important to me because the frequency of vertibird crashes in game pissed me off to no end.

Danse is just... Like That now. I can't wait to explore his character before and after Blind Betrayal especially because he will not be leaving the Brotherhood and he will still be Like That. [spoiler warning ;) for my story lol] I can't wait for the beautiful moments that will be born of it.

I actually kind of love some of the plot points in Death Shroud like the Mob Family wars? Staying 100%. Same with Ma and Boss Lombardo and some of the other families.

As is Charlie but I refuse to let him die. I got very attached to Charlie and his death was so perfect but this time he gets to stay alive dammit.

Magnolia sending Magnolia flowers with her letters? Genius

Vault-Tec Rep (David my beloved) being the saddest, wettest cat of a man imaginable when he's in Goodneighbor? Also fucking genius.

Some new Misc HCs

Diamond City is bigger and more populated, kind of in the same vein as the Goodneighbor HC. I haven't found a mod layout I like so I might end up redesigning it (Please kill me)

This is an old one from an ask! Hancock will help work the bar at the Third Rail occasionally. He's a notorious show off and his cocktails are mainly just straight liquor but he entertains the hell out of people when he dives over the bar to take orders and bother Whitechapel Charlie. There are major losses on nights he bartends due to the fact he forgets (sometimes purposefully) to take payment. Regulars know to put the cash in the tip jar so Whitechapel can collect it at the end of the night.

Another thing I'm keeping from an ancient ask, Danse wants kids. Badly. And the crushing blow of being sterile really fucks with him for a while. but he eventually comes to terms with it. He's also still touchy (as in he's always touching his partner) per that ask because I think that's cute.

I'm just going through old asks now lmao. Nick and Ellie dance together like the true father-daughter pair they are

Stranger things/Black phone crossover Au

Ok so I absolutely adore stranger things / the black phone crossover au fics. Like I actually can’t get over it or stop reading them, I can’t seem to find all that much on it but when I do I absolutely love itttttt!. Like it’s to the point I can’t get certain HCs out of my head so here we are!

So I think one of my fav plots (I’ve found like one) is of Vance & Billy being related and I can’t get enough! Or Vance being related to Hopper (especially as his son but that doesn’t work for this so Uncle Hop!).

Also I love the idea of them having cute nicknames! Eg

Billy for Vance : Pinhead, kiddo, little guy, terror

Vance for Billy: Billy Bee, bubba

Ok so hear me out. Vance and Billy are half brothers, Billy’s mum left when he was like two years old (bc that’s more convenient 👀) because Neil is an abusive ass who is also very unfaithful.

So like maybe a month later Neil gets with Layla Hopper (Jim Hoppers estranged little sister) who he was on again off again with, she gets pregnant and voila! You have Vance Hargrove!

While little Billy is sad that is mum is gone he’s happy to have a new baby brother (he’s not an ass yet that’s later)

it just so happens little Vance is absolutely obsessed with his big brother. Like he looks at him like he framed the sky just for him and he follows him around like a baby duck.🐥. Even the kids Billy hangs out with just accept that his Lil bro is probs coming too.

At this point Billy takes his big brother roles very seriously. He’s practilly the one raising Vance bc Neil sure as hell isn’t gonna do it, Layla is young, like grossly young for Neil but still legal, and she doesn’t know what she’s doing and while she’s not that bad she’s not the best and kinda just leaves the kids to it.

So it’s Billy doing all the things Like:

• When Neil is being a dick Billy will keep is lil bro distracted so he doesn’t piss Neil off

•if Neil is getting violent Billy will intensionally set him off if he’s worried he might go after Vance

•if his lil bro is having a nightmare he will put him back to bed and keep him company, with promises to watch incase the monster comes out from under then bed.

• he’ll walk Vance to the beach after he finishes School

• he’ll take him to get Icecream /make his meals

•teaches him how to properly insult people and how to make comebacks(just general life things)

Unlike what Billy’s like with Max, he absolutely insists that Vance is his little brother not half brother.like he’ll fight you to prove it cuz he totally would.

Also I can totally see Billy being the one who first takes Vance to an arcade and shows him pinball. Little Vance is absolutely fascinated and it Billy who teaches him how to play the game. They always compete against each other at the arcade, and Billy’s not the kind to just let you win (most of the time) so Vance spends ages practicing so he can win.

Then on the day Vance genuinely beats Billy, he gets a high five and an “about time Pinhead” and from that day in he is affectionately insulted with being called Pinhead and he wears it like a crown!

But no one else can call him Pinhead (cuz Billy won’t allow any disrespect (plus that’s his thing)) so people start calling him Pinball Vance!

Eventually Layla has enough of Neil’s abusive controlling ass and decides to leave him (good for her but my poor babies) and takes Vance who is like 8y/o at that point.

Lil Vance doesn’t want to leave his big brother, lil Billy is sad but he know Vance is probs better off (that doesn’t mean he wants him to go)

So the brothers part ways and promise to call each other all the time but sadly that’s impossible as Neil changes their number out of spite and Billy doesn’t really know where they ended up.

So Layla changes Vances name and he becomes Vance Hopper as a kind of middle finger to Neil.

She marries a guy called George Howle two years later when Vance is 10, this guy is basically Neil again but super manipulative and Layla is too tired to run away this time.

Neil married Susan a year later (he blames Layla leaving on never being married to her)and she moved in like immediately with Max who was 8 (she’s a Year younger than Vance and three years younger than Billy bc I say so)

Neil forbids billy from ever talking about Vance or Layla so Max knows next to nothing about him, barely knows he exists.

Billy is resentful because he feels like Max is trying to replace Vance (which is kinda what Neil is doing) but she’s not she just knows that Billy doesn’t like her so she decides she doesn’t like him. Neil continues to be an abusive asshole.

Billy becomes an ass because he’s a kid with anger issues, no outlet, and abusive dad, a stepmom who willingly looks away when things get bad, an annoying redhead who gets him into trouble and is constantly missing his little brother.

Vance becomes an ass and constantly picks fights due to the neglect of his mother, abuse of his stepfather, anger issues, missing his brother and at this point is practically a learned behaviour.

Ok side note, the grabber has already killed Billy and Griffin (sorry babies 😭)

The grabber kidnapped Vance (when he was 13 bc I need that age), the grabber has to keep Vance drugged bc he’s still pretty big and won’t stop throwing punches. The grabber gets cocky at not being found and Kidnaps Bruce, Robin & Finney (they’re not really in this but that could change depending). Does some of his awful shit to them, especially Vance, because he thinks he’s pretty and the grabber is creepy af.

The Bboys get their chance and kill the grabber escaping, Bruce has to literally carry Vance, Robins arm is broken, they’re all messed up and end up in hospital. Most end up in comas (for plot convienece)

When Layla was going to visit the hospital, she was speeding bc she realised how terrified she was for her son and desperately wants to see him, she gets into a car crash and dies before she ever reaches him.

George refuses to take Vance in because he’s a delinquent and is now traumatised so after they can finally track down Jim hopper (bc Layla had put him in her will as who would be Vances guardian and just never changed that) by the time Vance moved to Hawkins season 2 is ending and Season 3 is starting.

So like he vaguely remembers Jim but not enough to want to go live with him in the middle of butt fuck nowhere.

The Hargrove/Mayfield family move to Hawkins in 1984 (billy16,Max13, because plot and I say so) (season 2)

On the night when Billy is supposed to attack Steve, he gets attacked by a demo dog (not badly just enough to see it at maybe get a bit hurt) outside outside the Byers house. The kids come out and see Billy basically winning against this monster through the sheer will of not wanting to die.

Steve helps him kill it with the bat, Billy gets given all the details and after a minor breakdown and trying to not believe it finally goes along. (Part of him still hoping it’s just a dream). Eventually he joins the party when they go to the tunnels because someone needs to drive and apparently that’s Billy.

Demon dogs get torched. Basically the same ending just + Billy.

Steve:

BAMF Steve Harrington is one of my favorite headcanons for him. I hate the trope that he's dumb so much, and I hate it especially when it's reflected on fanfic and he's just... incompetent. Some people have a competence kink but I have an incompetence squick. So I always gravitate toward the idea that Steve has something he's good at, it's just not very visible.

Steve Harrington's parents are nice. Sure, we need the house empty so Steve can bring Billy around a lot, but they can be traveling like temporarily! I want as many adults as possible in Billy's corner anyways, and I love fics where Steve's Dad goes up against Neil.

Billy:

I LOVE the english nerd Billy headcanon. He reads all the books. Knows all the poems. Understands all the things. Wows all the Steves. It's also so much fun to see what literature the writers like that they use in their fics.

Virgin Billy. Listen. I have no excuses. But a Billy that puts up a front and has never actually had sex is so?????? Layers. So many layers.

After Billy starts hanging around Steve he starts to feels more settled (as much as that's possible). Drinks less. Smokes less. Is less reckless. Walking around Steve's house in a bathrobe with a cup of coffee.

OS by Rinse and Repeat has been a near-daily listen to me since the day it came out (on Josuke's birthday!!). It coincided with me throwing out Josuke and making up Gent, and helped me figure out which of my HC parts of him (the moral OCD and bit of a god complex) to really play up with Gent. Since it's a really good Spamton animation that introduced me to Rinse & Repeat, I wonder why nobody's done animatics with more of their songs.

Grindhouse by Machine Girl is the one I'm really hooked on right now. I got into Machine Girl 2 years ago because it was really cathartic to listen to when I was having my whole thing about Billy Kametz passing away and Josuke getting character assassinated. Now I crave this band like I crave spicy food!!

Also 'catharsis' is the second word in Locals (Girls like us) by underscores. I'm still new to this group, but this song scratches a really specific itch I've had in my head since I was a kid listening to Kesha. I've been on a big 2000s nostalgia kick, looking at stuff like indie sleaze and Frutiger Aero a lot. Class of '09 was very fun to experience blind a few months ago (and honestly Flipside wasn't that bad you guys you just gotta ignore the idiot creator and take it as a silly spin-off)

A very different flavor of 2000s nostalgia is in this band I've only gotten into recently for its very strong Gent flavors, Malice Mizer. Right now the song of theirs on rotation is Ma Chérie ~ Itoshii kimi e ~. It's cheesy and melodramatic and pink but in a fancy princey way, and I'm on the verge of saying it inspires Gent about the same way Prince inspired my idea of Josuke. Getting a clear idea of what kind of story to really put that guy into will FIX ME, I SWEAR!!!!!

This one I saved for last because I wanna pack in a bunch of silly OC explanation. There's four versions of this one song from the '80s that I think are an uncanny little representation of my whole story with the Josuwife OC who remains near and dear to my heart to this day, Beni. I'm gonna put that under a read-more because it gets kind of Long.

To sum it up, she was friends with Josuke for like one semester in middle school and was his Cool Exotic Friend (she grew up in New Orleans before this because her family was CAST OUT BY THE KAKYOIN FAMILY it's a very funny story she was the Kakyoin cousin years before Ryoko was a thing). This was all in like 1995 so the '90s cute Japanese pop rendition of this song fits it perfectly. Give Me Up by BaBe!

Then she moved away to go to a Catholic school FULL of Stand-wielding nuns and met this girl who was gonna be a pro wrestler (Oku's her biggest fan btw) and Beni became her VALET!! And DURING that she began a symbiotic possession thing with a ghost in a pilot helmet and that ghost is this dweeby 80s-loving Disco Dan type whose name is actually Daniel, and THEN i found the original version of Give Me Up was this really fun Italodisco song! So Give Me Up by Michael Fortunati would be something he bonds with Beni about.

So then we fast forward to 2003 or so, after the whole thing where Joseph met Pilot and was like "oh my god that's the guy who tried to kill my and lisa lisa's favorite student why are you a ghost and camping out in my son's girlfriend's brain" and Beni has a whole Mopey Arc about it before manifesting her awesome fun Stand and getting married to Josuke and starting their little spa together. There's a really distinct 2000s J-pop sound I associate with the spa era (which is still going today they're in their happily ever after and I left them like that don't disturb them please), your Capsules, your Seikou Nagaokas, your Megs. Turns out the second-most modern version of Give Me Up is that exact flavor and the SINGER IS NAMED BENI???????????????????????? So that's really cool. Give Me Up by Beni Arashiro!!

And FINALLY this is the song that actually introduced me to this whole Give Me Up Cinematic Universe, the Night Tempo Showa Groove remix of BaBe's Give Me Up. It's a flavor of future funk that I was listening to nonstop in like, 2017-2020 that I'm sick to death of now... but that means it's a little dated now in the way that really suits the Josubeni kid, Jove!! She's not very developed, but I'd say her closest comparison is Lilo from Lilo & Stitch. Give Me Up's Night Tempo Showa Groove remix makes it feel like Beni and Josuke's lives came full-circle in a very cute way and I wish them the best now that I'm working with their Jojo-divorced versions.

General opinion: I’d say season 1 Dan will forever be my fave. He’s a little shithead kid who gets the bomb dropped on him and he has to start reevaluating how he looks at the other people around him, but that starts to falter in the later seasons where he just becomes the stereotypical hero who gets all the buffs and does no wrong, which does his character such a disservice. I honestly like that he was such a dick in the beginning bc that’s how most kids are, but the point is they learn through meeting other people and experiencing shit. We were robbed of that for Dan after season 1 IMO. But overall he’s fine ig.

okay like being entirely honest i absolutely adore homelander i think he's stunning and i love the content people make for him but like... something that kinda bothers me and stops me from being able to fully enjoy homelander smut especially is the fact that he's literally a r*pist? and the way he treats women in the show is appalling i don't even care if it's the influence of trauma in his life it still makes me feel really uncomfortable..... idk it's just been on my mind recently since i've only recently been actively engaged with the fandom.

and like the whole butcher x homelander thing is really cute and the art for it is great and the memes are funny and whatever, but at the same time...... Well, Anon, I’m not sure what you mean by “fully enjoy”. Everyone’s mileage may vary and you’re not obligated to like all content for a character or pairing.

“The whole butcher x homelander thing is really cute”

Ha! Well it can be, but I think there’s always an undercurrent of LOL DARK in this pairing. Most people in Butchlander fandom seem to have a morbid streak of humor and most are pretty sober about the fact that this is enemy slash with a good reason to be enemies (at least for one side). It helps that Billy Butcher is no saint, it helps that HL has an unusual backstory, but if you don’t like reading about bad people getting it on, you probably won’t like it.

There are a few writers that I know who just outright reject the r*pe part of show canon (not my preference, but you can indulgently hc whatever you want, anon, no one is stopping you).

Personally: Homelander is not only a rapist, but does a lot of other bad shit too. The fics I enjoy the most are probably ones where his warped logic and skewed values are depicted explicitly, actually, and where he’s put into bad enough straits to re-examine some of that. My indulgent saccharine hc is that the effects of being raised in a lab as a weapon can be at least partially undone by tough but genuine love— yes, precisely from a person HL has hurt, where the love is definitely not transactional, rather than from Vought personnel to whom he’s bringing benefit and profits. … And that Billy would ever provide that, given particular sets of circumstances 😅

Fics that that have made me uncomfortable (and I still read them lol): ones where HL brutally r*pes Billy (basically Billy Butcher whump for having the hubris to think he could defeat a supe), and ones where HL enters a relationship with Billy having r*ped and/or outright murdered Becca and Billy doesn’t know about it (to me this is the most disturbing, heh, makes HL more evil than he is on the show).

As for art… a picture is worth a thousand words, and a thousand words isn’t going to be able to address all intricacies, so you’re even more free to hc whatever backstory you want onto a piece.

TL;DR you can enjoy this pairing to whatever capacity you find enjoyable. I think you should also give yourself some slack and enjoy things that you’re naturally drawn to that may not be morally upright, but that’s just my opinion :)

ok ok ok . so for as short of a time as we got billy - we got a LOT of characterization for him. like, even with max, we didn't get that much characterization. why? was it dacre? i lean more towards yes than i would contribute that being w the duffers tbh. back to my point - that backstory is legitimately one of the most intriguing characters i've seen in a long time. and there's so much to play with there! he's not just your typical cardboard "bully" -- THERE'S MEAT ON THAT SKELETON, you know?!?

"Which character do you think is most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?"

This one is not easy, really. A lot of Terror characters I personally really enjoy I also know literally aren't given elaborate canon characters so I understand they're. Not really 'mischaracterized', their fan interpretations which might be most popular just Aren't Mine, Personally. And a lot is still just a matter of preference and phrasing a characters actions as like, 'their intentional, malicious inaction' versus 'their incredible struggle and relatable lack of initiative'. So taking all of this into account. Going to say Billy Gibson. I'm just. So tired of So many fans somehow seeing everything he did and making him out to be someone totally innocent taken advantage of and manipulated in every way. He absolutely. Wasnt? Did they somehow miss Hickey's, 'I pressed him?' Line entirely? Did they miss the fact that he came up with the idea for a mutiny? THE FACT THAT HE TOLD IRVING, THE WAY HE DID? But I also still really like him as a character because that makes him so much more interesting than just a helpless victim so I can't stand how some fans just take absolutely no interest there.

"What does everyone else get wrong about your favourite character?'

My chosen blorbo Chambers? Technically he has so few lines 90% of the character I think is there is my own hc but I will say this anyways: I feel like people make him out to be both 1. Something or an orphan of some kind, and 2. Just like. Really innocent. Way more often than they should. The second goes for basically any ships boy. Like yes their whole thing was being younger and inexperienced compared to the rest of the crew, but like. Idk. I feel like a lot of fans either make them even younger and/or more. 'Modern' standards for what they'd expect of 18/19 year olrs at the time and place and I just. Don't see it at all. Which also ties into why I don't personally like the first thing with Chambers specifically. It's clearly canon with Young and one can't rule it out for Evans and Golding, but like. What characterization we actually do get of Chambers shows him being the one who seems to look up to, even admire perceived authorities like Sir John and Bryant a lot. Way more than others anyways. Even until the very end, unlike someone who seems to have had a much more probably desperate life, like Golding, he just. Never does any sort of mutiny, despite being in what seems like the same sort of position as any who did. So while I still feel like the idea is definitely valid and sometimes like reading about ot, I just personally feel like there's no way he was a completely destitute little waif, definitely not compared to the other 3 ships boys. There's also the fact that the historical Chambers actually had a family who were still aware he'd gone away and waiting for his return and all, which is, again, much more than the other ships boys had. But also I feel like saying I dislike most of all when people combine the idea that they're just sopping wet pathetic Victorian orphans And Also innocent children who know/understand the harshness of life so little because that's. An oxymoron to me. Pick One. Tbh all 4 of them could be considered my favourite characters less because I like them and more because I have A Lot of Thoughts on them i guess.

Of course there's obviously Gibson like I just mentioned, Goodsir for clear reasons, but keeping with my ships boy brand, I literally wanted so much to answer exactly this to say Fucking Golding. Tbh it's not really like anyone's defending him much, but I hear so often, 'Well, by that point what choice did he have?' Or some variation of him being like 'lead astray' by Hickey and oh my God. I get it, he's just a little ships boy or something, but did we watch the same show? (He's like one of the most tertiary characters who has So few lines so I do completely understand this and again, it's just my personal hcs. But like. Here's why I cannot see that.) Most use the idea that he 'didn't have anyone else' but this is the same or a similar idea to the idea that Gibson 'had no one else', an idea which makes a lot more sense in the context of Hickey and Gibsons whole relationship, but like. What. Does Golding have in common with Hickey? Like name 1 reason why he should trust more and be closer to Hickey than God only knows how many other just. Similar crew mates on Terror? And there is the fact that after/around when Strong and Evans die, they're seen together with Golding telling Hickey 'Take care of yourself' (this does in fact haunt me), but like. All that indicates is they had some sort of Connection, but not how deep it was in any way. Also there's the way we see Hickey interact with/talk about the men he does actively manipulate such as Manson, Armitage, and Hartnell, and of course correct me if I'm wrong but like. Goldings just about as able as any of them. One could probably argue less of a liability Because he could always try using his impressionability to his advantage. But yet Hickey did nothing with him, despite how apparently impressionable he'd be. And even if that were the case and somehow he takes a sort of solace in Hickey or Hickeys able to mastermindedly manipulate him slowly, so easily he doesn't even seem to. Be putting much premeditation or anything behind it. Even if that's true, what about when he was manipulating Crozier? How would Golding be able to come up with and do that (Actively Scheming though he did look of course) but see none of what Hickey did with him? And just. Why? The others loyal to Hickey by that point, we generally know about. We know about Hodgson and Tozer and why they're as loyal as they are. We even know more about Armitage and why he's involved. But like. We Don't know why the hell Goldings doing any of this, not as well as we do them. If he were really just the most pathetic, poor idiot being manipulated into it all, why wouldn't he just think, 'hm. Well there's . A lot of protection here with Crozier. And even if I'm not too fond of anyone here, we just have a lot more practical resources and all. And I could sell all of them out here and now and he probably couldn't or wouldn't punish me too harshly and I'd be protected.' Like. He could probably go on to assume that on some level. So the fact that he does all he does and chooses to go back to Hickey and bring back Crozier and others to them, to me, implies he was probably way closer to Hickey than we really saw, definitely had the premeditation to just. Do all that, and like. God only knows what else he'd do right?

I just think Goldings way more fucked up than most seem to acknowledge/think about and definitely not a complete idiot, arguably smarter than some of the other mutineers. Thank you for reading this manifesto of a post.
