The thing about monsters that is very appealing to me is everything they do or are is usually valid. Aggressive mindless bloodthirsty creature? Of course! Gentle beast? Yep. Evil masterminds? Not surprising. Morally grey complicated characters? Makes sense. Misunderstood sensitive soul? Of course. Roguish sexual icon? Well yeah. Romantic love interest? Absolutely. Their level of attractiveness doesn’t matter really, they can be conventionally attractive or downright hideous. From barely different than a human to entirely nonhuman. They can be in a hot and steamy romance novel or a wholesome coming of age children’s story. An established species or completely unique creation. Hide in plain sight in a society or be completely divorced from it and solitary. Redeemed or unrepentant. Antagonist or protagonist. They can be whatever.

Tumblr media
I am STILL on my MonProm bullshit bc I’m grinding through Monster Camp so let’s do some more headcanons! This time it’s gonna be Jin’s opinions on the some of the more prominent characters from the two games, and what I think their relationships (platonic or otherwise) could be like. Obviously these are just my opinions, anyone who has any of these muses is free to disagree, ofc. I won’t include player characters (yet, maybe once Reverse comes out I will update) since the PC personality is kind of fluid to interpretation and change based on the player. There are spoilers for both Monster Prom and Monster Camp regarding main and side characters.
This is in alphabetical order just to make it easy to navigate.
Aaravi
He doesn’t trust her, straight up. She’s a monster slayer with a history of targeting demons and even with her therapy and growth in Monster Camp he’s wary. He’s worried she would turn on him and try to slay him too. He steers clear when possible but could learn to trust her if he could see her progress with monsterkind more directly.
Batniss
He really doesn’t know what she’s talking about most of the time. The main character thing is weird to him, but at least she’s interesting. He respects her combat skills and her archery prowess.
Calculester
He thinks Cal is cute, in the way someone thinks a puppy is cute. He’s just so clueless sometimes it’s endearing, like watching a baby giraffe take its first steps. On the other hand, though, something about this sentient computer robot is a bit uncanny. Since Cal is generally so nice, though, he tries not to let the whole “potential robot uprising/singularity” thing bother him.
Dahlia
He has absolutely no interest in being anywhere near Dahlia because of her reputation as a warmonger. He thinks she’s dangerous and doesn’t want to risk being the one who gives her the idea to try and invade the 2nd Circle. He absolutely doesn’t trust her, and is honestly a bit afraid of her. If he were able to give her a chance (ie probably forced to do school or camp things with her, or if they had mutual friends for some reason) he could grow to appreciate her determination and at times enjoy her exuberant personality. She has the capability to grow on him if given the chance.
Damien
Similar to Dahlia, he distrusts Damien. He knows of the LaVeys, and as mentioned in my big ol 2nd Circle/Cubi lore post sees their whole “we made love popular” reputation as a bit unearned (because I’m sorta canon divergent, but see that post for the details of that). He also doesn’t want anyone from the 8th Circle’s royal family to get anywhere near the 2nd Circle lest they try to take that over, too. He would also probably resent having to go to school or camp with a prince from Hell juuuust a bit, especially since Damien is considered one of the coolest/most well known students/campers. He would be envious of Damien’s wealth and status since that’s something he lacks, which colours Jin’s perception of him. He doesn’t know about Damien’s softer side, so he sees him as abrasive, dangerous, and annoying. Like Dahlia, if he were to give him a chance though he’d grow to like him, especially his fondness for hairstyling and makeup since Jin enjoys the latter (and being fashionable in general). He does, however, reluctantly admit that Damien is indeed hot even if he is an annoying LaVey baby.
Dmitri
Jin doesn’t really know Dmitri but he knows of him. He doesn’t really care about whatever the Coven is doing, but hey at least Dmitri is a hot vampire who never seems to wear a shirt. He doesn’t mind seeing him hanging around because he’s easy on the eyes. Jin would probably find his dramatic villain monologuing and cape swishing a bit funny.
Faith
Out of the Coven members he would probably like Faith the most. She seems pretty relaxed and chill, and he would respect her intelligence and skill as a witch. In general he appreciates the Coven’s colour scheme and fashion sense, though.
Hex
He thinks Hex is straight up irritating but if he was high then he’d probably like their company more.
Hope
His feelings towards Hope are similar to Faith. He isn’t all that bothered with their Coven shenanigans but does respect them. He would be confused by all of the Hope reincarnations but he doesn’t have much of a problem with her. She seems nice enough.
Interdimensional Prince
Although he can be kind of weird at times (maybe even a bit creepy) Jin has to admit the idea of being whisked off to another dimension by some handsome anime-alien-looking prince is kind of appealing. He would like the attention and ego-boost it would cause if the Prince ever flirted with him.
Joy
Jin would enjoy her company. They’d probably get along, but he does find her “main character saving the world” thing to be a bit Intense at times. Despite that he think’s she’s smart and cool and likes being around her, especially given how wild some of their classmates/campmates can be.
Kale
They smoke weed together and vibe. That’s all. 10/10.
Leonard
Jin wants to kick him in the face so hard that he flies into the sun. -10/10.
Liam
Usually he likes Liam and likes being around him. He appreciates his creativity and sense of taste, but sometimes Liam can be a bit pretentious and annoying. That’s fairly manageable though, and sometimes he’s quite the breath of fresh air compared to some of the more exuberant characters he encounters. Jin would especially enjoy indulging in fancy, rare artsy gourmet food so Liam could take pictures of it and he could eat it.
Milo
Out of everyone, Jin is fondest of Milo. Their sense of style, taste (wine and cheese platters? yes please), flirtatious streak (and not to mention good looks) would have Jin swooning. He would also find their personality a lot more calm in comparison to some of the other monsters at camp. The only annoyance would be Milo’s constant attachment to their phone and their somewhat self-centred nature. It takes attention away from Jin, after all. Competing egos.
Miranda
Jin likes Miranda most of the time. Sometimes he thinks her royal merfolk ways are a bit confusing, and he is a bit distrustful of foreign royalty in general but less so of Miranda; he doesn’t see any reason why the Merkingdom would attack the Cubi or really have much to do with them at all, but he knows that royal life can be vicious. He does find it interesting to hear about the culture and society of the Merkingdom, though. He also appreciates her manners and poise. Plus, they’re both pink so he’s a bit biased in that regard. Sometimes he does find the more murderous aspects of the Merkingdom a bit unsightly, and it can be a little frustrating at times trying to explain commoner things to her. He doesn’t like that he would sometimes feel a bit condescended or spoken down to by her, but sometimes this has more to do with his perception than anything she would be saying or doing.
Morty
He likes looking at Morty but his personality is a bit too self absorbed and intense even for Jin. Still, he appreciates the confidence and the sex positive energy. Sexual tension always makes rivalries better so Morty is a perfect candidate for Camp Rival Camp in Jin’s opinion and his presence is at least entertaining and engaging. Also he quite likes the heart-hole shorts, a bold fashion statement.
Polly
Polly is fun to be around. She can be boisterous, but at least she knows how to have a good time. Jin also likes that she isn’t bloodthirsty or a war criminal or something, so in theory they could just hang out like normal monsters/people. It doesn’t hurt that she can get good drugs, too.
Scott
Scott is a himbo, Jin likes himbos. Case closed. In all seriousness, he would find Scott endearing because of his good nature and cheerful personality. Sometimes his airheaded antics can be a bit annoying, but he knows Scott means well. Jin thinks Scott would be a good friend because he seems honest, loyal, and kind. Those are also qualities that would make him a good date, plus he’s a big cute wolfman who Jin wants to pet in more ways than one.
Valerie
He respects the hustle and the on campus hook-up for all sorts of oddities. Plus she’s Vera’s sister, and he has mostly positive feelings about her so by relation he thinks Valerie is pretty alright. Also soft because cat.
Vera
Vera is intimidating but he respects her, in a sense. As someone who isn’t affluent he’s more wary of her scams and often disapproves if he thinks it’s taking advantage of vulnerable people, but so long as she’s scamming rich people he’s down for it. He definitely thinks she’s smart and an interest conversationalist.
Wolfpack
Bad, stinky, 0/10. Only tolerable because of their connection to Scott but otherwise obnoxious.
Zoe
Last but not least, Jin would like Zoe. He’d appreciate her creativity and particularly her ship fics. They would have a good time talking about crushes, who should date who, and the latest books in their respective favourite series (or perhaps shared shows or books). She also tells Leonard to shove it and since he wants to punt the kappa into the sun he likes that a lot.

Alrighty, here’s all of my Deltarune theories
1. Deltarune’s central theme\moral question will be something a long the lines of “The free will to do bad things versus the safety of not having the bad choices”. To put it in videogame terms (as Undertale was more concerned with meta-commentary about videogames than real-world implications) “Should a game give you the option to do the evil thing even though you should totally do the good thing?”. The world of Deltarune is... safer than Undertale’s, at least that’s how it looks like. You literally can’t do a Genocide run, you *have* to end your adventure in the Dark World as a ‘Hero’, you have to be good - no matter what you want. It’s safer, since there’s no chance of a Genocide-Timeline, but it’s... oppresively suffocating when you know you have no other option - and kinda creepy to think about the fact that even if you WANT to be a horrible human being, everyone is ignorant to it and thinks you’re a great hero anyway. The world of Deltarune is a world where *nobody* has a choice; the player is railroaded, Kris is controlled against their will, Ralsei argues we *have* to be heroes because of a prophecy, the Darkners were created for a ‘purpose’ so their Free Will might be kinda fucked. The “Pacifist” Ending to the Dark World segment feels like a rushed parody of an Undertale Pacifist Run, complete with going back and talking with all the monsters you befriended. But it feels... deeply unsatisfying because this “Happy Ending” was not caused by your hard choices, but because you just... did as you’re told. Plus, Kris and friends have caused no REAL change in the Dark World the way Frisk changed everything to the Monsters living in the Underground. Sure, there’s a new ruler in Card Kingdom - but the Darkners are still living hidden from Lightners without much hope of having “purpose” again. Meanwhile, in the Light World, the Monsters have lives that... fairly happy and safe - but not quite as happy as they could be in the Undertale True Pacifist Ending. There’s less relationships, less self-improvement, less people-choosing-who-they-want-to-be. No free will robs you of satisfaction and reaching your fullest potential, but on the other hand... is it worth it if it means someone (*eyes the Player*) will use that free will to do evil? Yeah, the Light World is not quite as happy as the True Pacfist Ending - but it is not the only ending Undertale has.
2. There are two main antagonist-forces in the story: The Angel’s Paradise, that force the Delta Warriors are destined to banish and whatever you wanna call the Queen and the Knight and ect. The Angel’s Paradise is responsible for ridding this word of choices, probably for that sort of ‘greater good’ of preventing people from making bad choices (Although, to be thematic, the Angel’s Paradise is also robbed of choice in some way). The Knight and the Queen and company wish to bring choices INTO this world, but like... in a bad way. By destroying and remaking it or something. They would be a metaphor for a frustrated-denied-Genocide-player. But they would also be potrayed sympathetically somewhat because, as mentioned - not having choices sucks.
3. Since the Angel seems to be the center of the religion of Hometown, I think Deltarune will be upping the JPRGness game of Undertale by having Kris literally fight against the God-Figure of their parent’s religion to restore free will to the universe.
4. The Angel’s Religion in the Light World would be very open about the fact that it’s all about personal choices being less important than safety. That’s why Toriel is so religious, valuing safety over freedom was always kinda her thing.
5. I do, at the very least, believe Toby Fox’s claims this is not a direct sequal to Undertale and it doesn’t effect the ending of Undertale that you got in any way. I espacially buy that last part. It’s VERY important to Undertale’s themes that all endings are equally “canon” and whatever one is real depends on the player’s choices and nothing else. I don’t think Toby wants to make either True Pacifist or Genocide or Post-Genocide Pacifist into the “Real Ending”. That hardly means it has to be a totally unrelated AU, however. My money right now is that we’re looking at a stealth prequal. The World of Deltarune is one without choices, by banishing the “Angel’s Paradise” and\or letting the Queen and the Knight destroy and remake the world - they create the world of Undertale, one where there are choices. Although the characters are fearful about existing their safe, railroaded world, they are hopeful this new world would be even better with choices. Although the ending is the “same”, it’s context would be different depending on what you did in Undertale. If you ended with True Pacifist ending, you have proven the hopes the Deltarune people had for the new world correct. If you did a Genocide run, then the Deltarune people just look like dupes and overidealistic fools and you have accidently proven the Angel’s Paradise totally correct about how nobody can be trusted with choices and you’re no better than the Queen whooops.
6. Undertale tells us the original meaning of the Delta Rune symbol has been lost to time. I’m guessing that although the Underground interpeted as a prophecy of freedom - this was all just conjecture and coincidence on their part. The real meaning will be revealed in Delta Rune, it’s probably the Delta Warriors banishing the Angel’s Paradise (IE, the Undertale World’s creation myth, basically). Question is, why is one of the triangles upside down?
7. Not only do I think Sans might be originally from the Deltarune timeline (and aware of it), I think he might be a Darkner. Implications that Sans might not be originally from neither the Underground or the Surface, and that he might not be a proper Monster - are well-documented in the Undertale fandom (”You must really want to go home. Hey, I know the feeling, buddo.” “look. i gave up trying to go back a long time ago. and getting to the surface doesn't really appeal anymore, either.” The fact that he bleeds, can dodge attack and we don’t ACTUALLY see him turn to dust.) I just never took them super-seriously cause none of the purposed “solutions” made sense to me. Sans as a Darkner, though? Darkners are not originally from the Underground, Lancer’s dialouge implies they can bleed, and we don’t know what happens when *they* die. Not to mention, they can perfectly dodge attacks if they’re ‘On Guard’. ALSO, the most consistent difference between Monsters and Darkners? Monsters have Black-and-White dialouge icons, Darkners have them in full-color. But Sans (and Papyrus) have black-and-white faces. Darkners or Monsters, THEIR PROFILES WOULD LOOK THE SAME. That’s the sort of Hidden-in-Plain-Sight twist Toby Fox is into. Papyrus is almost certainly a Monster, he turns to dust when you kill him and everything. So that would mean Papyrus and Sans are not brothers by blood or something like that. Maybe Sans adopted that little Monster Skeleton Child as his “brother” to keep his Lightner disguise intact and ended up really honestly caring for the guy as his true bro.
8. Speaking of Papyrus? Something is very much up with him being one of the only Undertale Monsters you don’t get to meet. I support the speculation that he might have a radically different personality in that timeline, but also... Sans only mentions hanging out with his “Little Brother”, he never mentioned a name. Could it be that Sans brother is not Papyrus? At least not yet? I mean, we still don’t know where Gaster fits into this timeline.
9. I’m betting that Deltarune Asriel is... secretly a jerk. Mostly because: A. Ralsei is an obvious Flowey-Analogue and he’s as sweet as they come so what does that makes of the analoge for Flowey’s sweet alterego. B. Everyone is just so fucking praiseful of the guy some other shoe’s gotta drop C. Deltarune has some real ‘Monkey’s Paw’ vibes in regards to what people wanted out of Undertale 2 (Dark World = Just Undertale Again with Some Terms Switched and Upgraded Gameplay, Light World = Hanging Out with the Post-Pacifist Happy Ending Characters) it only make sense Toby Fox would want to fuck with our desire to see Asriel alive by making him such a radically different (and asshole) person. Kris’ gloomy and antisocial personality might be a result of being bullied by their big brother while nobody notices and assumes Asriel is Just Such a Nice Big Bro and Great and Hot. I’d be bitter too. They could have, like, a sequence that plays on our expecations of Asriel from Undertale. Where at first he comes in and seem as nice and sweet as that other Asriel and the player buys into it too (even though Kris was in a position where he would have recognized it as non-sincere) only for it to be NOOOPE he’s a jerk actually! Why did you fall for his trap Kris you’re the one person who knows how he REALLY is it’s almost like you’re mind-controlled or something? Thankfully, since Asriel was last in town, Kris aquired a new mean purple friend who likes eating faces and doesn’t like mean family members.
10. As for the OTHER Goatson, I don’t think Ralsei is like... secretly sinister or deciving Kris and Susie - but I also don’t think his worldview is as sweet and correct and right all the time. His issue is more... naivete, and being just a bit too comfortable with a lack of choice. (He honestly doesn’t seem to realize why Susie isn’t really into “Well, the prophecy says you’re a chosen one so you MUST be a hero and act nice and stuff). Although he means well, I think more will be called into question about his worldview other than the Pacifism. I am also... kinda expecting the twist that he might not be the Prince from the Dark. Again, not because he lied, but because he was... mistaken. (In the Legend of the Deltarune speia tone thing, the Monster and Human clearly look like Susie and Kris - but the Prince of the Dark only looks like Ralsei because he is wearing a cloak, which is not his default outfit. I feel like this might be relevant). He wanted it to be true cause then he’d get to go on an adventure and be a hero and have friends - so he just convinced himself it’s true. Would he be so okay with following prophecies when he finds out that, like, Lancer or whatever is who’s REALLY supposed to be a hero and friends with Susie and Kris?
11. Also that part about Darkners being made with a ‘purpose’, to ‘serve’ the Lightners... it REALLY creeps me out. Ralsei says Lancer feels good inside about being friends with Kris and Susie because he’s ‘fulfilling his purpose’... Is it possible that maybe all Darkners are just... a little too suggestible to friendship from Lightners? Like the friendship with Lancer seems pretty honest, but maybe all the ‘friendships’ we made with the Darkners we spared had less to do with us just being nice and more about us accidently overriding their free will??? Scary to think about, but it fits with the theme of Restrained for the Greater Good versus Free and Evil. It could also explain the King of Spades’ reaction to Lancer saying the Lightners are his friends, as far as the Spade King knew this was more Mind Control than actual friendship. Maybe the Spade King doesn’t think there’s any way to solve that dilemma but destory all the Lightners so that the Darkners won’t have to worry about that ‘purpose’ shit anymore? He thinks it might be the only way his people could have free will? (Also there’s a real theme here about rejecting railroading by becoming a villain; Spade King being a self-professed ‘Bad Guy’, Susie rejecting the role of the Hero to also become a Bad Guy, probably Kris at the end)
12. As for the ‘purpose’ for which Darkners were created. Well, to be meta, I think they were created to be NPCs for RPGames... sorta. I don’t think the game is gonna use the term outright, but they’ll word it like the Darkners were created to play villains and secondary roles in epic-fantasy-stories Lightners made happen inside their realm. That’s why the Dark World follows RPG Logic closer than the Underground (you can sell items in shops, for example), and why all the Darkners are themed after things like Chess and Checkers and Card Games and Plushies. They were made to be playthings, games.
I think that’s it for my predictions to what’s gonna happen next in Deltarune, stay tuned to literally none of them being true in any way.

5. Windows or Mac: As many problems as Windows has, I find it more useful.
6. DC or Marvel: I don’t know much about either, but I know comparatively more about Marvel.
7. XBox or Playstation: Playstation. To be honest, I’ve never had much reason to get an Xbox.
8. Dragon Age or Mass Effect: I haven’t played either yet, but I have some of the Dragon Age games and can’t wait to play.

20. Would you rather forever be a little too cold or a little too hot: Cold, because a little too hot makes you feel almost ill

25. Team Cap or Team Iron Man: Team Black Panther
26. Fantasy or Sci-fi: Fantasy

40. Long or Short hair: I definitely like long hair better on myself.
41. Opera or Theater: Both. I’ll always have a bit of a soft spot for opera thanks to my violin teacher playing operas all the time and teaching me about them.
42. Assuming the multiverse theory is true and that every story ever told has really happened somewhere, which one of the movie/book/tv show/game/etc worlds would you pick to travel to first: Priam here I come

49. If you could create either a sequel or bring back any tv show/movie, what would you choose: The World Ends With You 2? Please?
50. Who is your favorite movie/TV character you look up to and why? Oh that’s a hard one. Someone said I look like Agent Carter the other day, so I was thinking of her. She seems pretty great. Also I should mention Dr. Brennan, since my parents already compare me to her.
51. If you were convicted of a crime, what would it be? Made too many Putin jokes

53. City or countryside: I’m more accustomed to city life
54. What book have you read over and over? EDIT: wow I apparently missed this one earlier, blame being exhausted. Anyway I used to reread Agatha Christie novels a lot. You'd be surprised as to how interesting it can be to reread a mystery you already know the answer to.

58. Games you want ported for the Nintendo Switch: The ones you’ve already mentioned, but also No More Heroes 1 and 2, and Final Fantasy XV. Maybe the old Harvest Moon games too.
And my question…
59. Say you’ve been turned into a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon-style. What would you be? In the Mystery Dungeon games, I was Charmander. If not Charizard, then Altaria, Espeon, or Oricorio (probably the Sensu form).
I tag, hmm… @ofanimeandbooks, @yoroimikoto, @charlotteswife, @prophetparadox, @etotheoneeyeowl, and @azuremessenger. Good luck!

Mermaid AU Headcanons
Lots of details below the cut! Mostly details of how Lenora’s type of mermaid works, but also some anatomy things which include nsfw details. You’ve been warned~!
Two Souls, Two mermaids
First and foremost, even though I drop the Mermaid sub-verse under the Reincarnation verse in general, either soul -- the Goddess or the Mortal -- can be a Mermaid. This adjusts their personalities.
Tumblr media
The Goddess!Reincarnated Mermaid is more musically-inclined and Disney-Princess-esque, with her big blue eyes and pink hair and usual goddess personality. She wants to learn about humans and explore the world, but not actually study them. She also never leaves her family behind. She always returns home after her adventures and doesn’t get aggressive no matter what danger she is in.
Tumblr media
The Mortal!AU Mermaid is more motivated by knowledge and wants to actually study humans and collect relics and read things. She has her usual coloring -- olive skin, dark hair, dark eyes -- but no glasses this time around. Lenora’s mother and sister remain home in an underwater kingdom, which she left behind to go out into the world on her own, but visits once a year. This is a bit of a tweak from the usual mortal Lenora, who is often far more reluctant to leave her family. In addition to this, Mortal!AU Mermaid is much more likely to fall prey to her natural monstrous side...
Appearance and Anatomy
Tumblr media
Boom! Anatomy of a Mermaid. Thanks, Google. But the important (?) part to focus on is ... GENITALIA, right?! RIGHT?! The best, simplest response I’ve seen is here. And it can be related to the image above and that slit just below that lower midsection!
Lenora’s fin has unique scales -- leptoid scales, to be precise. Now there are two kinds of leptoid scales -- cycloid, which are smooth and round, and ctenoid, which are spiny and sharp and have small teeth along the outer edges. When calm, her scales are of the former variety and of a soft pink color. When in a more monstrous/offensive mood, they shift and become ctenoids and flush a deeper, hot pink shade.
Back to NSFW stuff: her scales are solid and ‘hard’ regardless of their form, but above that slitted area there is a small section of softer scales (about four across, six high roughly) that part to reveal the genitalia underneath when necessary. It’s a very sensitive area -- think of the space along one’s inner thighs. Something like that! So be mindful where you rub your mermaids okay?
Her fin itself is thick and heavy, almost completely muscle, and 1.5 times the size of her torso. So let’s say Lenora’s torso, roughly, is 3′3″ from hip up. Her tail is 5′5″ long, including her fin at the bottom. This tail is more for brute force and strength swimming rather than precision, so although it can loosely wrap around things, it’s not going to coil and strangle someone. It can, however, create hella hardcore waves and smack someone into a wall if necessary.
Please be aware that the fins are made of a soft membrane material meant to help steer her / help her swim. They're not thin/frail/weak, but they can be torn, and then she’s kinda screwed until she can recover.
Tumblr media
Mortal!AU Mermaid, Mortal!AU Aggressive Mermaid, Reincarnate!Mermaid
Aggressive Monster Mermaids
Mermaids are still, to an extent, inhuman creatures of the deep. Though many have evolved past these bestial tendencies -- originally, they were created as servants to an unnamed Ocean Goddess (see below) -- there’s still a core instinct inside all of them that can be tapped into if they are pushed to the edge.
Their skin pales, scales become sharp like knives, eyes become slits, nails turn into claws, teeth become sharper... scary kinda shit. They almost become more like water nagas/lamias in this state, growing especially violent and possessive and vicious, and lurking in the ocean like predators do prey.
The Mermaid Curse
There are all sorts of variants of merfolk, as there are different races in the human species. Lenora in particular, however, descends from a specific sort of tribe of merfolk that was cursed by an ocean goddess.
It’s a pretty familiar ‘legend’ tbh.
The story goes that a foolish little mermaid willingly traded the beautiful voice the ocean goddess gifted her in exchange for the chance to win the love of a human. This was a forbidden betrayal of the goddess’ blessing. So if any mermaid is to allow a human to witness her singing -- even by accident! -- she is bound to their side until the human falls in love with her. Kind of a ‘WELL SHE RUINED IT FOR ALL OF YOU’ sort of deal.
If the human falls for another while the mermaid is bound, however, the mermaid will die a la turning into seafoam. Once the Human does fall in love with her, she is free from the curse completely! And, as reward for not effing it all up, she may then transform into a mermaid and human at will to be with her lover. Her extended lifespan (1000 years), however, will be forfeit no matter what form she takes, and she will age annually no matter how long she has lived.
Additional Rules
The Mermaid cannot tell the human the details of how to ‘fix’ the curse. They can only say ‘I belong to you now’ -- otherwise that’s guilting the human / potentially influencing their heart, which isn’t allowed. If you try to cheat, you die. Simple. Ocean Goddess is a stickler for rules.
If the Mermaid carves out the human’s heart and eats it, she is forgiven for her mistake and is no longer bound to him. Because he’s dead, but at her hands.
But if he dies for any other reason, her life will also end because now they are bound together. His heart stops, so does hers, kind of thing.
If the human attempts to abandon the mermaid, ditch her, lose her, etc. she will grow very weak as the distance between them grows. Eventually, she will die.
Once she belongs to a human, the Mermaid’s songs can only be heard by him. To everyone else, it will simply look like her mouth is moving but no noise coming out. This will change when the curse is broken.
The closer they become, the stronger an empathic bond the two will have. It will grow easier for them to understand each other and sense each other’s emotions. This will help the Mermaid determine how close the human is to loving her -- or another.
What is the definition of ‘falling in love’  for this curse? It has to be developed over time, tested and tried, and utterly unconditional. The rough part is that this could take years, and if the human’s heart is won by another in that time -- which isn’t impossible to do, considering the many issues there are between interspecies relationships and the deck already stacked against them -- it’s over.
Other Mermaid Myths/Facts
Do mermaids lead sailors to their doom? I mean, they can, but it isn’t their life purpose. Those are their cousins the sirens. They’re terrible.
Do mermaids have any magic? Their voices are enchanting and can help them get what they want, but it’s not so much magic as it is sex appeal and charisma and charm. Nothing really beyond that. They are magic more than they can perform magic, if that makes any sense.
Can eating a mermaid’s flesh grant you immortality? Jury is still out on this one. It’s definitely a popular theory, though, so don’t be surprised if poor Lenora is trying to escape some crazy people wanting to eat her someday.
Can mermaids talk to fish? No that’s stupid. They can communicate with them about as well as you can communicate with a domestic dog, but no there’s not chatter going on.
Do mermaids get offended if you eat fish? No, they eat fish. Just because they share a butt doesn’t mean they’re family. Get real. Just don’t try to eat mermaids!
Do mermaids have live babies or lay eggs? Live babies like whales do.
How do merfolk procreate? Mermaids have slits. Mermen have penises hidden under their scales to go into those slits (it’s like really protective under those scales, man). You do the math.
When she’s human does walking like she’s always on knives? No that would suck.
Do mermaids bring bad luck or ill-fortune? Only if she broke a mirror recently I guess
Do mermaids have an affinity for mirrors or combing their hair? Doesn’t every girl??? Especially if you get sea water in it all the time shit I’d brush my hair a lot too otherwise you look crappy right
More may be added but this is all my mermaid stuff for now~!
