favorite thing about them — HE'S FUN!!! like back when he was a kid he was a huge goofball, and despite everything, that clearly hasn't changed! he's more annoying than ever! the akatsuki generally...honestly bore me? a lot? but i've come around to tobi. i also used to draw him constantly when i was a kid bc he was the easiest face to draw lmfao. swirl.

least favorite thing about them —i dont like what he did to yamato :( not a fan. wish he wouldnt have done that.

unpopular opinion —i do think, as a kid, he genuinely cared about kakashi.

I know i just said that they maybe never even liked each other, and I stand by that as a very real possibility, but I don't think that means he didn't care. you can care deeply about somebody without liking them. you can care deeply about somebody while hating them. the two aren't mutually exclusive at all. care is based on love, opinion is based on taste, etc etc

i think kakashi pissed him off a lot, and i think he was routinely humiliated by kakashi (because like kakashi who was fucking. six years old. when obito was ten or something. was kicking his ass REPEATEDLY! good god!!! i'd feel humiliated too!!! 😭) and then Kakashi the nerve to be stuck up about it, and tell Obito what a loser he was. Salt in the fucking wound, Kakashi. Salt in the fucking wound.

but i also think he felt a huge depth of like, frustration that came from compassion for kakashi. clearly he understood on some level that his teammate was struggling with some shit and was taking it out on him, and that pissed him off, and he had every right to be pissed off about it!!!

but. he also told kakashi that he thought sakumo was a hero for putting his friends before a mission even though that alienated sakumo. and when kakashi lost his eye, and obito was dying, he had the kind of. compassionate focus, to be like "i can do this thing for you, even though I'm dying." and i do think there's a part of him that was like "maybe this will finally get through to you, maybe you'll finally understand what I'VE been saying this whole time!" and kakashi did! and that stuck with him for the rest of his life!

like. for sure, kids can have extremely emotionally complicated relatioships!!! He can both have compassion and fury for his obnoxious teammate. Let's give him a little credit, come on.

song i associate with them — THE UNDERDOG BY SPOON!!! i am OBSESSED with this as an obito v kakashi song, especially as little kids. oh my GOD. obito is generally somebody i connect w/ a lot of the music i listen to, but this one is the biggest one by far. i've literally been fighting off the temptation to make a fucking obito lyricstuck (BLEH) to this song for at least a full year. send help. send reinforcements. send a therapist. i'll need it.
