I’m serious, if you insist on going with “It was mental illness all along!!!” as a Twist™ or reveal in a mystery/horror/etc. piece, you need to write at least 5 more things where that’s not the case and you treat your mentally ill characters with respect to offset it, no more laziness, you wanna use this ableist trope you gotta pay in blood, sweat, and tears.

#I keep putting off finishing this thing that's ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD. BUT I REALLY THINK THE REVEAL IS GONNA BE 'SHE HAD DID' & I'M SO TIRED #guess I could just watch pure and cx/gf again. which is what I say every time this happens #idk like I really do love the mystery/psychological horror genre I wish we could have the equivalent of those two aforementioned shows'#treatment of mental illness in this genre specifically? IT'S MY FAVORITE. BUT THIS IS JUST. ALL I SEE. ALL THE TIME. IT'S GETTING RIDICULOUS #and like. ugh. it's not even that you can't EVER have mentally ill characters be bad people but WHEN THAT'S OVERWHELMINGLY ALL WE SEE #AND THERE IS NO LOVE OR PROMOTION OR ANYTHING FOR THE INSTANCES WE /DO/ GET THAT SUBVERT THAT TROPE.........UGH #also like. there's a HUGE difference between 'complicated and/or tragic villain with mental illness' (i.e. shinya or cersei or lady m) and #'lazy plot device/twist with no effort or research done at all'#idk it's just all a mess and I hate it out here #once again if anyone has any good mental illness/neurodivergent stories to rec PLEASE feel free #the real horror was the ableism we found along the way
