Maybe There Are No Right Words
Pairing: Will Byers x Henderson! Reader
Anon Requested: Hiya! Can I request a stranger things imagine where reader is Dustins older sister and will has a crush on her and always tells her every thing about everything and one day he goes to her for comfort and tells her how scared he is and cries to her and she takes care of him and they go and get icecream and stuff and and its just all fluffy because my boy needs some one to take care of him for once omg!!
Warnings: An upset Will
Authors Note: Reader is in the 15-16 age range because I super like the idea that after the reader graduates college and Will graduates high school a relationship could actually happen *shrug*
Y/N Henderson, his best friends older sister, was by far the prettiest girl Will Byers’s had ever seen. Even now, curled up on the family’s cream sofa with her H/L, H/C locks tossed atop her head in a sloppy bun, her vibrant E/C irises hidden behind the thick black frames of her reading classes her beauty still shone brightly. She had her nose stuffed into a copy of The Hobbit, and old and tattered paperback that she had read more times than he could count and did not notice him slipping through the unlocked door and taking off his shoes so that he could pad across the carpet in just his socks.
“Y/N,” Will croaked, drawing her attention away from the book in her lap.
Slowly, Y/N turned to face Will, her doe like eyes blinked up at him hazily as she was released from the spell Tolkien’s words had her under.
“Little Bit,” Y/N greeted, her voice light and airy. “What is the matter?”
Y/N placed her paperback face down on the arm rest of the couch as Will slowly approached her. She brought her delicate hands to her face to shift her reading glasses atop her head now that her E/C eyes were no longer swimming in a sea of text and shifted on the couch, pulling her legs so that she could sit crisscrossed on the couch. Y/N patted the space beside her, beckoning the teary eyed boy to her side.
Without hesitation Will spirited across the room and jumped on the spot beside her, taking her arm and hugging it tightly as tears threatened to spill over the brim of his eyes.
From beside above him, Y/N quietly shushed Will with a soft “Shh, Shh, Shh,” as she brought her arm that the young boy wasn’t clinging to and placed it gently in his hair, stroking it softly in an attempt to calm the youngest Byer boy down.
“Little one,” Y/N cooed as she looked down at the small boy beside her, “Tell me, what has gotten you so upset?”
Will slowly shifted his shaky arm to his pocket, reaching for a slip of paper that had neatly been tucked away. He handed it to Y/N, who slowly unfolded it. Will watched the older girl’s brow crease and her E/C irises darken as she took in the image before him. Slowly she turned to look at him.
“What is this?” her voice was a mere ghost of a whisper, but Will still found it comforting. It was strange, the Henderson’s siblings differences. Y/N, the eldest, was very calm and collected. She was soft spoken and gentle, kind to even the wickedest of souls. Dustin was very outspoken as well as sarcastic. He took no shit from anyone and was very quick witted when it came to clap backs. Despite their differences, however, the Henderson siblings did have their similarities: fierce loyalty and hearts of liquid gold, ready to give to their friends, no matter the price.
“I don’t know,” Will’s voice trembled. Will’s resolve was wavering under the Henderson girl’s concerned stare.
“Where did you see this?” Y/N asked. “Was it in your flashbacks?” Y/N’s slender fingers were slowly making their way across the page, the pads of her fingers darkening as the ink rubbed off from her tracing the monster’s outline.
Will bit down on his lower lip as he nodded, averting his eyes from Y/N’s watchful stare. Though he found her presence comforting, sometimes it was also unnerving as the younger boy had been nursing a crush on her for nearly two years now. Y/N was so pretty that sometimes Will felt his face heating up if they shared a stare for too long, so he made it a habit never to linger on her features for longer than necessary.
“I-” Will started, his voice cracking, “I tried to tell it to go away, on the football field, just like Bob said,” Will whimpered, “I tried to make it go away Y/N,” Will’s voice was shaking tremendously and a few tears toppled over his waterline to streak his pink dusted cheeks.
“But it got me. It got me Y/N,” Will sobbed loudly, and Y/N ushered the small boy into her arms, holding him tightly as he cried. “I felt it.”
“I felt it everywhere.” Will’s body shook harshly and Y/N hummed gently under her breath as she rocked the two of them side to side. She had pulled him into her lap, pressed his back to her torso, her arms locked around his waist as her head rested on top of his head.
Y/N’s presence calmed him, but the events that had happened yesterday were all too real and were in a constant loop in his mind, setting him on edge. Will placed his hands over Y/N’s interlocked ones as he continued to speak through is panic.
“Everywhere.” Will whispered, “I-I still feel it.” He whispered as more tears ran down his face to splash on Y/N’s hands.
“I just want this to be over!” Will’s voice rose higher than Y/N had ever heard it, her eyes widened with shock at the yell. The small fit didn’t last but a moment, however, as Will’s head leaned forward as he cried quietly.
“Oh, Little Bit,” Y/N cooed, “I wish I knew what to tell you, I wish I could say that it will all be over soon and that you’ll be able to push all of this to the back you your mind,” Will felt the loose strands of your H/C hair brush against his neck as you shook your head behind him.
“But I can’t, because I don’t know what’s going on right now or what will happen next,” Y/N shifted Will’s small form in her lap (two years of cheer leading has made her a lot stronger than she looked) and had Will face her.
“However, I can tell you that no matter what comes your way, I will be there to sock it in the face and help you through.” A lopsided grin found its way to Y/N’s face and Will found himself staring slack jawed as she spoke with such strong convention, “And so will Dusty, and Mike, and Lucas, and Nancy, and Jonathan, and your mom and even Hopper. We are all here for you, because we all love you so much, and whatever the world tosses your way, we’ll all be standing beside you.”
Y/N whipped the tears from Will’s cheeks, sending a flood of red across his facial features that the older girl failed to notice or wrote off as getting worked up.
Will sniffled and whipped his nose against the sleeve of his flannel before he leaned against Y/N’s chest, resting his cheek on her shoulder. Y/N rubbed her hand up and down her back a few times before she lilted her head down and to the side to stare at the boy sniffling against her.
“Thanks, Y/N,” Will muttered as he raised his brown eyes to meet yours. You smiled lightly and ran a hand though his hair to tuck it behind his ear.
“Anytime kiddo,” Y/N whispered, “Now, how about we go get some ice cream and forget about the problem at hand, just for a few hours ok?”
A small smile graced Will’s lips as he nodded happily.
“Great!” Y/N smiled, “Let me get changed and we can go!” Will crawled off of Y/N’s crossed legs and allowed her to bound up off the couch and down the hall towards her room to change from the baggy grey tee-shirt that had been her father’s and a pair of blue plaid pants.
A dopey smile fell on Will’s lips as he watched her happily run down the hall, and not for the first time Will found himself wishing that he had been the elder Byers sibling.
