see, literally this is why ppl need to watch more harem dramas, you pick up contextualizing tidbits like this so you can start learning/realizing the thing that you're making such a big deal about is, like, not even that big a deal, really

#also it's so interesting to me to see 氏 commonly translated as Lady when referring to women #I mean I suppose in a way yes it somewhat makes sense contextually?#but I suppose it is rather like the way we use Ms. nowadays #bc sometimes it's used generically sometimes respectfully but clearly the lady doesn't have a higher title #but sometimes it IS used derogatorily lol esp if it's for a disgraced concubine #me watching stuff #this is very interesting tho bc it has me revisiting the way I discussed translating 氏 as relates to MDZS
