♡ NOEL THE VENDOR ♡
A rejected "PC", now become NPC. Can be found in Connudatus Street Stalls & the bus stop in the Forest at Midnight to 4AM. They seem to be ordinary, but all the customers lined up seem to regard her with a certain politness, perhaps even fear. Proceed with caution.
For more info regarding Noel below:
Tumblr media
Noel was formerly a student and orphan named Riley, who was the town's rising track team star, being the best amongst her peers. Despite her popularity, though, it was agreed by most that Riley kept a small handful of friends. One in particular being a fellow orphan who was a few years older than her, before they eventually went missing; and Riley then, after.
Some assume it was due to grief, some think she was swooped away by what took her friend.
The reality of it being that Riley has always been someone with a hyper sense of awareness. Since she was little, she knew something was deeply wrong with the Orphanage: seeing the people frequent in and out of her older friends' rooms, the whispers of payment, debts. Eventually, hearing whispers of bodies found in the woods.
Hearing nothing for weeks regarding her friend's disappearance, she went looking and amongst the numerous shallow graves, Riley found the corpse of her friend. Spiraling into the worst mental breakdown, the night was a blur.
But, it can be agreed, that amongst the blood coating her body, dragging her feet to an abandoned home in the Moor, that Riley was no more.
Noel as a person is someone who always seems... off. For being someone that some in the criminal underground whisper carefully about, Noel often speaks hesitantly, unsure. As if gauging whether or not what they are saying is going to garner the right response. Often cagey, never really one to talk about themselves and often giving short, dry responses. Or just silence.
However, as the PC gets to know Noel, they come to find out that Noel is actually quite easily irritable. Squinting, and sighing at the slightest inconvenience and yelling and hitting at the largest ones. To Noel, everything can be solved with some form of violence.
They aren't really one to tell jokes, and aren't impressed by them either. Noel is actually quite a serious person.
Though Noel values themself and their survival above all else, at high love, Noel can be consider doting on the PC. Often fixing frayed clothing, 50% chance of being carried back to rest in her home if you pass out in the streets, and having a figure to vent to that won't say "that's terrible! i wish i could help you!" or "i should've been there!", but rather instead "why are you struggling so much? i sell weapons, buy the weapons i sell, use them, i am selling them for a REASON-"
SPECIAL TRAIT
Noel's special trait is her Paranoia.
On immediate first encounter, Noel's Paranoia is 100%. Any little action can increase Noel's Paranoia and the only way to lower it is by constantly interacting with her without doing any actions that would garner the wrong attention to her. ( Police, Bailey, etc. )
This takes time, and can take awhile for Noel's Paranoia to go down, making the process a bit tedious.
However, it does pay off, as Noel with low Paranoia will give the PC discounts at their store, give them protection charms for free and offer their home as a safehouse if they ever need it. They'll even take the mask off for the PC.
ROMANCING
Noel is... difficult to romance.
Due to having a volatile nature that is prone to violence and mania, romance is the furthest thing from their mind. And sex is almost non-existent in their head. If the PC tries to do promiscuous actions towards Noel, it decreases their love drastically as they are in fact, mostly repulsed by the acts of sex. They tend to sigh, and give the PC a tired look, or one of disdain depending on the love level.
And PCs with high exhibitionism, if approaching Noel with little to no clothing; the sexual act of it flies over her head. Instead, she urges you to buy clothes at her shop, dropping the price drastically so you don't run around the town nude.
However, sexual acts are still possible with Noel. It will simply have to be done in the condition of "fuck or die(not literally)", which, she will complain the entire time.
DISMISSING
it is possible to dismiss Noel when they are at 0% Love and 100% Paranoia. If Noel is convinced that the Player is a threat, Noel will try to make attempts on the Player's life; either indirectly or directly.
To protect themselves, the Player can either go to Bailey or the Police, creating two branches of Dismissal.
Telling Bailey results in Noel going missing for a week, before appearing again at her storefront. If the PC tries to approach, Noel will deny any interaction or offer of service, saying that their new employer has told them not to sell to any of their wards. Buying & Bonding with Noel will be locked out, and protection wards can longer be bought.
Telling the Police, however, results in a unique, variant event. During Avery's Poker Date Night, if Avery wins and brings the PC to the Elk & Fox party, when the sacrifice is being chosen, they notice a commotion coming from the guards and guests, with guards being beaten and bleeding on the floor. Numerous guards have to storm in to hold down & drag the surprisingly small sacrifice to the center of the room, a familiar face peeking out. Before they are sacrificed into the rift, Noel still has enough anger & fight in them to snatch off the masks of Remy & Harper, revealing their faces to the party, before grabbing another unsuspecting guest and dragging them into the rift with her. With the glare she sends the PC's way, full of vindication and rage, it felt like she was trying to grab at the PC, but took what was closest.
Noel will no longer be available in any way. Her character card only saying: "Noel has been sacrificed."

Take it for the Team by WolfSpider
It’s not enough to say the heart wants what it wants. I think of the ravine, the side dark with pines where we lounged through summer days, waiting for something to happen; and of the nights, walking the long way home, the stars so close they seemed to crown us. Once, I asked for your favourite feeling. You said hunger. - Mary Szybist, Incarnadine

the mercs and miss Pauling on a undercover mission at a pizza place?
Miss Pauling and The Mercs Undercover at a Pizza Place
Totally did not register "pizza place" as Chuck E. Cheese no way no how. (Gonna use that for a post later though.)
The Administrator has growing suspicions that a pizza place in Teufort may be the front for an illegal Australium trade, or possibly they're hiding their own cache of the good stuff. Of course, she's not looking to rat anyone out to the police. No, she's looking to take the sweet, sweet Australium for herself. Which is when she calls on the help of Miss Pauling, telling her to gather the mercs, and to set up an undercover mission to steal the Australium back for her.
The mercs are divided into groups of two (with an exception), based on compatibility, all given some sort of a task within the pizza place. How well will this go?
Miss Pauling
The brains of the operation, having to come up with a discreet yet reasonable style of mission for the mercs, so nobody decides to end up making the "undercover" in the mission mean nothing. As for her role within the mission, she has to stay in the background, being the one to watch and make sure everything is going alright, having something set up so she can hear the others, and what they're saying, or even any intel they may pick up on. She doesn't stray too far, staying close by with her pistol and some body bags in case everything goes south. She keeps close tabs on Engineer and Spy, since the two of them have a much larger role in the mission. She keeps tabs on the rest of the mercenaries too, sometimes listening in to their own conversations, keeping mental notes on anything she may have to tell The Administrator. Her role becomes a bit more hands-on when she gets the okay from Spy, to "make a delivery" of ingredients to the place. It does entail actually hijacking and posing as a delivery person for the pizza place, and supplying ingredients, but the boxes don't leave empty. Anything made of Australium gets to go straight to The Administrator.
Scout and Sniper
Given that they're, according to The Administrator, "the most normal looking" of the mercs, they get to play as duds in the front of house. They're acting as a pair of college students wanting to grab a bite to eat, using that to pick up anything that they can from anyone who comes into the place, or anyone who looks vaguely suspicious as a whole. Scout of course tries to take this a step further in being a ladies man, going up to tables with hot babes and asking for their numbers, or asking what they're doing in town. While on one hand this somehow works for gathering intel, occasionally, it also turns into Scout's flirting hour, and hopefully the hour where he can get laid. Sniper has to act as the mediator to this, usually grabbing Scout and yanking him back to his seat before silently scolding him about being too flamboyant. (To which Scout pulls the whole, "Me? Flamboyant? Lookit me Snipes, I'm the complete opposite of that." Whilst showing off what he claims to be an outfit for the ladies.) Sniper has never had to work "undercover" per se, his job just requiring him to take the kill and get the hell out of dodge. So, while he may not exactly be the most used to this, he's not exactly complaining. All he has to do is blend in and not draw any attention to himself. Perfect, if he didn't have to work with Mr. Boston on this mission. He believes in discreetness, Scout believes in flashiness, both believing in opposite concepts to reach the same goal. Though the only okay thing about this may be getting a free meal, and getting to see Scout make an idiot out of himself.
Medic and Heavy
Similar role to Scout and Sniper, but this time they're posing as tourists new to Teufort. They get to be a bit more direct in getting intel, talking with people and with staff alike to find out whatever they can about the supposed Australium trade. So long as nobody brings up mini-guns or dead bodies, the two actually blend in quite nicely. Medic, being the more extroverted half, takes over for talking most of the time. He tries to play the story of being a German tourist fascinated by the states, and fascinated by the history of Teufort, and also fascinated by the (im)practical uses for Australium, trying to bring up how it can be used for huge medical breakthroughs and to further the human race, or that it can be used to make a spoon shiny. All of this to pry deeper into the heads of those whom he suspects may know about this little trade going on, trying to pry deeper and deeper, and perhaps trying to even get in on it. So it seems. Heavy passes himself off as a longtime friend of Medic's, an excuse that works quite well given the chemistry they already have with each other. While Medic is being the more jovial half, asking this or that, heavy puts up the front of small talk and casual conversation as a way to get the people they're talking to to better trust them, better let out any secrets. He's helping form a cat and mouse sort of game, if you will.
Soldier and Demoman
This unique pair gets an equally as unique job, getting to pose as new hires. Is this a good idea? Great question. But, given the two are supposedly new hires, maybe they could pass it off. Demoman just passes Soldier off as his lead-poisoned friend who'll get used to everything over time. Eventually though it gets to the point where Soldier gets more of the janitorial duties while Demoman got to work with the food and make pizzas. The both of them are there to talk to the employees, and get to know the place. Soldier ends up being a little more anal about how he conducts his discussions, usually demanding them to answer lest he threaten to smack them with the mop he's been using. While he's registered that they're on a mission, he still hasn't quite grasped the "undercover" side of it. Demoman acts as the middle ground, either trying to excuse Soldier's behavior, or do something to make him happy. (Such as promising him bacon if he can relax.) Wouldn't say he comes off more convincing, but he does come off a lot more personable in comparison to Soldier, being very friendly with the staff and trying to lighten things up a bit. And in the end also trying to make sure Soldier doesn't have a major slip, always trying to cover it up when he almost outs what they're doing.
Pyro, Engineer, and Spy
Unlike the rest, these three get to nest together as a trio, having the most important job: try to secure the goods, or figure out how the trade was occurring. The three nest in the lower levels of the pizza place, where the fridge and supply room are located, but unlike the others they aren't posing as anything but a threat. Pyro stays a little more up front, nowhere towards the dining room or the kitchen, but closer to the stairs leading down to the area. They're there in case anyone catches on, and in case someone needs to see the fun side of fire. They don't only stay by the stairs though, going back and forth between there and the other two to check in, and to make sure that everything's okay. They're the first defense. Engineer stays somewhere between the stairs and the room where the goods are supposedly stored in. He has a nest set up down there, a sentry in case anyone gets past Pyro, a dispenser to make sure everyone has enough ammo and that everyone's healed, and a teleporter leading the three of them outside. (If the mercs spot them outside, that's their cue to get out, and that something is wrong.) He's one of the two who keeps consistent communication with Miss Pauling, telling her if anything's wrong, or just giving her any updates. He also partakes in a couple beers from down there, nothing to get himself drunk obviously. Just a little somethin' somethin' for doing this. Finally there's Spy. He's closest to the objective, the final defense in case anything goes wrong. He's the other to keep consistent contact with Pauling, giving her cues for when it's safe for her to enter, or if she needs to wait a minute. He also occasionally will run upstairs and course the area, cloaked, to see if something's going bad with the plan. And if not, he'll return back to his position. In the end, him, Pyro, and Engineer, will help Miss Pauling when she arrives to "bring the supplies", swapping the food supplies with the goodies and the intel, before Spy will cloak again, and follow her out.
From there, Pyro and Engineer would use the teleporter to get out of the place. But, they wouldn't all pool out at once. You don't want to cause a commotion, after all. Well, you try not to. Engineer did have to self-destruct his buildings after all.
Scout and Sniper would leave first, sighting that they needed to "head back to campus", because they had "a class staring in the next half hour", and that they wanted to get back and get settled beforehand. They'd leave once Pauling and Spy have left, and after Engineer and Pyro had left.
Medic and Heavy would stay a little longer to talk with people, eventually excusing themselves to head out. Their excuse ends up being that they had an early morning to go visit the Poopy Joe memorial, so understandably they could leave with zero question. (This would be followed by the people they'd been talking to murmuring and weeping over the fallen American hero.)
The last to leave would be Soldier and Demoman, having completed their first days of work at the pizza place, so they wouldn't be leaving until much later. Though upon arriving back to the base, Miss Pauling would tell them they could've just quit, to which the pair would look at each other and shrug, claiming they didn't want to be disingenuous about working there. But in the end, the mission would prove itself to be successful, even with the infinite possibilities where it could've went wrong.

Cursed Dungeon Meshi AU, with a vague attempt at the manga's style. They are 17 inches shorter than their canon heights. Maintained the height differences though!
Telesphore is an elf of course, Colette is a half-foot/tallman, and Eisen is a gnome. WAY too many miscellaneous thoughts about this AU under the cut. There miight be worldbuilding spoilers if you haven't read the DunMesh manga and bonus material
Telesphore is an elf because, obviously
Eisen's a gnome because that gave me a decent height difference with Telesphore while still giving him strong magic capabilities. He might have a bit of dwarf in him, though
Colette's mother was a half-foot, and her father is a tall-man with a half-foot grandparent. Colette is still taller than the average considering her heritage (I did MATH about this. and jsyk the numbers worked beautifully). I wanted her to not be particularly innately magical, and also this would give her an appropriate height in comparison to Telesphore and Eisen. Like, the AU is already gonna be cursed with how Telsie has to get shrunken, but it'd be even worse if Colette was a tallman and 8 inches taller than him LMAO
Colette still has the Kingmaker in this AU, though I forgot to draw it. In this, it's an ancient elven magical artifact.
Colette's still 25, while Telesphore and Eisen are the same age (190). I made an age comparison chart for the Dungeon Meshi races a while back, taking into account both age of maturity and life expectancy, and according to it, 190 makes Telesphore the equivalent of about 29 and Eisen the equivalent of about 47.5, which is close enough. This AU loses the dynamic of Telesphore being alive for hundreds of years longer than Eisen, and in fact makes Eisen the older one of the two (aging-wise) from the very start, but eh, I think it still works. There's still lifespan angst since Eisen only has 50 years before he hits the average life expectancy for gnomes, while Telesphore has another 210 years. Also I think them remaining the same age, as opposed to canon, but still aging differently is kinda fun.
The Kingdom of Valor is somewhere in the middle of the Eastern Continent, landlocked like in canon. The population is primarily half-foots, but there are also a good deal of gnomes and dwarves, as expected from the region. More interestingly, there is a community of elves.
Within Valor is the Seltsamwald, a bizarre and massive surface-level dungeon in the form of a dangerous forest that stretches for miles, held in check by incredibly powerful ancient magic forming a barrier around it. The elves are investigating it and maintaining it. There is no immortality spell in the Seltsamwald. The lord of the dungeon has not been found, but doesn't appear to be particularly active; in fact, despite being clearly contained and rather active in terms of monsters, it retains many properties of a natural dungeon. Some have theorized that it actually is a natural dungeon that's spread too far, perhaps cultivated by a mage in ages past, that was then sealed closed when it grew too powerful. However, it's not sealed entirely shut, and is kept alive mostly by the elves investigating it. There is very limited non-elf foot traffic, with it mostly being criminals that sneak into its maze-like forest. The Seltsamwald has been kept stable like this for hundreds of years. More recently, a group of elves have formed a small town within the dungeon as a sort of research post, named Sorbus.
Also within Valor are at least two magic schools, located there due to the plentiful mana from the Seltsamwald. One is for gnomish magic, and one is for elven magic.
The Desrosiers were half-foots. Ariadne is a tallman that's managed to prolong her life using ancient magic. (Though even still, in this AU she probably murdered Eisen's parents when he was the equivalent of like... 37, rather than 18)
I've spent a LOT of time thinking about it and I've decided not to try to translate the revolution and the closed Kehrseite portal situation into this AU. It's much easier to say Telesphore not being able to go home is just… a personal issue, because he's a wanted criminal on the Northern Central Continent, LOL. And the revolution's just a huge mess... I guess it wouldn't be so bad if I excluded the Good Neighbors/elves from the proceedings, though. These fantasy medieval ages are allowed a little populist revolution

saw someone on here (i do not remember who im so sorry) saying that Rook would get a bit flustered when he's the one getting kissed and stuff because he's just not used to being on the receiving end of somebody's affections and i haven't been able to stop thinking about it.
because of course. of course! he's so driven by his passion and devotion, but he's always the one being devoted and supportive. i've always seen him as somebody who would be a really good friend, somebody who you could confide in, but who would rather hide away like an injured cat when he's in need.
anyways the point im trying to make is that somebody should grab his face and kiss him stupid about it until he gets used to being the one who's being adored for once.
