i saw a tiktok a few hours ago saying how it was snafu who saw sledge tryna remove the gold tooth from the dead soldiers body but it was shelton who wanted to convince sledge not to do it
I just wanted to know what your thoughts are on that because no one ever talks about the pacific and im going insane over it lmao
AHH this is so interesting! Great scene btw, although i usually skip over it bc it hurts my heart a bit too much 🥸 and i also wanna start this by saying that i am absolute dogshit at explaining my thoughts…
That tiktok sounds so on point? I actually went back to episode 7 because I couldn't remember what happened but YOU’RE RIGHT?! We should all be talking about this more bc I think there’s a lot to talk about.
This scene is sooo full of little details that really makes it so impactful. What I especially love is when Sledge asks “why not? I saw you do it!” Snafu seems baffled, like he’s scrambling for a rational reason for Sledge to not do it. Snafu doesn’t have an actual reason other than possibly just wanting to make sure someone stays a little bit sane in that hellhole. But he makes up a believeable reason as to why Sledge can’t do it, and that’s the bad germs.
However I think they both know that Sledge doesn’t actually want to do it, he only convinced himself because he either sees it as a chance for revenge or to prove that he can do it (Not only in practicality but also metaphorically in a “i am stronger than the enemy” way)
So Snafu sees through Sledge’s facade and tries to persuade him into not doing something that's probably very heat of the moment, and that’s where we see the “Shelton” side of Snafu. Snafu pretty much always has this laidback posture and lazy drawl but at certain parts of this scene he gets way more animated than usual and to me he almost seems a bit panicked.
I choose to interpret Snafus' opposition as him not wanting Sledge to be like himself or not wanting him to sink down to Snafu’s level. Because why can Snafu pry teeth out of corpses with bad germs but Sledge can’t? ...I think Shelton cares about Sledge’s wellbeing more than he does his own but Snafu on the other hand doesn’t care about anyone, so it’s like he’s fighting himself.
TLDR; I think it's a really “sweet” scene (aside from…you know,,, the corpses and all that) and i think the “Snafu saw Sledge try but Shelton tried to stop it” is pretty on point
also did i even answer the question?
ALSO also i'm just some guy who loves yaoi, i’m probably just reading into it too much 😛
#the pacific#eugene sledge#snafu shelton#sledgefu#im gonna be so real i just zoned out and wrote this idk
