hi, so im a crotcheter, primarily, but i tried getting into knitting recently also. i got some beginner needles and yarn, and a simple pattern, but im really struggling. i can make a line just fine, and can make a scarf easy, but i cant double a line and im not really sure how it's going wrong. ive watched some youtube videos, but it still gets all tight and i just cant get my needle through a second time, nevermind a third. any help appreciated! (not sure on terms just yet sorry if confusing)
Hi Anon!
It’s awesome that you can make a row (a line) of knitting, and that you can make a scarf, but I’m a bit unsure by what you mean when you say ‘double a line’. To me, this could mean one of two things:
Are you trying to make a purl stitch? A purl stitch is where the bumpy part of the stitch is facing the side you’re working on. It’s integral to working stitches like stockinette stitch, seed stitch or ribbing. Here’s a video about how to make a purl stitch. Don’t pull the yarn too tight, and you should be fine.
Are you trying to increase the number of stitches in the row? Here is a video of different increases, and the way they’re used.
Please get back to me, Anon, and let me know which of these you need help with (or if I’ve got it wrong and it’s something else entirely!)
All the best with your knitting adventures.
Yours truly,
Knits
