Dying to hear all your thoughts on Adam Banks!
my thoughts on adam banks are A Lot, prob too much to be condensed into a single tumblr post 😭 but i guess my ~hottest take on him is simply the fact that i don’t think he’s the “sad, anxious (or even abused)” kid some people think he is. (what i do think is that he feels a ton of pressure because he's a kid who is aware of his own talent, but also that he loves the sport). like there seems to be a general consensus that adam never gets to make his own decisions and is always “forced” into them?? a lot of his behavior is also excused by making him a perpetual victim, which, imo, is a false narrative but also rids adam of having his own agenda. and it also erases his personal growth and the choices he’s made to better himself.
like, adam’s entire journey is parallel to bombay: to become a better person. becoming a team player who doesn't just look out for himself. like adam himself says in spirit of the ducks: “i kinda sucked as a human”. i love that he owns it because it’s true!!! he did suck!!! not because he’s the best player, but because of his winning mentality that was 100% shaped by the hawks’ “it’s not worth winning if you can’t win big”. i get that in the movies they don’t really give adam much of a voice and a lot of his scenes are left to interpretation, so yeah. the version of adam that i headcanon is heavily influenced by the source material (novelizations, old manuscripts) where he’s definitely a bit more ambitious, self-sufficient, and knows how to bite back/take care of himself. ex., in the novelization, he’s proud of himself that he’d made varsity. in the movie, it sort of looks like he's just disappointed/vaguely annoyed. also in the novelization, he yells at charlie during their fight that (charlie) is just “upset that your precious coach (bombay) bailed on you” which is 100% true and i still wish they’d kept that line in because no one dared to call charlie out on his BS when he needed them to. but i’m aware not everyone has read them, or doesn’t care to, tho.
#the mighty ducks#adam banks#also i've said this before but i don't think adam's dad is the villain in his story like a lot of ppl seem to#i think he did his best with the info he had (his kid being forced off his team) and showed up for adam in the end#i think that title would go to coach reilly if anyone#that said!!! everyone has their own headcanons ofc#i do be thinking too much about hockey kids 24/7

ship ask game! im trying not to dump every ship ever bcuz im curious, i'll restrict myself to these 😭:
- charlie x alastor
- emily x lute
- val x vox
You can ask more if you want!!! I'd be really glad
Charlie/Alastor
Honestly, it's a bit difficult question to say if i ship them or not. I mean, i't not the thing i would make content for, but i kinda don't mind seeing i around? okay let's say
I don't ship it
Main reason is that Chrlie has her girl? Maybe? I'm not sure? I think their dynamic just not enough for me to be interested. Honestly, dad-Alastor for Charlie is at least funnier
More chemistry between them in the show? I mean, they talked to each other only in 3 episodes counting the pilot. and when someone pointed that out, my mind was blown. Like... wow. Hazbin without it's fandom is actually very hollow...
Okay when i see any content with them it's almost always interesting and i see why people ship them. Because Charlie is so pure and naive and such a disney princess, and Alastor is so villain-coded that it's almost illegal, and they work together. It's cute when Alastor is still himself, but now he has one thing that he cares about and afraid to lose. BUT! I also saw a comic where Alastor just wants to eat Charlie quite literally. And it's also interesting SKDJKSDKL
Emily/Lute
Oh boy. I mentioned that before but i prefer GuitarSpear (Lute/Adam) but they can be also interesting
I don't ship it
They literally don't have interactions in canon. And for me as someone who's not big on ships at all it's difficult to pull out of blue dynamics for characters that never interact in canon. BUT!! They can be a thing in my Reverse AU since they replace Husk and Angel
I mean, if someone from my friends shiped them, i totally would join
I see where people coming from. And they look kinda cute together (okay okay i'm little bit weak for girls love). But i saw too little content with them which is a shme. People seem to hate Lute too much...
Valentino/Vox
well... i don't want to stick with the list for this one because... they're canon, but they're not my cup of tea. I don't like their character sepparately and so i don't like them together. I mean. Yeah. They totally deserve each other tho. I'm chill about them as long as their gay drama won't consume too much of a screen time.
Someone said that they're antonym for RadioRose and this is the most accurate thing i've ever seen about them
#hazbin ships#hh ship game#ask game#hazbin#hazbin hotel#charlastor#radiobelle#emily/lute#lute/emily#voxval#staticmoth

THERE'S SO MUCH I WANNA SAY ABOUT THE NEW CHAPTER BUT..
THE POSE IN THE LAST PANEL, JUST LIKE CLEVER, THE MIRRORING?????????????????
Also I like how despite Edge's manipulative speech he DOES see potential in Hopeful. And yes Jasper's a fool :D. Granted, good thing she didn't get swayed, but I like that you seem to have stuck with that with him from what you've previously said on the blog regarding how he'd see her. Let's see how he'll react to her being mentally strong as well. (Honestly I am on the edge (lol) of my seat to know what happens next.)
God and this is such a good debut to Edge's pride. It's so uncanny to see how "different" he looks when he's smiling and all dad-like like that even when talking like some professional business, since his pride might as well be in a way, like a white-furred Simba compared to his first appearance (and obviously the fact that he's evil and not above killing others *Still sobbing over Quiet amd Clever and now whatever emotions Adamant is going through rn aaaaa* and might as well be the equivalent to a Lion mafia boss, but still, it's weird in a good way and you nailed it). I almost wanna punch that face lol. But y'all have certainly made him charming in this chapter, Imma make it a double punch with both fists in that case. You have officially made him more likable for me than he already has been, I'll always appreciate when Word of God turns into canon. Like... god I hate him but I love him already now too as a character just from this chapter, why'd y'all do this to me? xD
And omg I love Bright already, she's so childish it's honestly kinda cute even if it's to the point of immaturity. I had such a different image of her before this but now... now she seems like she'll be a fun character to see play out in the comic and is so fricking precious. I need more of her now. I wanna see how bad she can be too. Evil(?) lesbians are so damn fun to write because I've done it before because my friend's was the same simple archetype (ofc that wasn't all to it but, it's the jist) hah.
Fade... aaaaaa, others have said more about him than I can but aaaaa. The way he looked at Hopeful, what's on his mind? Hope doesn't know her lil' sis was originally gonna be wedded off to him certainly, that must be so awkward now that I think about it. He don't like this scenario one bit. Though saying anything while Edge is talking might as well be like going into the bosses/principles/etc. office knowing they're your parent at the same time and it just makes things even more unpleasant than they already are.
This got long oops sorry..
ALSO STORM???? WHERE THE FUCK ARE YA? DEFINITELY ALIVE BECAUSE YOU NEED TO BE IN THIS STORY FOREVER BUT GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE AAAAAA.
DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT BEING LONG, it takes me a billion years to read, but its a fun billion years LOL
YES I'm so happy people liked Hope mirroring Clever haha it was a great idea presented by RJ.
Edge, while he did horrible things, does present a good case to Hope. Despite her experiences with her father and mother, she wants a pride, like many lions do, and he was able to lean into that.
And yea drawing him smiling and fatherlike was difficult, especially because I wanted to make him more vain with his expressions /but that wouldn't work/ because he's being completely honest here LOL He's not trying to trick Hope. He means what he's saying, and a villain that keeps their promises is pretty scary in my opinion. I wish I could've had Vanish and co do more, but they'll be doing more next time.
Once again I'm thrilled Bright made an impression on people. I like writing evil? lesbians too LOL Its so much fun. She is quite immature, but that'll present itself more later. I can't wait to show more of her.
And yea Fade is stuck in a hard place because his dad is actually good to him, but he's definitely hearing and seeing some things he didn't sign up for. He'll need to discuss a change in his contract.
AND STORM CAN'T COME TO THE PHONE RIGHT NOW, TRY AGAIN LATER!!
Thank you so much for your notes, I absolutely loved it LOL - Cat

Fair. Again, we don't know what Lilith is planning. We have only seen her once, and I mean, the fewer people in on the plan, the better; maybe even and Lilith swapped places. idk, we'll have to see
As for Lucifer, if he can neglect his kid for years and then come back into her life, why can't Lilith do that? His depression has nothing to do with it, ultimately he still neglected Charlie for years like Lilith is doing, except it was tot he point of her thinking he was disappointed in her
So i do still think my former points still stand, you can't hate one parent when the other was doing the same thing
Also, does Lilith even have her phone up there. Sure, Charlie can call he, but can she see it? I mean, I guess luci can call heaven, but he also kinda to do it for meetings, not to mention Adam would probably have a 'you cant call you kid' in his deal....not important, sorry I'm rambling
Side note, I actually wish they dived into him and Charlies dynamic more, cause the pilot is still canon so what she says about her dad there tells us they didnt agree over the hotel idea, which is slightly shown but not enough
And again, no hate! I like the fanon version of them, or aus and headcanons....it's just when people try to apply fanon to canon, I get irritated
As for Sera, to be fair, she is being shown through what Emily is seeing at the moment, with all the new info and stuff
And also she's shown to not like the exterminations- or at least carry some kind of guilt/shame about it, what with her tone and secrecy surrounding it all
Adam carries no guilt or shame, yet people villainous her but not him, which is also hypocritical of them
Also, honestly, i wouldn't be surprised if there was a power stuggle. We don't know if there was one. I mean, there probably won't be since we aren't supposed to agree with heaven, and their supposed to be the bad guys
What I think happened is that Adam told her false information, which made her allow the exterminations and all that, but that is just a theory; it seems like smth he'd do
And...fair enough, I guess? But I also don't agree with specifically this part of the...essay(?)
I was trying to make a point that if someone is threatening you, you're gonna react off of fear and adrenaline; and again you have to remember they don't actually know the people's moral wrongs and rights. I wouldn't be surprised if they only knew if the bad, downright vile, people who end up in hell and not of the more unfortunate people
And, not really? I dont think it's supposed to be some sort of social commentary, I mean, you can view it that way, I guess? I've never seen that be brought up before tbh; but it's been confirmed being part of the lgbtq+ community doesn't send you to hell. So, i dont think them being minorities has anything to do with it
And I think it's confirmed that even Sera doesn't know what gets you into heaven in ep6...tho I might need to go rewatch it cause I'm not 100% on that
Personally, I think the whole system is rigged, made where there were different rules and fewer people, and didn't evolve with said people, which leads to all of...this
Obviously, we aren't supposed to side with heaven and i don't, I mean, them killing people ocne a year is clearly bad! Like their actions are not good
But I feel like people are to hard on Sera for simple trying to protect her home from people who are indeed bad people, not on the same level as bad but still in hell for a reason
So I understand why the exterminations became a thing. And this is clearly out of a sense of duty not pleasure
And yeah, I mean, I wouldn't hate anybody who hated Sera, and I could understand, but I simply wouldn't agree since I have a different pov; same goes for Lilith
Basically- you got valid points, and I do agree with some and get why you have them. But I don't agree, obviously we got diffre POVs which is perfectly fine. I just wanted to respond with like 'okay you think this, this is why I think this tho'
Okay, I can't be the only one, who thinks it's kinda ridiculous how people hate Lilith right?
And I think it's even more hypocritical of people to hate Lilith but love Lucifer/Alastor/Adam
Now- I'm not saying you can't dislike a character, no....but we've seen this women ONCE, not counting the story/flashback
And frankly, I don't think she's done anything worthy of, you know, being hated as much as she is
"She took Charlie form lucifer" the fuck she did, im 90% sure that Charlie snuck out of bed and went to find Luci and Lilith(if it was Lilith) jsut went 'no- no. You're supposed to be asleep'
There was no clear context that Charlie was being taken away form Lucifer- not to mention even-
Okay, let's say that they did divorce, which I'm not even sure if they did, and Lilith took Charlie to live with her
She CLEARLY did not keep Charlie AWAY from Luci, we see portraits/pictures of Charlie as a kid young adult, teenager, etc, in her dad's office/home
We even see family portraits with her as a kid and teen/young adult, so the divorce was also probably not until she was already fully grown
Keep in mind, Chalrie is canonically 200 years old, or older, this divorce could've been when she was, like, 180 she probably wasn't a kid when the separated
So even if she was taking Charlie away in that scene, it clearly was not forever and honestly doesn't seem possible with the timeline
"She abandoned charlie" so did....Lucifer??
Like, she mentions him not contacting her for a long time, the one phone call she DOES get from him is about a meeting, not exactly a meaningful conversation
And if he became like this after the 'divorce', then unless lilith divorced him and then left. That probably means Charlie hasn't had a meaningful talk with her dad for longer than 7 years
Or even seen him, I forget if Charlie says that 'this is the first time I'm seeing him in years' or smth
Not to mention Charlie clearly still loves her and views her in a positive light
"Shes in heaven" Okay....we don't know why tho??
I mean, personally, I like to think she's planning war crimes against heaven and is using whatever deal she and Adam had as a cover up
But we don't know the reason, it could be a good one! it could be a shitty one! We don't know!!
We know, like, 4 things about this women and people are already hating her, and I just don't get it
Like why?? What's the reason??
And maybe im overreacting or yall havnt seen the same fans/thing I have
But I've seen people say they hate Lilith but love Lucifer, I've seen people paint her in a bad light to either have a villian/antagonist or to show Adam in a better light, or to victomize/pity Alastor
And I just don't get it, how is she worse then Alastor or Lucifer here?
Which, even if she does own Al's soul, I don't think it'd be a big deal?? Like....Alastor owns souls to, and Lilith isn't abusing her power over him(unlike Al with Husk), I think if she did own his soul, she would've stoped him from suggesting a deal/favor to Charlie
I can't be the only one who thinks like this either right?
i also personally dont want her to be a villian and i also dont want sera to be a villian either; Lute is a good enough villian
Sera ALSO gets hate, which I don't really get. Like this women is trying her best to run heaven by herself and make sure nobody dies under her care
Like this, women clearly has truama/ptsd, just as lucifer does about his falling. And for the exterminations to be fair, if I was told a bunch of rapists and serial killers were coming to my house, I'd grab the gun too!!
Doesn't mean all sinners are like that, I'm sure a lot are in hell for minor crimes, but heaven doesn't know that!
Cut her some slack man, I doubt she's had a nap in 4+ billion years
Also this isn't hate on any of the characters, I absolutely love lucifer, I just think that people needa stop painting lilith and/or sera to be the bad guy

Hi, sorry. So I am new to the st/efvater world, and I've only read one of her books (raven boys), and like I see you posting stuff about her a lot, but only like little bits and pieces, and I feel like I'm missing something and don't understand what's going on cause I'm not really in the fandom; I've just read one book, and don't really know anything about her. I'm sorry, this is rambling mess, but if you could enlighten me a little bit I would appreciate it.
OK I took a while to respond and I’m gonna try to be objective and polite but there isn’t a whole lot of objective politeness in this soul of mine, but I will try.
Maggie St/efvater (I only spell it that way so it doesn’t show up in her tag and annoy people, I’ll just call her Maggie for the rest of this post) is this fairly popular YA author, and she wrote the Wolves of Mercy Falls series, the Scorpio Races, and the Raven Cycle. Her writing is very good (I have some bones to pick about it as a writer but mostly it’s pretty good) and the Raven Cycle in particular has gained a big fandom because it’s an excellent series. I guess you would know cause youve read TRB- the concept is unique, it has cool magic stuff, there’s fascinating character concepts, and the teenagers do a lot of realistic teenager stuff like being annoying and cursing and either doing their homework or not, etc. And if I haven’t made it abundantly clear with my posts, a lot of us in the fandom fell in love with the main characters for many reasons, but especially because they represent parts of ourselves that aren’t often represented. Abuse victims who don’t react in a Good Abuse Victim way, poor teenagers who scrape and claw to get out of their shitty towns, mentally ill kids who have ugly unpleasant symptoms, girls who are feminists but whose feminism is a little messy because they grow up in a terrible small town, etc.
Unfortunately, the development of the Raven Cycle fandom online, like the development of ANY goddamn fandom on the accursed Internet, led to some gross pockets of fandom. In the second book, an abusive character called Ka/vinsky shows up, and some heavy subtext suggests that he’s gay and into one of the main characters, Ronan. He’s absolutely awful and monstrous to Ronan and the others, but you know how fandom is, they started shipping it and being like “Ka/vinsky’s just a misunderstood cinnamon roll uwu” and generally being the worst about it. Additionally, some parts of fandom started hating on the two lower-class characters, Adam and Blue, for not always being sweet and nice about the class privilege of all their wealthy friends, and for reacting "badly” to literal abuse and sexism. so the fandom is a mess, yeah
In the second and third books, also, (spoiler alert I guess? I mean if you follow my blog you can’t avoid knowing this haha) it’s suggested and then made all but direct canon, that Ronan is gay and has a crush on Adam. So, like, everyone shipped it because they’re a great ship and it was pretty obvious it was gonna be made canon in book four.
But Maggie interacts a lot with the fandom online, and obviously the clashing of fandom issues like this with any author would lead to some mess, but the way she treated it was....... terrible. She would make jokes about Ronan being Gansey’s “dog” and things like that. She milked the whole “writing a gay character” thing for all it was worth, and would never really say “hey, Adam and Ronan are a romantic thing” but would hint at it constantly, which, if you don’t know, is agonizing to watch when you’re desperate for any representation of your identity. She eventually said “I realize you guys are used to being baited, so don’t worry, the ‘other kiss’ will be between the people you hope it’ll be between” or something like that. And she would talk about Ronan being gay, but never address whether Adam was bi, and god forbid those words were used in the books. In the fourth book, although they do actually kiss and presumably get together, they don’t talk about it, and they never use the words “gay” or “bisexual.” Her excuse was that she’s writing for a world without labels. Leaving aside that that’s bullshit and a straight* woman doesn’t get to say that when we are out here in a homophobic world and saying our labels out loud is a sign of pride, she actually didn’t write a world without labels. The aforementioned Ka/vinsky is constantly using homophobic slurs to describe Ronan, boys at the private school make homophobic jokes, Adam’s dad makes lowkey homophobic remarks, etc. So labels are OK if they’re nasty and negative and used against you, but you’re never allowed to say who you are out loud.
When she gets called out on this whole mess- or a number of other things**- her response is to block people, tell people “if you are hostile one more time you’ll be blocked,” to reply to private posts by teenagers, to sic her army of clueless fans on young LGBT mentally ill readers, to claim that she’s being bullied and attacked, to make vague posts talking about “callout culture” and how it’s mature to avoid “discourse,” etc. I talked a while back about how I’ve made several fully thought-out posts critiquing her, but when I sent her a polite ask about her next book, she replied linking me to one of my own joke posts about “hating” her, making it clear that she apparently has me down on some sort of list of haters or something. And at least she responded privately, so that her other fans didn’t attack me, which has happened to other younger fans before.
She claims to be an ally, but she only really wants the ally points. She’ll talk your ear off about how brave she is for “writing an on-page queer relationship” as a straight woman, but when actual queer teenagers critique her for the way she writes it, she throws a fit and absolutely refuses to listen. She doesn’t want to do the work.
Additionally, she is writing a follow-up series called “the dreamer trilogy” which she drops constant hints about on her social media. It will center on Ronan (naturally, because she’s admitted Ronan is her self-insert and has butchered his character development for the sake of giving him a life identical to hers and fulfilling her fantasies of driving fast cars 24/7 and being an asshole with no consequences) and she’s making it increasingly obvious that none of the other characters we all fell in love with will feature at all. And basically any plotllines we enjoyed, she scraps (often out of spite?), and any plotlines we hate, she makes sure to write tons about (I’m talking about the magical artifact community. No one cares. We started reading for the house of psychics and Glendower and Gwenllian, not the fucking Greenmantles and their haunted doll babies or whatever).
The fandom obviously responded with like “ooh! more Pynch!” because like, fandoms like ships, but ALSO BECAUSE some of us are goddamn LGBT teenagers who are starving for representation and we want to see that “on page queer relationship” she brags about. And yet, at every opportunity, she makes remarks like, “This won’t be a romance. It won’t be the cuddle trilogy. It won’t have relationship drama, that doesn’t interest me. It won’t be fanservice. It won’t be lovey dovey, it won’t be cute, etc.” No, I don’t want fanservice or drama or the cuddle trilogy. But given her history, when Maggie says shit like that, I get worried, as someone who’s been baited a thousand times before. Doesn’t anyone see how awful it is to dangle representation like this? To say “ooh, look, someone who has the same identity as you? Juuuust kidding I’m not writing about it?” She can’t just say what we want to hear, which is “Adam will be there. I’ll say the word gay. I’ll say the word bisexual. Their relationship will be treated as real as Blue and Gansey’s or as any other relationship I write. Not the main focus of the plot, but THERE.” Because she’s not GOING to do any of those things, because writing actual gay relationships makes her uncomfortable. But she can’t say that or she’ll lose her sales.
And when she says all this bullshit about “I won’t write a romance” she gets so much FUCKING praise from her straight readers who think she’s the sun and fucking stars because their shit brand of feminism thinks all romances are equal and romance is insipid drivel and that a feminist book, apparently, is one token white girl who has a pink switchblade being sort-of in the background of a bunch of rich boys fucking around. I’m not saying I didn’t like that very book and that I don’t love that girl and her switchblade, but Maggie has to actually LEARN and IMPROVE and not go backwards. If she wants all this credit for gay representation, she has to actually write gay representation. And if not, I’m not congratulating her for “not writing relationship drama!!!!” because all that says to me is “yuck, I’m not writing gay stuff.” She says “relationship drama doesn’t interest me” and yet she wrote pages upon pages of Blue’s mother making out with a hit man. Relationship drama sure does seem to interest her. This isn’t her taking a Stand against romance, it’s her finding a way to make homophobia seem cool and progressive.
So yeah. That’s why she pisses me off.
*I know I know, “she’s never said her sexuality! How can you call her straight?” On the off chance she’s bisexual (she’s married to a man with kids), that doesn’t excuse her homophobic bullshit. She’s acting like an asshole straight person so yeah I’m gonna call her straight.
**Here are some other problems she’s been called out for and her bullshit reactions:
-Blue is basically the only female character and has no female friends or anything. Maggie says “well none of them had friends!” OK so why isn’t there another girl in the group? Why is her family the only other women who have page time besides villains and other relatives of main characters?
-Gansey gives Adam a lot of grief for not being fond of Gansey’s wealth, but Adam never makes Gansey apologize for blaming Adam for the abuse he endured? Maggie doesn’t have a comment on this, I don’t think.
-In book four, Ronan and Adam make racist jokes at the expense of the One (1) character of color, Henry Cheng. Maggie didn’t address this outright because “spoilers” but made a post about it saying that it wasn’t meant to be a racist joke, it was a throwback to some random joke from book one, and any good reader would know that.
-Blue isn’t a very intersectional feminist, which is fine, but it’s never really addressed, apparently because “all the characters are damn fools!” Who never get any character development except for Adam whose development essentially consists of “I stopped being prejudiced against the rich!” (and lots of other personal things but still)
Yeah, that’s about all I can think of. This didn’t end up being very neutral but I have class in 10 minutes and yeah this is hella long I just wanted to get it all out. I hope I don’t get shit for this, but you know what, anons? Go ahead, send me stuff saying I’m a nasty bitch and should stay away from fandom for criticizing poor Maggie. I don’t even care.
OH AND THEBROKENBREAKINGSEAS: THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION. I know I answered in a horrifically mean tone but that ISN’T directed towards you, you were just asking! Don’t take my words at face value, I’m super biased. If you’re interested, you can go read Maggie’s blog and Twitter account, or other fans’ essays on this, etc. I’m glad you asked! And thanks for still following me after all this stuff haha. I’m normally... nicer? I think? Thanks again.
