Meanwhile many places I've lived have things that are spelled normally. Or in recognisable languages that we study in school. And are pronounced abominably.

#this is directed at so many places but specifically:#font du lac (“FAWN-duh-lack”) WI #charlotte (“shuh-LOT” or “shar-LOT”) NY #versailles (“ver-SALES”) KY / north versailles (“north ver-SALES”) PA #among others. those are just the worst off the top of my head. it hurts me.#also i'm still so sad that Cheesequake NJ is someone's deep mangling of a possible Native name #why can't it be a cheese earthquake?
