Go touch some grass (09/08/2024)
The phrase "touch the grass" really hits home for me because I spend a lot of time immersed in digital worlds—playing games, watching movies, and generally living a lot of my life online. It’s easy to get lost in these virtual experiences, where everything is curated, controlled, and often more interesting than reality. But after a while, I start to feel this disconnect from the real world, like I’m just a spectator in life rather than an active participant.
That’s where "touch the grass" comes in—it’s this reminder to step away from the screen and actually experience the world firsthand. It’s about grounding myself, literally and figuratively, by reconnecting with nature and the simple, authentic experiences that can’t be replicated digitally.
This feeling of needing to "touch the grass" directly inspires my work. I’m creating an installation that mimics natural environments in a synthetic, urban space because I want to explore that tension between the digital and the real. My project is about acknowledging that while the internet can create the illusion of experiencing life, it’s not the same as actually being there, in the moment, surrounded by the sights, sounds, and smells of nature. This work is my way of processing that realization, and maybe even encouraging others to recognize the need to "touch the grass" themselves.

TWO BOOKS EXERCISE
30/07/2024 (Tuesday Morning Class)
BOOK NO.2
Title: SEE THIS SOUND (Audiovisuology 2)
This was the only book I could find related to sound in the library. All the books I wanted to borrow were only available online *sigh*
But anyway, the book discusses various scientific theories that are related to audio stimulations including artworks that utilize these theories. There weren't any quotes that interested me as it was mainly just discussing theories, so I've included an artwork that was discussed that I found interesting and may become inspiration for my final project for the ART+ compendium.

TWO BOOKS EXERCISE
30/07/2024 (Tuesday Morning Class)
BOOK NO.1
Title: Courageous Citizens (European Cultural Foundation)
"How culture contributes to social change"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, this book is not at all relevant to my topic, but I got sidetracked and was intrigued by the title, so I decided to pick it up anyway. What interests me the most about this book is actually that each chapter has its unique font and sometimes even a change in the type of paper used within that section of the book. Though this book doesn't inspire much, I still found this passage by David Harvey quite relatable and enlightening.

ART +
ART is intrinsically interdisciplinary; we all do research in other fields that inform our artmaking.
Art, by its nature, draws its subject matter and its compositional elements from a multiplicity determined by the individual artist. This means that you can inhabit anything that you desire that will meet the needs of the art object that you are attempting to manifest.
This can lead us into unusual places, far from the world of what has come before, into the outlands of all kinds of activity.  As Artists, we often engage in what is called Practice-based research: this is research that is exploratory, often open-ended, engaging in creative processes in the studio. By the same token, it could be highly specific and organised towards a particular technique of making.
