idk if this is a controversial opinion but i genuinely don't care if there are 100000000000 gyaru substyles
people regard the peak of gyaru with such holy reverence as if the substyles they consider "classic" or somehow more pure didn't arise and evolve in the same way as the newer ones coming about now
i think we're all a bit blinded by nostalgia
that and thinking everything posted on the internet is about us. someone mixing gyaru with other fashion styles has literally no impact on you or how you personally choose to be a gyaru
don't get me wrong i'm not a huge fan of tiktok-born hyper niche aesthetics for many reasons but being inspired by multiple sources is not and never should be a bad thing!!! especially when developing your own personal style!!!
and for the record: i'm saying this to other gyaru as a gyaru myself. regarding those who aren't members of the community i completely agree that it's necessary to be as well-educated as possible before making broad assertions about what gyaru is or isn't. and of course, it's good practice to understand the roots of gyaru before experimenting
#personal#i saw someone suggest that the only two substyles that should be allowed should be tsuyome and manba#as if those two didn't evolve from the substyles that came before them????#also i’m saying all this as someone whose primary interest in gyaru is old school so i understand the urge to want to return to the basics#but at the end of the day how others in the community decide to express themselves has no real effect on me#also also i’m very pro experimentation#in fashion and art and life
