I’m trying to comprehend how this would actually work. Because on the one hand I know that the “Evelyn doesn’t die” mods would come out within four hours. On the other hand, I know exactly how insane a lot of people in this community are.

I think the first concern would be perfection — if you weren’t already at full friendship with Evelyn when she passed, would you still be able to reach perfection? Obviously this wouldn’t be a problem for 2 year perfection people, but for everyone else it would be. Would her friendship points no longer matter? In that case, would people still bother trying to befriend Evelyn? I’d like to think from a moral standpoint that they would, but I know that people do whatever it takes to get completion. How would you get the flowerpot, for example, if you didn’t finish the greenhouse before she died?

There’s also the Evelyn-only recipes. If you didn’t manage to get to the friendship level, would you ever be able to make cookies? I think it’d be super sweet if Gus took those recipes and gave them to the player as well as selling the finished foods in the saloon, I can’t imagine a world in which Gus wouldn’t be cooking for Alex and George during this time. That’s who he is, it would be out of character for him not to do that. I don’t think he’d sell them — it’d be wrong to turn Evelyn’s secret recipes for profit. But if you were at an appropriate friendship level with Gus, or maybe with the remaining family? Then you’d get them in the mail or in a cutscene.

Also, would the map change to make room for a new headstone in the town cemetery? Would there be an option to leave tulips on her grave (if you didn’t have full hearts that could be a mechanic to get there)? Would she be there in the final summit cutscene with Grandpa? Many questions, no answers.

I’d make this a mod myself if I didn’t think it would send me into the deepest depression known to man.

i accidentally napped and had a dream (nightmare?) where a new update for stardew valley released where everything was the same except on a random day in year 3 Evelyn would just straight up die. There was a whole cutscene that started in her house where she collapsed, and then transitioned over to the hospital where Harvey gave George and Alex the worst news of their lives. However, they got to speak to her where she said something along the lines of "Yoba will protect me, and I am sure he will let me watch over you."

Alex and George would not talk to the player for more than a few words for a full season after this event. George would spend most of his time in the bedroom, so if you had less than 2 hearts with him, you could barely ever speak to him.

And Alex... oh my god, poor Alex. If you were married to him during this event, he just stayed in bed all day. Otherwise, if single, he would just stand on the beach most of the time, staring off into the ocean. If you tried to interact with him, it would just say "Alex is grieving... Better leave him be."

There was also other NPC dialogue like mayor Lewis saying "I haven't seen the community in this state of mourning since your grandfather passed..."

there was also a glitch where you could make Evelyn live forever and there were entire guides for the "immortal Evelyn glitch" that got patched out in the next update. If you tried to perform the glitch after the patch, mr. Qi would tell you that "hey, it happens to all of us. We can't prevent it, and neither can you, no matter how hard you try."
