watching mcu's agatha all along and i LOVE the idea of the magical girlies in ever after high forming a witchy coven of their own (mattel please steal this idea and launch a spooky eah doll line for halloween and revive the franchise ok thanks)
for the 5 magical girls needed for the coven: raven as the coven leader, ginger as the potions witch, farrah as the protection witch, faybelle as the green witch and cupid as the divination witch
raven as the coven leader is obvious as she's probably the most powerful of the five (as much as faybelle hates to admit it.) she'll hesitate to become the leader but step up when the time needs it.
ginger as the potions witch. recipes are just more complicated potions and ginger is a master at them. standard potions taste gross and awful but all of ginger's potions are as sweet as she is.
farrah as the protection witch because what is the godmother's role but to protect her godchild? her spells have a time limit but that doesn't ever stop her from trying to protect her coven sisters as best as she can
faybelle as the green witch because fairies like her are deeply connected to the forest and woods. her power represents how nature can nourish as well as it can corrupt and consume.
cupid as the divination witch. her divination specializes in love as she can tell where amd with who people's hearts truly lie. knowing when people tend to lie or hide their true emotion. the world of ever after was written in a storybook her father gave to her and she read their stories before coming to ever after and has knowledge that others might not know.
headcanons if this was a special!!! (like true hearts day or thronecoming)
some magical mystery is afoot at ever after and these 5 have to team up together to solve it
there's a mysterious curse and they're the only ones unaffected in the school due to their own magic protecting them
baba yaga (still affected by the curse but not as harsh) gathers the girls in her hut and explains to them their mission to save their friends
before she sets them on their journey, she outfits them with her own magical artifacts that she's collected throughout her life and casts her own enchantment spell on them to protect them
then bam! magical girl transformation into their new spooky but fableous outfits (i need like enchantix music playing in the background too)
i'm thinking witchy hats, their pets becoming their familiars, magical staffs and wands, a few flying brooms and some fantastic capes and cloaks
have no idea what the rest of the plot is but, in my head, the hex girls are on the soundtrack

the ballad of fancy uncle chucklefuck, pt. 9
anyone remember how fancy uncle chucklefuck started his cleric career by threatening god
well he DID ask the Tiefling Lockadin Dad (henceforth known as....Lockadad??) for advice on How to Engage One's God Peaceably
bc he had earlier walked in on Lockadad gently lecturing his corpse-god (who had broken into his house to modify his old armor; normal god behavior) on wearing something warmer (normal lockadin behavior!)
then instantly bailed bc the last time uncle chucklefuck saw that corpse-god, it was trying to strangle him ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
anyway Lockadad was like "yeah maybe next time DON'T threaten them?? idk man i kind of try to talk to my god like she's a...toddler? they think differently than we do."
"cool," said uncle chucklefuck, who immediately went to sit down with his god and threaten them again
(to the tune of "hey i didn't think you could change, but apparently you can -- which is kind of awful! bc if you could've been different THEN why are you only changing NOW? anyway you'd better stay different, or -- idk, but i'm pretty sure you need me, so!!")
the good news is that he realized he was indeed threatening it again and tried to backpedal
the bad news is he's started to figure out just what's different abt his god vs. the last he knew of it, and it's that the god seems to have...absorbed...? eaten...? some part of his dead lover's soul. ........bad, actually.
the better news is that fancy uncle chucklefuck is finding some comfort and security in 1) being the project manager for Vampire Murder Shenanigans, 2) teaching the feral hagdaughter how to pick locks.
also finally figuring out how to give ppl advice and MAYBE convince them to listen to him? (hey actually maybe DON'T trust the lesser of two evils -- they very much can and will dick you over anyway!!)
anyway next month we're going traveling with that theater troupe and nothing will be spooky about that probably woooo

GiTM Characters - as Tom Cardy Songs
A Good Enough Tm List.
Hello and welcome to a very silly list I decided to make this morning. It is now a full 12 hours later and my vision must be shared.
Tom Cardy is fantastic, and even without this silly list, I do think y'all should check him out! But keep in mind, a lot of these songs are suggestive/NSFW for various reasons, so maybe put in some headphones first.
Also, I make these silly suggestions, every single one of them, out of immense love for these characters, so if one seems mean… I am ragging on them. I am pulling on their rays in the playground or whatever.
I love each and every one of them, scouts honor. And with that out of the way….
Wonderful @/venomous-qwille's Ghost in the Machine Cast - specifically as Tom Cardy songs only.
Part 1: I Will Not Be Taking Feedback I Am Correct:
Clip.exe: Red Flags
youtube
I love Clip.exe so so much it is unreal. He's a freak /endlessly affectionate. If i am feeling particularly silly with him, then i can offer a second for young, baby Clip: Monster Truck. Either way, I am kissing him.
Sanii: Hot Shit
youtube
He is. I would pay an inconceivable amount of money to see this. I want to see him performing this in a silly glittering red jacket to try and cheer Misuta up.
Nova: The Ballad of Smokin' Joe Rudeboy
youtube
This beautiful, perfect man. Important context: Fool is singing it, narrating our wonderful tale, and Nova is performing his ass off and having a blast. He is wearing a cowboy hat and yes, one of his rays is sticking through it. I love Nova. I am kissing him right on his face.
Noon: Artificial Intelligence
youtube
He would sing this song and you wouldn't even need to ask him to.
y/n: Repress it!
Look at that, we get a song too. :) Almost forgot to, tbh.
Part 2: I Got My Reasons:
Soleil: Read Between the Lines
youtube
Can I picture him singing it? No. I will not pretend. There are certain lines, however, I absolutely can. He very nearly falls into the 'Didn't Wanna Leave Anybody Out' category, but I just. I needed to manifest this.
Fool: Perception Check
youtube
You know, I don't think I need to explain this one.
Sunspot: My Secret Shame
youtube
Oh darling Spot, it might very well be there's another song that fits you better, but imagining this one, which is so sweet and harmless but absolutely on point for something that WOULD be his shame, made me almost break down laughing at work.
Misuta: All the Stupid Things I've Ever Done
youtube
:)
Sandman: Level Clear!
youtube
Sandy is kind of riding the line between this category and the next, but like. I give him this one because I cannot wait to see what this little man has going on, and I really wonder what his life has been like! I just know there's trauma under that hat.
Harvest: About 8 hours
youtube
There was another song here but this was a late suggestion that I realized was simply. Too correct.
Part 3: I Didn't Wanna Leave Anybody Out and By This Point I Was Invested And Too Proud to Back Down (I Will Take Cardy Suggestions Here):
This section is particularly silly.
Ruin: Love Language
The angle. I confess: I forGOT them. I am a fake fan. But I come with a secondary song for Ruin.
Call your Mother (just links now because there is a 10 video limit woopsie): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV5HKWRMyAY
Profanity aside - and the funniness of imagining Influencer Ruin - I think this is about as accurate as this section gets.
Part 4: JK i backed down instantly
Sunflower & Sombra
I had to admit defeat with these two. I don't think there is one by Tom Cardy that fits Sunflower, but I know so little about her I... As for Sombra, I did have a joke one but later (right now) accepted I also know very little about him. I toss in my hat on these two, I have done my best. 😔
I also debated an extra song for Nova - and a particularly silly one for Sol - but I thought I should cut myself off before I lost myself completely in the sauce. I suppose it works out, since I ran out of video embeds (oops).
Thank you for attending this uh. Post? Yes.

JAVIERA MENA - "VOLVER A LLORAR"
youtube
Don’t cry! There’s new Javiera Mena to listen to…
[6.86]
Alfred Soto: One of TSJ's Olympians returns with an acoustic lament about a lover who needs to turn off their brain and look at the stars. The bridge is Javiera Mena at her best: a poignant, sinister supplicant. [7]
Kayla Beardslee: Softer yet more haunting than her usual icy electropop singles, but as with any good Javiera track, I’m left thinking about how the music interlaces with her wistful vocals well after the song has ended. The sentimental and the spooky will inherit the earth. (Or at least the Jukebox -- we’ve written Javiera into the site’s will by now, right?) [7]
Mark Sinker: There’s something funny and sweet about outing yrself as a rigorous goth girlie — loves Siouxsie! loves shoegaze! — this far in, and while the song itself is a gauzily slight vapour, no more, it is entirely plausible that the ageless undead (who don’t have working hearts) would affect to sway a little to some pleasantly beatless bossa nova. Memory is really no longer a matter for precision for a vampire.  [5]
Ian Mathers: The goth romanticism of vampires really hasn't been getting a fair shake in pop culture recently, so kudos to Mena for putting it right back in there: "dare to feel that bitter suffering" and all that. And of course it's that rare example of a sweeping ballad that actually has a pulse. Eternal life just so you can keep crying forever — what a concept! [9]
Jonathan Bradley: A gentle guitar arpeggio suggests “Volver a Llorar” will be a polite folk exercise, but Javiera Mena remains too interesting an artist for that kind of dignified but dull work. As the track builds, strings bloom like blood seeping into water, while a bed of subtle but thrumming vocal loops hiccup an accompaniment. Still polite, perhaps, but also rather beautiful. [7]
Katherine St. Asaph: So steep a plunge from her previous heights that it's almost offensive. Javiera Mena is not supposed to sound like the Lumineers! The strings toward the end almost salvage it; the Porter Robinson vocal pongs do not. [3]
Nortey Dowuona: Sandra Mihanovich and Celeste Carballo came from very different upbringings but were connected by their brief romance, and their brave duology of albums Somos Mucho Mas Que Dos (We Are Much More Than Two) in 1988 and Mujer Contra Mujer (Woman Against Woman) in 1990. Milhanovich came from a well-to-do family, her uncle a successful composer (she even covered one of his favorite songs as a favor to him), her father a polo pro, her mother a TV anchor for Telenoche, which was broadcast into millions of homes in Argentina and to Celeste Carballo. Her own fascinating story was never drawn up in any English-language sites, except to say she apparently played with Bob Dylan. She also composed for Argentine TV series Dale, Loly! in 1993, then Inn Trouble in 1997, a Christine Rey Joint meant to address the lesbian lifestyle in the United States, neither of which in this time of streaming and piracy can be found, even with subtitles. These two excellent, long-forgotten icons of Argentinian punk/pop as influences influnced this Chilean maestro. This three-minute jotting of feelings was co-produced by Isidro Acevedo, producer for Jukebox visitor, C. Tangana, Sticky M.A. and Ghouljaboy, nestling Mena in neatly arranged violins while girding it with heavy kick programming, flashes of timpani rolls, and long hi-hat hits. A chirping vocal fragment bubbles forth as Mena's warm soprano leans out of the center of the song. As for what co-writer Pablo Stipicic>> and Mena herself are saying, I do not know. All I can say is this: Love is complicated, but death is simple. [10]

Album Review of the Week: Jewel - This Way (2001)
Growing up, I was always a fan of the single Standing Still. It was not until I was an adult with Spotify that I finally gave the entire album a listen and I'm so glad I did! My favorite thing about this album is her vocal style. They are absolutely top-notch here; I love how it is usually clear and sweet-sounding, but at several points we get this really great rasp out of nowhere!
Jewel's goal with this album was to give it a raw sound as if it was being performed live. I think she did a really good job with that, it sounds simple, with vocals are forward and clear, but has just enough pizzazz that it doesn't sound boring at all.
The opening track, Standing Still, is a great grounding way to open the album. It opens very peacefully and kicks into a more uptempo, pleading, chorus.
Jesus Loves You is a really interesting track. A 'commentary on society' - saying that Jesus will only love you if you whiten your teeth or that having your picture in a magazine makes you special, "how special are you?". The sound is more on the rock side during the chorus and we get that delicious rasp. I love everything about this track - it is sassy, smart and sounds great.
Everybody Needs Someone Sometime continues in the same vein of rocky commentary, it also has a blues/country element to the vocals. I really enjoy the rock/country mix with the melody, makes for a fun track!
Our first ballad has arrived with Break Me and she sounds completely angelic!
Do You Want To Play? is another fun one. The chorus is SO early 2000s adult radio, in a really fun way! She has some sassy vocal delivery as well, dropping from singing to speaking.
Till We Run Out of Road is a midtempo almost-ballad with a country tinge and an "alt rock" lite breakdown. While this is certainly not one of the more spectacular tracks - it's nothing to frown upon!
Serve the Ego always gets stuck in my head, I love the almost creepy vocal delivery of the title lyrics. Overall, this has a much darker tone musically than what we have heard so far - giving some variety and texture to the project.
The title track, This Way, is a peaceful and breezy track that almost brings us back to the first song as far as its overall sound.
Cleveland gets back into the country sound, I really enjoy the song overall even though there isn't really anything to say about it that hasn't already been said about other similar songs within the project. I do like the line "I want to tell you everything, I want to make your toes curl".
I Won't Walk Away has a really neat percussion-into-guitar intro which leads into some spooky high-pitched piano notes and witchy vocals which are quite different than what we have been hearing.
Love Me, Just Leave Me Alone starts out with some really cool Old West guitar. This song is probably where the rasp comes out the most, I love how the chorus is assertive and just ends with curt "love me, just leave me alone". This is also probably has the most imaginative lyrics of the bunch as well.
The New Wild West continues in the same vein with that Old West tone, if you can't tell from the title. We get some of the social commentary from earlier as well. It even has some crazy synth in the middle! I guess that takes away from the stripped back tone that was intended, but I think it makes sense in the context of the song and was likely intentional because of that and later we get some really cool cello during the breakdown/bridge.
The next two tracks are "bonus" and recorded live. Grey Matter sounds more like 1995's Pieces of You with its soft vocals and even softer acoustic guitar. Sometimes It Be That Way harkens back to the mid-90s as well. I enjoy the lyric "I am sorry that Jesus died for my sins. I promise, it won't happen again".
I haven't heard the 1998 album Spirit, so I cannot totally speak to the artistic development between Pieces of You and This Way since there is an album in-between that I have not heard. However, this definitely does show a lot of growth and changing with the times. She seems to keep true to herself and her original sound while branching out and trying new things as well as keeping up with the times. Definitely an enjoyable album!

How "Cat People" Walked so "I Walked with a Zombie" Could Run
                                                                              Dante Calabrese
Before he became a horror master, Russian immigrant Val Lewton worked as a reporter, pulp author, and MGM PR writer. Selznick respected Lewton for his professionalism, and as a result of their cooperation, Selznick offered Lewton a producing position at RKO in 1942. Films by Lewton exceeded both financial and creative limitations. He framed horror in realistic scenarios, with the brutality implied rather than explicitly depicted and the monsters growing out of those situations' human problems. "Take a sweet love story, or a story of sexual tension, about people like the rest of us," Lewton said of his method. you cut in your fear by suggestion here and there, and you have something. "Cat People" (1942) meets all of these standards needed. The set pieces in Cat People are what everyone remembers. Irena terrorizes a pet store in an early scene, which was eventually lifted for The Birds and The Omen. Alice is being pursued by an apparition as she strolls across Central Park at night. Tourneur portrays her sharply spotlighted against a spooky sidewalk covered in whirling leaves. It's a terrifying dream that is broken up by a well-known jump scare when a bus startles Alice back to reality. Afterwards, Alice hears cat meows and watery shadows by a pool, where she discovers Irena mocking her. Before Alice discovers her robe torn to pieces, the revelation looks to be a consolation. Regarding the outstanding differences of "I Walked with a Zombie". Voodoo is shockingly used in Zombie, which grounds its terror in a racial-colonialist setting. For black people who are angry about white exploitation, voodoo is a cultural touchstone. Torneur creates believable rituals that serve as a terrifying focus. Also contributing to this is Sir Lancelot's sarcastic troubadour, who sings a song mocking the Hollands and foretells "shame and sorrow for the family," as well as the fetishized figurehead of St. Sebastian with arrow holes. Lewton uses superstition as a sign of defiance even though he believes it to be humanity's fatal fault. Remember that a voodoo-inspired slave uprising was the origin of Haiti's violent revolution against France. In addition to having a more subversive edge than Cat People, Zombie also has a stronger cast. Francis Dee is significantly more interesting than Tom Conway's Cat People role because he is logical and endearingly nice. Edith Barrett, James Maxwell as the haughty doctor, and Theresa Harris as the amiable maidservant all make strong supporting appearances. Later, in Lewton's The Ghost Ship (1943) and Curse of the Cat People (1944), Sir Lancelot, who composed his own calypso ballad, made an appearance. I Walked With a Zombie turned out to be another hit for Val Lewton and is yet another illustration of how this unusual director can transform drab materials into cinematic gold. These masterpieces brought an end to a decade of noteworthy movies, some excellent, some forgettable.

Alright! Getting more modern, George Strait is a good representation of the transition between classic and more modern country, and as a Texan I am legally obligated to love him, he really has one of my favorite voices and I saw him at the rodeo when I was 12 it was amazing
This is probably his most famous song and one of his first (the fiddle is so classic and beautiful) when he played this at my show that was literally the loudest crowd I have ever been in
This is more recent and I loooooooove this song i think its underrated
I also love Gary Allan, I think he's an awesome lyricst and does moody country really well
And Miranda Lambert! She also needs more recognition as a songwriter. She has a lot of really fun songs but that's not all she's capable of, these two show both sides of the coin (edit: the spotify lyrics to vice are still wrong despite me flagging it all the time. They cant understand her accent I guess. She's saying TOWN not tail smh)
I also have a Halloween country playlist specifically for songs about ghosts/murder ballads/songs with spooky vibes. If you're interested and don't have spotify lmk and i'll send the track listing
Same for this one I made for a long drive to the rodeo, it has a good mix of classic and more modern songs, and they're all pretty upbeat
Have fun and let me know what you think!!!
Hello! Im always looking to broaden my country music horizons, are there some songs that are classics (or that you personally love/think are classics) that you'd recommend?
Wow this is a very exciting ask to get! I'm not sure what your familiarity already is, but I tried to find songs that are pretty well known by people who listen widely to the genre but aren't well known outside of it. I'm gonna include spotify links for ease of listening, sorry if you don't have spotify but it will still hopefully function as a useful guide lol
First let me suggest some of my favorite oldies:
Also by Patsy Cline: Crazy, She's Got You
This is maybe my favorite spooky country song (bold claim)
You probably know Devil Went Down to Georgia, this one gets less appreciation but it's so fun and also spooky
This was my grandma's favorite song and I have a strong memory of it coming on the radio shortly after she passed and my dad had to pull the truck over because we were all crying lol. I like a lot of Merle Haggard including his and Willie Nelson's cover of Pancho and Lefty
^there's a meta joke in the song that it's the greatest country and western song of all time but like it is really good lol
There's a million versions of this song but this one is my favorite
This song is just really sweet
My favorite classic country ladies are Tanya Tucker and Loretta Lynn, so here's one from each of them:
Apparently I have hit the audio limit I will reblog with my more modern classics list

Some thoughts on A VHS Christmas Carol, from a big ACC fan
In this post I’ll be referring to three other musical adaptations: Scrooge! (1970), The Muppet Christmas Carol (”MCC”, 1993) and A Christmas Carol: The Musical (”ACCTM”, 2004).
Bah Humbug!
First of all, nice inclusion of the narrator as a main character in the show. Dickens’ narrator has a lot of the best lines in the original book and not many adaptations include him (MCC being the big exception, of course).
BH is a classic “Scrooge is a bad guy” song, similar to MCC’s “Scrooge” and some others that aren’t as good. As this is a sung-through musical, BH also takes on the whole scene of Scrooge in his offices, with Fred’s visit, the charity collectors and Bob asking for the day off. It pretty neatly covers all of those points, has some really nice use of rhyme and metre, and most importantly is an absolute banger.
3 Spirits
Just to get this out of the way straight off: Meredith looks amazing; I really like this version of Marley and their body language and the music give them a great spooky vibe.
Both MCC’s (”Marley and Marley”) and ACCTM’s (”Link By Link”) Marley songs are some of the most fun in their respective musicals, but VHSCC takes a different approach of going for a more toned-down, otherwordly version rather than a big bombastic one.
This song has some great lines, with special mention to some of Marley’s adapted from the original: “My spirit never grew in life, I only grew my wealth” and “These scary chains I wear are also around you”, plus two of Scrooge’s funniest lines from this scene, “You're just indigestion” and “If they all came together it could save some time” which are good examples of how this show manages to include quite a lot of the original in such a short space of time.
I’m the Ghost
SoCPast is notoriously difficult to faithfully adapt to the original novel in a live-action setting, with only Jim Carrey’s (animated) version even trying. Jaime gives her ghost an almost ethereal voice which helps make her seem more... well, ghostly despite having a relatively ordinary appearance. I’d say it compares favourably to Jane Krakowski’s rather lovely performance of “Lights of Long Ago” in ACCTM.
Scrooge’s two big emotional moments - remembering Fred is his sister’s son and comparing Fezziwig to himself as a boss - are nicely handled here:
GOCP: “Everyone's so happy, but why?” ES: “The boss did a lot for us.” GOCP: “This wasn't very much to buy.” ES: “Not just what he bought for us. He gave us much more than that. He made us have a blast. You don't understand it.” GOCP: “Something on your mind?” ES: “Bob Cratchit...”
So many people are familiar with this story now that VHSCC doesn’t need to cover things in too much detail and can afford to be efficient with its lines - and even if you don’t remember this scene, just that one like “Bob Cratchit” says it all, really.
Two last points: the Ghost’s final “I’m the Ghost” just after “I’m Belle” is very funny, and Fezziwig’s party is unusually short compared to most musicals which make a lot out of it having actual music within the narrative, but that just gives us more time for...
That Scrooge
Huge props to Clark for making a Scrooge/Belle song which isn’t skippable - there’s a reason MCC cut “When Love Is Gone” from the film. Doing it as a power ballad rather than a wistful sad song was a great choice which turns this scene from usually a drag on the pacing to a strong contender for the best song of the show. Oh, and Janaya is so good in the staged version.
Christmas Electricity
Unlike his predecessor, SoCPres is pretty easy to get right - he’s fun, jolly and loveable, and gets a fun song to match his personality. “It Feels Like Christmas” is one of MCC’s best-loved songs, “I Like Life” from Scrooge has a catchy chorus, and ACCTM’s “Abundance and Charity” is... also there.
“Christmas Electricity” is an absolute bop, it’s impossible to not dance to and this Ghost is great in the hands of Starkid’s most talented dancer. I don’t have much else to say which you don’t already know - this song is very popular among the fandom - except for two other things:
Dylan’s reactions to “I spread it to the wealthy” and “Maybe you’re a greedy dick” are really enjoyable
I like the condensing of the “guessing game” scene into just two lines.
Priceless
This song is so incredibly 80s i refuse to believe it was written last year. Like “That Scrooge” it’s an upgrade from the saccharine rubbish most adaptations give the Cratchits (who, in the songwriters’ defence, are famously pretty boring). Giving the roles to two of Starkid’s longest-running and most-loved cast members probably helped quite a bit as well.
"Priceless” somehow makes them feel more... real. Finally they have some personality, especially Peter “Grateful I don't have what Tim has got” Cratchit. Okay, I’m being unfair - MCC and the 1999 Patrick Stewart version mostly avoid this by casting Kermit/Miss Piggy and Richard E. Grant respectively.
The Final Ghost
Even Bill Murray’s Scrooged, with its New York cab driver and unstable fairy as the first two spirits, didn’t veer from the classic Grim Reaper look for its final visitation. VHSCC does away with that old look and makes SocYtC a normal-looking human... except that they only sing in wordless vowels, which is somehow creepier. Swapping the “oo”s with “Ebenezer Scroooooge” at the gravestone reveal is a really nice effect which just hammers home the shock he’s feeling. Also, special mention to Joey and Lauren’s shaky voices in the Cratchits’ bit of this song.
On a lighter note, Scrooge’s reaction of “Okay spirit, funny joke, but that's not what I meant” to SoCYtC taking “Can anyone express any emotion from this death?” is pretty funny. It’s something which isn’t in the original novel but is very in-character for Dickens’ version of Scrooge.
Christmas Day
In the tradition of Holy Musical B@man, Firebringer and TGWDLM, the finale includes elements from multiple songs earlier in the show, like “Christmas Electricity” and “Priceless”. Of course we have to include the “Scrooge was better than his word” bit, and this version includes the bit about Scrooge ignoring people who laugh at him which doesn’t usually turn up, so clearly Clark has been paying attention to the source material.
We end with the final section of “Bah Humbug”, reinterpreted in a positive light to give the musical a big, heartwarming finish and a great tone to send everyone home on.
Conclusions
All in all, this is not only a good musical, it’s also a good adaption of ACC which manages to incorporate most of the key elements (both plot and character-wise) of the original while adapting well to its unusual setting. Credit to Clark and everyone else involved in making it, well done guys!

I'm starting to appreciate the completely UNHINGED nature of TX. My coworker walked into work today as ask "you like pirates and skull right?" And I'm like yeah. So he says come out to my truck I found two pirate swords someone throw away after Halloween. And I'm like oh... mmm ok? Legit they're two metal fencing swords with skulls on the hilt and guards?!

Rules: tag nine (9) people you want to get to know better

Favorite time of the year: fall, I get to wear layers again and it not freezing cold yet, and all the fun spooky stuff starts to show up. Leaves change color. All together it's a good time.
Comfort food: not sure what it called by a coworker made this super delicious cookie brownie dessert- it was a chocolate chip cookie on the down and brownie on the top with oreos in the middle. I need to get her to give me the recipe. That or a good cup of New England claw chowder, not the can stuff but the kind in the bag you have to boil in hot water. It's the best.
Do I collect anything?: yes, I collect Stieff, a brand of stuff animals that originated in Germany. Most of them I've gotten as gifts from my grandmother, who was born and grew up in Germany. The first Stieff I got is a fox named Xorry. The weirdest is a snowman from what I assume is a German kid show called Tabaluga, and this snowman I assume is the villain as he's got long black gloves and evil yellow eyes above the brim of his top hat. But I love him very much as my Oma saw it and thought, "oh he is freaky and bizarre little guy, Eri will absolutely love him.
Favorite drink: iced coffee with mocha flavored creamer
Favorite song: The Bounty Hunter by Mike Cross, I remember hearing this song when I was either six or seven on one of my dad's CD as he was driving me to school or something. And while it was horribly morbid for a kid to love, I still love it to this day. It just a nice little engaging ballad of an outlaw vs a bounty hunter and after probably a thousand listen after so many years it still intrigues me.
Favorite current song: Shadow of Mine by Alec Benjamin. I actually like a lot of his songs, but this is the most recent of his I found. I also like, Boy in the Bubble, Outrunning Karma, and Mother's Eyes to name a few others of his.
Favorite fic book: I don't read fic all that much. Sorry :( so I'll do my favorite book. Which is A Series of Unfortunate Events. It's been one of my favorite series since I was a kid. And as an adult it appreciate all the literature references the author uses for the building of the world, from places like Prufrock Prep beginning a reference to the poem "The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock" to the character Esmé Squalor as nod to the short story, "To Esmé - with Love and Squalor." The series has been a huge inspiration to me and my own writing projects as well.

Miscellaneous thoughts on the 3.1 update Archon quest (IM ONLY UP TO MEETING UNCLE ANPU OK)
Spoilers to follow !!!
I love how many animated segments there were!!!! It never disappoints. Devs never miss.
Dottore truly is scary. Hes also intelligent and skilled. If he wasn't so terrifying and abusive I'd definitely find him attractive. Knowing too what he did to Collei and how much lasting trauma she has from his actions... yeah, no thanks. He does have lots of charisma, but I'd like to kick his ass. I wonder what his vision and delusions are!
On another note, again, hes fucking terrifying. His lack of boundaries and his idea to catch the Traveler in a well- planned trap. I hope Setaria is ok!!
Hypasia's whole situation... again, from Dottore and Scaramouche, but I have to admire the ingenuity and manipulation at how well done it is. Hypasia's total belief and how she is reacting- yeah, if I was connected to a god, I'd be pissed too if no one else seemed to care or was suddenly cautious of me! And her excitement to show the Traveler and then Scaramouche's whole backstory and the show of his devolution to this new state- Is he back as a Harbinger? Is Dottore bending the rules to help him, if they're even working together?
The animation of the Balladeer's backstory too was beautiful. He continued to try to make friends and work through his creation, but I think by the child, he hadn't even done anything wrong. Unless he had died? I couldn't tell what sin the third friend had committed, but it would track for Scaramouche to misread a situation unfortunately and take things farther than necessary. I can't fault him as he was truly hurt and misled by the first to who had hurt him, but again, I really couldn't see what the third person did.
His monologue tho was so spooky and I was like 😧😲 the entire time lol. I also love the 2D animation as much as I love the 3D.
And then the third animation clip, some more Scaramouche as Nahida swaps her consciousness with the traveler. Both parts of this are beautiful and the second part is haunting. Honestly great timing for spooky month to have Scaramouche on the fringes of the Traveler's sight, setting up for a battle that hopefully Scaramouche survives (even if solely for all those Scaramouche savers... oof). I'm quite interested how his story is gonna turn out because I was hoping for him to turn out a little like Childe in how he is flexible on his morals and maybe potentially set up to help the Traveler. We'll just have to wait and see.
The final animation bit <3333 enemies/rivals to lovers <333333 the ship potential is off the goddam charts I'll tell you what. Its gorgeous to watch and thrilling to see the boys have at it and sass each other. Cyno's whole intro scene. I wanna kiss him. I want him to kiss Alhaitham. I want to kiss Alhaitham. I want us all to kiss each other. And then Dehya rocks up and Candace tells everyone to shut up and get along. *aggressively passionate chef's kiss* peak.
The rest of the story is really good and interesting too, possessing people and convincing Setaria that she has abandoned King Desheret and that she needs to step up.
Really enjoying this so far!

Ceremonials time, and this one seems to be the favourite of most people, especially American fans. I rarely listen to this in one go, it's exhausting but I needed to see how it flowed. A huge album, darker in tone compared to lungs. Florence wanted to explore that huge sound she'd started in lungs with drumming song and cosmic love create a cohesive album. A science concept album was quickly scrapped, as was a drake collaboration. Originally titled violence, it was renamed ceremonials after an art exhibit flo saw.
Only if for a night is a strong opener that sets the darker tone for this album. Mix of supernatural metaphor and personal issues. It's a dream like song which is apt as it's based on a dream. Very different vibe to dog days. The church bell tune at the beginning is a lovely touch and goes well with this album heavy with religious imagery. It's heavy drums and echoey piano make it sound huge and that will be the recurring sound here. 8/10.
Shake it out, another hangover song. The most commercial song with a catchy hook and upbeat mood. More church references with the organ opening and the beat is like a European marching band. The video for this is one my favourites and perfectly captures the 1920s art deco theme the album was going for. This is the dog days of ceremonials and there's a great remix too. During this era I found the live performances a bit disappointing as she let the choir do the heavy lifting and kept doing a weird goat warblee at times but in recent years it's been improved. 9/10
What the water gave me. Here come the water and literary references. Again, it's huge and I was so excited when this came out. There's a lot going on here and the ending is euphoric and overwhelming. The live version has a cool electronic but added to it as well. 8/10.
Never let me go is a song I know loads of people love, but I'm not a fan of the slower ballads. Music wise this song isn't interesting, a bit of piano and some echoing drums the real focus here is the vocals. She veers between delicate and strong here, and the lyrics are some of her best. The big finish is my favourite part but I still don't love it as much as most people. The video was so weird too, an ice rink and weird black goo and I still don't get it. 7/10
Breaking down feels like it was put in for a breather. Most low key track here, but only by ceremonials standards. A bit spooky. It makes me think of London at night but it got a shitty Lana del Rey type video. Not really a proper single or anything but still. It's fine, the acoustic is better. Nothing special here. 6/10
No light is one of my favourites here. I think it was one of the first songs written for this album and I've heard it described as the bridge between lungs and ceremonials and it sounds like it. Lyrics here are hard hitting for me personally 'tell you what you want me to say' especially. Lots of drums, harp and heartbreak lungs style. And then the organ like synths for ceremonials. A really great track, unfortunately marred by that ill advised video. 10/10
Lover to lover is a song used to dislike. Coming back to it now it's alright. But it sounds like a generic soul song. It feels like a cover but I know it isn't. Lyrics aren't very interesting either and it's just a painfully average song. And vocal wise it's not great either. It's video was very hbhbhb I thought. 5/10
Seven devils is probably a bigger parody of Florence than anything on dance fever. So melodramatic and loud with loads of religious imagery yet again. It's also goes on for about 2 minutes too long and a lot of it is unintelligible. I can still enjoy for what it is though. I actually wrote a story for school based on this, where a nazi set a barn on fire to smoke out partisans. I got an A, so thanks Flo. Still a bit below par for her though, despite the Halloween release so 5/10.
Heartlines now and she's straight into the augury. This song struck me as something a person who was inspired by Florence would make, it reminds me a lot of castles by Freya riding. It's a poor man's dog days and very forgettable. The chorus is boring and it goes on too long. It's not bad, but not interesting. It feels empty despite the heavy drums. The metaphors and water references are here but it's just mediocre at best. A filler track, feels like someone realised the album was a bit heavy and from and they needed something inspiring. It's just kind of there 4/10
I personally think spectrum is a leftover from her science album idea that was scrapped and it's great. This is what a Florence dance song sounds like. Fast paced, driving drums and the harp getting some time to shine. I love the video for this song and I quite like the Calvin remix as well. It's basically everything heartlines tries to be but it's just better. It's a more claustrophobic song with so many instruments but it works. I admit I was disappointed with it live, again she skips parts or leaves it to the choir but she did say it's a hard song to sing. 9/10
I thought I was going finally come round to all this and heaven too for a moment. It's a slower, sweeter sing song that's fairly meta, a love letter to language. Fairly light and airy song. But then it got to the last minute and I remembered why I don't like this song. That final minute is a big jumbled mess of noise and it sounds awful on an otherwise perfectly produced album. 3/10.
Leave my body is something I wasn't impressed with at first. It's no blinding. But I gave it another go after my sister found it almost too scary to listen too. It is a bit spooky I suppose, and the lyrics about history pulling you down is neat. The ending is nice and mysterious. I've warmed a bit, but it's still just an ok song for me. Also by this point I've had so many big echoing soul songs that I'm tired now. Hard to even find a decent live recording 6/10.
Strangeness and charm is a song I've had the privilege to see live. Part of the science album concept. I remember being shocked seeing it relegated to the deluxe version but it makes sense. Quite similar to spectrum, harp, drums, fast pace and long. I can see why she felt she had to choose and I think spectrum was the better choice. I still kind of have a soft spot for it, even if this feels like a demo 5/10
Bedroom hymns
Tumblr media
I love this. One of the first songs performed from this album and then it was just a deluxe track. Lmao. Guess the standard album needed to be family friendly 😂 8/10
Remain nameless is a controversial song. One of the few songs I see fans activity dislike. And those people are tasteless because this song is great 😌. Reminds me of fever ray. It's a very sinister, spooky song. Like making a deal with a demon who agrees to hold back unless you want them to act. A foreboding electronic track that is still unique in her discography, and if she ever decides to explore this area in future she has my full support. 9/10.
Landscape is odd. It's a demo but feels like a finished track. Sounds like it belongs on lungs imo, metaphors about the weather. And it's unusual as it's sing partly in third person. The usual tribal drums. I like it, and wonder why she never finished it. Guess it doesn't fit on the album. 7/10.
Breath of life. This is exactly how I imagined a song made by Florence given an enormous budget would sound. Massive and dramatic. Some say it strayed into self parody but if she never got to do a song like this you'd be disappointed, admit it. Massive drums, full orchestra, big choirs, it's Florence turned up to the max. Shame it was for a shite film. She does love doing cool tracks for shite movies. I remember hearing this and wishing she'd use brass and male choirs in future. One wish was granted. 8/10.
Sweet nothing. Saw a lot of snobby reactions to this being announced at first. But it's great, loads of fun and a perfect dance track. Calvin usually delivers and iirc he was desperate to work with Flo, and she only agreed in exchange for a remix. Food Idea because she got 2 number one hits. The acoustic live version on Florence's tour isn't amazing,it's fine, but this is meant to be a dance track .Calvin's tour version is a blast. 8/10
Over the love is from a film that slots perfectly into ceremonials art deco, 1920s theme. And seeing as Florence is currently doing a great Gatsby musical, she love it too. Baz luhrman also interviewed Florence a year before. But it's a ballad and quite sharp on my ears. And I only really enjoy the last 30 seconds about the green light and I wish this part was longer. 5/10
I really do love this era. Florence found ' her' sound and cemented it. It is far more cohesive and that was her intention. It's a big, big album and I remember being worried that she'd struggle to perform it live. And she did, between this and lungs she had little room to rest during gigs and the choir she had took up some of the slack. It's very heavy on religious and mythological imagery and I love that. She said she wanted a 'catherdral in the sky' sound and she achieved it with church bell intros, echoing drums and piano, organ music and constant references to god, devils and angels. But I admire, it's difficult to listen to as a full album, and I mostly return to select songs. There's also some filler tracks here that drag on a bit.

hiii! since i've been listening to press it for like three days straight (i just really love it. need to go a lil nuts over it every now and then).. did you already do it for the album ranking thing? sorry if you did and i missed it
hello! extremely late response! this is my fave taem album! this ranking is v arbitrary and changes every day i love every single song for different reasons. soldier is the only one i skip but even that i love for the performance and the lyrics. extremely strong extremely well rounded first full album it's really perfect in every way. u can tell he worked rly rly hard on it and his lyrics being on soldier and him having solo ballads shows a lot about him staking a place in kmusic as a soloist after his explosive debut with danger/ace as an all rounder singer. the album cohesion is perfect each song is distinct and memorable he performs them on stage with unbelievable skill it's really a success in every way. pacing perfect putting some ballads both in the first half and at the end with smooth transitions back into dance pop.
Tumblr media
1. until today - my fave taemin bside it's a travesty he's never performed it live it's at the top of my ranking until he sings it on a stage. i've made a couple posts explaining why this song is so gay. also it's classic sad rnb it's perfect.
2. drip drop - the choreo for this exploded my brain when i first watched it the video was SO fresh and gorgeous the production is kind of insane
3. press your number - the bruno mars classic! if u haven't pls read the original lyrics for this and also listen to the demo. kpop lyricists choose words for how they could be misheard to add another layer of meaning like all the time and barae barae barae instead of body body body is one of my fave instances of that. also the miserable rich boy aesthetic and him switching places with the white girl? he said he found his direction with press it but not where he was going until ngda and u can rly see that
4. mystery lover - THE BEGINNING OF IT ALL!!!! ADRIAN MCKINNON'S FIRST TAEMIN/SHINEE TRACK I BELIEVE!!!!!!! adrian mckinnon rly cemented taemin's trademark of spooky horny rnb videogame music in his interview with reacttothek he said he had been hoping taemin would pick this song and he did. black rose is def the sequel to this and impressionable the sequel to that.
5. hypnosis - this switches places with until today regularly it's a gorgeous perfect ballad like i can imagine the amount of respect taem got as a vocalist for releasing this it's the perfect winter ballad for sad contemplating at the bus stop i listened to it five thousand times in korea.
6. already - this song goes to #1 pretty often too until today hypnosis and already are in the same category for me. the jonghyun classic!!!!!!! this is a perfect rnb ballad it's classic it's a perfect vocal range to challenge taem's voice at the time the lyrics are so heartwrenching. the story behind jjong giving this to taem along with cocktail but taem rejecting cocktail is one of my fave jongtae moments.
7. guess who - the performances of this......... insaaaaaaane.... this song goes PERFECTLY with mystery lover and sexuality and gives consistency to the whole album. i love a michael jackson thriller inspired concept. i love his japanese stadium performance of this especially i think it was bukodan? the art the creativity the misconceptions of us of it all!!!! so perfect at showing how taem learns from shinee and makes his own distinct extension of the same feeling and concept and style.
8. sexuality - this ends up at #3 most days. if u haven't pls listen to the original song and pay attention to the lyrics it's insane. it's rly amazing how the song lyrics r made so much tamer in korean but the way he sings it has the same energy as the original. the choreo for this.... wow....
9. one by one - this also goes to #3 a lot of days. the rnb.... the DAGAWAA DAGAWAAA like it's so good it's my exact fave genre.
10. soldier - i believe this is the first song taem has written himself? it was a skip cuz i hate the military and it's kind of a western uplifting pop sound i'm not a fan of but his performances of this is incredible and the lyrics r so central to tracking the kind of emotional journey his career goes on. also it's rly gay.

AND THE OOH’S AT THE END HIT DIFFERENT OMGGGG AND SHE SOUNDS SO BROKEN AND SOFT AT THE END APOBIHJ[OADSIJB
everybody loves somebody - dean martin (slowed n reverb)
by starclouds
pretty sure i got this song from General Angsty (if i didn’t, apologizes), but this slowed down verison HITS THE SPOT. i love his voice in this slowed way, it is so interesting. also, it’s reverb? like? yes, please. the thumbnail is actually a GIF that is a fountain, it’s pretty cool, 7/10, also this makes me wanna sway with like Echo or something (actually now that i think of it, i’m pretty sure i got this from General Angsty’s dancing post with the boys, which made me so SoFt omg :)) overall, recommend listen to this when you wanna sway with your lover in like a dance club, but your nestled into their neck and your pulled so close and it’s warm in their embrace :) the instruments also are really nice in this verison.
Clair De Lune Ethereal Remix
by A.Krishna
IF ALL MUSIC SUDDENLY BECAME ETHEREAL ON YOUTUBE, I WOULD MOST LIKELY CRY. so i love ethereal remixes, there’s just something so… whimsical about ethereal remixes. this song is so pretty and beautiful on ethereal omgggGGGg. the thumbnail is beautiful 10000000/10. I just- this sounds like a song you would use as like a look back through your entire life, like every memory and moment just appearing as this song plays WOW. and when the piano climax’s in the midDLE OMGGGG it is INSANE, LIKE THE EMOTIONS THAT GO THROUGH MY BRAIN AOBIASDNB and then it gets super soft and quiet aaaahhhh CAN YOU TELL I LIKE ETHEREAL?? IDK IF YOU CAN 😂 anyways, overall recommend this song when your just watching the rain fall and reminiscing about good times in your life :)
heather - conan gray ( slowed + reverb)
by Vibey
okay definitely this song is sadder slowed, like THE FEELS OMGG but it’s amazing slowed, like the original is awesome, AND THEN THIS???!! so the thumbnail is a really pretty GIF of this VHS tape just playing, and it’s purple so 10/10. this definitely brings the raspy part of his voice, and i really like it (or that’s just the reverb lol 😂) only thing i do not like about this slowed version is it cuts off the end of the song at the end of the video, and I don’t know why, but it’s still really good, so i don’t mind too much :). it’s very pretty and sad all at the same time. overall, recommend listening to this song when your just chilling, staring up at the ceiling and your like “let’s be a puddle of sad for a sec”
Chiquitita(slowed+reverbed)💜
by Brown Aesthetic Syndrome

OH AND THE CHORUS ITS DIFFERENT OMGGGGG AOPBINAS[FDPOIBJOFIBOAFINBPOJ IT’S SO INSANE OMGGG AOIBAPDOFSKGN!! ANYWAYS RECOMMEND THIS SONG WHEN YOU ARE LIKE “I NEED ABBA VIBES, BUT SLOWED” ALBKNDSPFOBIN
billie eilish - my future - slowed dreamy reverb
by ayabe
so this song is incredible, like it slowed really hits different. billie’s voice has always been so interesting to me because sometimes she sings like very whisper like, and other times she is full on belting like going insane, and i really like that she uses her voice in multiple different ways during her songs. billie is the number one artist i go to when i really wanna be in the feels, and this verison of my future is so amazing. the beat is so interesting, and the thumbnail is really cool 9/10, also i don’t know what the language is nor, do i know what it says, so if you do, let me know lol 😂 but the picture is cool. this song is one i listen to all the time because it’s just- yes. overall recommend this song when your chilling in bed, just in the dark, with the window open on a summer night :)
friends on the other side - s l o w e d
by angelicsounds
THIS IS SO EPIC SLOWED OMGGGGG I CAN’T NOT EVEN EXPLAIN AOBPINADOPBNF I REALLY FEEL LIKE A SPOOKY DUDE WHO KNOWS HOW TO DO SOME SPOOKY STUFF OMGGG i love the original song, and i also really like the cover by annapantsu, definitely recommend her verison too! this has got to be the coolest disney villain song slowed down, hands down. the thumbnail is a GIF of this anime character’s eyes doing weird looking highlight stuff lol idk what to call it, 8/10. overall, recommend when you wanna listen to a song that makes you feel like the main villain in a story :) AND THE ENDING HITS DIFFERENT OMGGGGGGGG
le valse de l’amour - patrick doyle (slowed down)
by mari
okay, so we all know that I love Cinderella. and this song is so incredible, i can’t- okay, but just imagine… the bad batch, undercover at a senate ball, you, trying to make sure the senators are safe. the boys are in their separate locations, you know, watching, making sure everyone is good. some random dude from out of nowhere tries to make you dance with him. you are obviously like “um, what the heck, please no sir.” and suddenly…
“may i have this dance?”
it’s Hunter (or crosshair, but i’ve written a fic about Hunter dancing with the reader, so i feel like he would be a good dancer).
anyways, he whisks you away from random dude, and your like “Hunter there’s no music” because the orchestra just finished their previous song, and he’s like
“just wait.”
bam, this song comes on.
and suddenly, Hunter’s waltzing with you and you didn’t even know he could waltz. and it’s exactly like the scene from Cinderella 2015. So you two are doing your own thing in the middle of the ballroom, and everyone starts moving out of the way because woah these people are really good at dancing
and you are just shocked because HOW??
and he just leads you through the whole thing. he spins you around, and if your wearing a dress and it’s got some tulle on it, it swishes around when he spins you and oh my god the butterflies and smile he gets when you giggle because you love the way it swirls around you. and then people start backing up more, because at this rate, you guys are taking up the whole dance floor.
and you just keep going, and he starts pick you up and spinning you around when the harp comes on. and he grabs you by the waist and starts swinging you around just like Kit & Ella do in the movie. and then the end of the song comes, and he dips you, brings you back up, and that’s it.
and when it’s all said and done, you just look at him, and well, he obviously looks extremely handsome, his suit is all pressed, and his hair is done back in a bun, but he’s got a few wisps coming out from your whole little dancing experience, and all you can say is:
“I-”
“shhh, mesh’la. later. i’ll tell you later.”
anyways, thumbnail is a solid 11/10, and recommend if you wanna daydream about dancing at a senator ball with Hunter.
no i am not planning on writing a fic about this, what you you implying? okay, yes i am, i am. no shame 😂
sleeping beauty - once upon a dream (slowed + reverb)
by Paige Coddington
sleeping beauty is one of my favorite disney princesses besides rapunzel & cinderella, so i love this. The GIF is so pretty, 10/10. Aurora’s voice is pretty, and her vibrato is so much more prominent in this verison, and i am obsessed. this is so pretty, I- speechless, actually. and then philip comes in and it’s just ✨ also, i always like aurora in the pink dress when i was younger, but now i kind of like the blue dress more. they should have just given her a purple dress i guess lol 😂 overall, really pretty, recommend when you are in the mood for some more nostalgic disney vibes :)
D a n c i n g Q u e e n 女王
by v a p o r w a v e
okay so i originally found this on an edit of “the snap from avengers infinity war, but dancing queen” -
and when i tell you that the snap got even sadder, I-
anyways, i also really like vaporwave music, very interesting and very cool. i love the video because i’m pretty sure it’s the original music video, but it looks like your looking through a kaleidoscope, so 100000000/10. this song is so good vaporwave, like, just yes. like when i say this hits different, like for real, this hits different. ABBA is always good, but this by far has to be my favorite thing of ABBA music i have ever found. It’s like…
it’s just incredible.
like i said with the ethereal remix of clair de lune, this is like a song that you put on your life, and just look at all the memories and moments that have happened to you.
overall, recommend when you wanna just sit and think for awhile, or maybe make the snap from avengers infinity war sadder
———
and that’s it! i decided that i would just stick to 10, the other ones i have done are about 12, and i just thought it was a good number lol 😂 i hope you guys enjoy these as much as I do, and check out my pinned post to see them all linked on one post :)
lots of spells (& music listening),
moony

Mad Monster Party? (1967)
You may not be aware of who Rankin/Bass are, but if you have seen a Christmas television special in the last half-century, chances are you have seen one of their works. In an increasingly fragmented popular culture, those Christmas specials remain touchstones. Among those specials from animation director-producers Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass are Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964), Frosty the Snowman (1969), Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town (1970), The Year Without a Santa Claus (1974). Primarily known for their stop-motion animation television specials, Rankin/Bass also made theatrical films at the height of their popularity. Their third feature film, despite not being released in mind for Halloween, extended the studio’s stop-motion wizardry for the first time to all things spine-tingling and spooky.
Distributed by Embassy Pictures, Mad Monster Party? is a bizarre comedy that will delight the youngest set (frankly, I have never encountered a Rankin/Bass production that wasn’t bizarre), perhaps introducing some of them to the most famous monsters in film and literature. For Rankin/Bass’ older fans (or those not acquainted with their work), this film is one of their most ambitious projects; but it is underseen, rarely televised or programmed by independent movie theaters.
Residing in a castle on the Isle of Evil is Baron Boris von Frankenstein (voiced by Boris Karloff in his final Frankenstein-related work), who also cohabits the castle with his Monster (Alan Swift, who voices all other non-female characters in the film), the Monster’s more intelligent mate (Phyllis Diller), assistant Francesca (Gale Garnett; whose character might be the most buxom Rankin/Bass character ever), and the head zombie butler Yetch (who looks and, thanks to Swift, sounds like Peter Lorre). Baron Frankenstein has just successfully concocted a formula that can destroy any matter and, as the head of the Worldwide Organization of Monsters, wishes to announce his discovery and his retirement from the organization. A who’s who of monsters receive summons: Count Dracula, the Mummy, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Werewolf, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, and “The Creature” (the Creature from the Black Lagoon). Francesca notices there is one name on the list who is not a member of the organization – a pharmacist named Felix Flanken (Swift impersonating James Stewart). There has been no mistake, assures the Baron, because Felix is his intended successor. Francesca, who wanted the Baron’s position, is upset and plots to disrupt the succession. But when Felix arrives late to the mad monster party, Francesca is surprised to find that the heir apparent is inept, asthmatic, astigmatic.
Due to the filmmakers not wishing to pay royalties, some of the monsters that appear are called alternate names, even though each one is recognizable. Occasionally, Frankenstein’s monster is referred to as “Fang” (a reference to Phyllis Diller’s comedy acts, as she referred to her husband by this name during those acts); the Bride of Frankenstein becomes “The Monster’s Mate”; the Creature from the Black Lagoon is simply the “Creature”; a well-known monster that will go unnamed here due to spoilers is “It”; et cetera.
The screenplay by Len Korobkin and Harvey Kurtzman (a writer for and the founding editor of Mad magazine) contains plenty of comedic padding. Thus, Mad Monster Party? feels like an hourlong Rankin/Bass special that cannot justify its additional half-hour. Not that I minded too much in this case, despite the redundant character introductions and overlong slapstick scenes. Felix’s cluelessness onboard the ship ferrying the Baron’s guests to the Isle of Evil is situational hilarity. The variety of characters attending Baron Frankenstein’s gathering provides plenty of opportunities for them to interact with each other as a collection of dysfunctional colleagues. Their factionalism and widespread distrust between each other result in scheming and dry one-liners (including double entendres!) that complement the signature surreal humor of Rankin/Bass productions.
In a decade where monsters were having a resurgence in American popular culture (capped off by Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!), the relationships between the monsters in Mad Monster Party? feel influenced by earlier television series like The Addams Family (1964-1966) and The Munsters (1964-1966). Other influences and references will pass over the heads of most under a certain age; behaviors such as slapping a hysterical woman to make her come to her senses is deeply rooted in outdated ‘60s behavioral norms. Mad Monster Party? is funnier if one understands that there are stand-ins for certain actors: Baron Frankenstein resembles and is voiced by Karloff, Felix sounds like and acts like a Jimmy Stewart character from every romantic comedy he starred in, Yetch is obviously Peter Lorre, and the Monster’s Mate looks like and acts like Phyllis Diller. The band that plays at Baron Frankenstein’s dinner party seems to be a parody of the Rolling Stones. Though these decisions may need explaining to younger viewers and draw out the film’s runtime, the film’s comedy is just as weird as anything Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer offers. This is especially true in the final third of the film, defined by an out-of-left-field romance and an uninvited guest that wreaks havoc. These scenes give Rudolph’s “elf practice”, the reindeer’s interactions with each other, the Woodsman, and the Island of Misfit Toys a run for their money.
For almost all of Rankin/Bass’ television and film productions, the animation was entirely outsourced overseas. Such was the case for Mad Monster Party?. Using Rankin/Bass’ “Animagic” process, the film’s animation was spearheaded in Tokyo by Tadahito Mochinaga (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, 1965’s The Daydreamer) of MOM Productions. In tandem with the character designs sketched by Jack Davis (an original artist for Mad magazine), the Japanese animators under Mochinaga meticulously moved the six-to-eight-inch puppets frame-by-frame – building open the advances pioneered by George Pal’s Puppetoons series of short films (1934-1947). The dolls’ realistic motions (or at least as realistic as such motion can be) were accomplished by using live actors standing nearby as reference. Mouth movements during dialogue was expressed using fine Japanese paper pasted for one frame and removed for the next. Each doll cost about $5,000 (just over $40,000 in 2020’s USD) to make and the animation itself was time-consuming.The production design for Mad Monster Party? represents some of the art direction in any stop-motion Rankin/Bass piece – especially the moody, cobweb-filled interior of the Baron’s castle.
youtube
Interspersed across Mad Monster Party? are several songs composed by Maury Laws (1964’s Return to Oz, The Year Without a Santa Claus) and lyrics by Jules Bass. Like almost all songs from Rankin/Bass pieces, the songs are not well-integrated into the story, but it is nevertheless difficult to imagine skipping any of them. The songs – though a vast majority are novelty songs – provide a bolt of energy where dialogue may have been trite. “Do the Mummy” by Little Tibia and the Fibias (reportedly real-life band Dyke and the Blazers) has absolutely zero lyrical interest along with its funk rock keyboard melody – but hey, we get the puppets to dance! “One Step Ahead” is just as repetitive, but arrives with the added benefit of Karloff speak-singing his parts (and who doesn’t want more Boris Karloff?). Phyllis Diller gets a solo number as the Monster’s Mate in “You’re Different” – a number to chastise Frankenstein’s Monster for his “roving eye[s]”.
But there are two songs by Laws and Bass in a different league than the rest. The first is the title song, “Mad Monster Party”, sung by jazz singer Ethel Ennis. On my first viewing of Mad Monster Party?, I never expected an opening tune as badass as this – replete with blaring brass, stabs of percussion, and string flourishes. It sounds like it was composed by John Barry for a James Bond movie; it makes a lyric like, “Did you sell your soul to Mephistopheles?” not feel awkward. “Mad Monster Party” is a snarling, unorthodox accompaniment to the monsters’ initial introductions over the opening credits – and the most pleasant surprise of the film. Almost as brilliant is a song for Francesca, with Gale Garnett singing the ballad “Never Was a Love Like Mine”. If only the context for that song (which I will not reveal to those who haven’t seen the film) was not so peculiar.
Upon viewing the final cut of Mad Monster Party?, executive producer and Embassy Pictures founder Joseph E. Levine expressed his disappointment in the picture and decided to limit the film’s theatrical release. The half-aborted theatrical release destined Mad Monster Party? to Rankin/Bass obscurity, even though it would be carried by select American television stations as a holiday special. The studio would remain focused on Christmas material, but would infrequently dabble in non-Yuletide projects. In 1972, Rankin/Bass directed a cel-animated television movie entitled Mad Mad Mad Monsters. The film is a “prequel of sorts” and includes many of the characters from Mad Monster Party?. To this day, Mad Monster Party? exists in the shadow of the better-known Christmas television specials. It also does not help that, since Rankin/Bass’ ultimate dissolution in 2001, the studio’s theatrical feature films have been separated from the rest of the Rankin/Bass library (pre-1974 specials are owned by Universal; specials from 1974 and after are owned by Warner Bros.). At the time of this review’s publication, Lionsgate holds the rights to Mad Monster Party?.
For a time, Rankin/Bass’ stop-motion animation films and television specials were popular in North America – their projects standing out from an animation industry beholden to cel animation perfected by Disney. Mad Monster Party? is Rankin/Bass craftsmanship (and lunacy) at a feature length, and necessary viewing for students of stop-motion animation. The film plays on the horror archetypes that audiences are now accustomed to, amid some of the most beautifully-designed sets in the studio’s history. It is an ideal Halloween viewing experience, but unfortunately it does not seem it has ever reached the audience that it deserves.

Recommend some good folk metal music please
:D i never thought i’d see the day when someone actually wants to know more about the music i listen to *cracks knuckles* my time has come
I apologize in advance for this novel. Feel free to skip to the recommended tracks lol.
Most folk metal comes out of northern Europe (Finland, heavily) though you can find it all over the world (Hu Band comes to mind but I mean, it’s on every continent). I am one of those people with like, a small handful of favorite bands that I listen to mercilessly so I am sure that I am only representing a miniscule percentage of what’s available out there. What’s great is that folk metal is much more versatile than many other genres in its sound; the essence of folk metal is simply to 1) utilize traditional (or rather, in the sense of a metal band, non-traditional) instruments such as violin, accordion, brass ensemble, bagpipes, what have you, and 2) have lyrical themes which revolve around regional folklore, mythology, cultural heritage, or place (what I particularly like is a frequent reverence and respect for nature). Other genres of metal (death, black) have the second element but not the first, and tend to incorporate darker overall tones and consistently harsher or lo-fi vocal styles and sounds. Folk metal can be a gateway genre into metal and can often be quite hopepunk (if you will). Because of these criteria, the actual sound of folk metal can range from sea shanties to ‘spooky walk in the midnight woods’ to scathing social commentary to SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SH
Basically you can find a range of styles within the genre that fit what you’re looking for, from those that have an orchestral, ballad feel, to things that border on death metal but have a hurdy-gurdy in there. There’s also a much higher percentage of female-led folk metal bands than other metal genres.
I’ll go through my top picks.
Turisas. These motherfuckers. My boys.
Tumblr media
Turisas is based in Finland, but sing primarily in English (with occasional Finnish, a smidge of Greek and Swedish too). Four albums out to date, fifth in progress. Sound is absolutely fucking bonkers god tier shit, if I may say so myself. Every single song sounds like you’ve been transported into an Iliad metal musical. Heavy use of a full orchestra and choir, along with sick violin and accordion solos. Their lyrical themes focus heavily on ancient Greco-Roman and Viking military history - but before you raise any red flags, rest assured they’re liberal as fuck and trust me the tea is scalding when Mathias feels like making a Point about Then and Now. No seriously, I don’t know how to express the beauty and depth of his songwriting - Mathias Nygård is an incredibly talented composer, musician, and songwriter (nay, POET), and an extremely intelligent and down to earth guy. There are plenty of bands that are happy to write Viking songs about pillaging and glorious death in battle and all that (Alestorm comes to mind), those are a dime a dozen. Turisas makes history come to life in a way that transports you back in time and thrusts you into the living breathing world of the past. They deal with the horrors and tragedy of war from both sides, consequences and motivations, fears and pride and loss, home and family, despair and hope. They write songs about people, big and small, and their role in weaving the great tapestry of history. And the best part is that it’s informed - Mathias does his damn research and the tales he tells are rooted in fact. He brings them to life so we can experience what it must have been like for those real living people, with the goal of forcing us to confront our own selves in them. He’s a modern Homer, I shit you not.
Did I mention there’s a song about pirates that’s actually really complex and nuanced, about how the hypocrisy and vile colonialist deeds of emperors makes them no different than the criminals they persecute?
Or that they do a badass cover of Rasputin?? yeah?????
Anyway enough gushing. Their second and third albums (The Varangian Way, Stand Up And Fight) are consecutive concept albums that follow the story of the Varangian Guard (the legendary Viking battalion that defended Alexander the Great) so the songs are actually chronologically linked to tell this epic tale. It’s a fucking listen, lads. The Varangian Way is probably my favorite album. But all their albums are top notch.
My favorite songs: End of An Empire (this one comes for 2020 hard), Piece by Piece (AKA die fascists 2k20), Cursed Be Iron, Among Ancestors, Greek Fire, Miklagard Overture (you gotta earn this song tho, it’s the finale)
Good first listen picks/hits: Battle Metal, To Holmgard and Beyond, March of the Varangian Guard, Ten More Miles, One More
Finntroll. These other motherfuckers. My other boys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another big name in the Finnish folk metal scene. As you can see, their band revolves both aesthetically and musically around Scandinavian troll folklore. Yall weird elf-fuckers who like the really big ears? Here you go. Look at those ears. They’re good friends with Turisas. Both love their facepaint.
Musical style leans much more towards black and death metal influenced, with a heavier, fuller sound and growling vocals. But it’s an incredibly rich and creative aural tapestry, with layers of masterfully executed sound that’s a real delight to lose yourself in. Use of fiddle, brass, keyboard, accordion, and banjo, and strong folk melodies make their sound unmistakable and unique. They are known for their ‘black humppa’ beat, which basically gives the effect of feeling the primal need to stomp around loudly to their music. It’s great cardio. They also utilize orchestra in some great intro tracks. They know their stuff.
The majority of their songs are sung in Swedish (they do some English cover songs which are FANTASTIC holy SHIT), but don’t let that stop you. The mood and power and emotion of their music transcend language, and you can be sure the lyrics are about either trolls, witches, the dark woods, spirits, or something of that ilk. I think Swedish as a language works very well with this kind of music, and honestly having it in English would lose something.
They have been around a long time and so have many albums, but I personally have only listened to the last three which feature their current singer, Mathias Lillmåns, whom I adore. Those albums are Nifelvind, Blodsvept, and their recent release Vredesvävd (that i’ve had on repeat since I got it three weeks ago). I’m sure their other ones are great too, I just can’t make a personal recommendation since I haven’t heard them.
My favorite songs: Galgasång, Tiden Utan Tid, Ylaren, Skogsdotter, Två Ormar, Ett Norrskensdåd, Skövlarens Död
Good first listen picks/hits: Forsen, Under Bergets Rot, Häxbrygd, Trollhammaren (older song), Solsagan
I’ll go through these other ones a little faster, I haven’t heard quite as much from them but I do love them.
Korpiklaani.
Tumblr media
Great, full folk sound, utilizes a lot of folk instruments including some less commonly seen ones like hurdy gurdy. Songs are mostly in Finnish but plenty in English too. Jonne Järvelä has a really unique voice that grows on you, but it’s not for everyone. The band started as Sami folk, and Jonne is trained in Sami yoik singing, which makes an appearance in a few songs. I prefer the Finnish tracks, as a lot of the English ones are drinking songs lmao. But again, really well-executed music with layers of sound that keeps you hooked. I haven’t heard enough of their discography to really recommend enough to cover everything.
Song picks: Minä Näin Vedessä Neidon, Metsälle, Ämmänhauta, Lempo
Moonsorrow.
Tumblr media
Definitely a darker, black-folk band. Probably not a great pick if you aren’t accustomed to black metal - very long tracks (8-15 mins is standard), growling/shrieking vocals, a ‘thinner’ but encompassing wall of sound usual of black metal, but with the benefit of wonderfully entrancing dark folk elements and chants. It’s done really really well. Sung almost entirely in Finnish (apart from cover tracks). Lyrically, focuses on themes of Norse mythology, man vs nature and similar elements. Definitely one of those bands whose music gets you into a zone. I can lose serious time just putting a whole album on and letting my mind wander elsewhere. My favorite album is Jumalten Aika.
Song picks: Ruttolehto Sis. Päivättömän Päivän Kansa (my fucking FAVORITE), Suden Tunti (well known hit), and also uhh check out their cover of Non Serviam cause it’s a fucking banger
Other bands that I like what I’ve heard but really can’t say much about them, whoops - Tyr (from the Faroe Islands, great stuff, Faroese is a baller language), Ensiferum, Nightwish (female-led).... I’m open to suggestions. Like I said, there are folk metal bands all over the world, and each is intrinsically linked to a sense of place and cultural identity that makes them unique. I’d love to hear about more tbh.

every single lmam song, ranked.
i just finished listening to let’s make a music for the first time, and Oh My God it rocks. it’s a great podcast and if you’re reading this without having listened to it...i don’t know what to tell you. i don’t know what you think lmam means. but, that aside, if you haven’t listened to it yet: go listen to it! it’s not a crazy long podcast, overall or episode length-wise, so it’s manageable even for people who usually can’t handle podcasts (like me!) anyways, now that it’s over, what’s left for me to do with my time and energy that i used to spend thinking about lmam?
listen to the episodes again so that i can rank all fourty-one songs from worst to best, of course. so that’s exactly what i did.
i mostly ranked these on my gut feeling, because i didn’t come up with the idea of ranking it on a set of points before like...five minutes ago. there’s a bit of personal bias in here, so if you disagree with me on rankings, hey! send me an ask, or a dm. we can talk about it.
so, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into it! let’s...make a ranking. haha. that’s just a fun little lmam joke for you.
41. the roquefort stank
this song only gets points for laura’s stanky noises in the background. i love laura.
40. shan’t he shanty
weirdly catchy. for a sea shanty, that is. that’s all i have to say.
39. well, i’m on child...
i do love a good gay song about polyamory but it just wasn’t enough in this case. truly heartbreaking.
38. dog trash
i’m not a big fan of polka in general. that’s all i have to say. i don’t have to explain all my decisions. this is my journey. and it’s your journey that you’re taking with me.
37. echoes of wednesday
it’s not my favorite but i do think it’s sweet and i like all the laura vocals. also the zuko vocals.
36. brothers in legs
not their best character song but it’s still a song you could quietly headbang to. i just don’t love full story ballads (there is an exception to this, you’ll see) most of the time.
35. ol’ tim’s tricks
i’m not saying it’s a bad song, i’m just saying it sounds like it was once in a made for tv disney channel-esque movie about a girl who finds her calling in sports and friendship.
34. don’t give me that altitude
very queen-esque with general 80s vibes and i like that.
33. dreamless
if it was longer i think it would be a lot higher on the list, because it’s Good. but i don’t feel right putting a 45 second song above, like, tobie’s razor. still! i love the mellow, kind of sad and eerie tones of it.
32. holiday crime!
look i know this one’s fairly low on the list, hear me out: it’s a good song and it’s pretty memorable as well! but as far as holiday songs go, i don’t think it’s their best or most iconic one. laura’s laughing and beat in the back is absolutely wonderful and heartwarming, though.
31. mr. dad
this one gets a higher rating than the previous holiday song for its good good harmonica and because when i heard the lyrics “but you love to watch him go” used to describe mr. dad i almost toppled my chair backwards with me still in it.
30. mourning ritual
the biggest load of 1980s bullshit i’ve ever heard in this decade. somehow it’s also got a big panic! at the disco vibe and i’m not sure how i feel about it but it’s definitely Strongly There and i can’t deny it.
29. outback sadhouse
it’s RIDICULOUS how well they nailed the sufjan stevens vibe with this one. plus the restaurant dialogue bit in the back of the song really adds a lot.
28. let down my better dynamite
it’s really easy to bop to and the instrumental in the background is FANTASTIC! jonah really killed it with this one. plus they talk a lot about rats in the episode which is nice for me because i love rats. also it’s the first episode with an instance of “brian does a bit”.
27. the tale of the greazzy creek
i just think it absolutely nails the vibe of a rural campfire grizzled old cowboy song while also being a really catchy theme song. like, i think you could’ve snuck it into holes (2003) and i would’ve been like, yeah, that sounds right.
26. turn around and come down slowly
not one of their more iconic songs but brian’s voice is so pretty in this and it’s really soothing.
25. ratless randy’s
i don’t know why it’s this high on the list either, but it is. ratless randy’s really IS the place to be, guys.
24. tobie’s razor
i will be honest. when i saw the title for this episode for the first time i just thought “occam’s razor” and as i type this i can’t even think of what that actually is, so..... anyways, i’d say this song absolutely NAILS the vibe but i have no idea what vibe it’s even remotely related to. certainly does nail the internal childhood monologue though. i think this song is the first one where they really started hitting their stride, also. not that it’s better than some of the earlier ones, but this one forward their songs were pretty consistently high quality. plus, and no one will be surprised by this by now, it gets extra points for laura.
23. armoire of royals
it’s weird, it’s synthy, has a vaguely billie eilish-esque part near the end which is not necessarily a point in favor depending on your taste but it Definitely is surprising and cool, and it’s got fake british accents. what more do you need out of a song?
22. sybil’s night scare
the piano in this is perfect and fantastic and the comedic timing in the song is just right. jonah’s delivery of “they’re actually real human eyes” is so goddamn good and his singing is Also great and frankly i think we can all agree we’re fucking tired of him saying he can’t sing. i mean, i assume (i fucking hope) he’s stopped saying that by now considering he had the majority of vocals on silo by a bit but Still. it’s a good peppy halloween-y song.
21. chalice for your thoughts
two spooky songs in a row! honestly, i’m not sure what reasons i have for ranking this song as high as i did. i just like it a lot. they were able to include a lot of weird twitter suggestions fairly seamlessly, and it’s just soft and pretty. spooky, but still pretty.
20. 21st blitheday
i admit it: i fucking hate the voice brian uses in this. but i really, really like the song. the beat’s very good and somehow brian still manages to sing the chorus well and make it sound nice even though his affectation is Stupid as hell <3 the background whistling is nice and his robot voice, which he’s used for several of his videos but i think most notoriously for scrundler in his week in revue series (here), is also featured. it’s a real bop, i think.
19. monday night boomball
i genuinely think this is their weirdest song, ever. it’s incomprehensible and it’s so fucking theatre kid of them, and it’s dumb as shit but it’s really funny and enjoyable and strange and i love it.
18. gentle light
this is a really good song. it’s not weird or funny, it’s genuinely just a really soft, calming, normal song. i can’t in good conscience rank it above the others for this reason, because it’s easier to make a regular song good than it is for a song about fucking a tree, but i want to be clear: i really love this song. it’s a song that you could fall asleep to, cry to, cuddle up in a blanket to, whatever the hell you want to do to it.
17. proud egg mouth
extra points for fitting the word “maw” in any kind of song, a feat i’m not sure anyone else has ever accomplished. also for brian actually singing with an egg in his mouth.
16. you can take that to the bank
brian does an incredible randy newman impression and i love him for it. also it’s just a good song! it’s not my favorite but it’s very pleasing to my ears and it’s well made.
15. rainbow trout eggs
i listened to a shit ton of colbie caillat in middle school and i can tell you with confidence that the lyrics “i feel so alive and i know that i’m happy na na na na na hey hey” would be in one of her songs. it’s a good song with completely ridiculous lyrics and it’s a better character/full story ballad than their previous ones, in my opinion. which is what you’re specifically here for!
14. car mitzvah
i think this is a song my dad would listen to if it came on the radio. i also think it deserves to be in an early 90s or maybe coming of age movie. brian’s vocals are fantastic in this, also.
13. dr. brims
“it’s a new year, Ha Hah!” this song is sooooo fucking funny and exemplary of a lot of their other songs that came afterwards. i’ve been saying that a lot i think. writing reviews is hard.
12. let’s make a music (theme song)
maybe it’s the emotional value of this song being the song i associate most with the podcast, since it’s the theme song, or maybe it’s just really good. (spoiler: it’s both but mostly the second one) the episode is also really funny in general and if you’re new to the podcast and don’t care about order, i highly recommend this one first!
11. heartbreak in michael’s
a very very very good sad gay love song and i recommend it to the ends of the earth! because this is the internet, and i can!
10. arbor day!
you try making a horny song about deforestation.
9. why don’t you like our song title?
such a fucking bop and showcases their skill for just doing whatever the hell they want and STILL making a fantastic song or video or whatever. they just stop saying words in it and it does not take anything away from the song. could you do that? i mean...maybe! but for the sake of this review and my point i’m gonna be like fuck you no you couldn’t. moving on.
8. akimbo
the backing track in this is ABSOLUTELY what makes the song. plus that one video of brian strutting but technically that can’t affect my review of the song because Technically it’s not part of the song. anyways it’s really peppy and fun and enjoyable and Good.
7. heartbreak in michael’s (reprise)
it’s the perfect finale song. like, it genuinely sounds like the song that plays at the end of a romcom after everything’s finally worked out. i Did cry when i heard brian sing the theme song at the end but that’s just because i’m a sentimental son of a bitch. so besides that ending bit that i can(’t) guarantee will make you tear up at Least, it’s really fucking fun! it’s upbeat and happy and i think they made the right song to go out on. or to go on a hiatus on, if brian’s website is to be believed. i don’t believe it, but hypothetically, y’know? hypothetically...
6. debutaunt ball
if the met gala doesn’t make this their theme song i will personally burn next year’s event to the ground, i swear to god. also it’s a good song to show off both jonah and brian’s range. it’s not like a lot of their other songs but it’s SUCH a banger and i adore it.
5. madame zamporium’s wax emporium
fuck yeah. learning that the “ooh come on baby” from several unraveleds came from a let’s make a music is the reason i finally started listening to the podcast in the first place. but BESIDES that, since that’s not a reason for my ranking (just a fun little fact about me!), this song slaps a ridiculous amount. they went insanely hard and it’s the first song they made that really sets the tone of the podcast, which is: great comedy, great high production music.
4. alan rickman’s edible zoo
GOD! the anti-celebrity, anti-capitalist rock song i’ve been waiting all my fucking life for! also it’s anti-america but only in one lyric. but in Another sense....throughout the whole song. PLUS, and most importantly, it features jonah’s literally and i mean LITERALLY impeccable alan rickman impression. like, it’s fucking bulletproof. alan rickman was in the goddamn room.
3. horsecar!
look. when this song started playing for the first time i went...fuck no. in general i don’t tolerate country or cowboy songs very well because they just don’t sound appealing to my ears most of the time. i put up with country road only because of a funny mario edit someone made of it and now the original song has more value to me. this is relevant only because the same thing happened with horsecar! in that the chorus KICKS ASS. i may make a post on just my favorite lmam songs and also this is already a crazy long post so i won’t go into it too much but i will say this. the shock value of going from the first verse in this song to the chorus is...........Incredibly high and it Works So Fucking Well! it literally makes the song. and not even just for the short term value of Oh My God That’s A Twist, it lasts through the whole song. i’m listening to the song as i type this and i’m currently at the country/cowboy part and i don’t hate it because i know the chorus is incredible. in fact, i’d argue that the chorus on its own may be the best thing lmam ever made, even better than my two actual favorite songs of theirs. i’m definitely going to have to make a full post on this. (SIDE NOTE: BRIAN’S VOCALS ARE FUCKING CRAZY AND HORSECAR! IS ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS. his goddamn RANGE!! SIR!!! his falsetto is literally ridiculous my pants are OFF)
2. dragon me to this wedding
this is what i meant when i said there’s an exception to the “i’m not generally a fan of full story ballads”, because this is one of my all time favorite lmam songs. as in, it’s in the top three. which i guess you can tell from it being number two in the top three. in fact, it’s probably one of my favorite songs in general. the first time i listened to the episode i went back and listened to the song again three times in a row, and all three times i cried real tears. it’s GAY it’s REALLY PRETTY and i LOVE IT.
1. save 2 4 tony
so we’ve finally made it to my all-time favorite lmam song. maybe it’s that i recently graduated myself and so this song hits a little harder, but it also just GOES hard. i genuinely think they peaked when they recorded this. it’s one of those bdg songs where you’re listening to it, you’re just chilling, and it’s like “yeah wow this is nice!” and all of a sudden he hits a falsetto and you go “oh FUCK that guy can SING!” literally his vocals in this are incredible and it’s very fun (and on brand) that the Oh Fuck moment here is the line “tony hawk babeyyy!” plus jonah killed it on the backing and composition and everything. it’s the best let’s make a music song and i won’t take constructive criticism.
