The city hummed quietly, a distant noise that was easy to ignore in the dead of night. 

The streets were empty, save for the occasional car that passed by, its headlights casting shadows on the cracked pavement. 

The black-clad man walked in silence, his footsteps soundless. His body moved with a strange, fluid grace, practiced and honed over months of stalking and killing. 

He let the man move ahead, giving just enough space to appear unsuspecting, but never so much that he risked losing him.

Besides, the flickering streetlights cast deep shadows over the alleyway. They were the perfect places for someone like Regulus Black to hide. 

He moved silently through the darkness, blending in, eyes trained on the man up ahead. He'd been following this one for days- knew his routes, his habits, his life. 

Each movement the man made had been memorized with surgical precision, a necessary part of the ritual. 

Regulus didn’t rush- patience was key. 

Even though Regulus had already memorized everything there was to know about the man, it wasn’t him that had Regulus’s full focus tonight. 

No, James was the center of Regulus Black’s universe.

James Potter had wormed his way into Regulus’s brain months ago, in a way that the younger man never saw coming. 

At first, James was just another cop to avoid, another face in a crowd. 

The more Regulus watched, though, the more he felt something stir inside him. 

There had been nothing special about that first time he saw James. Just a casual day, a coffee shop on the corner, and a glimpse of that messy hair and those warm eyes. 

James had smiled at someone- maybe the barista- and Regulus had felt it- an unfamiliar tug. 

As time passed, the feeling grew, darkened, twisted into something dangerous. 

Obsession.
