headcanons:

emma has been drawing for as long as she can remember. if there’s a pencil or pen or quill in sight, emma will pick it up and set to drawing something. her favorite medium is definitely charcoal since it’s the easiest to come by and use quickly.

fuck shoes. if given a choice, emma would literally go barefoot all of the time. she kicks off her shoes at any given opportunity, and especially likes to go running when she is barefooted.

emma is a small girl and perhaps an even smaller wolf. it’s easy to spot her on a full moon as she is particularly small and irritatingly fast on her feet. she’s been lovingly referred to as the runt of the litter more often than not.

biography:

Darrell and Darlene Vanity never intended to be absent parents. Truly they didn’t, but they were young, and they were poor. Four children weren’t cheap. It took a lot of extra shifts, saving, and scraping by to just afford the power and water in their little trailer at the very edge of the park where the fence didn’t quite meet ends. More often than not, they were all four left to fend for themselves. More often than not, there just wasn’t enough room in the confined little trailer. The parents slept in the large bed crammed in the small side room with the eldest two kids, but the youngest two had a kitchen table that converted down so a mattress could slide on top. Needless to say, Emma Vanity always felt a bit trapped in such mundane circumstances.

There was a big hole in the fence around the back that the kids could crawl through while no one was looking. Emma couldn’t remember the first time she snuck through that old rusted metal to the playground on the other side. If asked, she would tell you that it was the first day she learned how to toddle out the front door of the trailer. She would spend hours on the swings, the seesaw, the merry go round, and the slides. Most of the fixtures barely worked, but it was a good escape for the Vanity kids. It was where Emma made her first drawing. It was where she broke her arm for the first time. It was where she first met the Greybacks. 

Only eight years old at the time, and already far too keen to escape her surroundings. Emma skipped school more often than not, it felt like the trailer in too many ways. Small-minded and confined by the walls of a big prison where the adults yelled at you for needing to piss or drawing on your tests or running at full speed down the hall. It just wasn’t a place for someone like her, and she didn’t need to be any older to see it. There was more to her than the other snotty little kids around her. Even if no one else could see it from the trailer trash. She had been busy that day trying to repair the rusted chain of the old swing set with the little bit of that unexplained extra she possessed, which later Emma learned was the beginning of her magic slipping through, when she got caught.

From the treeline, a woman stepped forward. She was perhaps the most beautiful person that Emma had ever seen. The first thing she did was tell Emma that she was special. Well they could definitely agree on that. The woman offered her more. More than a trailer and more than a rusted playground and distant school. More than parents who forgot her and siblings who didn’t notice her. Emma took her hand and never looked back. Frankly, she never even knew if her parents put up missing posters or not. It was probably a relief to have one less mouth to feed. 

Fenrir wasted no time biting her. That first transition was the hardest thing that she had ever had to go through. The pain of shedding her skin will be seared into the very core of her memory for the rest of her life. Yet, there was never any hesitation because she was a child or even any thought that she could not keep up with the rest of the pack. It was just expected that she would, and Emma lived for that independence. The Greybacks held to every promise made to her. They were far more parents to her than the Vanity’s had ever been. They raised her.

It was harder than she wanted to admit to leave them for Hogwarts, but ‘kids go to school’. So Emma went. It was confining at first. There was too much she wasn’t allowed to do again. It wasn’t easy to keep things under wraps, Emma had never been a very good secret keeper. Her first year, she certainly spent more time in detention than she ever did in class. She would spend hours drawing the intricate architecture of the castle and her classmates in various states of distress or joy. That is when she discovered Quidditch. She was hooked. The only reason she started to do her coursework was so that her marks would be good enough to play. A proper chaser in all regards. She even managed captain in her later years. It was likely the only reason she didn’t drop out in her fifth year like her parents had. That and a handful of good friends she wasn’t quite ready to lose. Besides, apparently the accommodations for werewolves had really improved in recent years. It wasn’t unbearable to tolerate the time. 

After graduation, Emma returned to her pack. Fenrir had made a deal with the devil, and that was just fine by her. It wasn’t as if she was particularly keen on a war, but it was always fun to have something to do. It kept her close enough to her school friends too. She trusted him with her life. That included what said life entailed. If he thought it was the right call, Emma would believe him. However, there’s been a building tension about just how right that call might be. In her spare time, she picked up a relatively flexible job at the local tattoo parlor as an artist and piercer, but there is a part of her that is screaming- what’s next?

2013 —> 01.18.20

This was an alternate universe au I came up with when I was 12. I thought it was a really cute concept and had a lot of fun redesigning it. I thought maybe I might run through the ideas behind each character.

To start off it was supposed to be sort of an opposites au. But since not everything has an opposite I got a little creative.

Snow princess was pretty simple. I could have done water princess but I wanted to keep the sort of dangerous aspect of the relationship like Finn and Flame Princess. Her design is roughly based on nordic queen looks. Whenever I think of cold I think of Norse mythology so I just thought it would be fun.

Circle Space Princess felt like sort of a cop-out to me. But the opposite of lumpy is smooth so that's what I got. Her coloring was really hard for some reason. She ended up kinda looking like Barney but it was the best I could come up with.

So for Wim, I ditched the whole opposite thing because he’s supposed to be the Finn character and Finn is the one the audience can relate to, so I wanted to keep that character in there. I changed his name from Sam to Wim just because I thought Sam was a bit too common. I don’t really meet a lot of Finn’s. I also really love the name Wim. Wim is basically an Urban Exer. He explores abandoned buildings left behind in the war (which I will talk about later) and caves and stuff.

Wim always goes exploring with his brother Markus the talking wolf. Markus is about the size of a mule and lets Wim ride on his back when they go long distances. I know the cat is supposed to be the opposite of dog and I did that before but it just didn’t sit right with me. I think maybe because, in the gender swap version, cake is a cat. Anyway. Markus does have magical powers but he doesn't know about them yet. He discovers his powers as the story unfolds.

Fire king is just that. He’s sort of more like trickster than a princess kidnapper. He’s more like ice king in the later seasons. He put on this wooden crown and it gave him fire powers which he used to help keep Rosalyn safe and warm. But he started getting a fever the more he used it. Anyway, his hair is made of fire like Hades in Disney’s Hercules. He’s a little bit more of a Gabriel type of Supernatural fame but also, doesn’t really know what’s going on.

Lady Monogon at first I had as Lady Alicorn. But Lady Rainicorn has sort of a clever name. So I thought having her be monochrome and being a dragon called monogon would be the same level of cleverness. Since regular Lady is Korean I thought Alt Lady could be Chinese. Originally I was gonna do German but I thought it would be more fun to draw a Chinese dragon, and they matched the original Lady’s body type better. Lady can fly. Markus and Lady have 3 dragon pups together. 1 has Markus’ magical abilities, 1 has Lady’s flying, and one doesn’t have any powers

When I first made these characters I had no idea what the opposite of bubble gum was so I just made her Princess Cupcake. But when I was thinking about it this time around and I remembered that both bubble gum and cotton candy are made by dentists so I turned her into Princess Candy Floss. Her look is based on this painting of Blanche of Navarre (the queen of France in 1350) because the poofy gowns and aesthetic of french queens reminds me of cotton candy. Her hair is cotton candy and it melts in the wet.

Rosalyn the werewolf queen. Pretty standard. In this universe, her mom was an angel and her dad was a human. So I guess technically she’s a Nephilim. Her story is the same as Marci but her mom is embarrassing her instead.

So the last thing. The mushroom war had an effect across all of the multiverses. In the land that this universe is in, they weren’t involved in the war but were in the crossfire. They had all the weird effects and 3/4ths of the population were wiped out in the process. The humans that were left mutated into nonhuman beings except for a small group of about 20 - 25 different families around the world. It’s not really known why these people weren’t affected. They grouped up to try and fix humanity but they didn’t succeed and slowly started dying off. Wim is the last to survive, his mother died during childbirth, his father didn’t know what to do with him and left him to be raised by wolves. Wim’s father escaped to another universe through a tear that the king of worlds attempted to sew back together. He didn’t do a very good job though and occasionally things slip in. (The king of worlds is the alt universe’s version of God that is real and sleeps on alt Jupiter which is a gas giant that absorbed a smaller planet)

Rosalyn draws her own tattoos then tattoos herself, which i think is pretty creative? Lorelei also designs and makes her own clothes, bc shes sick of everything being too big/tall/etc.

I mean, I’ve only shown people one story (and that has yet-to-be-completed) and so far everyone seems to be coming off as I intended, so not yet?

23. Introduce OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what the character would be like?

Rosalyn was originally a more Natasha Romanov/Black Widow-esque character, bc I thought all female fighter types had to be like that. It took me a while to figure out that, since I wanted to do something different, I could. So I made her more brutal, less graceful, more blunt and less “sexy”. Just overall different, because I’m interested in seeing more lady characters who fight in a way that’s more “ugly”.

24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?

Oh wow, I think I’d like to meet Lorelei? I think she’d be really fun to talk to, especially with all her random knowledge.

25. The OC that resembles you the most (same hobby, height, shared like/dislike for something etc?)

Derick certainly (unintentionally) looks the most like me, with the blond curly hair and the blue eyes, plus he’s insecure and anxious most of the time, and doesn’t always know what to do in social situations.

Not against my will, necessarily? Like, I’ve made plenty of changes, but that was always becasue I figured something out that I liked more, or that I thought fit better with the story.

Lorelei’s would be all cutesy and girly and pastel, and she’d probably reblog “hack” posts and videos, as well as makeup tutorials. Would post updates and how-tos on her latest fashion designs. Her most popular post is a tutorial on how to add pockets to the inside of skirts.

My first instinct was Rosalyn, until I realized her first instinct would be to square up and try to punch the horror game monster, and she’d probably die immediately. Carson could be helpful in attacking the monster too, but he’s also quite impulsive. Maybe Lorelei or Derick, as they aren’t as inclined to go into places where the monster would obviously be, but they might be intuitive about how to figure their way out.

I want to say pretty well? I’mhoping to have Derick go from “coward who would rather stay home thanpotentially help others and stand up for his beliefs” to “scared guy who bravely facesdanger anyways for the sake of his friends and what’s right”
