every good story should include two genres of villain: "i can fix him" (adar) and "i want him to make me worse" (sauron)
#we need that balance it's the best of both worlds#rop#rings of power#adar#sauron#also i feel like oftentimes category 1 is the second-tier villain#(who has enough narrative wiggle room for us to entertain tantalizing ideas of redemption)#whereas category 2 is the first-tier villain (who we want to always remain evil bc the story would fall apart and be boring otherwise)#and this takes me back to my old suggestion for wotshow that [redacted] be the second banana villain of their faction#instead of first banana because that leaves them more redemption wiggle room if there's a bigger villain above them
