It's largely gone away now but I always found it strange when people in the 2000s would complain about "Sonic and his lame friends" or "Sonic having too many characters". Aren't video games supposed to have characters in them? Mario and Zelda have like a billion side characters, so why aren't you complaining about them too??? A large game franchise is going to have lots of characters in it
