So Arnie's wife left him; they were unhappy, and while Arnie wanted to try and make it work (if only for Mara's sake), his wife up and left one day; neither he nor Mara have seen her since Anat dated a bit when she was younger, but in becoming a proper cleric, she resigned herself to a "stricter" moral code that forbade a lot of the "joys" of life; so, she doesn't date much. But she still had a maternal instinct that she wanted to fulfil, so she "created" Amun through a magic ritual. Dr Screwloose just never really dated anyone, not seriously; he was always so preoccupied with work, and science, that he missed out on having a social life - a trap he worries Shelley will fall into (which is what prompts him to stop homeschooling send her to high school)

How long can Shelly survive without her head? If she has a time limit, she's probably been through some pretty desperate times, as she keeps falling apart and seems to need help getting back on her feet.

She's fine, she can survive so long as she doesn't need to eat or drink
