Ok im awake again here we go.
So there are countless good videos on it already, to be fair the game itself HAS been consistently updating, and ?? somewhat delivering on the KS promises. However theyve completely ignored others
But thats not the point of this post, the point of this post is that several of the dragon designs theyve made and are working into implementing are direct rip-offs of other things
starting with the not-nightfury which was the first and only dragon you could play in the early access release once they started replacing their previously asset store bought dragons
Renamed from “plasma dragon” to “shadowscale” they have the ability to spit out the same plasma bullet the nightfury can, AND they can also cloak themselves and become invisible
Their headshape isnt too similar to the nightfury or itd be incredibly obvious, but the stylization is so comically different from their other dragons that its just obvious
Next up, we have another httyd ripoff! The blitz!! Which is just a skrill without legs!
And yes, it DOES have lightning powers just like the skrill thats why it’s called blitz babey
And last but not least, the “this totally isnt me copying avatars homework”
an honorable mention to this dragon, which has cloudjumper’s anatomy, save for the head bc as with the nightfury it was too iconic so it would have been glaringly obvious
Like cmon. There are already 4 winged dragons out there you didnt have to rip off the tail and the color gradient
Also, As an addition. It wouldnt really matter that These dragons are all like, homages or something to the franchises theyre referencing but to my knowledge they havent mentioned anything remotely about them, and knowing theres only ONE concept artist, and also the games scummy history, Im just putting these out as my own two cents
And I mention one concept artist because Im fairly sure Jia Hao is the only one working on the concept artworks for these games, and the other dragons dont seem to be inspired by any other franchises (again, to my knowledge. I could be wrong) So the disparity in stylization between these ones ive shown you, and these others:
Feels a little disingenuous.
As an extra honorable mention, theres another two dragons theyre working on which dont fit either of these styles either, somehow? There isnt any art/style direction to this game at all
This image is also not watermarked despite being on their official trello and every other image there being watermarked (and also a drastically different art style to everything else) so... what’s up with that.
Btw all of these images are publicly available and are taken from their trello, and from their steam updates page, which to be fair is fairly often updated. This post is less of a slam at them and more of a “yeah even tho theyre working on it theyre still being lazy AF about it”
Oh you guys need to remind me to make a post about the stolen designs in day of dragons btw. That ones a bit of a doozy theyre hella shameless
#thunderclap#day of dragons#long post#if you wanna know about the drama theres a bunch of videos on it on youtube. kira tv has one thats fairly recent as of a few months ago

Artist research
Now I know what type of camera I will be using I need to look at some examples of style and work so I know what I should be basing my photography work on, some of the artists I have picked use polaroid’s and some don’t but they all follow colorful and soft vibes
Martin Parr
Martin Parr a British photographer who is well known for his bright colours, weird angles and the reason im looking at his work is he has the flash on when its not needed. Which helps me as the instant camera you cannot turn the flash off no matter what.
The image with a British flag covering the person is a well-known martin parr image and can be seen as a political statement in some cases however when i look at it i get all the essentials of a British holiday, a bad camping chair from poundland, a random field with a football goal in the back, an ice cream van and of course the older generation wearing more formal clothes. this image as a whole is pretty well placed with slight rule of thirds with the main focal point, the old lady, being to the right of the middle. while the flag covers the face which in some sense could create a nice mysterious feel to the image however it i also think takes something away from the image, there is something weird about not seeing their face which both makes and breaks this image for me. One of the main things I like about this image is how colourful it is, it’s a well known thing for Martin Parr to have super bright colourful images but something about this makes me want to try and recreate it.
The second image of the person holding their glasses has the summer and bright colours I was talking about. The wind breaker in the background plus a outfit of bright and fun colours which overall creates a nice summer image with all the things i would want in my images, the picture is also a little confusing as the person has a very orange tone on their face which does not match their tone on the arm so im a little confused but that may be perspective or something. but overall i am very much into the style this image is conveying. With bright colours, some sense of confusion but overall just a summer feeling.
the last image which is one based on flash which is one of the main reasons i was drawn to martin parr as some of his images use flash in times when they are not needed, for example like this, and because im using a instant camera i wont be able to turn flash off so i think the best thing for me to do is do work similar to this image, play with the ideas of flash in less conventional ways , such as light flash both towards the sun and away from the sun which can create some amazing styles of photography, the only problem i may get when using flash for small objects such as cans and nail polish as the flash will probably drown out any way of reading the actual object so i will need to work on placement and flash when actually taking images.
I thought I should add the style of using sun and flash at the same time is something I have actually done on my dslr and here is an example or two.
Both of the images make the main focal point look flat as the shadows created by the sun our taken away by the flash going off and the same the other way around. it creates a weird but nice aesthetic
Stefanie Schneider
Another artist I’m thinking about following in their footsteps is Stefanie Schneider, a Berlin born however Los Angeles based artist who works with polaroid’s and this idea of imperfect work so having these bright white spots in her work and images that could be seen as badly done by some as there is a lack of focusing done by the camera and all the lighting is wrong with nearly every focal point being too bright or weirdly placed. However, I think this is fun when I see work like this that has broken the “law of photography” and is still beautiful and amazingly artistic then doing these things is okay, the law of photography that i am referencing is this idea of doing everything by the book or like the normal way of photography so having the focal point in the middle or as a rule of thirds. And having the right kind of lighting so having low or high iso and what not.
But to challenge that I have always seen that as badass and specially when it is done well it can look amazing such as this work , like you can challenge those rules and have it come out badly however some artist including Stefanie can do it in an amazing way which I would like to attempt to take on.
While this artist works solely on this kind of look and style they still haven’t lost the charm, some photographers can lose their charm when they redo things every single time but something about this style of “messing” up the photograph very much follows the vibe of polaroid’s as they can be hard to use and come out terribly most of the time but sometimes when done on purpose they look amazing.
Leta Sobieraksi
Leta Sobieraksi is a still life studio artist who works with colour which is something I want to make sure I keep in my work as bright colours brings me happy vibes and because this is all about things that make me happy it makes sense to have lots of colour.
Leta Sobieraksi takes everyday objects such as a banana or passion Fruit and paints them until they no longer show any resemblance of their original look apart from shape. Adding a colourful background and you have their work. It’s something very easy but looks amazing.
when looking at the first long image the biggest thing we notice is that the fruit (while the outside is painted) is on a pedestal which is a nice touch as it adds this power to it that it would not have if just on the table . its high up and feels more important, i think playing with the idea of height and other objects within one image is something interesting that i hadn't even thought about before this artist.
The other image I wanted to talk is the crazy one with hands coming out of the wall, its not really something i will probably use or follow as inspiration but i just wanted to talk about it sure crazy and i have not really seen anything else like it, so i just thought the way all the objects are coming out the wall with the hands holding them is such a cool thing and if i was feeling super experimental i could play with this idea but i dont think i will. i just liked the colours
Overall I have found some inspiration for my work which I want to follow and here is the list:
- Bright flash in places that might not need flash
- Weird or strange placement of camera/object
- Colourful object or background wherever possible
- It doesn’t matter if the image is blurry, too bright or something its part of the vibe and fun
