oh my gosh! thank you!! i really love character interactions and relationship dynamics, so i wanted to depict two girls who seemed like opposites - one cool and laid-back, the other soft and sweet. after a while they started to take on a life of their own, and i thought it'd be wonderful if their story could evoke the feeling of a shoujo romance!

i had a lot of things on my mind when i wrote the script... friendship, intimacy, communication... communication can be so hard! sometimes it's harder with someone you're close to because their opinion is so important to you. and what happens when you've got a character who's non-confrontational and has low self-esteem + someone who prefers actions over words, and would rather burn bridges than admit to feeling vulnerable? how would they get past that? i wanted to write their flaws as believable, and how their life experiences have shaped the way they think about themselves / the way they respond to personal conflict... but also how they learn from each other and grow ❤️ tysm for the question!!

thank you both so much!!!! <3 a sequel is actually one of the ideas i pitched for my second book! my editor cautioned against it in case IYHM didn't perform well, so i ended up going in a different direction - but my fingers are crossed for future opportunities 😤 realistically, it will probably depend on sales... but for the record, i'd want to do one regardless of the numbers...

i have one more book coming out, which i'm working on right now! the timeline is a bit up in the air atm but i'll try to keep everyone posted. making a book is so slow but i'm so grateful to you all for waiting 🥺💛

howdy! thanks so so so much for asking about tmitawh!!!! giving you SO much love!! i love talking about these fucked up lesbians of mine <3 <3 <3

it's...certainly going!!!! unfortunately, i've been writing this story since 2019, so i've had a very long time to sit with this story, my writing, and these characters. i feel as though i've perpetually been in this state of "my writing sucks and is uninspired and also this story is so fucking boring omg this will never get published" and i dont think that this is a stage i'll get out of unless i send it in and either get the feedback that "yes your writing is bad" or "no, it's not, you've just been sitting on this too long, BUT here's some actionable feedback to help make the story better" i had a whole meltdown a few weeks ago where i was thinking that i needed to change my book from 3rd POV to 2nd POV and the publishing world was just going to have to deal with it (read: i did not, in fact, rewrite the whole book into 2nd POV)

not to mention, my writing from 2019 (when i was 19) to now is very different! it's matured a little (i hope) so reading the early chapters of the book, to now trying to edit to match my voice/tone now, to then stumbling across the chapters i wrote this time last year has been discouraging. i dont think my book needs a rewrite - i think im looking for perfection when im unable to do that without feedback and criticism. @lapinlunairegames has been SO KIND in helping me read and offer feedback when they're able, of course. i think it does need to come from someone invested in getting the book published.

which is a whole problem in itself! im not disillusioned about the difficulties of publishing, especially now when there are now more people than ever trying to get their books published. the easiest part of writing a book is writing the book. i still have to get a lit. agent, an editor, and still sell the book to a publishing house - most books die on submission.

but i still have enough faith to try. anyway, im halfway through editing! i know previously i had said that i want to start querying this summer, but it didn't end up happening between me starting a new job and having to take summer classes. but i am so serious about starting to query this year. i really really do want to take the chance on myself and not reject myself before someone else has the chance to.

Feller, I love this question SOFUCKING MUCH. I worked so fuckin hard on it, I even MADE ILLUSTRATIONS. IWORKED. SO HARD. This is one of my favourite questions of all time and I hopeyou like my answers!! Anyway…

Charles doesn’t have any tattoos,and with his dark complexion it might be difficult – the ink of tattoos sitsunder the melanin layer of the epidermis, I’m told, so even white ink doesn’t showup particularly well on very dark black and brown folks. I don’t think he’d bemuch interested in them, either, cuz he wants to be a lawyer, right? So heneeds to maintain some professionalism. He already gets dragged for his hair (whichis some institutionalized racism that he refuse to bow to, in court he wears itin a bun), so he doesn’t really want to stand out any more than he already doesin his profession.

Arthur is a professionalautomechanic and freelance contractor/electrician/plumber, so for him itdoesn’t matter as much. He’s got both ears pierced (3 in his right, 2 in hisleft) and after too surgery he got his right nipple pierced – he only has onenipple, cuz  the left didn’t survive topsurgery, so it’s tattooed on instead. But that’s not his first or only tattoo!

Back when he thought he was justa Butch Lesbian, he got that like, interlocked Female symbols thing tattooed onhis shoulder, which, once he realized he was trans was a HUGE yike for him… hehad a moment where he was like “aw shit” and started cry-laughing about he uglyirony of it. He’s since had that covered up with a rose and horseshoe designand a nice banner that says like, “Keep on Pushin’” or something

Hes also got a Colt Single ActionArmy Peacemaker revolver on his left shoulder blade, mostly cuz he thinks gunsare cool… But also because Peacemaker, and the beatitude goes “Blessed are thePeacemakers, for they will be called Sons of God.” I think he’s not religious, buthe has a lot of Feelings about religion, and that line always stuck with him –to be a son, rather than a daughter, and to be loved by a god he was told hatedhim.

On the back of his calf, he’s gotthe silhouettes of three galloping horses – one for Dutch, one for Hosea, andone for John. Arthur loves horses almost as much as he loves dogs.

When Charles and Arthur get married,they exchange rings, but because of his lifting and working with his hands, hedoesn’t wear it most days; it hangs on a chain around his neck, or lives on thebedside table. He mostly only wears it on his finger on like, SpecialOccasions. also tbh it’s times like these when i end up calling my own relationship with gender into question 

like in general i feel very not female gender-wise (every post about identifying as a lesbian being your only real tie to identifying as female really resonates with me) and i would tend toward saying i feel comfortable presenting and like.. envisioning myself as a more masculine person, but then shit like this happens and i just cannot escape the visceral hatred toward men that i really wish wasn’t a thing. 

like boy howdy do i wish i didn’t have to contend with this because my issues with gender and my own self-esteem are already tangled enough, but now i have to wonder “Do I want to explore masculine gender identities because of internalized misogyny, a lifelong issue with feeling comfortably feminine, and a perpetual struggle with reminding myself that feminine things are not inherently less valuable, or do i want to explore masculine gender identities because I hate men, and I hate myself, and I’m romantically interested in women and feel that I can’t possibly be a woman because I am just not a good enough person, or, or, or,” etc and like. when you get down to it the real reason is just that being perceived as female makes me uncomfortable and being perceived as male doesn’t, but there’s still that why that plagues me, like maybe i’m doing this for the wrong reasons, maybe it has nothing to do with gender, so on 

(this is where we get to the part where terf logic really scares me- not the part about how trans women aren’t women because obviously they are and that’s a load of shit, but the part about... what if i think i’m trans because i want to distance myself from women? what if they’re right? what if i’m being shitty and betraying women as a whole for selfish reasons, especially when the only unifying quality of men is generally that they’re all shit and don’t treat women like people- why would i want to be that? just to? escape being the victim? im not sure i could go about my day identifying as a man because the guilt would just weigh on me, i would be constantly afraid that my presence would be upsetting to the women i would want to be around......)

my personal issues have gotten too tangled up in political issues and i can’t sort them out but anyway men are shitty and that pisses me off on a very weird and very personal level
