5 Years and Counting -- Requested (Tom Holland x Actor!Reader)
Woo, okay. So this was requested and I was excited because I haven’t really been much of a “prompt filler” kind, so this happened. I feel like I dropped the ball with this, but idk.
Again, any and all feedback is welcomed and is appreciated. Feel free to message me about anything and everything (honestly, did y’all watch that last Sherlock episode? Wtf?). And the reader is portrayed as a neutral character for inclusivity :)
Prompt at the end. Thanks a ton!

You had been back on set for a total of 13 hours and you had already managed to come face to face with the director’s golf cart – so everything seemed to be out to end your acting career. Considering neither you nor Jon had seen each other, it only made sense that you both had spent a considerable amount of time apologizing to each other.
“Look, Y/N, if Tom finds out I almost ran over you today, he would have me murdered!” said Jon, as he fiddled with his hat.
You laughed, feeling your eyes crinkle a bit, “Jon – Jon, honey, this was all my fault. I’m never this clumsy in public – I should have stopped staring at my phone when I was crossing the driveway. I was completely distracted with Twitter!”
“Y/N, you shouldn’t be taking any responsibility, though!” You continued to laugh at how not-over-this Jon was. “I was driving. You were a pedestrian. You had the right away.”
“Jon Watts – you do realize this is a parking lot, right? And that this is a golf cart, yes?” You rested your right palm against the roof of the golf cart, smiling some more. “I don’t want to diminish the situation, but nothing happened. You’re okay, man.”
He gaped for some seconds and huffed out a sigh. “I don’t know how you’re okay with this – considering I almost ended your life and my own – but whatever you say…”
“No harm was done, no guilty party, Watts.” You reached into the golf cart’s cup holder, took the coffee, and proceeded to walk away from the cart. “It’s been a pleasure almost dying here today, Jon. I’ll see you in half an hour!”
Jon honked twice and you heard it continue down the driveway towards the bigger trailers. You sipped the coffee, thanking the heavens that you and Jon took coffee the same way. You continued to walk towards the tent holding all of the catering for the day and you were glad to see that it was somewhat empty when you arrived.
Although you loved being around the cast – they were all fun and kind and supportive of your relationship with Tom – you still enjoyed the alone time you had in the mornings of filming. With this being your second day back on set since the tiny break you all had, it was somewhat difficult for you to get back into the groove of things as easily as everybody did. You were missing your home and your friends and you were missing the lazy days you had.
Tom fully supported the “alone time” rule – considering you had known each other for 6 years and had been dating for 5, you both knew that with your careers, lazy days were few. He also claimed you were cranky in the mornings, but those were semantics.
You moved towards the table holding bread and pastries and decided to grab a croissant. You moved onto the other tables and continued to add stuff to your plate. When you were satisfied with your choices, you put your plate on the nearest bench and went to get yourself some juice.
As you walked back to the table, you were surprised to see Marisa Tomei walk into the tent with her phone pressed to her ear. She saw you, smiled, and waved a bit as she continued her conversation. She fussed around the edge of the tent, keeping her voice low – you figured she was having a private conversation and did not feel that listening in was an appropriate thing to do. You began eating and continued to give Marisa her privacy.
You continued to eat and got rid of some of the email notifications on your phone. As you were nearing the bottom of your juice glass, you heard Marisa wish the other person on the line “good luck” and you heard as she began walking towards you.
“Good morning!” She wrapped her arm around your shoulders from behind and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead. “How is my favorite person from this set?”
You swallowed the last bit of croissant and smiled up at her. “I’m good, auntie Marisa. How are you?” You laughed when you saw her blush at you calling her auntie. Considering you and Tom had gotten used to calling her aunt (and all other variations of the word), it still surprised you how off-guard she always was about it.
“I’m doing well, sweetie.” She placed her coffee cup on the table and sat across from you. “Today’s an excellent day!” She kept smiling and sipped at her coffee. You raised an eyebrow at her, anticipating her continuation, “I’m excited to finally finish filming."
"In a rush to get away from me?”
“Never!” She threw her hands up, nearly knocking her cup over, “I would take you with me everywhere if I could!”
You continued smiling, “Thank you, auntie, the feeling is mutual.” You finished off your food and wiped your mouth with a napkin. You glanced at your phone, realizing you only had about 7 minutes before you had to be in makeup. You stretched your back and sighed happily.
“You sure you doing alright, sweetheart?” She grabbed your hands and began massaging them lightly.
“I’m great!” Your smile never went down, “Today feels like a good day – I feel really good today.”
“That’s wonderful, darling. You deserve happy days.” She smiled kindly at you.
Your phone began ringing and you were hesitant to answer, but Marisa just nodded at you to answer. You weren’t surprised to hear from make-up and thanked them for calling you.
“I’ve gotta go aunt Mari, but I will see you later, yes?”
“Absolutely!” She waved as you walked off to put your items in the trash and waved to Marisa one last time.
“Hello, darling.” Tom walked over to where you were waiting for to film for the day.
You grinned at him and continued to use your left hand to shade your eyes from the sun. You pulled him in for a kiss as he got close and sighed into his mouth as he gripped your waist. When you pulled away you went to wipe the sweat off of his forehead.
“Hello, boyfriend.” You pulled him close and tried to rest your head against his shoulder without messing up your hair or make-up. “Totally feeling the spidey suit today – you must be boiling underneath that thing.”
“I’m dying!” He scrunched his face and squinted as he looked down at you. “I don’t understand how I’m expected to wear this thing all day…"
"The real Spider-Man would never complain about the suit, Holland…” You teased Tom and began fanning yourself with your copy of the script.
“Yes, he would!” Tom began squeezing your shoulders, “The real Peter Parker would be hella annoyed right now!”
You laughed, “Hella?”
“Hella!” You lifted your head and laughed in Tom’s face. “It’s my new word, courtesy of Jacob.” He laughed and hugged you close to him.
You giggled into Tom’s neck and kissed his below his ear. “I love you,” you whispered.
He leaned his head against yours and kissed your ear, “I love you."
You lifted your head and kissed him, without any hesitation. You both continued kissing for several seconds and you grinned into the kiss when you felt Tom’s hands cradling your neck.
This time, Tom pulled away with a sheepish grin. You smiled at each other like lovestruck doofuses and he pressed his forehead against yours – he closed his eyes and sighed, but the grin never left his face.
"I love you a lot.” His thumb rubbed under your ear, “I would literally do anything for you sunshine.” You closed your eyes now. “Jon told me about the incident this morning. And it scared the shit out of me.” He chuckled bitterly, a chuckle that was also filled with some sort of fear. “And it reminded me that I could lose you any day – it could be the saddest or happiest day of my life, and I could lose you in an instant.” He kissed the top of your cheek, right under your eye and continued. “I don’t know what I’d do without you, but… but I would follow you anywhere, love. 5 years isn’t enough time to have loved you properly."
You blushed and looked down to the ground. After 5 incredible years, Tom still managed to throw curveballs at you – he always found new ways to surprise you.
"Fuck,” you chuckled and looked Tom dead in the eye, “I love you enough to not put you through the cheesy stuff today.” He laughed and threw his head back.
“Alright, children!” You both heard Jon begin to shout at everyone – you rolled your eyes good-naturedly and then looked over to where Jon was having everyone gather around. “Gather around everyone, gather around!”
You and Tom held hands as you both moved towards the circle that was forming. As you guys moved, you both exchanged greetings with everyone that was near you. You gave Tony and Jacob quick side hugs, seeing as they were the closest to you.
“Glad to see you two can mingle with the rest of us,” said Jacob.
You laughed and looped your arm through his, “No need to be upset Jacob, you’re still my favorite person…”
“Damn right,” you two fist-bumped each other and you saw as Tom rolled his eyes and continued chatting with Laura on his opposing side. “So tell me, Y/N, he still treating you right?”
You smiled, “Coming up on 6 years now – if he hasn’t been treating me right, I don’t know what he’s doing to have kept me around so long…”
“It’s the dog,” he began laughing, “It’s because he’s got a sick dog.”
You both laughed for a couple more seconds before Jon managed to quiet everybody down.
“As you all know” he began. “Today, the lovely and extremely talented Marisa Tomei finishes filming for the day.” The entire crowd booed, but Jon continued. “And as such, we would like to remind everyone to make today the best day for her. She deserves a good final day and we hope we can all pitch in to help her have that, yes?”
Everyone whooped and clapped – Jacob whistled. You could see Marisa trying very hard not to cry and you felt yourself getting emotional, too. “Love you auntie!” You shouted out and continued to smile when you saw her blow you a kiss.
“So we’ll save final words for after shooting today – let’s go have a surprising day everyone!”
As everyone shuffled around to get ready to film, you saw that many of the people who were passing by were patting Tom on the back and shaking his hand. You were confused – although everyone knew Tom, you felt confused for not having noticed this happen before. You felt like maybe Tom was feeling upset about Marisa leaving and he hadn’t told you, so you went and asked him before you went to your mark.“You alright?”
“Ye– Yeah, definitely, absolutely,” he seemed nervous, “Why?”
“No, nothing. Just saw people coming over to console you – figured you were upset about aunt Marisa leaving.”
“Oh. Yeah – a bit I guess.” He scratched the back of his head, “Things will turn out great, though, yeah?”
"Absolutely,” you smiled at him and proceeded to go to your mark.
One of the strangest things about the film was that you were playing Spidey’s best friend – a friend with a gigantic crush on Tom. And considering the situation you and Tom were in in real life, the fictional pining became a running joke with the cast. Considering your character was created when the Marvel heads didn’t want to let you go, you knew the script was constantly being rearranged to fit whatever Jon and his team felt was the “right direction.”
It’s when you’re filming one of Marisa’s final scenes that you begin to feel confused.
Tom is in full Spidey-mode – his mask is on, he’s breathing funny, and his eyes are never meeting yours. You’re in the living room with Marisa as May and you’re in your Ash clothes. Tom is crouched in the corner, meant to be staring at the New York skyline. May is in the kitchen, meant to be making some kind of snack.
“Peter,” you began moving slowly towards him. “Peter – I can’t help you if you don’t tell me what’s wrong, buddy.”
Peter – instead of continuing to stare and ignore you – turns to look at you. He gives a bitter laugh. Considering Jon had mentioned improvisation in previous circles, you tried to continue the script the way it was written.
“Peter – did something bad happen today? Do you need help?” You rubbed your arm, “I can help Petey – ” You let some tears fall, “Just say the word and– and I’ll help. You’re human best friend can help…”
Peter suddenly stood up and pointed a finger at you and said, “But you’re not human!”
To say you were shocked would not be enough to describe your face. You gaped and looked at the director waiting for some kind of signal that they should cut – but he just shook his head and made the motion for you guys to continue.
“Pete – ” You sighed and continued to look puzzled. “If I’m not human – then what am I?”
“I don’t know!” Peter/Tom began to pace around the area near the sofa, placing his hands near his head like he was really thinking this through. “But I intend to find out…”
May/Marisa walked out of the kitchen and she leaned against the wall, watching this all go down. You looked from between her and Tom and tried to continue the conversation in the way you thought the writers wanted this to go.
“What makes you think I’m not human?”
“At first it was small things,” he began. “The way you smiled at me and laughed at everything I said. And then we started dating and you were too perfect to be real.”
You stood in shock and began cursing everyone for not having told you the entire script had been changed.“And we’ve been together for 5 years and you still think this is for the movie,” he laughed through the mask and began walking towards you.
“And you’ve been amazing every single day.” He cradled your face and took a strand of hair and put it behind your ear. Your face was frozen and your heart was beating so fast – you were nervous and you had no idea what was happening at all.“And we’ve had our ups and our downs. And we’ve been sick and sick of each other –” you both laughed and you started to tear up again. “You’ve been my rock and my hope and my smile and my light and my everything for 5 years and I don’t know where I’d be without you. I know you’d have the world in the palm of your hand and that I’m holding you back.” You shook your head – no, Tom was never holding you back and you kept shaking your head at him… He was never holding you back.
You tried to remove the mask so you could kiss him, but he placed his index finger over your mouth. His eyes searched yours for a second and he seemed to find what he was looking for when he continued. “You are perfect and inhuman. And I love you so much.” His eyes teared up and you released a sigh – this felt like reassurance. “I love you unconditionally and infinitely, sunshine. And I’ve been calling you my partner for almost 6 years now – and that doesn’t feel like it’s enough…”
You breathed in deeply, with tears in your eyes. “So what are you going to do about it spider boy?” Your sassy tone brought a smile to his face and he let you go and took a step back.
He smiled sweetly at you, pulled something from the back of his belt, and he got down on one knee.
“I think fiancee might be a better term for what we got here, babe.” He smiled cockily at you.
You laughed and covered your face as you continued to cry.
“Y/N,” his hands shook a little, the only indication that he was anything but confident. “Will you marry me?”
You nodded and nodded and nodded and fell to your knees and wrapped Tom in your embrace, “YESYESYESYESYESYES. A THOUSAND TIMES YES.”
Jon stood up from his chair, tears in his eyes, and began the slow clap. Everyone, everyone from catering to hair and make-up to the cast themselves, began to clap – people began whooping and whistling and yelping, happy for the two of you.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” announced Watts, “that is a wrap on this proposal!”
You let go of Tom and you both laughed at everyone’s antics. People came up to you guys and congratulated you and hugged you both. Everyone was so happy and some people made jokes about some of the presents they would get for the wedding,
“If we’re even invited!” shouted Harrison from somewhere near the camera. You laughed and continued to accept congratulations from everyone. You felt someone wrap their arms from behind and you felt a gentle kiss placed on your head. You turned around and proceeded to hug Marisa as she continued to silently cry.
“I’m so happy Tom asked me for help with this,” she began. “You two deserve to be happy forever.”
You began crying a lot stronger now and gripped her tight, “Thank you so much auntie, thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome sweetheart.” She rubbed your back and you pulled away as someone handed you tissues. You laughed, “I’m sorry for ugly-crying on your last day, Marisa. And I’m sorry about the auntie thing,” she gave you a questioning look, “I know you didn’t like it, but it was so hard not to see you that way after a while, you know?”
“Oh, Y/N. That was the highlight of my day – I love being your auntie!” She laughed, “I will always be your auntie. Auntie Marisa will always be there for you – don’t forget that.”
“I won’t, auntie.” You held her close one last time, “Thank you for everything.”
“You’re always welcome.” She kissed your head one last time and pulled away, “Now. I’ve got to go get my make-up redone because Jon will never let me live it down if I look like this when we really finish.”
You both laughed and you watched her walk over to the make-up artists. You looked around the room and you saw Tom standing a few feet away. You accepted a few more congrats and thanked everyone – you knew that everyone here was in on it in some way and you were glad to have them all with you. Tom saw you and he met you half way.
“Hello, darling.” He smiled at you the same way he did earlier.
You bit your lip and felt giddy when you responded with, “Hello fiancee.”
“I do like the ring of that!” He said, sounding extremely English then.
“Well,” you pulled him close, “I sure hope you do ‘cause this ring isn’t tiny.”
“Only the best for the best.” And he pulled you in for a kiss. You kissed and kissed but you pulled away after a few seconds.“We have the proposal filmed, correct?”
“Yes?”
“Good.” You brushed your thumb over his bottom lip, “Because my parents are going to kill me if I don’t have that to show them.”
“Well, fiancee,” he smiled, “It’s a good thing we’re on a film set.”
“I agree!”
“Good!” He grabbed your hand and pulled you over to the snack table, “Now, let’s show off the ring baby!"
