all my pain is centred on the single plot point (he has sex with lois as superman then leaves), but overall it's got some great moments [SEE ABOVE OMG], and routh is legitimately a great clark and superman - i'd love to have seen him take a second run at it. he's huge and adorable, and closer to the christopher reeve than the dean cain model of character (though i do love both modes) and i am CHARMED.

yeah same for sure, leaving, the circumstances surrounding him leaving, with a side of slight ickiness at times (unsolicited x-ray visioning @ the lane residence?? CLARK NO. trying 2 kiss an engaged woman? EVEN THOUGH YES CK, I KNOW IT’S LOIS. clark pls. he’s oftentimes a lovable alien stalker but taking it a little too far here) 

upon rewatch i was really constantly jarred by the overt faith to the donnerverse and that ties into the sex thing which is like! yikes!!! and him leaving for FIVE YEARS!!! da FUK, CK. though with the painstaking connection to the previous films, i sort of rationalized like:

- brando jor-el said in the first movie that a trip from krypton to earth took a bunch of years bc it’s far or w/e, so even if he went for a brief period it took a lot of time (BUT CLARK WOULD’VE KNOWN THAT??) 

- his idea of responsibility and fealty and OWING something to people is smth that the donnerverse skirted around as well, like initially he’s ready to ditch that shit cos he loves lois - but here it feels like it’s not a good fit bc a 5 year long absence and then showing up like hi sup what’s going on is like... not right. esp bc you’d think he’d learned something from the experience

putting that aside, ROUTH SUPES IS REALLY REALLY CUTE. and his clark is ADORABLE. and if you ignore the circumstances surrounding it for a moment, him having a lil bab with lois and his FACE when he LOOKS AT THE BABY (the baby surrounding by plane-adorned bedroom and other things that can fly lol) is sooooo precious. so precious.
