After many long long months of waiting, I've finally got hands on a copy of Masters of the Air from my local library, and yes, I'm already gut-punched at Miller's last words on Rosie after the Münster raid:
"Later, Rosenthal learned from ground crews that that there had been an unexploded cannon shell rolling around in one of Royal Flush's wing tanks. A member of his crew speculated that a slave laborer, working in a Nazi munitions factory, had sabotaged the shell."
#they saved him so he could save them#they couldn't speak but he would serve as their accuser against their murderers#I'm only up through the first planes to land in East Anglia but it is fascinating so far#please note the first line in the book is: 'Maj. John Egan's private war began at breakfast in a London hotel'#little did Donald Miller know what he would unleash#also fascinating: we missed out on so much possible Bucky/Rosie interaction#apparently he was the one who finally got Rosie into active duty and after they flew together Egan said he wanted Rosie as his wingman#I will try not to post the whole book as I read I promise#Masters of the Air
