Well we hope we didn’t scare you away! Our favourite time of the year is here and with it a Halloween themed Issue! Next to the regular WNIF stuff we included a recommendation section full of the best games to play in this time of the year, so be sure to check it out!

We want some feedback!

As we’re starting to get a hand of things, we would love some feedback from you guys! What you enjoy, want more or less off, how we could improve... Anything goes! We even have a nifty form!

Due to the severe changes in the Zine team, we are once again looking for free hands with a couple of hours to kill, and minds, looking to make a little difference in the community!

~ EVENT SPOTLIGHT : ECTOCOMP 2024 ~

La Petite Mort or Le Grand Guignol? Either way, it’s going to get spooky!

Ever since October 2007 spooky-game enthusiasts all over the world have a chance to participate in ECTOCOMP, an annual competition for interactive fiction celebrating the SPOOKY MONTH OF HALLOWEENTOBER. Whether you celebrate Halloween, Day of the Dead, All Saint's Eve, or just love ghost stories and creeping people out, this is your time to shine!

Previously organized by Jason Guest for ADRIFT games, the jam is now open to all development platforms. Since the beginning of this initiative, there has been a motivation to unite and strengthen ties between international communities in the IF world. Creators can submit games either in one of the four main languages - English, Spanish, French and German or any other!

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Ghostbusters. Named after the Ghostbusters’ car license plate number ECTO 1, this year the jam pays tribute to the film that inspired the title! Some other subthemes and inspiration prompts are: Spooky adventure, Sweet supernatural, Halloween fest, Día de Los Muertos, All Saints', All Souls' Eve and any other festivity or mythology around the world.

As per tradition, Ectocomp has two categories:

La Petite Mort, for those who want to speed-write their game in 4 hours or less.

Le Grand Guignol, for games that, for whatever reason, took longer than 4 hours to write.

When the jam is over, all of the submitted games will be uploaded to the IF Archive.

It’s spooky month and with it comes the annual ECTOCOMP 2024. If it’s spooky or supernatural why not submit it?

Running until Halloween, the Phantasia Jam is a three months game jam to create a fantasy narrative game, with the theme of “Hidden Magic”. It accepts both VN and IF.

On the CoG Forum, Halloween is already there! Until Oct 31st, you can submit your projects to the Halloween Jam - but don't forget the theme! VAMPIRE, Murder, 70’s Disco!

Disabled Rep VN Jam has a very simple premise but a very important message.

Once upon a time, a game jam was held to create stories around the theme of fairy tales… and that game jam is the Once Upon A Time VN Jam. It’s running from October 1st to January 31st.

Concours de Fiction Interactive Francophone 2025 is for all French-speaking enthusiasts. Submissions are accepted until March 3rd 2025.

Are you perhaps a fan of more somber, melancholic themes? Then check out the Dying Year - Visual Novel Jam! You have until the end of the year to participate.

The Black Visual Novel Jam is all about working with creative professional developers who work in visual novels to bring more Black stories to life. The goal is to create a space where Black creators can show their unique storytelling through visual novels.

Bare your teeth and sharpen your claws because the Monstrous Desires 2024 Visual Novel Jam is here! Dedicated to the love of entities, horrors, and monstrosities, this jam will be full of romantic Visual Novels (VN) that heavily focus on a monster may it be original or from classics, folklore, modern media, etc.

"So." Eijiro started as they both exited Y/n's apartment. 

Katsuki stayed silent while carrying the sleeping Kazui in his arms along with his things for school.

"She seems nice." Eijiro grinned. "And very helpful." He added as he clicked his car keys unlocking his car.

"Straight to the point," Katsuki mumbled carefully getting in the car.

"Well, you both look close to each other, especially after the news," Eijiro said getting in the driver's seat.

"The news is nothing. They're spouting lies. That's all they fucking do." Katsuki mumbled once again, trying not to wake Kazui.

He's not ready. Not yet. But he sees you fitting to be Kazui's mom knowing how close you were with his son. Of course, he knows him being a single father is fine, but he also knows Kazui will be looking for a mom. Now that he can see other kids being picked up by their mothers.

"What do you think will happen if she saw the news?" Starting the engine, Eijiro slowly drove off of the parking lot.

"The fuck do I care," Katsuki growled lowly. "For all I know she's fucking banging any other guy in every bar she goes to." 

He doesn't care.

He doesn't care that they're not officially divorced. He won't accept her back. Not after what she did. 

"Hey, that's not how you talk about your-

"She's not my fucking wife. Not ever." Katsuki scowled deepened, but soon disappear when he shifted his eyes to Kazui's peaceful face.

He'll do everything for his son. He'll risk his life if he has to just keep him safe.

"Okay, okay. Sorry." Eijiro apologizes.

"Kazui doesn't deserve to know her." 

..

After Eijiro dropped Katsuki at their home, he drove to a secluded area. 

His eyes were serious while he focuses on driving. No one knows he's here. Not even Katsuki.

Suddenly, he stopped in front of a dark alleyway and roll the passenger seat's window down. 

"Get in." He said.

When the person got in, Eijirou started driving once again. 

"You'd be surprised by my intel." 

"Tell me," Eijiro said quietly while his eyes focuses ahead.

"Didn't I say she's in the city?" 

"Yeah."

"Surprisingly. She got her own home."

Eijiro side glances at him after he what he heard. "We're you able to track her house?"

"Yes."

"Give it to me."

..

“Good morning, class.”

Friday finally arrive. That means tomorrow, Y/n can finally rest.

“Good morning, Miss Y/n.”

But deep inside Y/n, no matter how tiring her job is, she loves children. Maybe it's because of a quirk? Pft. Of course not. Was it? Seeing the children smile after she mends their booboos away makes her feel warm. So maybe it was indeed her quirk.

“Alright everybody, today we’ll do arts!” Miss Y/n smiled cheerfully.

A loud cheer of small voices engulfed the room.

“Be quiet everyone.” Miss Y/n spoke up clapping her hands to settle the children down. “Take out the art materials that I advised you to bring. If someone needs more art materials, come to my table, okay?”

“Yes, Miss Y/n!”

“Okay! Draw your favorite hero and you will show it to everyone.” Miss Y/n said.

She was about to make her way to her table when suddenly, a loud crash was heard from the other side of the room alerting Miss Y/n. The children began crying due to being frightened.

“Everyone, please evacuate the premises. Everyone, please evacuate immediately.”

Y/n’s eyes widen. What is an attack? No. This is not the right time to think about it. She needs to take the children outside. Then another loud crash was heard.

Then a laugh.

Terror and fright were getting ahead of her. She couldn't think straight. Seeing the children crying around her makes her heart clench.

Think.

Y/n let her eyes roam around her classroom. There must’ve been something she can use.

Think.

Her eyes suddenly focused on the windows. So without any reluctance, she rushed towards it opening it wide enough for the children to fit.

“Children. Come to teacher, we need to leave.” Miss Y/n said as gently as she could say. “Everything will be okay. The heroes will arrive. They will save us.”

One by one, she held the children and pass them through the classroom window with another teacher outside waiting for the children. But her eyes went wide when she was missing one.

Kazui.

“Kazui!” She shouted. “Where are you, come here, baby!”

“Miss Y/n. You need to get out!”

“No no! I’m missing one student.”

Y/n was now panicking. Her eyes were scanning the classroom repeatedly. He was nowhere.

“Kazui, baby!”

Then another crash was heard. But this time, it was the classroom door she was in.

She yelped in terror and surprise.

“Miss Y/n.”

Miss Y/n turned her head to her left. There she saw Kazui hiding under her table.

“Kazui!” Instantly she took him in her arms protecting him. “It's okay. Don't cry.” She needs to be strong for him. She needs to protect him. Y/n was frightened as he is but right at this moment, she was willing to give her life to protect Kazui.

“Isn't that the number 2 hero’s son? Well well, ain't I lucky?”

“Ugh. This is so boring!” Eijiro complained as he walk to the pavement with his buddy.

“That just means the crime rate was decreasing, idiot. Be glad.” Katsuki crosses his arms saying this.

“Oh yeah-

Their communicator suddenly started making a buzzing noise. Someone’s trying to communicate.

“Dynamight! The daycare from ***** is under attack!”

“Shit!!”

Not letting the person on the other line finish, Katsuki blasts his way to where the daycare.

Kazui was all he can think of. He can't lose him.

..

“Back off!” Y/n yelled at the villain while carrying the crying Kazui in her arms.

“Ya know. You can just show me where the money is. Every money in this establishment then will be all over. You’ll save the heroes from work.” the villain smirked.

“As if I’d tell you! Heroes will come here and they will arrest you!”

Where was this courage coming from?

“Suit yourself,” The villain suddenly launched itself into her but Y/n was quick to dodge and move away. Although, that movement made her catch her breath.

“Aha. You’re fast.” The villain smirked evilly as they slowly pull a knife out of where.

Y/n watches in fear. She doesn't know what to do.

“Oy? Where's that brave face you were wearing? Although I have to say, that look suits you more.” After what the villain said, they once again launched themselves at Y/n.

Y/n manages to run away though. Why hasn't she thought of running away before?

“Miss Y/n I’m scared!!” Kazui cried out loud.

“I know baby, but we’ll be safe. Your papa will protect us!” You said between breaths.

“Where do you think you're going, doll!?” The villain suddenly appeared behind her.

“Papa!” Kazui cried.

Her lungs felt like burning. She's starting to lack oxygen due to running. But she needs to keep both of them safe. She needs to protect Kazui.

All of a sudden she felt immense pain in her back and it made her slow down.

“Miss Y/n!!”

Was all she heard when she felt another. But this time, she knelt, still holding Kazui tightly in her arms.

You were now panting. Every breath you take hurts you.

“Miss Y/n, no!” Kazui was still crying. He slightly pulls himself away from you to look at you.

You were hurt.

“Miss Y/n heal yourself like what you did to Papa and Uncle Kiri!” Kazui cried as he held your face with his small hands.

“Not so tough now, aren't you?” the Villain sneered watching them. “If only you gave me what I want-

“You! Villain! Just wait until Papa came here!” Kazui cried staring angrily at the villain.

“So I was right. You are indeed the no. 2 son!” The villain laughed. “Where was he now though?”

Kazui was sobbing. He shifted his eyes back to you when you suddenly tried to stand up.

You were facing the villain now. You kept Kazui behind you as you stare at the villain. “I will n-never give you want you to want.” You manage to say.

“Come on now. Less the hassle. But eh. It's not like you can fight me. I can just end you right here.” With that, knives were thrown and stabbed right at your shoulder, stomach, and legs.

Everything hurts. Y/n couldn't believe her life will end like this. She always thought she’ll grow old and just die peacefully. Her thoughts are slowly slipping away. Her vision was darkening and her body was numb. She couldn't feel anything.

Y/n’s body just fell on the floor.

“Maybe I wouldn't mind touching you while this kid watches us, eh?”

“Don’t fucking touch my wife.”

I don’t have a specific question, but I do want to know more about it.

Well I can tell you some info and facts about the au, how I’m planning to develop it and all that !! It’s still fairly new and I did it out of nowhere at 3 am in the morning because I thought of my old ideas that I had years ago when undertale was on it’s prime but I was too young to bring ideas to life properly HAHAHA I hope my writing doesn’t bore you!

The au is pretty much founded on the idea of what if Sans also used to be a royal guard when he was younger? Boom. That’s where it spiralled and now I don’t know how revert back to who I was before because I ended up doodling a lot of undertale stuff along with the au, it didn’t help with the fact that my very good beloved friend kept encouraging me and feeding my inner demons of my undertale brainrot HAHAHA

I’m planning to develop the au into 2 parts: Before Undertale and after Undertale.

Before undertale is basically the events that happened before the plot of Undertale took place while after undertale is when they’re finally on the surface and the events that will happen on there! Sounds very generic and common I know, that’s why I’m going to try and develop it to be a bit different and hope that the au is not boring or developed horribly :’D It will take some time though since I know developing an au with a unique plot is gonna be very challenging, there are so many ways to mess it up and aghhh I really don’t wanna mess it up TT

Here are the main cast of the before undertale, this is a very OLD sketch that I made to figure out who’s there and how old they would be before I proceed to develop on the characters. So their heights might not be as accurate as it is in the sketch.

Also DISCLAIMER, Alphys and Undyne never met in before Undertale, so just know there’s no weird agenda going on here! They first met during Undertale plot when they’re both adults (Alphys 29, Undyne 23) so it’s all good!! I thought I needed to point that out because the age gap might seem alarming at first glance knowing they’re officially a couple 🙏 The before undertale plot begins at the age displayed on the sketch, and it ends after uhh.. 10 years? Yeah it’s ten years of events before the main undertale story starts!

I do want to portray the skele family with wholesome moments and you know, how great they are! Well that is before the downfall but we ain’t talking about that for now !! They’re just so beloved to me and I know they were such a sweet family AND WOULD HAVE VERY FUNNY MOMENTS IN WHICH I WANNA DRAW IT OUT!! So yeah, stay tuned for silly mini comics of them eheh

At first, I wanted Trickster (yes I’m calling his royal guard nickname, it’s like a whole different persona of his (alter ego???) where he’s energetic and acts very silly, whimsical, presenting puzzles and quizzes to his opponents sometimes but also can be very intimidating and prove that yeah, there’s a reason why he can be like that cuz it’s HIM) to be nothing more than a mischievous silly royal guard that wanted to keep causing trouble for Gaster but then it grew to be a bigger thing where he unintentionally became the symbol of hope and an entertainer for the whole underground before Trickster disappeared without a trace(?)

I’m still working on this whole concept so not everything is settled yet!! Well what I can also say about Trickster is that Alphys might be involved with the whole Trickster business too eheh

I’ve been practicing on drawing the characters so that I can draw better for this little au project of mine, I hope I can share my progress with you guys as things go on !!!

FAKE DATING A ROCKSTAR AU

Continuation art from my Renheng Week Day 4 prompt: Celebrity!

They first met during Summer Music fest, Ren notices a very cute fan in the crowd waving his red light stick.

Dan Heng may not look like it but he is a huge fan of the band Stellaron especially their lead singer Blade.

He simps the man so hard that he built a shrine in his room, rows upon rows of Blade wallpaper and photo cards even the limited edition merch and no he will not divulge the info on how much he spent on this things

He also runs a stan account, and has a huge following since he takes really good fan cams and candid shots and is updated on news about Blade.

The Stellaron band consists of

ren - Main vocals + Guitar

Firefly - keyboard

Kafka - Bass

Silver wolf - Drummer

Elio - Manager

Everyone loves Blade’s deep husky voice, Kafka also calls their fans destiny slaves. Blade doesn't like to be interviewed so whenever they do he just stay silent he is a private person after all and hates it when the media pries into his personal affairs so he lets kafka does all the talking while SW is in charge of their social media.

Stelle is friends with Kafka. Both March and Stelle know DH is obsessed with Blade, he is Blade’s number one fan and biggest simp.

So Stelle gives him front row VIP tickets for each concert he plans to attend (before, he was always just somewhere in the masses) and stelle and march accompanies him for those concerts to support Kafka.

Blade notices the guy who always looks like he hates every second of this and would rather be at home and assumes that he’s just there because of his friends. Since he recognizes Stelle as Kafka’s friend, it’s easy to get in contact with DH to ask him for a favor.

The favor is to be his fake boyfriend so that the media won't pester him and he won't get caught up in dating rumors, he is sick and tired of them. DH asks why he chose him of all people,

Blade tells him it is because he thinks that DH hates him and doesn't want anything to do with him so it's perfect as they wont have the risk of falling for each other. (oh but blade already did the moment he saw DH and his resting bitch face)

When news got out of Blade’s boyfriend at first they were trying to hide his identity as per DH request since he likes his privacy thank you very much and he knows how fans can get crazy over this news.

He only appears in social media post in stellaron hunters official account like his back or side,Blade and him holding hands or the “candid photo” of them being affectionate but its all staged,

but fans see how soft blade is with his boyfriend (based on the photos) plus how he starts talking when asked about the boyfriend in interviews stellaron and blade fans call it his gap moe.

I’d imagine that DH is the type to show as little emotion as possible while feeling A LOT on the inside, so he’s keeping his resting bitchface around Blade for months while they are fake dating, all while freaking out on the inside because he gets to spend time with his idol (who later becomes his crush, once he gets to know him personally).

The only reaction Blade gets out of him is when they banter, which is when DH smiles ever so slightly, and Blade makes it his mission to get him to smile more often, falling hard in the process.

It takes Blade a long time to realize DH is actually a fan since for the longest time he thought DH was his number one hater not his biggest fan, and even longer until he finds out that DH has developed romantic feelings during their fake dating.

One time dh got jealous because of a hoard of fan girls and boys. Ren was surrounded and tbh Ren wants to escape but he can't so dh takes it up on himself and lays claim on his man (fake dating) so he kisses him in front of them and declares that blade is his.

He pulls blade away cuz everyone was stunned (even blade) so that's the infamous boyfriend that everyone is talking about.

Dh apologized afterwards for doing that suddenly but blade just says they need more practice if they need to really sell this relationship of theirs and so they practice.

The next day it was trending all over the net since blade’s mysterious bf is always not shown fully but he is always there with blade backstage since according to blade he is shy and doesn't like media attention which is true but now his identity is out in the open

Blade finds out DH being a simp because of a limited edition photocard like only 5 exist in the world slips out of dh pocket (cuz he just fought tooth and nail for it in an auction and has just came back from claiming the item)

Before this, DH always came up with excuses as to why they couldn’t hang out at his place because he didn’t want Blade to see his merch collection.

While possessing some merch is completely normal, DH is very much aware that his collection (and the Blade shrine) are excessive and could creep Blade out, even if he tried to explain that his simping was strictly fan-idol type (that is, before he got to know him personally, but Blade doesn’t need to know that this changed)

When blade hangs out on dh home to get away from the fans dh he was confused on why dh wont let him in his room his excuse, Its messy so he’ll clean up said mess is blade shrine, merch, dakimakura etc.

Dh: *panic mode* *cleans in the speed of light* okay you can come in now

Blade: ???? Your room....is very minimalist *stares at the closet with lock and key*

Dh: don't mind that it has a very loose lock

Blade: i can fix it for y-

Dh: NO DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH THAT *gives him the death glare* *looks away* i just dont want to clean up again since it'll all spill out

Blade is surprised that DH isn’t using pillow and duvet covers, DH has to lie that he only has one pair that’s currently in the laundry(once he finds out about that he gets jealous of the pillow)

Dh be sweating bullets the whole time

DH: "(Oh my gooood how long will blade stay here, go home already 💢💢💢“Go home so I can cuddle your dakimakura”)

(If Blade knew about this, he would wish that this was him)

He doesn't know how long it'll hold since he knows he has tons of merch by the time blade does get out of the room, that's when the lock bursts. Dh almost fainted his idol and fake boyfriend finding out his biggest secret but he does find out later which is what his situation is right now

Blade does see the shrine and isn't freaked out about it in fact he is quite happy, he will also see the dakimakura

He will also throw the pillow away like why cuddle the pillow when you have the real authentic one right beside you.

DH: The pillow is soft, you aren’t

(Blade ends up convincing him with the power of his tiddies)

When they are on tour DH has trouble falling asleep and the dakimakura’s ain't enough now

According to DH, blade ruined him cuz he cant fall asleep now without blade right beside him.

During the tour Blade misses DH and realized he wants to be with him 24/7 so after he got back from their tour he asked DH to be his real boyfriend and ofc DH agreed.

Okay so I saw that @foxy-alien made art of a TLT house swap AU and it started me thinking about how I’d do a similar AU… I did that instead of sleeping last night btw.

So here’s what I have so far:

Ninth House: Ianthe, Corona and Babs. Once upon a time a woman and a baby fell on their planet. When they saw the woman’s red hair they thought “ugh what Third House bullshit is this” and while they kept the corpse, they sent the baby back. We don’t want this keep your trash. They have their own drama to deal with anyway; the tomb needs its keeper to be a necromancer. Corona, while officially the heir and Reverent Daughter, is not one. Ianthe and her started hiding her lack of talent before their parents explained the whole “unbroken chain of the tomb keeper’s necromantic bloodline” thing. So long as Ianthe is around, the twins expect that everything is still fine. Still, their house hovers on the edge of breaking a promise of ten thousand years once their parents die and Corona inherits the duties of the tomb… unless they find a way to make Corona a necromancer, either by turning her into a lyctor, by making Ianthe a lyctor and then Ianthe makes her necromantic (?), or they just straight up ask Jod for a boon.

Eight House: Abigail and Magnus. Everyone is surprised when they meet them, as they do not meet the traditional pattern of their house; especially when you know the fact that Abigail’s cavalier was supposed to be a cousin but was replaced by Magnus when he married Abigail — their blood type was, luckily (or unluckily?) compatible. Like, who the fuck would want to be an Eight House cavalier??? (Magnus would. He think going into the river is exciting. He also trusts his wife.) It’s usually only when Abigail starts actually doing necromancy that people remember she’s scary AF. Through her interest in ghosts, she has developed her own custom safeguards against Magnus getting possessed when she siphons him… or if he does get possessed, she is a quick and extremely brutal exorcist.

Seventh House: Palamedes and Camilla. Pal decided on his medicine focus due to his house’s propensity for weird necromantic cancer. He firmly believes that if he can just find a way to either stabilize or treat it, the inhabitants of the seventh house will live more comfortable lives. He is considered something of an heretic due to this, but house leadership is willing to ‘let him cook’ -> they’ll wait to see if a necromancer with a stable cancer is still powerful before they decide whether to censure his research or not.

Sixth House: Jeannemary and Isaac. They’re still young, but very good at getting into places they’re not supposed to be, particularly by breaking wards and then rebuilding them better. Both of them keep trying to apply into the cohort but the scholars of the Sixth see Isaac’s skills with wards and want him to pursue academia instead. When the summons to Canaan House came the council all looked at each other, remembered they still had to appoint a new master warden after the last one passed, figured that nobody wanted to abandon their current study/experiments to go participate to what would be sure to be a tedious dick measuring contest with the other house heirs, and decided to invoke an obscure emergency clause in a law book somewhere in order to appoint Isaac to the title. He and Jeannemary really were the only ones who actually wanted to go to Canaan.

Fifth House: Dulcinea and Protesilaus. It is a shame that her health is so poor, because she would otherwise have become a hell of an ruler. While she has an ease with history and academia, her true skill is diplomacy. Dulcinea can get a very accurate read on most people, and she knows how to use their own psychology against them to make them agree to her ideas. She looks nice and fragile, but she is cunning. Meanwhile, Protesilaus is surprisingly good at paperwork for a guy who looks like he eats skulls for breakfast.

Fourth House: Judith and Martha. This AU version of them is less cocksure, but just as proficient at gathering information, profiling people, and writing down ample notes. Their rank in the cohort is lower than in canon, and they often get assigned to the tasks nobody else wants. Such as: overseeing security on ships bringing prisoners to the Ninth House prison installation… and this is how Judith and Corona met.

Third House: Harrow and Gideon. Once upon a time, the Ninth House sent them an orphan they claimed was theirs. The King and Queen didn’t pay the mystery much mind and stuck the baby in an orphanage. They had their own troubles to deal with: the royal family had not been able to produce a necromantic heir yet, and the vassal families were closing in. They figured that they couldn’t let a lesser branch of the family inherit the Third; it had never been done, would discredit them in the eyes of the other Houses, and would cause political instability. So in order to ensure the necromantic potential of their latest vat baby experiment, the King and Queen sacrificed the children in one of the lesser orphanages. They claimed that an hull breach in the space station caused the poisonous air of the planet’s upper atmosphere to get inside the ventilation system… except there was one survivor. The King and Queen were weirded out by that seemingly unkillable toddler but public opinion was heavily positive towards the ‘miracle survivor’. Not to mention having at least one person survive the incident helps make the ‘it was an accident’ excuse sound more credible. So the King and Queen brought the child to the palace and decided to do some PR by giving her a place to live and an education, and eventually made her the Cavalier of their (powerful) new daughter.

Second House: Silas and Column. Duty-bound, fanatic, no fun allowed Silas is a bit young for military service, but that doesn’t stop him from climbing the ranks. Column is still used as a battery, even in this AU, except his role is to start killing people to produce the initial necromantic boom to give Silas something to work with when they deploy to new battlefields. He hates doing this btw.

How Ursa and Ozai met and divorced (and Ozais side of things post divorce)

Ozai was in a completely different major to Ursa the fact they even saw each other in the cafe was a rare occurrence but Ursa caught Ozais eye

Being the kind of guy he is he would linger and watch her because he is cooked in terms of romance

Ursa made the first approach

Seeing Ozai and Ursa interact made Ikem uneasy because of the weird energy Ozai had but he let it slide after Ursa reassured him Ozai was normal (WATCH OUT IKEM HES MR STEAL UR GIRL)

Eventually, it came down to Ozai and Ursa becoming closer and Ozai finally growing some balls and asking her out (“Go out with me” “what”)

Since Ikem and Ursa still weren’t official but they had something Ursa asked Ozai to give her time and she chose to distance herself from Ikem and go out with Ozai ( NOOOOO URSA RUN)

it eventually became an official relationship with the whole meeting parents and family fun stuff (Ursa's family thought Ozai was ominous asf but they accepted their daughter's choices with a couple of complaints)

Ursa and Ozai's years before kids were pretty good until after they got married and Azulon started to pressure Ozai into his business (politics or whatever y’all want it to be) and the pressure to have kids

Ursa could see the way it was affecting Ozai but she made no comment because Ozai was impossible to get to talk about his emotions

When they finally had Zuko it changed them both Ursa looked at Zuko with love; Ozai looked at him looking for potential (despite the fact Ozai told Ursa he wouldn't be like his father)

On Ozai's part his mental health was lowkey in the gutter (but he never acknowledged that mental health is for losers not alphas like him) and he continued to compete for Azulons position in the company with Iroh

Iroh could give less of a shit btw he’s chilling with his kid

Ozai picked up smoking/vaping but he never did it in front of Ursa because he knew she would throw a hissy fit (in his eyes)

If anything by now Ozai and Ursa were drifting but Ursa decided to have another kid to see if that would bring them together and they could be a happy family

So when Zuko was 2 they had Azula and Zuko loved his new baby sister. As the kids grew up Ozai put pressure on them regarding school, martial arts, etc…

This made them grow distant and Ursa was becoming nervous because not only were her kids constantly fighting but her husband encouraged it

She tried to give Zuko as much love as she could to combat the harsh words he would get from Ozai and Azula, but in doing that she was losing Azula

She realized the source of the issue was Azulon and Ozai. She considered maybe killing Azulon but nowadays there’s forensic science so she just filed for divorce in hopes her kids can grow up without having Ozais influence

Ozai was sure she was divorcing him because she was cheating on him with Ikem. He signed the papers but the days leading up to the divorce were him arguing and trying to make her more miserable as ���revenge”

Azula was angry with Ursa because she thought she was trying to take her away from her dad and she would ignore Ursa and latch onto Ozai (Zuko would latch onto Ursa but he was still hurt that they were going to leave Ozai because that's still his dad)

When they finally divorced Ursa took her kids to live in her parent's home and Ozai would drunkenly call her yelling abt how she’s Ikem's bitch and this and that

Eventually, things calmed down as time passed and Ursa was able to kindle some sort of relationship with Azula but Zuko was a mommas boy through and through

OH I FORGOT the whole Azulon dying thing doesn't really happen bro just dies of like falling down some stairs without his cane IDK LMAOOO and Iroh recently lost Lu Ten to a car crash so he just gave Ozai the company

Ozai's side of things post divorce

Ozai continued to live in the original families house but he would pick up Zuko and Azula on weekends.

He fought for weekend custody because like hell was Ursa gonna strip him of his company heirs

His nicotine habits worsened but when the kids came he would only smoke in the car (nicotine patches inside the home)

He continued to nurture the rivalry between his kids and let them do whatever they wanted as long as they didn't burn down the house (unlimited access to everything i wonder how bad that could go)

By the time the kids reached their tween/teen years Ozai just stopped picking them up as much; Zuko would feel so much relief when Ozai would call saying he was busy that weekend (also disappointment he wanted to prove himself to daddy dearest)

Zuko gaining his scar from Ozai was more of a Ozai going into a angry fit from being talked back to while he was by a source of fire (idk a candle i rlly dont know how a hand print would appear without magic fire powers)

When Ursa found out she immediately reported Ozai to CPS but as usual CPS lets Ozai off because he is a successful man (hush money...)

Ozai isn't allowed to have either kids over at his house because Ursa does not trust him in the slightest, but Azula still asks Ozai to pick her up for the weekends (she argues with her mom on this because in her eyes Ursa is trying to isolate her)

He stays awake at night wondering what he could’ve done better but then argues with himself that he was the best Ursa was ever gonna get (pov when your insecure but full of yourself at the same time)

I have nothing more to say sooo YEA sorry if its not like peak writing but ive never written a fic i just pace around my room and half of this stuff was made up on the spot

going on a deepdive into 3DS/DS purikura games

I saw this image on a tumblr post and I wanted to look for the original source (so I could properly credit the person and to find out what game it was):

I couldn't find the original, however, I did find this yahoo ask asking what game it was.

The person answering seemed to think it was a hello kitty game, likely because of the hello kitty sticker used to cover the face of the person taking the selfie, but it's clearly one that was added after the photo of the DS was taken, it's not a sticker that exists within that software.

As you can see here, it seems to be a piece of hello kitty fanart- it's not official art, and therefore not featured in the game. This helps with my search a bit.

Also, I believe this is a 3DS title, not a DSI/DS one like the person above suggested- the "select" button in the home menu is the same as the o3DSXL's. This suggests this game was published BEFORE the n3DS series was released.

I remembered playing a game in the past called "Sanrio Picross" that had some purikura elements, however, that game doesn't allow you to edit photographs, and upon looking at them side by side, the UI is completely different.

I googled "3DS purikura game" (purikura being the Japanese word for photo booth) and the only result was "Sparkle Snapshots." From what I could see, the 3DS title didn't have UI that matched either. I decided to look up the DSI game as a last ditch effort into this line of thinking and I didn't find anything.

I did find a screenshot of the title screen on khinsider VGM and the title song goes HARD.

It doesn't seem like this is a purikura game, (or at least not solely), so my research must continue. The next thing I looked into was the UI. I know some Japanese, not very much, but enough to read some basic katakana.

Under the X button it says "Zoom." The L button seems to say "Erase Button."

And it seems that R and A also say "Erase Button." Start obviously says "Menu" It seems like this is a very basic game.

For the bottom screen, it was taken at an angle and it contains some Kanji, so I put it through some photo editing to make it easier to read.

Typing that into google translate I got "Saved! Do you continue doodle?" (and then obviously yes/no)

The phrasing of doodle is interesting. This implies it could be an art program, like the yahoo commenter suggested earlier.

Searching up 3DS art programs doesn't really help me, and coloring games doesn't work either...

My last resort is to go through every 3DS game released in japan, (since we already have a copy of every game ever released for the 3DS online...) However, before I do that, I'm going to look for this image some more.

I found it running rampant on pinterest...

No one else seems to know what it is either LOL.

However, the version on pinterest is significantly higher quality!

Next step, finding more games. I simply need to try to find MORE games. Because I know what the UI looks like, it shouldn't be too hard.

I'll run this search again and just scroll till I see a new lead...

Oh, that was quick!

I found a series called "minna no" which seems to be similar to the "imagine" series in the US- just kind of children's shovelware that never got translated to english.

I ran a search for みんなの (Minna no) on google and...

Huh that sounds familiar... oh my god.

OH MY GOD.

It'S THE SAME FUCKING GAME THE GUY FROM EARLIER WAS TALKING ABOUT. The one I dismissed entirely because it was a DSi title and the game's UI wasn't DSi? It was a 3DS title.

The best part about all of this... the best part about all of this... the UI doesn't even match at all. I went full circle and just accidentally proved this guy completely wrong.

I checked the rest of the minna no games, and yup, no dice. It's some other title.

Next up, I looked at Girls RPG Cinderella Life, mostly because it kept coming up over and over during my research- and holy shit their website is adorable.

Their website is an accessibility nightmare, but it's absolutely adorable. If you are into web design at all, I'd recommend checking it out.

While trying to find more images I found out the game was in this pretty holographic packaging. God I'm jealous. More games should do this.

Either way I can't seem to find any images on this, so it's going on the list of possible candidates. And While looking up this game, I found more under the same artstyle that also might be culprits.

While trying to find more information, I realized how many of these games there are. And also how many of them I have played in the past, lol.

I've been a big fan of Style Savvy (AKA Girls Mode) and I've tried out Girls Fashion Shoot, which was an english translation from a different game series about becoming a model.

Yet another knocked off the list!

By extension, the second game is also knocked off the list.

Another model game- this one called Neco*Petit Girls Runway. Another dud, but also very cute.

Pretty Rhythm series seemed to have a camera function but it didn't line up with the UI shown in the screen either.

If anyone has any more ideas or lists of games, please tell me below! I need to take a break from researching this, and I'll need to play some of that JS model game from earlier, since I doubt anyone has used the photo function during a youtube Let's Play, but based on the UI, I sincerely doubt that it's the one we are looking for.

Dinner at the New York Sanctum was always fun. You enjoyed being in the presence of its occupants dearly.

Being the girlfriend of Doctor Stephen Strange wasn’t always easy, but it was moments like these that made it all worth it.

You sat next to Stephen, while Wong and America sat on the other side of the table.

But America was the only one not touching her food, which was odd because the girl was always hungry.

She seemed to be deep in thought about something, and you weren’t the only one who noticed.

“What’s on your mind, kid?” Strange asked, looking up at her with a curious glint in his eyes.

America jumped, seemingly caught off guard, looking at him with wide eyes. She shook her head, looking back down at her plate as she mindlessly played with her food.

“It’s nothing. It’s stupid, really…” She sighed, refusing to look up at anyone.

Wong swallowed the food that was in his mouth and looked over at her.

“Nothing you say will ever be stupid, America.” He said calmly.

“Yeah, there’s nothing you could ever do to make us think you’re stupid!” You chimed in, and she looked up at you.

She took these words in and lulled them over in her head before looking between you and Stephen.

“How do you…know you like someone…?” She suddenly asked, voice quiet and meek.

“Like someone? Like…’like’ like someone?” You asked, brows raised. She didn’t say anything, and just sunk down in her seat while shaking her head.

“How did you guys know you liked each other…?” She piped up, looking between the two of you again.

“Well…” Stephen started.

“It was something that happened over time…but it was also kind of instant? I’d known of Stephen for quite a while before we officially met.” You attempted to explain.

“Well, how did the two of you meet?” America questioned.

“Remember during the fight with Gargantos, when that photographer almost got crushed by a car?” Stephen said.

“That was you?!” America asked you incredulously. Stephen chuckled as your face turned a bright red.

“Well…Yes. My boss would have killed me if I didn’t get coverage of the event…” You said shyly, brushing a piece of hair from your face out of habit.

“We ended up meeting at a bar not too far down the street—and it was completely by chance—he spotted me from across the room and we started talking. We just sort of…clicked, I guess you could say. We ended up getting kind of drunk and he walked me home…”You explained, a small smile creeping up your lips.

“And you don’t need to know the rest.” Stephen concluded. America looked at him confused, before she looked between you two and got the idea.

“Gross!” She cringed, and everyone at the table started laughing.

“What about you, Wong?” America turned her attention to the quiet man.

“Me? What makes you think I have any knowledge about that?” He feigned ignorance, taking a long sip from his cup.

“You know…Master Wolfe?” She prodded.

“My relationship with the late master was strictly professional.” Wong stated firmly.

“That’s odd, I’m sure I caught the two of you sharing a kiss in the broom closet—“

“Okay! Okay. You don’t have to air out all of my secrets, Strange.”

Stephen laughed at his friend’s embarrassment. But Wong’s face didn’t falter, he remained stoic and professional.

“It started out as a mutual friendship. We would agree on many things and had parallel opinions on the Mystic Arts. But there was a moment where I saw her in a new light. She was this…Amazing woman with such wonderful talent in the Mystic Arts. She was funny, and amazing at keeping conversation. Things just…Clicked, like Y/n said.”

“Is…there a reason you’re asking, America?” You ask, scanning her face once again.

Suddenly her eyes widened, and she sunk back into her chair with a growing red face.

“You asked us, you can at least tell us why you’re asking.” Wong chuckled, noticing her embarrassment.

“Okay, so maybe there’s…This girl…” America said after a few minutes of silence.

“When did you meet her?” Stephen inquired, his interest piqued.

“A couple weeks ago…We met at the park while she was drawing. I thought her art was really cool and so I told her and we started talking…And now she wants to meet up at this pizza place nearby and I just have this weird feeling in my stomach? Like, I don’t know how to describe it but it’s just weird and I don’t know what it means.” She explained, refusing to look at anyone.

“That’s called a crush, America. It’s totally normal. I felt the same when I first met Stephen.” You said with a smile, and she finally looked up at you.

Stephen had this odd look on his face. It wasn’t anger or confusion, but it was an odd sort of happiness that you definitely noticed.

“Stephen…? You okay…?” You asked suspiciously, finding his hand under the table as you take it in your own.

“Oh, yeah. I’m fine. It’s just…You’re growing up so fast. You’ve improved so much since we first met and I’m proud of you. It’s good to see you getting comfortable in this universe, and allowing yourself to be vulnerable.” He explained, giving your hand a soft squeeze.

America smiled, looking at Stephen with a sense of belonging.

This was her found family, and she wouldn’t trade this for the world. She looked up to Stephen like he was the father she never had. She liked it in this universe, and she will do anything to protect it.

HeatTagshipping and Conway fans out there!!!! Look what I just found!!!!

Okay. So a couple of days ago I went to the new bookshop that had just opened in my town and came across this huge Pokemon Encyclopedia hidden amongst a lot of art and crafts books and picked it up out of sheer curiosity, without many expectations. It was really complete, covering almost every season of the anime, yet it focused mainly on Ash journey, as to be expected. Still, I decided to check the Sinnoh League chapters... And oooooohhh boy, DID I FOUND SOMETHING!! 💗💗💗

Now, can you people even begin to imagine the hype, the raw emotion I felt when I saw that not only there was a full section covering Hearthome City Tag Battle Ark but that it also included a small yet beautiful paragraph revolving one of my all-time favourite Pokemon characters?

Okay. So not only the author is stating that Conway IS NOT a stalker, but rather a kinda social incompetent guy (Seriously, what's up with some people? I admit he's meant to be portrayed as some sort of weird, mysterious, slightly creepy character but a STALKER??!! Then how should we qualify Team Rocket who has been following Ash around how many regions already!?). They've also outrightly stated that he was a GREAT PARTNER for Dawn. Their words, not mine!!!! 😍😍😍😍

All right, perhaps most of you are currently thinking that this is not that much of a big deal, but given the fact that there is only a very few people out there who actually care about this character (I'm not even talking about a possible romantic dynamic between him and Dawn; even though that I do ship them romantically, I would have also been fine if the series had fueled their relationship in a more platonic way), the fact that I was able to find some Conway appreciation crumbs within an official Pokemon book (at least I think it's official) means a whole awful lot to me.

Also, I know that the photo doesn't show it but do you remember how Brock's partner Holly, despite not being initially interested in him, ended up developing some sort of romantic slash deep admiration feelings towards him? Well, I can assure you her paragraph did NOT have not even half the amount of praise they gave to Conway.

Long story short, I've got a new headcanon now. Until someone can prove me wrong I'm going to assume the author of this book is an undercover HeatTagshipping fan, or at least a secret Conway fan.

Niche Dragalia Animation!

So, as we all know, Dragalia didn't exactly use many animations. Sure, they did a bit of it for promotional videos, and a bit more with playing around with models or artwork in story cutscenes, etc, but for the actual sort of 'TV animations' you'd see, it, was, uh, almost nonexistent.

Closest we got was having a few wyrmprints drawn by ufotable, the animation company, to give us a hint of what a Dragalia animation might look in their style. They drew Dragon Brethren, Worthy Rivals, To the Extreme!, and Levin's Champion.

But! Completely forgotten by me, I happened to find this little gem again, after catching snippets another was using that I had absolutely no idea where it came from! I was at my wits' end trying to figure out where it had originated from, since it certainly looked official instead of a fan project, even searching through the JP youtube channel for Dragalia, etc, to no avail. I was preparing a whole tumblr post that was essentially a call for help to see if anyone else had any earthly idea where this came from, it was that bad.

And then, in Notte's wise words, BOOM, there it was!

Turns out the video hints I saw someone else using were from the small movie they played at the very very end of chapter 6, after Euden's announcement of New Alberia, all that. Did you guys forget this as thoroughly as I had?

I'm guessing I totally forgot it because chapter 6 was the last chapter released with the game at launch, so I played it in the first few days/weeks, and never saw it again. And since they never used it in any other sort of promotional media, I completely blanked on it. Whatever the case, I hope someone else enjoys the glimpse of Dragalia, animated, as I did!

(Gotta say though, Phares, I know it's dark and shadows of candlelight and all that but you should go to bed before you trip over the umpteen candles in the room and start a fire, bud)

Also, I love how dragons in Dragalia were generally seemed to be a 'human and a half to 2x' sized, or even smaller for the really humanoid ones and the baby dragons, except when they inexplicably made them absolutely massive to look cool. Think Midgardsormr in the download movie and Mars in this animation!

...Honestly I wonder if this was ufotable that animated this? Who knows?

In any case, there's another episode of niche (or what I think might be) Dragalia art!

My obsession with The Lonely Planet The TRUE Story.

A story that I wanted to tell my friend, @theallseeingspacegoods and maybe all of you guys out there will find this entertaining too.  It all started back in the summer of 2014. 

I remembered being so hyped for the new Wander Over Yonder episodes premiering in June. Plus, I even remember the adorable artwork that fellow WOY blogger, @wanderin-over-yonder made for the new episodes that were going to air that summer. I fell in love with the amazing drawings she created for them: The Nice Guy\The Time Bomb, The Tourist, The Day\The Night. But there was one picture I couldn’t get enough of. Surely enough, this drawing would lead to me becoming obsessed with the newest episode of Wander, scheduled to release on June 17th, 2014 and that was…

The Lonely Planet.

Seriously, the second this picture showed up onto the social media page, I instantly became excited to watch this particular episode. In fact, the official synopsis of it got me more excited: “A lonely, sentient planet named Janet becomes obsessed with Wander and wants to keep him all to herself.” 

Not to mention, during the end credits of The Night, we got our first look at Janet, thanks to a little WOY Disney XD promo song, singing about all the places Wander has traveled and Janet was one of them. Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to watch this episode when it aired. When the day finally arrived, I never been so pumped in my entire life. 

The Lonely Planet\The Brainstorm aired on June 17th, 2014. (A date that would remain with me forever.), I watched both of them and I loved them. After they were over, I remember drawing a picture of Wander captured by Janet for the first time in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro:

Little did I know that this obsession I was having with this episode was about to become a whole lot bigger…

Flash forward to June 18th, 2014, I was looking on Google, trying to find screenshots of The Lonely Planet, then I discovered this screenshot of Wander all frightened when Janet’s plant vines were reaching towards him. It suddenly lead me to this RP blog called janet the planet. The moment I encountered it, there was NO going back! I became obsessed with the old RP blog and went on it every chance I got. In fact, if it wasn’t for this RP blog, I never would have had discovered the new world of Tumblr and encountered the amazing people in the WOY community. But other then discovering a new website, I was completely obsessed with The Lonely Planet, Janet herself, her obsession with Wander and I was ready to draw just about ALL the fan art I could have of them! 

As my final years in middle school began back in August, there was no doubt my obsession with Janet and Wander was in full swing, so much so, that I drew my first drawings with the characters, (in the form of 2D redraws):

Middle school also lead to me drawing conversations of Wander and Janet. I’ll tell you guys, I drew a LOT of conversations between the characters, and I literally mean A LOT!! Basically, I drew and drew tons and tons of fan art of Wander and Janet together. I didn’t quite know that I was making them a couple…. 

But aside from middle school, high school was where my Lonely Planet drawing skyrocketed as I drew Wander visiting Janet and the planet literally keeps Wander trapped forever on her planet, she keeps him trapped throughout Monday and Thursday, but on Friday’s she would let him go and enjoy his weekend, only to get trapped once again the next week and the cycle starts all over again. 

In fact, during the breaks and holidays, Janet tries her extra hardest to keep Wander with her at ALL times by any means necessary. Because during this time, I kinda made Maurice explore the galaxy on his own but he always return to Janet to tell her about the amazing sights he saw. I dunno, I guess I was just so obsessed with Janet and Wander, I kinda forgot about Maurice. But I draw him with Janet a bunch nowadays. 

As for my digital art of the characters, I drew them NON-STOP! One of my favorite drawings to draw was the screenshot of Janet vowing that she and Wander are together forever until the end of time:

Plus, I been drawing this redraw for a long time now.

Another thing about my obsession with this episode is that it introduced me to the “obsessed fangirl” and “Yanderes” topics. (Yes I know, no shocker there.) I found myself becoming obsessed with different obsessive characters from various movies and TV shows, pretty much everything I knew about these characters, I became obsessed. NTM, I can literally recite The Lonely Planet, the ENTIRE EPISODE by heart! Plus, I can do a spot-on Janet impression as well. 

I dunno what was it about this episode I became absolutely obsessed with and the obsession still continues to this very day, minus the fact, I’ve been trying to post about it less now because when I joined Tumblr in 2019, I talked about The Lonely Planet LITERALLY 24.7. I told other Wander fans about my obsession with it too, even to the point I asked them to draw fanart for me of it…it lead to something shocking during March of this year, but I won’t get into any details about it. (Besides, I can’t stand to lose any more friendships like I’ve already had.) 

To make a long story short, The Lonely Planet is my favorite episode of Wander Over Yonder. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of other episodes out there that are amazing and I love them too. But this one will always have a special place in my heart!

Journal Entry #55: Updates on my novel and also my life

So, the blurrg sex scene probably isn’t integral to the main thread of my novel. But, I’m hesitant to cut it because I think it would be kriffing hilarious to tell people there’s a sex scene in my story, only for them to find out two-thirds of the way in that it’s just two blurrgs blurrging it on.

Also, the fact that I witnessed it with my own two eyes on Ryloth means I have to share the trauma.

So! I’ve spoiled the ending for you! You don’t even need to read it!!

Did I write this post mainly because I didn’t know how else to announce my breakup? Maybe. Possibly.

Well—anyway.

I thought writing a novel about my own life would be easy because I didn’t actually have to come up with the plot, but—there is actually an art to arranging the details in a way that flows and makes sense. So, even though I’m like 80% done with my first draft already…I know it’s kind of garbage at this point, and I’ll have to do quite a bit of polishing.

Luckily, I will have lots of time to do that! Because…I finally admitted to my mom about Snoke Part Two: The Snokening, and—as expected—she is making me quit my job and move back home immediately!!

And normally that would leave Poe paying 2,000 credits of monthly rent on his own, but in the interests of expediting my homecoming, my mom is graciously paying the difference until Poe can find another roommate.

Luckily, I know a guy. He threatened to kill me in the back of a Spacebucks once, but, eh—water under the bridge.

And speaking of ol’ stick-up-his-butt…

…I ended up paying back Armitage for all my “free” coffees.

Yeah. The Force made me do it—or something. Call it an early Life Day miracle.

I’ve been rethinking a lot, let’s just say that. I knew I could part with the credits, since I won’t be paying rent for the foreseeable future, and I’m gonna look for a new job on Hosnian Prime.

Ha. Armitage, Poe and Beebee-Ate. Now, I can see them all getting along reeaal well. Heh heh heh.

Sigh. I’m gonna miss Naboo, and miss Theed. I’ve spent the past three years of my life here.

…I miss Fannie too. I wish I hadn’t…well…yeah.

I’ll even miss Poe and Beebee-Ate. I’m leaving right as they were beginning to grow on me. Poe’s been a good buddy (even if I’ve seen his bare ass more times than I ever wanted to).

About the only thing I won’t miss is my job—but even then, it was part of my routine, something that made my days predictable in the bad way but also kind of in the good way, and it was a key part of my new life as an official grown-up adult-person-guy.

I’m gonna hang out with my old college bud Treeso one last time before I leave Naboo. And then I’m gonna put in my two weeks’ notice, pack up my stuff, try to sell whatever I can’t take home, and then…that’ll be that, I guess.

Goodbye, Naboo.

I feel like everything in my life is changing all at once. It’s…kind of sad.

But…that’s just how it goes. Isn’t it?

“Always in motion, is the future,” Fannie said, when we were breaking up.

“What?”

“The future. It’s always in motion.”

“Well, yeah—but why’d you say it backwards, the first time?”

“I don’t know,” she said, surprised, like she’d never thought about it before. “That’s just always the way Master Luke said it.”

…It’s okay. Fannie and I aren’t a thing anymore anyway, so…

My twenty-fourth birthday is in a couple of weeks. I was originally gonna do something for it, ‘cause I have ongoing December-birthday-overshadowed-by-Life-Day trauma—but…meh. I’m too busy now to celebrate. Twenty-four’s pretty much the same thing as twenty-three anyway.

Hey—sorry I haven’t written as much, the past month. (Well, I’ve been writing a lot—just, not for my blog.) But…I’ll try to keep you guys updated on my move, and whatever. Happy to answer any questions about my writing project, too.

Oh—but do me a favor and don’t…ask Fannie about my trip to Ryloth, or anything. Some…stuff happened while I was there—I mean, besides the breakup—and…well, I think it’s just best if you don’t ask. I’m not sure it’s something she’d like to talk about.

Anyway. I really like your art...Do you have studying habits for practicing styles or drawing overall you recommend?? I have never not freehanded drawing (or studied in general) and I've no clue wear to start in changing that 😔

All I can suggest, what I did, was look at other peoples art, tracing over them, making guides for the styles I admired, using references of 3D models and using apps like Google or Pinterest for tutorials/style guides! An art style takes awhile to develop but know it'll change as you progress and you'll never stop learning something new.

Don't be afraid to copy other peoples art styles or parts to combine them into your own! Same for tracing or applying 3D models to your art studying in private.

If you're specifically looking for a style, search up the category. Official artworks also help too!

I myself also haven't studied any art forms like anatomy as much as just referencing the art of others. Dont be like me tho, learn basic anatomy by the least. Trust me, it helps a ton! :D

An online friend sent me this video on Nov 10, and I immediately started taking notes on it, lol.

There is nothing better/worse than a white dude learning about arnis and getting So Fascinated by it. Thank the gods that he has a Filipino friend.

The first few minutes are generally a solid if brief history: Eskrima/kalis/arnis started as a commoner’s art with no official “system,” aside from being practical, deadly, and using a variety of weapons.

Spain came around and forbid blade usage, hence the transition into the now-famous sticks. Speaking of which, Filipinos killed Magellan using the bladed version of eskrima. Like… A LOT of Filipinos. Magellan and 49 Spaniards just rolled up to a full army of 1,500 natives and assumed, “Well, we have guns, so we’ll be fiiiiiiiiiiine!” Fuck around and find out, colonizer.

The thing that jumped out at me was the comment about eskrima being “hidden in dance and play,” which is likely referring to two things: The maglalatik dance is specifically a war dance. I don’t know if that’s “hidden,” so much as “this is literally supposed to be practice for young men to learn how to fight, and for seasoned fighters to keep in shape.”

The other might be the common old wives’ tale saying that kalis fighters practiced to music. This is something that I’ve only seen done 1) for performances/displays where no actual fighting was going on, or 2) to pull foreigners’ legs about secret Pinoy techniques. Some people call it “cheesy,” and I personally think some guys saw Pinoys sparring to their workout playlist (or the historical equivalent), and they thought we did that all the time.

Like, nobody minds if a white guy spars with “Eye Of The Tiger” blasting because maybe he just likes working out to music, but when a Filipino guy/group spars with eskrima to their favorite beats, suddenly it’s a “time-honored tradition?” I haven’t seen any dance-battlers mentioned in the Boxer Codex or other records, so until someone has evidence, I won’t say it’s historical.

Regarding the hands-on stuff: I feel like they intentionally skipped the most boring stuff, either so the video would be more exciting, or to just fuck with poor Martin. Like, they handed this poor man a stick right off the bat and started him out with hitting stuff and sparring? Where is the training montage??? Was all of it cut???

Also, here’s an intersection with “real fights aren’t nearly as long as the movies pretend” and “fighters are not necessarily good video-makers:” The spars lasted all of five seconds each, and it was mostly to “the first one who lands a hit wins.” This is okay when it’s clearly in good fun, but it’s also not very educational and it tips a little bit into “TELLING people how awesome eskrima is” instead of “SHOWING people how awesome it is.”

Martin does not look like he learned any footwork, either, but he says he knows boxing! The sport that people literally compare eskrima’s footwork to the most often!

Maybe this is my entertaining/acting side coming out, but if you’re planning a video well in advance, with someone that you know is not trained in this field, and an indirect purpose of this is to spread knowledge of your country’s national sport/combat-style, I feel like you need to set aside a couple hours for a crash-course of “here’s how to do X, Y, and Z,” while the actual students and teachers are doing fancy stuff. You can film however much you need, and then CUT however much you need to fit the time-limit.

The video would have greatly been helped if they kept a training montage that lasted twenty or thirty seconds--it would be much more involved than what the video seems to have done, by just tossing a new guy a stick and messing around with him.

General impression: An easy to digest taste of eskrima, like Cup-O-Noodles / instant ramen, or whatever your country’s version of “cheap and easy food” is. Not bad for what it is, but you’ll need something meatier after a couple of hours.

A new life - that's what you were going towards to. Chasing dreams were either going to get you on stage in front of shining lights and adoration from people who loved your art. It could also crush you and leave you for dead. You knew the risks of this field and you knew that you would have to deal with any kinds of consequences that you would face during your journey, but you were ready. Ready to take the next step, ready to take the leap and ready to do what you actually love. That's why you were currently on your way to Memphis, Tennessee. 'Let the story begin' You thought to yourself as you started the engine in your car and left your old life behind.

You couldn't believe it. You were on your way to a new city and to your new apartment which was located in a small and isolated town called Memphis. You had met Sam Phillips, the producer of Sun Records, in your home town when he was looking for new talents for his up-and-coming recording studio. It was the only chance for you to try to show your talents to the world, and you couldn't miss it. It was just you and your guitar, head filled with big dreams. Luckily Sam Phillips loved your song and performance so you immediately got signed in. He gave you one requirement though. "You need to move to Memphis or else the business won't work. You have two weeks." He said after shaking your hand.

So here you were, in your father's old car driving yourself to Memphis with only two bags, a guitar and a lot of hope. The car ride was going to be long but with the excitement bubbling in your stomach, you could not care less about it. The radio was blasting country songs and the volume was on the highest level. As you were arriving closer to Memphis, the radio started to play local songs from none other than the Sun Records. "And now let us hear the new single released by the Sun Records 'That's All Right'" Suddenly an old song you loved played through the radio but it wasn't what you were expecting it to be. It was different, but in a good way. A young boy sang the song with such passion and talent that you were immediately interested. You started tapping your finger against the steering wheel and sang the lyrics with the boy.

You put your sunglasses on and put your foot on the gas petal as the wind blew your hair back. You had your 2nd best clothes on (1st were reserved for the first official meeting with Sam Phillips) because you wanted to give a good first impression to your neighbors. You were wearing a white dress, red sunglasses that had thick frames and some red heels. You had your nails painted cherry red and you had also bought a new lipstick that you had on. The name of the lipstick was "The Kiss of Lust" which your mother did not approve but she let you buy it anyways. As the radio was playing, the wind blowing and the sun shining, suddenly a bump on the road took you off your thoughts. The car started to slow down and confusion took over your mind. 'What on earth was that' You thought to yourself. Your father's car completely stopped and as you tried to restart it, it wouldn't bug. You stepped out of the car and saw a flat tire. "Oh, no no no. This can't be happening to me!" You cried as you tried to look for housing close to by. You needed help from anybody but you didn't see no houses or anything close by. You sat back in your car and the tears started falling. 'Not today'

You had cried so loudly for tens of minutes that you hadn't heard a car pull up next to you. You looked to your left and saw a truck that said Crown Electric CO. on the side of it. You then turned your head to look at the driver and my god, was he dreamy. A young man with dark hair and ocean blue eyes, was sitting on the driver's seat and his hand was resting on the opened window. "Miss, ya look like you're in some big trouble ther' ." His voice was deep, but smooth. His voice mesmerized you but also you couldn't help but to wonder why it sounded so familiar. You pushed the thought out of your mind since you were in a hurry. "Oh, yes! I seem to have a flat tire but I don't know how to fix it since I don't have a spare tire." You answered. You were lucky you had your sunglasses on since the crying probably made your eyes puffy. The man got out of his car and he was taller than you had expected. "Mind if I look at it, miss?" He asked very politely. He called you miss even though you both looked the same age, about 18. He looked and observed the tire for a minute, went back to his truck and took a brand new tire out of the trunk. He then rolled his sleeves and got to work. You were amazed. A handsome boy was changing your tire, with sweat dripping from his forehead. You couldn't help but bite your lower lip as you watched him fix your car. In minutes, the tire was changed and you were ready to continue your trip.

Before you did that, you had to get this boy's name, even though you were probably never going to meet again. "Thank you so much for helping me! But I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch your name?" You informed him as you stood up from the seat of your car. "My name is Elvis Presley and it was my pleasure to help you miss.." "Y/L/N, but just call me Y/N." You smiled at him sweetly and he returned the smile. He offered his hand for you to shake, but for your surprise, he kissed the top hand like a true gentleman. You cheeks turned as red as your sunglasses while he gave you a cheeky smile. You stood there for a second, lost in his eyes, while he was still holding your hand. "Could you wait for a second?" You asked Elvis as your hand left his and you turned to walk towards your car. "Oh I could wait all day for ya, sugar." He said with a smug look on his face as your head turned to look at him while your legs kept moving. You shook your head, dumbfounded, not knowing how to reply to that comment. You bent over the door of your car and grabbed some paper you could find and a pen from your purse. You then wrote your number and your name, with a heart, on a tiny piece of bubblegum wrapper and then you walked back over to him. "This is for you." You handed him the wrapper as he looked what was written on it. "As way of showing my gratitude, Elvis." You smiled at him and walked back over to your car, now to sit in it.

"I'm sorry, but I need to continue my trip now. " You said to him, with a hint of sadness in your voice. The uncertainty of not knowing if he would ever call you washed your thoughts but you did not let the boy see it. You wanted to seem confident...and sexy. As you started your engine, Elvis stopped you for a brief second by taking a hold of the car door. "I'll call ya, I promise. Until next time, honey." He then winked his eye at you and walked back to his truck. You were shocked, but incredibly pleased, with his flirting since the guys back home didn't do it as much (or as well). The red on your face couldn't get any worse so you left the scene, hoping to meet that boy again.

"Bye Elvis!" You yelled while waving your hand, not looking back, from your speeding car as you disappeared far into the distance.
