#spooky season 2024#the bird with the crystal plumage#deep red#dario argento giallo double feature#horror#watching people make bad choices and then be gruesomely murdered while also being exquisitely lit and framed#deep red has a beautiful if very brief queer character#and while our hero is a bit nonplussed to meet him at first eventually he's like yeah whatever#and he doesn't die!#(others however)#not to blame the un-genre-savvy victim but if you decorate your apartment with paintings of the souls of the damned#a black-gloved murderer showing up with a meat cleaver is kind of to be expected#even before you tell someone you know the murderer's name#in a public place#WITHOUT ACTUALLY SAYING THE NAME#also deep red has a lead actress who looks distractingly like harriet walter as harriet vane#and blatantly ripped off the exorcist soundtrack#anyway i feel like there should be some hannibal/giallo fandom crossover maybe?
