setting  .  in  one  of  the  upstairs  booth  at  12welve,  tania  sliding  into  a  seat  earlier  in  the  night  at  the  new  year  party.

the  thing  is,  tania’s  never  been  very  good  at  parties.  this  is  a  well  known  fact.  a  fact  that,  in  fact,  was  almost  enough  to  drive  them  away  from  12welve's  invitation.  but  alas.  here  they  are  now,  with  the  bright  lights,  and  the  loud  pulsing  music,  and  the  drink  in  hand  that  tastes  entirely  too  sweet  on  their  tongue.  enter,  a  familiar  face.  bambi  is  a  welcome  sight  as  tania  slips  into  one  of  the  miraculously  empty  booths  in  the  far  corner,  the  relief  radiating  off  them  almost  palpable.

the  first  thing  off  their  tongue:  "you're  not  drunk,  are  you?  what  worries  me  is  that  you’ve  ended  up  as  bad  as  they  are.  not  that—"  pause.  she's  bambi.  she's  smarter  than  that.  being  around  her  always  makes  them  feel  young  —  childlike,  if  they  were  in  the  business  of  being  honest.  tania  swallows  the  burning  sensation  in  their  throat.  "could  use  someone  sober  who  won't  drive  me  insane."
