what is this anime about two bros being dudes (and priests) that i am seeing? "his love for hiraga is so strong" is it good to watch? is the main relationship healthy and wholesome? i'm looking for something new (also yes i did hear about the disturbing and bizarre shit with the frozen hitler in here). just asking if it's good? it seems very bizarre.
Sorry anon I was going through one of my weekly health crisis when I got this message and didn’t have the best state of mind to answer it properly not that I’m super great either I think this is extending into a week-long weekly crisis but let’s go!
You are talking about Vatican Miracle Examiner/Vatican Kiseki Chousakan or, as I affectionally call it, CSI Vatican.
Join Hiraga Josef Kou and Roberto Nicholas as they are sent by the Vatican to investigate claims of miracles and end up uncovering bizarre and complicated conspiracies, fighting satanic nazi cults, pedophiles, killer clowns, cocaine, poisonous snakes, zombies, amnesia, rainbow Jesus, prophecies, pseudo-science, demons (?) and their own past, traumas and personal insecurities (amongst other things)!
Look, nothing can prepare you for this series, although the first arc (involving frozen Hitler) certainly sets the tone for the type of absolutely crazy things you’re about to encounter that leave you in a constant state of, what the hell am I watching, and also constantly thinking something is supernatural, only to be proven it’s not, and when the series finally has you comfortable with the idea that there’s a scientific explanation for everything it suddenly throws supernatural stuff at you in the last arc. CSI Vatican, always keeping you guessing!
Is the series good? It’s…it’s absolutely a trashy series that throws so many ridiculous things at you, you really need to be in a mindset of not taking it too seriously to enjoy it. Like, just go with it and don’t question anything (for example, there’s a character in this series that just..glows...it’s never mentioned or addressed you just accept it). I personally found it hilarious, and I enjoyed how it kept me guessing just how much more wild it would get. Of course, I say this, but I also openly sobbed in the last episode. The series is not completely devoid of a heart and clearly they were trying to go for some meaningful themes and in a lot of points they do succeed (I can’t hear the term “flower of sacramento” now without feeling a bit emotional).
This was my favourite anime of Summer 2017 and I wish they would do a season 2 because every single episode was a wild ride that I enjoyed a lot! Bonus for me that I love media that deals with catholicism in general. Absolutely only started watching the show for the aesthetic and was pleasantly surprised. This image (from this post)  represents it really well actually:

Now about our favourite bros being priests, priests being bros. Is the relationship good, wholesome and healthy, you ask? EXTREMELY so! Hiraga and Roberto are both great individually (Roberto is my personal fav and became as such when he exorcised someone by knocking them out with a bible, but Hiraga is a sweetheart too) and their relationship is super pure and the emotional core of the series. They’re not a bickering pair of investigators as is the popular trope, even though they are very different from each other. From the start these two are very close, caring with each other and openly physically affectionate at every opportunity. They have disagreements, and there is conflict in their relationship, both external and internal, but at the end of the day they love each other and protect each other at all times.

They are also extremely, adorably domestic. They live together and Roberto cooks for Hiraga and it’s just precious.

They also have a scene that is straight out of a doujinshi and that I’m still in disbelief I witnessed (I won’t spoil it but it’s on episode 7 and you’ll know it when you see it). It’s both in the realm of “this is so wild” and “awww sweet boys”. The duality of CSI Vatican.
So should you watch it? I would say yeah, go for it, give it a try. It’s very fun and I think it’s a hidden gem. It’s no achievement of storytelling or anything but does it have to be? It’s very entertaining and the leads are great and it may even pull at your emotions at the end of the day.
The true miracle was love all along :,)
