Series 4/5 was a weird time for Rimmer its like the writers suddenly decided he wasn’t traumatised enough and accidentally added too much.
#that’s why they’re great series’ too tbf#he really went from just a silly guy with family issues whos a bit of a git because he prioritises work#to someone who went through the worst amount of mental pain imaginable in a short amount of time#no wonder he’s a dick#also I headcanon that Rimmer was still processing the existence of ace#which caused him to do what happened in meltdown#because he wanted to “save” them#but he knows ace was slightly reckless and just didn’t pull it off right#meaning people died#and he assumed that always happens for ace so it’s all good#smeghead#red dwarf#arnold rimmer
