destiny, creativity, and friendship bracelets for the poly ask meme? :D
— @amys-cringe-cabinet
!! hello again amy!! Thank you for the asks!! Let’s see if I can make this one relatively short for once..,
destiny: what would be your favorite soulmate AU involving you all?
funny enough I think the one I’d consider to be my “favorite” to shake around in my head like a ping pong ball would be the one your Exodia, Obliterate the Fourth Wall! fic is based around!!! The whole telepathic bond idea has always been interesting to me, especially when it combines with the idea of soulmates. Something about hearing most any thoughts from someone you’re “destined” to meet is alluring to me. Obviously it’d be annoying and frustrating to have someone barging into your thoughts when you’ve barely even met them, but it makes room for some form of a slow burn and getting to know someone, their thought processes, the way they react to the world inside their head or how they think through choices. Along with that comes the other person observing all this, getting to really memorize and see the other individual in one of their truest portrayals. I really like the concept and I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently.
I also think it’s be really chaotic if all of us shared thoughts… just a really disorderly group chat
creativity: what are some headcanons you have for your f/os?
Marik gets interested in a lot of things. He’ll see something at a thrift store, like some sad little broken tamagotchi, and he’ll buy it and find a way to fix it, mess around with it for a while, and then find something completely different to entertain himself. Buying random magazines on cooking and fashion or even technology, picking up posters for movies or games he’s never even seen just because they look interesting, buying random vinyl stickers to stick to his motorcycle even if it’s just some miscellaneous logo. I want to label him as an impulsive buyer but he’s responsible about it; he just likes having a lot of things to look at and mess around with to occupy his time, even though most of his interests don’t tend to connect in any way.
This is a more popular one, but I like to think Ryou has a lot of random collections. Obviously referring to his canonical Monster World collection, but also things like those porcelain (clown) dolls you’d see at a Goodwill, old worn away and antique books. I like to think he has a little part of his apartment dedicated to a small yet well loved collection of those small hand painted porcelain cat statues that are usually chipped and faded at certain parts. If you look close enough, you can see a few of them where they had to be glued back together, mainly because he’d buy the already broken ones since he knows no one else would buy them. Probably has picked up random animal bones from the side of the road before. The usual.
This one is insanely ooc but also from the influence of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Although his deck and overall energy say the exact opposite, I don’t think Yami Bakura would do very well around other spirits after his time in the ring. He’s spent around three millennia within the ring and popping in and out of society, swearing vengeance to a pharaoh, and scheming over his plans. Along with that is the fact that his soul has quite literally been corrupted by the literal embodiment of darkness itself, so much so that he’s forgotten his original reason for going after the millennium items. I feel like if he was to be faced with another spirit, another lost soul that never quite made it to the afterlife for whatever reason, I feel like he’d feel a bit mocked. Bakura already sees basically everyone and everything as lower than him, but being faced with something that’s been through/is going through something he’s gone through would be a little disorienting. It’s like seeing himself, but he doesn’t feel pity or empathy, he just feels embarrassment because he knows he’s acted that exact way before. With whatever is left of TKB’s spirit in him, he probably feels upset with himself when faced with other wandering souls, because he knows he’s been corrupted and completely changed, and there’s no reversing that. He isn’t higher or any better than these spirits. He might as well be lower than them with what he was.
Melvin probably talks in his sleep. There’s no specific underlying reason for it; sometimes he just mumbles incomprehensible things, sometimes you’ll hear him recite a bit of the Ancient Chant because somewhere in his brain it still registers as important. The weird part is is that Marik doesn’t talk in his sleep, it’s just Melvin who does. He’s also an insanely light sleeper, but he doesn’t wake himself up too often from his own noises. Most of it is mumbling and gibberish that he can’t even decipher on his own, and it doesn’t happen every time he sleeps, but enough so that it’s noticeable if you’re around him during the night/early morning often enough. Occasionally he’ll mutter some random Duel Monster card effect that you can actually make out (usually Monster Reborn).
friendship bracelets: how well do you all typically get along? has it always been like this, or did your f/os have to adjust to each other’s presence?
Admittedly I feel a little guilty when I think of our relationship. All of them have some indirect way of effecting/knowing the others; Marik “helped” Ryou after he helped Bakura get him stabbed, Bakura once got literally burned to ashes by Melvin, in which he technically destroyed Ryou’s physical body at the same time, and when it comes to the whole “host” body thing going on between the corresponding characters, it gets messy. But I think they’ve been getting along pretty okay.
Obviously getting Marik and Melvin to interact and actually talk to each other rather than ignore and despise each other’s existence took some patience and time, but they’re doing much better from where they started. Being more tolerant of the other, helping each other where it’s needed, communicating and/or reminding each other of tasks or things they need to do. It’s still kinda tense between them (obviously) but they’re making progress and that’s all that matters to me.
Bakura and Ryou are going down the same trajectory, somewhat; Bakura has been around since Ryou’s childhood, so they’ve communicated enough times that they actually know each other and acknowledge the other more than shrug each other off as just boulders in their path. This made them communicating easier, but getting each other to actually be sharing a body again, being possessed by the ring again, was obviously way harder on Ryou. That was a whole mess on it’s own and he was really indecisive on it; he wanted to think the spirit had changed from what he was, he wanted to give it another chance, but he definitely had a right to be nerve wracked and upset over the idea, to not give Bakura another chance because of everything he caused him, physically and mentally. But he decided to try again, for some reason that he still hasn’t told me, and I think they’re doing the best they’ve ever done right now. Even if he was to try anything again, Bakura knows there’s people around to keep him in check, and people he needs to keep himself in check for (there’s not really anything else he can do anyway). But really, dismissing whatever doubts I’ve gotten somewhat over, I really think Bakura wants to try again with life. I really think he wants to try and be better and actually live a life instead of spending it trying to avenge people who are long gone. And after Millennium World, when Atem defeated him, most of Zorc’s influence and hold on him diminished and broke away, so he’s not focusing on awakening him again, not when there’s nothing to awaken. Again, they’re trying, and that’s all I’m really preoccupied with.
Marik and Ryou get along perfectly; it was a little awkward for Marik when he first actually met Ryou (and didn’t drag his half conscious body around on a motorcycle), but soon enough he realized Ryou’s weird interests were enough to keep up with his spontaneous interests, so getting to know and become comfortable around the other was really easy.
Marik and Bakura are… well, marik and bakura. Two insanely smart and well thought out people who become absolute doofuses when put together. Still snarky. After Battle City, getting them to interact was simple; Marik didn’t know whether or not Bakura was ultimately destroyed by his and Melvin’s duel, so I remember him being relieved when Ryou explained what exactly happened. I think Bakura himself was somewhat happy to see him again, but I doubt he’d admit it to anyone else.
Ryou and Melvin are a pair I didn’t really think would get along, but they definitely do!! It started with Ryou just complimenting some of his cards, asking about some of his techniques, receiving simple response, etc,. Then he started inviting him to play tabletop games and to watch movies with us, asking him what he wanted to eat for dinner or just asking how he was, simple questions just to make him know he had a place in the house. I think Ryou did a much better job at getting Melvin involved than I did, honestly ^^; I’m glad he was around to do that, and I know Melv is too :)!!
Lastly… Melvin and Bakura. They don’t try to kill each other anymore!! definitely had that vibe when they first met after battle city, however…if anything, I think they have a more competitive relationship by nature. They make it a challenge to each other to see who can slip up first or do something morally questionable before the other, and that’s their way of keeping the other in check. They were a bit iffy about each other when they met again, with Bakura being annoyed with Melvin for setting him back by a whole season in the anime, but they eventually tolerated the other’s existence enough to share a bed with them, so i mean?? they don’t look at each other like they want to tear out each other’s throats and that’s good enough for me </3 /hj
#WOO just tiny bit shorter than the last two!! making progress!!!!#thank youuuu for the questionssss :)!!!#ask game answers#self ship#amy#quartzshipping

Honest Opinion - Gemini Saga (Hades)
I forgot to post this yesterday. I’m an idiot. Anyway he’s still called Gemini in this chapter, my poor man Saga is doomed to not have a name in the Italian dub.
Overall score (character, not looks): 10/10
I know, I know, so far I gave basically every single Gold Saint a 10/10 score, but can you really blame me? They’ve all been better than their classic counterpart. But I’m not here to talk about them. I’m here to talk about this man in particular.
The pain he went through, can we talk about it? I’m not talking about the fight against Mu, because... well, honestly, the tears of blood got me. I was there, watching idly and calmly, and then Mu emphasized how difficult it was for them to do that. Cue the blood tears. I was ready to turn off the episode and go cry myself to sleep. Where was I? Oh, right. Can you imagine, as soon as he stepped into the Gemini Temple, what kind of emotions his mind went through? Not stepping into the temple, but finding his twin brother there. I refuse to think that Saga, who definitely knew Kanon had a change of heart and [Saga] was free of any evil intentions, didn’t feel a stab of pain right through his heart.
But I do appreciate how he obliterated him just like Exodia obliterated Kaiba. That whole scene of Saga unveiling his cosmo was stunning, those visuals! I loved it. And can we take a moment to realize he knew he was Kanon right off the bat? Like, just thanks to his cosmo and not by actually looking at his face? I’m really thankful that Kanon had a brain bigger than mine and stayed away, but I’m also thinking... would have Saga been able to kill his brother, had him been there? Logically speaking, no. But thankfully that’s a story that doesn’t have space here.
The plan of disguising themselves using the other Specters’ armors is brilliant. They fooled Aiolia, even though he had suspects, but it worked. Obviously it didn’t work with Shaka, but that’s a given. Onward to when the resurrected Saints fought Shaka. I might be looking into these things too much, but damn! Saga was scared. I mean, sure he immediately recognized Shaka was playing with them, but I’m betting everything I own he was terrified of him. What really hit me was the determination Saga demonstrated; when Shaka told them to use the Athena Exclamation, the forbidden technique Camus and Shura were way more afraid to use, Saga reminded them of their objective. It’s not like he wanted to use it, because surely he didn’t want to fall that much, but he knew he had to do it. He knew it was the only way for them to reach Athena. They were all crying, dammit. Dealing that deadly blow devastated them, no doubts.
Although, I don’t want to give Saga more credit than he deserves. I don’t think Saga understood why exactly Shaka was willingly subjecting himself to the Athena Exclamation. I though about it for a while, and I came to a more plausible conclusion: maybe Saga sniffed something in the air, because he knew Shaka and the machinations of his mind, but that’s about it. He couldn’t image what Shaka’s real objective was.
I loved how much respect he showed him, afterwards. How he recovered Shaka’s rosary and gave it to Mu. The Saint that chose to die to make amend for his (and his evil side’s) mistakes came back full force with that gesture. Despite the circumstances, it was really considerate of him.
The whole scene of the two Athena Exclamations colliding is not that different from the previous one. Only this time Saga (alongside Camus and Shura) was more wiling to use that technique. As they said, it wasn’t like they had more to lose anyway, and that was so sad. I was so distressed when I heard that. It’s what came next that really hit home. It was his expression when he looked at Athena, and at his brother. It was him reacting to the gold dagger tried to use back in the day to kill the goddess, it was him crying because he didn’t want to kill her but he had to. Athena taking his hands and Saga with tears in his eyes as he held the dagger was more touching that I’m willing to admit.
His last breath was heart-rending. He gave the Bronze Saints his trust. He had faith in them, in what they could do. That in itself was one of the most redeeming acts I’ve seen him do in this chapter. The Saga we knew from the classic series, the real Saga, was similar. He tried to help Seiya and trusted him, and I really love that this side of him ported over. Him telling the Bronze Saints “Protect our goddess” was so powerful, because it showed Saga as who he really was, not the person they met back in the Sanctuary Arc.
And of course, he was at the Wailing Wall. That was his last act for redemption, the ultimate sacrifice, and I’ll give him the same opinion I had for every other Saint. A respectful one. Saga was presented to us as a determined man, ready to do anything and to lose everything, just so he could help who survived. Just so he could put an end to the Holy War, even in the twisted way he had to act. And I loved him from start to finish.
