JOEY !!!!!!! [BREAKS INTO INCOHERENT SOBBING]

OK OK SO. My sweet girl joey's essentially the only "normal" person in the cast of the au, bc shes never lived in the zones and has no idea of its existence until a bunch of neon coloured assholes and their gremlin child show up at the 7/11 where she works [orwell keeps his past on the dl for good reason]. This gives her a sort of naivety in that she considers the concept of life in the zones to be this cool badass thing but doesnt realize the ramifications of living in such a violent environment.

Also i wrote her to be as bubbly and as extroverted as they come partially bc i love characters that are like that and partially bc you never see butch characters who ARE excitable and sweet yk? Joey's a total sweetheart and more than a bit goofy and she really balances out the tone of the story i think. Bc of orwell basically consuming every kind of movie and book and genre of music he could find when he escaped from the zones to make sense of things and to "catch up" to the outside world, Joey's got an insane level of knowledge on pop culture and so like takes it upon herself to sort of "educate" the 'joys.

Ive already mentioned that shes mixed but i didnt elaborate on that SO! joey's half mexican american and half white as ive mentioned, but her mother [aka the white half i mean. Youve seen orwell] was a white south african. This is partially bc a.) I can and will insert a bit of my home country into a story whenever fucking possible and b.) This also gives joey a bit of a cultural mix too, if that makes sense. Shes not typically american bc of the difference in the general culture of the usa and of south africa so her household, even after her mother's passing, still retains that mix. She also cant speak afrikaans for shit either my girl has LOST the multilingual lottery [she can understand both spanish and afrikaans just fine tho]
