Former Buffs Coleman and Lee In Contention For LPGA Card
Former Colorado women’s golfers Jenny Coleman and Esther Lee are in contention to earn their LPGA card at the Final Stage of the LPGA Qualifying in Daytona Beach, Fla.
166 total players will compete for 20 LPGA cards on the Jones and Hill course of LPGA international. To determine status for the 2018 LPGA and Symetra Tour seasons, participants will face a grueling 90-hole stroke play format.
Pairings will remain the same in rounds one and two, but for rounds three and four, players will be re-paired by score within their respective rotation group. After 72 holes, the field will be cut to the top 70 players and ties.
Those making the 72-hole cut will be re-paired for the final round, which will be played on the Hills Course.“To get to the final stage you will see there are six categories,” head CU coach Anne Kelly.
“The one Esther is in requires making it through the two previous Qualifying stages.”Only 20 full-time LPGA cards are up for grabs. Those who finish in places 21-45, and players tied for 45th, earn conditional LPGA status for 2018.
“Jenny was on the tour last year, but didn’t make enough money to keep her status and therefore has to go back to the Qualifying-school,” Kelly said. The qualifying tournament begins on Wednesday, November 29, and ends on Sunday, December 3.
NOTES: Current Pac-12 players in the field include: 145 Linnea Strom, ASU 147 Muni He, USC 162 Krystal Quihuis, UA163 Robyn Ree, USC **If they make it they have to turn pro right away to be an LPGA member –thus giving up their spring college season.
