Hey dear! Hope I'm not a bother, but could you recommend me a few ttrpg games, if possible? A few acquaintances and I are planning on trying out play by posting. However, most of us are either new to tabletop games or lack too much experience and we would like for something quick to learn that's more on the silly side so we can let loose a bit. We've also been discussing the possibility of a diceless system, however, that is not a must-have.
If youâre looking for the intersection of âbeginner friendlyâ, âquick to learnâ, âsomewhat sillyâ and âconducive to play-by-postâ, you could have a look at Lasers & Feelings. Itâs basically an affectionate parody of Star Trek: The Original Series, and the rules are one page long. And hey, free.
If youâd prefer something with less brevity and more structure (and Iâd recommend it if a newbie is GMing), it really depends on what sort of premise youâd prefer. For example, if you like goofy supernatural drama - think What We Do in the Shadows - Rose Baileyâs Die For You could be a good choice. Kiddie anime with pet monsters? Try PokĂ©thulhu. Wacky ultraviolent martial arts shenanigans? Wushu. Itâs tough to say without more specific guidance.
(At the risk of shameless self-promotion, my own Costume Fairy Adventures might also fit the bill, though itâs not free, and also itâs kind of A Lot if youâre just starting out; Iâd like to think itâs easy to learn, but thereâs enough to it that itâs not necessarily going to be quick. Check out the downloadable preview on the product page - I can shoot you a discount code if it grabs you.)
If you want to add âdicelessâ to those criteria, there are a couple of ways you can go. Both of these options lose a bit on the âquick to learnâ side, as a. they are longer than half a dozen pages, and b. their resource economies create some slightly-non-obvious incentives, but theyâre still not too bad on that front.
On the lighthearted side, you might have a look at Golden Sky Stories. Itâs a localised Japanese game about magical talking animals who can transform into human children making friends in a rural small town. Your special abilities are literally powered by friendship, which tells you basically everything you need to know about the gameâs tone.
On the decidedly not lighthearted side (but still quite silly), thereâs Fiasco. If youâve seen Fargo, this is the game it would notionally be played in. Itâs not quite diceless, but due to the way itâs set up, there are only three dice rolls per session; once at the beginning, one in a mid-session intermission, and one at the end; the rest of the time youâre trading dice, not rolling them. Thereâs also a huge public repository of playsets, so itâs easy to play in various milieux.

How about your personal top 3 Hetalians and what spoopy thing they would dress as on Halloween this year? And to add another factor, how would they react if by the end of the night they ended up turning into the thing they dressed up as? So, for example, if one of them dressed like a werewolf on the strike of midnight they actually turn into a werewolf. You can write this however you wish! Be it as a scenario, headcanons, or you could even delete it, the important thing is for you to have fun ^^ - @alottleannoyance
Now, these arenât necessarily my favourite Hetalians but I thought that theyâd be interesting! That and I wasnât sure youâd be ok if I had 2ps, so I avoided using them! Also Iâm sorry about this request taking so long!
America: Now, Alfred has a habit of only dressing as what he believes he is.. A SUPER HERO! Now, this year, he has decided to dress as Batman! All out expensive costume, even a voice inhancer to deepen how he sounds!
Reaction: His newly found black cat clock struck twelve, midnight on the dot. He grinned and began to sprint before falling dizzy. He fell back and held his head before groaning. He finally regained himself and sat up. âNot cool dude..â he said softly. However, instead of his usual bubbly and almost teenager sounding voice had been replaced by a deep and smooth voice.. identical to the voice of Batman. He paused before jumping to his feet. He spoke again. âWoah, woah.. I am.. BATMAN!â He exclaimed. He ran around, destroying his house with batarangs all. Night. Long.
Denmark: Matthias would most certainly join/drag the entire Nordic five group into doing a group costume! They had deicided on a clan of ghost pirates! Of course, Matthias was the captain of this ghost clan!
Reaction: Matthias couldnât believe his eyes, he was.. a ghost! He was floating, hovering and had no legs anymore! He was laughing in a mixture of nervousness and excitement. He would use his new found abilities to mess with his fellow Nordics, making a special note to bug and frighten Norway, he would float to the well known Americans annual Halloween party and use his pale almost translucent skin as âspecial effects makeupâ and win the costume contest! Heâd quite like his new found power! But⊠it does wear off right?
Canada: The shy Canadian will be forced into a costume by his brother, which leads to something that is apparently âbuilding in self confidenceâ.. a lumberjack. Matthew was dressed in a checkered shirt, fake beard, beanie and a beard, fit with an axe.
Reaction: Matthew scratched at his chin as the beard began to itch. âNo ones noticing me anyway.. maybe I can take this beard off..â he had muttered to himself and as he tugged, he winced. It.. hurt. He tried again and thatâs when the realisation slammed onto him. The beard was attached. He began scratching, clawing, trying desperately to get it off. âAhh maple.. maybe itâs costume glue-â his eyes went wide when he heard his voice. It was deep, oozing with confidence. He sighed and stood up, walking over to Kuma. âThis must be a nightmare.. right?â
âI donât think so Matthew.â

Hello! I'm here looking for a possible ttrpg recommendation? A friend of mine really wants to get into them, but she's having problems. To list off a few things: 1. She isn't exactly a fan of combat and much prefers talking or planning her way out of things 2. Rule heavy games intimidate her an awful lot, especially so considering she can be forgetful 3. Our country dosen't have a good gaming community, so really rare games would be hard to find. Anything you can suggest for such a person?
If you donât have a big gaming community locally, itâs likely that all youâre going to be able to find in the way of face-to-face games are the most popular, mainstream systems, which - unfortunately for your friend - tend to be both rules-heavy and combat-heavy. If you canât get together enough players for your own group, Iâd suggest looking online; both chat-room gaming and playing via forum or email are possibilities.
As for low-combat, rules-light games, I have a previous post on the subject. None of the games listed there are particularly rules-heavy in the conventional sense, but Chuuboâs Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine, Sufficiently Advanced and Wisher, Theurgist, Fatalist have a fair number of moving parts to their respective systems, so I wouldnât recommend them for someone who has trouble remembering the rules. Any of the others are probably a safe bet.

Youâve heard about Mom Friend and Dad Friend, now get ready for....
Grandpa Friendâą:
- almost always grumpy - bad at showing affection but cares about their friends a lot - âwhat did you say?â, âSorry i didnât hear that, can you repeat it?â - often reminisces about their youth (even though theyâre probably only in their twenties. Alternatively: âkids these daysâŠâ) - too old for this shit (see above) - totally not down with the youth - bad back (and everything else hurts too) - likes to complain

It doesnât matter how terrifying or monstrous or deadly you make your eldritch monster, thereâs gonna be a person who hauls themselves out of the sewers to tell you that they will personally fuck it.
