T H O U G H T S ? If you have been following my past couple of posts you will have seen that I am asking the question about how to show my work in a virtual setting. I have been thinking a lot recently about how virtual exhibitions have grown in popularity, probably initially out of necessity. As time progresses though, I think that the virtual exhibition setting has become more and more important for artists, to show their work, stay visible and keep exhibiting. I believe even when exhibitions, galleries and museums open there will still be a market for this way of viewing artwork. My main thought though is how to make this experience of a virtual exhibition more interactive and how to hit all those senses of a real life experience of a gallery. I want to be able to create a way of experiencing my artwork with the same feelings you get when viewing IRL. The sounds, the lighting, the texture and scale of a piece. Some of my favourite exhibitions have been ones that wholly submerge you into the artists wold. A great example of this was Lina Iris Viktor’s exhibition back in January last year called “Some Are Born To Endless Night – Dark Matter” at Autograph Gallery. Lina managed to create a beautiful, thought provoking experience using props, block colour and walk throughs that took you on a journey through her world. How do we get this feeling in a virtual exhibition without spending thousands on special technology? This is my conundrum. I started this quest thinking about how to show the detail in my work but now it has grown to thinking about how to create atmosphere and the actual human experience of walking through a gallery but virtually. Too tricky a task?
