The famous specimen of Allosaurus known as 'Big Al' (MOR 693), the holotype of A. jimmadseni. 'Big Al' was found near Shell, Wyoming, in 1991, and preserves an exceptional 95% of the skeleton.

Allosaurus is also represented by the far more common type species, A. fragilis ('fragile'); Morrison Formation, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, USA;
and a delicious European flavour called A. europaeus; LourinhΓ£ Formation, Portugal.
Upper Jurassic, ~155 - 145 Ma.
