Steam deck experiment continues. I managed to get a 13.3" OLED portable monitor (super slim, so slim it is almost concerning, lol) at a huge discount. Some rando rando brand but it looks great so I'm not complaining. And, hello, massive discount on an already cheap/affordable item.
That said, the actual cost came in attempting to set it up. ;)
Took a bunch of tries to get it to connect to HDMI correctly (needed to whisper incantations at it) but as far as playing CP77 or BG3? Whoooo! This is just enough screen real estate for me to actual sit back and comfortably play but still have portability.
For Reasons, the only location at home where we have a big TV screen is the (cramped and cluttered) TV/media room. Everywhere else at home it is "bring your own portable screen" or go sit at a computer desk. For our cramped and crowded home, this makes sense.
Anyhow -- it is nice to have the option to output to a larger portable screen but, honestly, even without this new addition the screen on the steam deck when handheld or propped up on my lapdesk while I am sitting in bed is sill fantastic.
BUT NOW FOR THE ADDED BONUS:
When I switch the steam deck out of gaming mode and into desktop mode, I now have TWO SCREENS!!! Yay!!! Ultra portable two screen computing.
Built in screen doing its 800x1280 while the portable monitor (which isn't the world's highest res bc, hey, super cheap rando brand OLED!) is doing its thing at 1080x1920.
Definitely happy with this as a fun little linux machine I can play with when not playing games.
The good thing about this is that with KBM + slim 13.3 monitor acting as a larger secondary display, mucking around with installing mods and other support software on the linux end for post processing images or short video clips will be SOOOOO much more comfortable. Extra pixels are good.
Laughing in a good way at how I managed to cobble together a relatively affordable gaming computer that is entirely portable! ;D
