KP watches MH: Ghoul Squad Holiday Edition

ok let me preface this by saying that i have not watched any of the Ghoul Squad webisodes, so i cannot comment about whether this is just the webisodes strung together or not. it looks to be the same style of animation (one of the reasons i haven’t watched the webisodes), but seeing as Fright On was the original webisode style and not webisodes strung together, doesn’t necessarily mean anything. i will also note that i’ve only seen WtMH, and not Electrified, so i might make comments about things they reference that have been establish, but i don’t know about (again, i’m not a fan of the reboot narrative, but i’m not watching this to just complain about it)

**EDIT: ok so i’ve been informed that this is new content...again, i don’t watch the webisodes, so i know nothing, and just wanted to point that out so no one woudl yell at me for not realizing if it wasn’t new

i really hate these “humanology” classes. why are these monster this dumb? half of them are human descended to begin with. i could understand a few of them having this mentality (ie Cleo, since she was locked up when many of these traditions began) but all of them? the Wolf pack lived on the fringes of human society, why are you confused by this Deena?

and are there really no monster holidays? and there’s nothing wrong with Cleo’s holiday being “mummy centrc” (ok there is but there isn’t) because hello, different monsters different cultures, so different holidays. i understand that they want to create something new to be fully inclusive, but the implications make it sound like if you celebrate different holidays you’re wrong...

i loved Cleo’s doodle though

the ideas montage was fun though. Tora's actually was the closest (also awww she made up a family)...but geeze i don’t like her voice. why does everyone have whinier voices here? Abby though sounds like Tarn

attack of the siblings! and Frankie missing her family, awwww. and...wow Frankie is actually building herself a sister. uh...sweetie, that’d be more a daughter for you since your parents built you and they’re not your siblings, but, uh, ok...i guess that’s a *minor* nitpick. stupid reasoning for her name, still like “Al-vee-ah” would’ve been more clever. and i’m amazed the school had literal bodyparts just lying around for this...she literally made her sister in less than an hour (also Lala you can’t dismiss her feelings of missing her family, you live with your actual dad and sister)

lol overbearing/overly enthusiastic Frankie is sorta great actually. and it’s sweet that Alivia is showing interest in photography and you know art, instead of science...and Frankie doesn’t really catch onto that. it’s both the “siblings having different interests” but also the “parents wanting their children to be mini them” concepts i think. see, i am liking the *new* elements that are, you now, 100% new in this...i just don’t like the *new* versions of old things ^^;

i actually do like the interactions between Deena and her Mom. it’s sort of riddled with cliched cheesy tropes, sure, but it’s nice. stating all the wolf pups are boys though is head scratching since we’ve got Alivia and Fangelica, but hat means no Pawla? does Dad Wolf have Clawd, Howleen, Pawla, Wereideth (and Packlyn) or something?

that’s not Barker! Barker’s blonde with teal streaks, not...neon pink hair??? and there’s one with neon teal hair?? and there’s real Barker with fake Barker?? i...these wolf pups confuse me so much...why have Barker’s doll counterpart in there is you don’t call him such?

Cleo wins the most i think. sorta proves why she wouldn’t work with younger siblings, just saying...

also wolves don’t breed like cats as far as i know; one liter doesn’t have multiple sires. the amounts of color variations in these pups don’t make sense...again, why should i care, the designers didn’t

and Mom why aren’t you more concerned that you’ve just agreed to spend thousands of dollars on phones for your daughter and her friends when you have a dozen kids to support?

(side note: sell blind boxed versions of the Wolf little brothers Mattel. only have like 5 versions, with 2 common, 2 rare, and 1 ultra rare. people will buy multiple copies)

what normal person woudl allow their child to keep wild bats as a pet?? i grew up at he Farm with bats and i was taught not to touch them.

so...overall...yeah it’s reboot fodder. i still don’t really like the reboot narrative as a whole. but there were a few pieces that i did genuinely enjoy. if the writing and animation tried harder, it could be a whole lot better...yet at the same time i recognize that it could be a whole lot worse. if you love the reboot, i’m happy for you, but yeah still not really my cup of tea.
