i don't hate dnd because its mainstream i hate it because the people who most want to play dnd are the people that just don't read fantasy
#all of the soul-crushingly bad lore in dnd puts me off#and nobody has a fix that isn't just “we'll homebrew it! make up your own stuff and adapt the existing mechanics!!”#and it's almost entirely because they don't read fantasy and can't imagine someone wanting a better set of rules or a different magic system#instead of their cloying awful planar magic system that was built for wargames and not actual interesting worldbuilding#dnd can be good if its back to basics six fuckers in a gross dungeon playing a small scale wargame#but lets stop pretending its good for constructed roleplaying or anything besides combat slogs
