Welcome to newsie’s big king rant!! *cracks knuckles* i apologise for spelling mistakes or grammar innacuracies

i’ll start with AKB but i’ll do it in three parts ranging how much knowledge i have on the subject

andrew keenan bolger was born on the 16th may 1985 in detroit. he has 2 older sisters, maggie and celia ( who won a tony award for “to kill a mockingbird”!) he’s married to scott bixby since 2018 and their relationship is so nice and wholesome it’s so cute.

HES 5’4. IM 5’5. it’s so funny to think he’s shorter than me but whatever 😭😭

his first broadway role was in the OBC of seussical as alternate Jojo in 2000-2001 of which he did ONE broadway show then got kicked coz he hit puberty LMFAO poor 15 year old andrew

he then went on to be robertson ay in mary poppins THEN went in a woekshop for newsies and papermill and broadway( fun fact i think he’s the only actor who stayed in the same role for the workshop, papermill then obc of newsies )

during newsies he got a lot of fans which honestly yeah real but in march 2013 he left newsies to begin rehersing for tuck everlasting which didn’t make it until 2016 bc there wasn’t a suitable theatre for a transfer to broadway yet ( another fun fact if it had stayed in the realm of 2013 sadie sink would have played winnie instead of sarah charles lewis )

then in 2017 he was in kris kringle the musical playing kris kringle and in 2021 he was in seven deadly sins the off broadway musical playing phillipe

in september ( not sure if going ahead due to sag aftra ) he’s gonna star in “dracula a comedy of terrors” which seems very fun!! he posted a rlly funny photo of him wearing vampire teeth

ok other things than theatre he’s done i’m so sorry gang

so in 1997 he was chip’s singing voice in that lovely enchanted christmas beauty and the beast spinoff which i watched ALL OF IT just to find he’s in ONE FUCKING SONG and he’s only in the credits ONCE

( however tim curry is in it and he’s a fat smash so 🤷🏻‍♀️ )

he was in this show called looking in 2014 don’t watch it if ur under 18 i’m fucking traumatised from it don’t curse yourself with that PLEASE GOD DONT SEARCH ANDREW KEENAN ON GIFS EITHER

he had like a miniseries called ‘submissions only’ which also performed at 54 below

he has a podcast called ‘that sounds right’ which is SO FUCKING FUNNY PLEASE GO LISTEN TO IT I LOVE IT SO MUCH

also the note about his lack of dancing skills reminded me of his old youtube videos and one video he was talking about an audition he botched (there was basketball choreo he was supposed to learn) and instead, because he didn't know what to do, he just put the basketball in his shirt and pretended to be pregnant??? hey directors like a strong acting choice and he delivered.

Don’t Call Me Doll ||  Race x reader

Summary: Y/N and Race don't exactly get along but when Oscar Delancey tries to hit on Y/N, Race steps in and helps her.

Author's note: I wrote this in the middle of the night so you have been warned - kinda dissapointed on how this turned out but i don’t think it’s TOO terrible

Warning: Some swear words ( I think only 2) and Oscar being a huge dick

Request(s): I loved your bookworm story with race! Can you write a race x reader where she gets hit on by Oscar and Race shows up and helps her out? (Okay but race fighting would be super hot) || can you write something with race where race is always calling her cute names and is always flirting and one day race thinks the reader is going to kiss him but she kisses his cheek instead

You walked in the middle of Albert and Race, the three of you bickering about who would sell their papes the fastest. Since it was winter, you all decided that having a competition on who could get rid of their newspapers was an easy way to motivate you three to get out of the cold.  

" I swear, it gets colder an' colder each year. I can't feel my toes!" Albert complains as he rubs his hands together as you stuff your own hands in your coat.

Race slings his arm over your shoulder and sighs," My lips sure do feel numb, mind warming them up for me doll?"

You roll your eyes as you shake off Race's arm. You and Race weren't friends, not even close. Ever since the first day you became a newsie, Race had made it a goal to annoy you with his ridiculous pickup lines and inappropriate jokes. Back then, you would've grown red from embarrassment but over the years, you learned how to fired back with witty comments that made the whole lodge house shake with laughter.

" Maybe a good knuckle sandwich will warm you up instead Higgins. Would you care for a sample?" You said sharply as Albert let out a laugh.

" God I can cut the sexual tension between you two with a knife. Aren't you exhausted from hating each other all the time?" Albert asked as you and Race exchanged a glance at each other.

" I don't hate Race, he just annoys the living hell outta me."

"Yeah and Y/N is just too proud to admit she has a thing for me. Isn't that right doll?"  

You send a glare at Race but he winks back and sends a cocky grin in your direction.

" Don't call me doll Anthony."

There was no way you had a thing for Race, you've never met anyone more childish than Higgins. While you had a small crush on him when the two of you were younger, it quickly wore off when he discovered every little thing that ticked you off and decided to use it to his advantage.

"Hey doll, gimme a kiss for good luck?"

" There ya are doll, I was looking for your cute face all day!"

" Lookin mighty hot today Y/N, why so dressed up doll?"

A part of you was built up with frustration because of how hard it was to really annoy Race the way he annoys you. The other part that you never admitted out loud was that you two could've been best friends if he didn't flirt with every living thing on the planet. You two shared a lot of the same opinions and even had the same intense passion for gambling but that didn't mean anything now.

You ignore Race's comment and you speed up your pace, walking to your selling spot, leaving Race and Albert to rush to their own spots to sell their papes.

A couple of hours later, you finally sold your last pape and looked around for Race and Albert to rub it in their face and bask in the "glory" but it was short lived. You turned on a street corner and almost ran into Oscar Delancey.

"Woah, you alright there? Almost knocked you over," Oscar said, his usual loud and rude tone was gone and was replaced with honeyed words.

Oscar was rude to all the newsies in general but you managed to keep out of his way for the last year or two but your streak was now ruined. You saw the way he treated the rest of the newsies, calling Crutchie names that hurt more than getting soaked and pushing Romeo around since he was a bit smaller.  

"I'm fine, now if you'll excuse," You pushed past Oscar but you felt his rough hand grab your own tightly.

You whipped your head around and tried to tug him away but his grip remained. You glared at Oscar so hard that he even flinched slightly.

" Don't be so tense doll, I'm just trying to have a conversation. Unless you're too good for that," Oscar said bitterly.

The way he said doll sent a shiver down your back and you immediately thought of Race. His spot was close and you hoped that he would be making his way back and spot you in trouble.

" If you want to live to see the light of day never call me doll again."

" Y/N don't be like that. Why don't I walk you back home and we can discuss a date later."

"A date?" You asked as you knitted your eyebrows together in disbelief,"why on earth would I go on a date with you?"

You dug your heels into the ground as Oscar pulled you forward with his rough hands still around your wrist.

" I swear Oscar I'm going to-"

"Is there a problem here?"

You turn your head and there's Race, his cheeks slightly pink from the cold and his right fist clutching a single newspaper so tightly, you could see his knuckles turning white. Oscar lets go of you and you immediately massage the blood back into your hand. Race steps next to you and lightly pushes you behind him.

" Nothing that concerns you newsie, run along and go sell your papes. I'm just having a lovely chat with your friend Y/N," Oscar says as he looks at Race up and down in disgust.

Race glares at Oscar and holds his hand out to you. You look between Oscar and Race as you reach for Race's hand. He lets out a small sigh and he squeezes your hand to comfort you.

"Let's go Y/N, it's too cold to soak him today," Race mutters and walks in the opposite direction with you next to him. Before you can let out a 'thank you', Oscar decides to open his mouth.

" Whatever, I'll be back for your girl Race, just you watch. Can’t protect her forever.”

Race stops in his tracks and looks over to you, his face turning red with anger and you could've sworn you saw smoke coming out of his ears. You've never seen this side of Race before, for someone who's always so obnoxious and loud, he always learned how to keep his cool and never got mad. The hair on the back of your next stood up as you stepped in front of Race, blocking him from Oscar. Race adjusts the cap on his head and turns to face Oscar.

"Race no-"

" Wait here," Race says sternly as he throws his bag and newspaper on the ground next to you and starts rolling up his sleeves which makes you super flustered gosh that was hot before heading straight to Oscar who had a sly grin on his face.

Oscar says a taunt to Race, but he never finished his sentence. Race throws his fist back and bashes it into Oscar's cheek as your hands go to cover your mouth in shock. You shout Race's name as Race tackles Oscar to the ground.

You rush over as more people begin to stop and stare. Before Race can get another swing, you grab his hand that's in a fist and you use all of your weight to pull back, causing Race to stumble back, almost falling into you.

"Race let's go!"

He looks up at you and your heart aches a bit when you see his cheek red, turning purple. Race shares the exact opposite expression, his smile shining brighter than the sun and he starts laughing. You grab his hand which feels as cold as ice and you run with Race behind you, still laughing. After a while, you stop running and as you're catching your breath, Race leans against a brick wall, panting.

" I can't believe I punched Oscar Delancey. You saw that right?" Race says proudly as takes off his cap and runs his hand through his disheveled hair.

"You're...crazy! The Delancey's are gonna give you hell for that! W-What were you thinking Race?" You groan as you rub your temples, thinking of all the worst-case scenarios.You feel Race touch your shoulder as he turns you around to face him. His smile is gone and his eyes are filled with worry.

" Are you okay? Lemme see your hand."

You reluctantly raise up your wrist and you flinch in pain when Race presses down on it. You pull away and let out a string of curse words.

"Ow- Race! Seriously-"

"Sorry sorry jeez! You know, I would appreciate a thank you instead of you yelling at me like usual."

" Fine! Thank you soo much Racetrack!"

"Wow, that sure did sound sincere!"

" Oh like you even know how to spell sincere!"

You didn't notice that with every sentence the two of you shot back to each other, you each would take an alarmingly closer step next to each other.

"Race I- really thank you. You didn't have to beat Oscar up -but you did and if you didn't show up back there then I would've been in deep shit. You're a good guy and I'm sorry if I ever made you feel like I hated you.

You thought you had just imagined Race's eyes looking down at your lips but when he did it again, you knew he was up to something.

"Jesus Race why are you looking at me like that?I'm trying to apologize and here you are....gawking at me!"

" Because....because you're beautiful when you're angry," Race says quietly and your face softens.

You shake your head as you take a step back," Don't do that Race."

"Do what doll?" Race teases as he steps closer to you, your back pressed against the wall and his arm leaning next to you, caging you in.

You weren't stupid, you knew exactly what Race was doing. Race could flirt his way out of the law but there was no way he was going to win this battle. You pushed him back playfully and made a 'tsk' noise with your mouth.

" Albert's wrong you know. There's no sexual tension or chemistry between us and whatever you think is going to happen with you...and me...it just isn't going to happen today."

Race gives his signature smirk and stuffs his hands in his pocket," So you're saying you're not going to kiss me today- but in the future, you will?"

You tilt your head to the side as if you were thinking but you already knew your answer,"Hm let me think."

You walked over to Race and you placed both of your hands on his shoulders. Race tried to hide his smile as you started to lean in towards his lips but at the last moment, you brushed your lips against his cheek instead.  You pulled away and this time, you wore a cocky grin on your face.

" Aw doll, you love me I know you do. You don't have to hide it from me."

"If you don't want another bruise, I suggest you don't call me doll."

hey there! first off lemme just plug the great and useful site stagedork, which i use as a brit far from broadway to enjoy musicals. second let me say i absolutely love being asked for recommends but since this is an art blog, sometimes i really can’t find a way to spin asks into something i can draw a response to - so if ppl ever want to just chat or send me ‘get to know me’ questions or ask for recommendations, please send them to me over at @politelyintheknow !!! that way if ppl are just following me for art they don’t have to deal with huge walls of text from me.

my favourites right now are the spongebob musical, based on the long running cartoon spongebob squarepants. it’s awesome because it has an original storyline and is not in any way cringey or awkward looking on stage – in fact, it is absolutely beautiful! the characters are humanised so they all look like very cute and colourful trendy hipsters, not foam mascot costumes. there is a cast album from the chicago trial run, which can be found on spotify! (note there are a few cast members on this chicago album who did not transfer to broadway.)

another one i love is amelie, based on the french movie of the same name. it is a very lovely show though only had a very short broadway run. i prefer the LA trial run to the broadway version, and i think the LA can be watched on stagedork. the broadway cast album is available on spotify also! it’s a sweet and gentle love story about a weird and awkward girl who likes to meddle in other people’s lives. it starts philippa soo of hamilton fame, and the lovely adam chanler-berat of next to normal!

i am also currently very into once on this island, which is basically a sort of caribbean retelling of the little mermaid, telling the story of a black peasant girl in the french west antilles who falls in love with the mixed race, light skinned son of the rich hotel owners. it’s got…meddlesome gods, wonderful wonderful music and a lot of tragedy that makes you cry, but also joyful songs that make you dance. it’s currently running a revival on broadway and there are several cast albums you can listen to! youtube annoyingly has a region block on the 1990 broadway cast recording to me, so i’ve been listening to the london west end cast recording.

apart from these main ones, i also like the ever popular newsies (which you can watch a proshot of on netflix!), come from away, the story of a town that hosted thousands of diverted plane passengers following the 9/11 attacks (despite the premise, it’s a very hopeful story despite the tragedy), and waitress, which is about a pregnant piemaker who has an affair with her gynecologist. bad as that sounds, it’s another terribly sweet and lovely story with songs by the very cool sara bareilles! most of these musicals i’ve done fanart for (some definitely more than others!)
