part 7 of season 2, episode 12 TREAT MAGNUS BETTER “you are not your own” continued
91. I forgot about this scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
92. oh yes because herondales have it so hard 🙄
Tumblr media
93. I meant this actual scene existed but I did forget the other two gifs as well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
94. these scenes are so cringe
95. she’ll smile when she finds out you’re family
Tumblr media Tumblr media
96. I just hope people know they aren’t related
97. well valentine is known to lie and clary is conceited so they have similarities. but Valentine attempts to think with his brain and clary doesn’t
Tumblr media
98. Im sorry but what did Izzy expect when she went through Raphael’s sister Rosa? that’s literally the opposite of getting Raphael off your back
99. Simon: who is this old woman????
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
100. Simon: ah shit I’m not about that kidnapping life I’ve been through it myself
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
101. foreshadowing, neat
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
102. Simon actually feels bad
Tumblr media
103. Izzy: I’m back bitches so I don’t have time to play nice
Tumblr media
104. picture time 📸
Tumblr media
105. don’t be mad when Raphael comes swinging
Tumblr media
106. I honestly don’t like this storyline they did. because Izzy knows that Raphael has one living family member alive and that’s his sister Rosa. I just don’t agree with it at all. was it bad that Raphael gif her phone so he could kill clary? maybe in a way but Raphael tried many times to not give Izzy blood so she could heal naturally. and it’s not like Izzy and clary were talking at the time. they would balk be better without clary and jace around. I don’t feel Raphael went out of his way to hurt Izzy like she is doing to him
107. Alec: thinking and he looks hot doing it
I really hate how jace just dismisses him. is it crazy? absolutely but Alec has hard evidence and jace is like nah don’t trust him. “this is valentine” someone shut jace up right now. if this were clary, he would be running in to save her. if Alec treated clary the way jace treats Magnus, he wouldn’t ever leave alec be. Jace has no business or right telling Alec just trust me valentine is always ten steps ahead. it’s not Alec’s fault if you used to believe a villains every word. I can’t believe that Alec never fought back and went off on jace or Magnus too. Alec and Magnus are seriously too kind
VALENTINE WOULD NOT KNOW INTIMATE DETAILS AND REAL MAGNUS WOULD NOT ACT AS “MAGNUS” DID HE LOVES ALEC AND WOULD TOUCH HIM MORE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
stopping at 108 and will continue part 8 tomorrow and yes I did that on purpose and we will be starting with Magnus’s torment so brave thyself

Reasons I dislike Clary (her character)
(Please, no hate. This was written at 1am because I was honestly trying hard to figure out why I disliked this character...This is in order of probable reasons)
1.  Disclaimer: My first impression of Clary was Kat’s terrible acting in season 1 of the Shadowhunters TV show (she got better, but season 1 was bad)
2. She’s a “relatable” character that I can’t relate to: I don’t go to clubs, I’m not skinny and complaining about it all the time, my mom isn’t a young hipster artist who’s more like a friend, I don’t have guys fawning over me left and right, I don’t make impulsive decisions when I don’t know what I’m doing & when I do it doesn’t magically work out
3. I hated the way she treated Alec: she never respected his opinion because it wasn’t what she wanted to hear, she lied to him telling him that his parabatai had called him a weak coward and then she taunted his homosexuality and used it against him!!!!!  On this note, I never liked that she was the cause of Jace and Alec fighting and she was the reason Jace got distracted and left Alec to protect him from the Greater Demon, nearly getting him killed.
4. I never liked the way she treated Simon: he was the underdog who was actually very relatable. She just let him believe they were in a relationship and never told him her feelings which he deserved. This was her basically using him and after the kiss in the Seelie Court, she didn’t prioritize him and she just let him disappear. Then she was using him again by putting an unpredictable mark on his forehead.
5. Her entire character was framed as someone not really knowing what she was doing but acting like she did and yet she had the expert solution to every problem over Shadowhunters with a lot more experience than her--- this never sat well with me.
6. Her archetype is too goddamn perfect. She has a loving mom and dad-figure who got thrust into a world that she didn’t know that wasn’t her fault (so her naivity is justified). She is so perfect as the caring best friend, the worried determined daughter and the fighter who has a natural skill and power (that’s better than everyone else’s) which makes up for everything. And despite the fact she uses it recklessly and doesn’t even know how to use it, it just magically works out for her in the end. It’s just too “good” & all of her attributes fall one way. It isn’t dynamic or different or interesting.
7. I didn’t ship Clace from the beginning. Her continuing attraction to him (although there was an angel blood explanation) always felt creepy and wrong. Their relationship- again -isn’t dynamic or different or interesting. The only “thing” they had was the forbidden crap of being brother and sister and once that was solved, they are just a “perfect couple” who showed each other hope and bravery in a time they were both struggling...not original or interesting or compelling enough for me to care. Sidenote: I only liked Jace once we got more of his backstory and his POV. Honestly, I care more about Jace’s journey but whenever he related it to Clary being his savior, I cringe...what the heck did she actually do? Inspire you with her rashness and selective care for her loved ones?
8. People forgave her/liked her because they realized she was useful. Her redemption/reasons that people admired her felt like they were because of things beyond her control such as who she was as Valentine’s daughter and what her powers were-which were just dropped in her lap.
9. I didn’t like that when she didn’t get her way, she did stuff anyway and caused problems. (This was probably supposed to be empowering but it came off as bratty and entitled)
10. All of the hero worship. Guess what? The Angel Raziel killed Valentine; Jace killed Sebastian (1st time); Magnus found the book and woke up Jocelyn; Simon retrieved Glorious; She didn’t stab who she was supposed to with Glorious; She got herself and Jace captured and injured at the Citadel battle; She could never have survived Edom alone without the FIVE other people with her. (The only thing I give her is the manipulation and final stab to Sebastian- and the only reason she was in the position to do so was because he was obsessed with her, not any feat of hers)
11. She was always overreacting in her relationship! Why was everything life and death? Jace walked out once and he didnt talk to her that much that day...and she got pissed at him and started doubting their relationship. Hey, Clary, maybe he was going through something that has nothing to do with you! Not everything is about you! Don’t get me started on the reason she rejected his proposal...it was selfish and an overreaction but I will say it was in character.
12. Her character was all about getting her mom back and loving her mom. However, when Jocelyn returned, she gave her the cold shoulder and yelled at her as if she knew everything! What disrespect to her mother! (This might’ve been intending to be an interesting twist in her motivation, but again, it came off bratty and entitled and whiny)
13. I didn’t like the idea that the reason why Izzy and Clary didn’t like each other was jealousy.

Shadowhunters 3x13 Review
Okay, I didn't write one of these because it was a total meh and I hoped this one would be better, but, boy, was I wrong. Here we go
First thought: Jordan looks like a homeless person. Please, brush your hair, dude!
Ugh, this Heidi person is soooo annoying. Does she have a plan or does she just like stirring shit up? Also, does becoming a vampire give you skills in acrobatics?
Am I supposed to believe this phyco has been at large for a while, has been killing mundanes and werewolves and the Clave doesn't give a fuck? Like, I know in the Institute they're busy with Clary and her return, but is no one worried about this stuff happening right in front of their faces? If Izzy is so concerned with helping Downworlders, she can start by helping catch this girl.
"You would have done the same for me" Izzy, you've known him for like 3 months.....
Why are these reunions so underwhelming? Given the way he was grieving, I would have thought he would be the happiest person in the world when he saw her again. Instead we got a meh hug.
Again the show is trying to make me dislike Clary just because they're treating her like the most special girl out there when she's mediocre at best and just has the protagonist's pass.
Wow! Izzy changed her clothes and did her hair really quickly, which makes me wonder like....is this all happening in the same day?
Why would Izzy tell Magnus about her returning addiction if she's trying to hide it from Alec when there's a 99.9% chance Magnus would tell Alec everything. Especially considering how things ended up when he hid it from Magnus? Is there really no other Warlock she could ask? Jace and Luke can take a portal for an unsolicited mission, but God forbid Magnus uses it to help one of his friends.
There were a lot of scenes in this episode that felt like they were put in just so they could pass the 42 minute mark. Most of said scenes were between Clary and Jace. Sorry, I don't really care about this Lucifer/Archangel Michael stuff, because all the fluffy bullshit makes it boring.
The Clace sex scene was cringe. Like, cringe AF. It looked like they were doing it separately and someone taped it, cut it and put the two videos together.
Man, Maryse really did a full 180°. It seems like along with her runes, from the Clave they had taken her personality too.
Let me get this straight, Luke has been in love with Jocelyn for 20+ years. She's the reason he "betrayed" his parabatai. He waited for her all this time and when she's dead he gets over her in like 2 weeks (how much time passed since Jocelyn died?) goes to make out with a woman he knows shared Val's ideology for real. Okay.....
I have to say, the most interesting part for me was the werewolf/vampire conflict, which is a huge surprise. Alisha's acting was steller.
There was a severe lack of Magnus and Alec in this episode. Which on one hand is great, because I don't have to watch them make out awkwardly, but on the other, it just shows how insignificant they are to the story. Alec also acted extremely OOC in my opinion, especially when he was trying to hide the fact that he knew about Izzy's 'accident'.
I actually liked the cliffhanger! It was very well done and it definitely has my curiosity. Like, I'm actually wondering if Jordan will survive. I mean, he probably will, but if I didn't know, I would be tuning in next week for sure.
This is imo one of SH's weakest episodes. It was a total filler in terms of the main storyline aka the one we're supposed to care the most about, the acting was subpar and the scenes that were supposed to be the most emotional turned out to be stale and forced. Soooo, let's hope for the best next week!

Shadowhunters S3 Ep 1 Recap
Warning: Spoilers ahead....
So I’ll start this recap off with my favorite (because, duh) MALEC:
Malec
Alec was very interested in touching his boyfriend’s things this episode. Lol, he was all ‘little sniff here’, ‘little touchy there.’ It was very cute.
Alec also tells his boyfriend, “I’ve always dreamed of meeting someone like you” and pretty much made up his mind right then and there that Magnus is more important than going to Idris to move forward in his career. Like, Alec has always been a solider, ready to make a difference in his career but that was because he was so afraid of allowing himself to love a man in the open that he thought his career was everything. This is such character development. Crying.
Malec is life. Sorry not sorry. I said what I said.
Magnus was such a precious gem this episode. He was so hurt about not being high warlock anymore that he tried to put on a brave face to Alec, which in turn only ended up hurting Alec’s feelings. So after a wonderful discussion and smooch the two realized that they are it for each other and that discussing feelings is more than okay.
POOL HALL DATE NIGHT BITCHESSSS. YASSS.
Alec was so passive aggressive in his sass at the pool hall. I love it. Also, Magnus admitted he wants his man to stay where he is and not go to Idris. Yes sir, use them words to express your love.
Luke/Mia:
Mia had like 3 lines this episode and she slayed them all. I love her character so much and her concern for Simon is real. Only one this episode to wonder where he disappeared to. True concern.
Luke and his partner are so funny. They had this really weird Twilight moment at the store and I could hear Bella’s voice screaming “I know you’re a vampire.” Lol, I cringed but what can ya do.
So, now his partner knows about all the dirty little shadowhunter realm. Honestly, he could’ve kept denying, not like she got proof. But I guess for her safety she should know. Now they can be all badass together.
The rest of the cast:
Simon got branded by the Seelie queen after singing her a wonderful song. It was random and hella suspicious. Don’t trust that lil girl.
Clary and Jace were giving me some twilight moments as well this episode, especially in the cemetery. Made me laugh. Also made me laugh at the end when she was supposed to be all badass against that demon.
Clary is all shadowhuntered up now, and she’s been hailed this grand hero for killing her father and not making a wish...blah blah blah. Honey got lucky and still made a wish. :/
Lol, Izzy was all like “I’m so proud of you, how could you have resisted making a wish...like you didn’t even wish to end all war or end world hunger.” And Clary’s just standing there like “Yeah.” But internally you know she was thinking “Bitch stop guilt tripping me because I brought that blond cheeto back to life instead of doing something that would benefit the world.”
Then there was some gross stuff. Looks like Lilith is on the scene and she got some bird demon to break a dude’s jaw and spit red goo in his mouth. Ewww. Talk about no-no.
And Magnus did this really extra and cute spin thing before sitting down. I love my extra bi baby.
Isabelle is still smart and badass. She met a sexy ass doctor as well. Mhmm, you go girl.
Raphael is suspicious as fuck.
Magnus is perfect. Mia is perfect. Isabelle is perfect. Not sure if Lydia even exists anymore. Clace still makes me cringe. Simon is safe for now. And I can’t wait to see more.

So, according to spoilers, ep 302 should be an awkward Clace/Saia double date, but it’s Matt who apparently “killed the whole ep.” I wonder if this will be a mirror opposite of 206/207, where all that Malec did was go on a date and boink, while everybody else did important, plot-driving stuff in the meantime. If in 302, Clace and Saia will be having fun while Alec (and possibly Malec) will be doing things that will actually move the plot forward. I hope so. Because if it’s just about Alec getting drunk and possibly embarrassing himself (and second-handedly me, too - I’m already cringing about that plot), then I’ll be really disappointed.
Or, Alec’s the Head of the Institute, give him actual stuff to do, 2k17!

Malec vs Clace
You know what - it isn’t a competition. If Clace was being portrayed by two actors with actual chemistry, I’m sure I would enjoy watching it. I mean, I liked the movie version well enough.
Yes, Malec is my favourite ship, but that doesn’t mean I don’t also really enjoy Raphael/Izzy, Simon/Maia, Jace/Maia. Heck, even Jonathan/Clary is working for me in a very disturbing this-is-so-messed-up way. Climon didn’t work for me not because of lack of chemistry but because I felt they would work better as BFF because Simon was more invested in the relationship than Clary was.
Liking Malec and not feeling Clace are not correlated events. It actually puzzles me when I get/see stuff like “oh if only the Malec fans and Clace fans would get along” or “oh I wish the Malec fans weren’t such bitches to Clace fans”. Honey, if Malec didn’t exist in this show, I STILL wouldn’t be shipping Clace. My main ship would probably be Rizzy or Simon/Maia.
You can send hate and wank my way all you like, but my opinion remains the same - show Clace doesn’t work for me. It is probably a combination of factors - lack of natural chemistry, lazy acting, lazy writing even. They feel more like brother and sister than lovers. Even from interviews between Dom and Kat, I don’t feel that they spend much time with each other. I feel like the actors and writers are going “hey, it’s two straight actors playing a straight couple - how difficult could it be?” The answer is: surprisingly difficult.
Malec on the other hand, works even though both actors are straight because they work very hard at it. Both of them are talented, and they know how important the ship is to the queer community, so they put in a lot of extra effort. It helps that they are actually friends and they hang out outside of work.
As a singer, when I sing as a group or in a duet, my music director always tells us we have to “hook” the other voices, and I believe it’s the same with acting and chemistry. What we see as onscreen chemistry is about two actors meeting each other heart/mind/soul with matching intensity.
When and if they finally get their act together and start delivering Clace as a believable relationship, believe me I will be as happy as the next Clace fan. Then I wouldn’t feel like I wanted to fast-forward through all their scenes. (Lack of Clace chemistry is the number 1 reason I almost decided not to bother with Shadowhunters.) Until then, I continue to cringe with second-hand embarrassment.
Peace out.

PSA: I JUST FORGET THAT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS AND IM NOT INTENTIONALLY BEING A BITCH BUT HOW COULD YOU SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT SHOW MALEC ITS LITERALLY PERFECT DONT COME AT ME THANKS
I was just minding my business, trying to find some content to do my season two wrap up (which has been a bitch to do) and I saw some Reddit post about how show Malec doesn’t have any chemistry-
(this is an old Reddit post I saw in the past and it reignited my annoyance and I need to vent)
AND IM SORRY BUT WHAT
EXCUSE THE FUCK OUT OF MY GODDAMN FRENCH BUT WHAT
NO CHEMISTRY??????? ARE WE WATCHING THE SAME SHOW ARE WE ALL TALKING ABOUT MALEC BECAUSE I THINK NOT
like everyone is entitled to their wrong opinions but it’s funny because I always forget since I love to stay in my anti cc tags that some people aren’t a fan of Malec LIKE HOW CAN YOU NOT BE or the people that claim book Malec is better. because oh let’s not have communication, be biphobic, be toxic, that’s fun and has great representation as if it’s that easy to have good lgbtq+ representation and media portrayal
I mean I get the show can be super cringe and stuff but never Malec, never Raphael, never Izzy, never Simon, and never Maia. these characters make the show better
also how do you explain the popularity with not just the show but the books???? I’m sorry but CC didn’t get popular all by herself right away. for someone who wanted to kill Alec off and treated her first lgbtq+ couple atrociously, she would have been probably ruined (or least done with that series. I’m pretty sure Malec has the most fans when it comes to her writing but I don’t know anything) if she killed alec or completely destroyed Malec.
we can all agree that book Malec is shitty and lazy writing and this is just a personal opinion but I feel her books only got more popular when the show started and Malec was the feature and stars. the eldest curses is and was a money grab. you can tell she didn’t want to focus on Malec until it made her some money. if you told me to read the books first, there is no way in hell I would have finished them. I wouldn’t get through the first book
and it does bother me and lowkey (high key though) frustrate me when people say show Malec is forced and doesn’t have chemistry because what are you watching?????
everyone is entitled to their opinions obviously but you cannot tell me that alec and Magnus don’t have chemistry in the show. you can shit on the show all you want and be toxic book fans I really don’t care but don’t say that show Malec doesn’t have any chemistry
and I would rather be around show fans any day compared to book fans. they take everything so personal and act as though CC is untouchable and is some creative genius who can’t do wrong. they mostly all prefer book clace and think everything that happens in the books is perfectly okay
(yes it’s a little ironic I’m going on about this but I certainly don’t go on their tags and shit on them for their opinions. I safely do it here where I can vent with others who slightly agree) (I’m not brave enough to go on those tags or to comment on every Reddit post I don’t agree with) (I have chronic pain so energy isn’t guaranteed for me lmao)
I’ve never seen show fans ever being toxic and we are happy in our somewhat cringe frustrating writing but perfect side characters world. it’s also okay to like both versions of the story but TO TELL A LIE NO WAY NO HOW
the only thing about this universe that makes it likable is literally show Malec, Izzy, Raphael, Simon, Maia and the stories and emotions they present. and if you want a perfect adaption, go watch the movie that didn’t take off after the first one and then ask yourselves why. I’m just saying that if it wasn’t for the show, I never would have gotten the books. I genuinely do think that the shadowhunter universe probably got more popular due to the show and thanks to the brilliant acting of everyone except for clace (no offense to the actors but it was the worst part for me) (it’s nothing against them but I don’t find their acting that believable) (but I hated clace from the start so there was nothing to be done about that)
I mean, at the end of the day, you like what you like and I like what I like and I don’t even know where I was going with this. shit on the show all you want but leave the beautiful and talented acting of show Malec alone please
THIS IS WHY I STAY IN MY SAFE PLACE LMAO

Ep 216
I liked it better than I thought I would :)
First the “was good but not all that interesting” part:
When Maia’s not frothing at the mouth and Simon’s not mooning over Clary, they’re actually likable. Give me more of this Maia, strong and self-confident, not over the top aggressive and violent. And I think that Clary’s not good for Simon if he as a character becomes so much more palatable away from her, but that’s just my opinion, I’m rather ambivalent about him in general, so...
ETA: Forgot the Sebastian and Valentine parts. Interesting but not really re-watch worthy for me. Though Alan and Will were excellent.
Then the “let’s establish a ship” part:
I liked Clace in this episode. When the writers are actually focusing on Jace and Clary as a couple and not as two sides of a love triangle, they are lovable. I hope we’re now done with the will-they-won’t-they. Please, start working towards them as a couple instead of this back and forth.
And now the “that’s the stuff I’ll be re-watching!” part:
Alec and Robert. You know, I thought that Izzy would be the salty one, it’s interesting that Alec took Robert’s cheating the hardest out of all of them. As something absolutely inexcusable. I wonder if it’s a foreshadowing of some kind. Alec wouldn’t give Robert an inch, when he forced himself to thank Robert, it felt like teeth-pulling.
Alec and Izzy. I love so much that Alec confides in her, that they talk about important stuff. It actually gives them both something to do since they had no storyline at all in the books besides being the boyfriend and girlfriend.
Alec and Jace!!! I loved that Jace took Alec’s side even against Imogen! Grandma or not, Alec’s Jace’s parabatai. And Alec could feel Jace’s pain - foreshadowing much? ;)
The last “it was so pretty!” part:
The portal and the portal shards, that was so cool.
Idris. Holy smokes, so much prettier than in 106, that excursion was so cringe-worthy that I still can’t bring myself to re-watch it.
The “thinky-thinky” addendum:
If Magnus gets mad at Alec for not telling him about the sword AND Alec will have to apologize frickin’ again, then I hope Magnus remembers how he helped steal the Mortal Cup from Alec’s care in S1 - which then almost landed in Val’s hands - a thing he still didn’t tell Alec about OR apologized for. Dude, you don’t have one lame leg to stand on when it comes to lying about the whereabouts of Mortal Instruments!
So, either it’s bad writing or Alec truly is the only one who feels anything important through the parabatai bond. Because he could barely breathe with Jace gone in 201-202 whereas Jace wasn’t affected by being cut off from his parabatai at all. He could feel Jace leaving the ship’s barier but Jace couldn’t feel Alec DYING. And now a cut on the hand - and Alec feels it in a different REALM. Bad writing or Alec being “sensitive” like Jace said?
I think it’s all headed towards Alec giving up his position and going back in the field - like Robert pointed out, if Alec wanted to be the Head of the Institute, he needed to stay at the Institute. I think Alec gives it up, Maryse takes over and Robert becomes the new Inquisitor. And Alec might start working harder on the Shadowhunters-Downworlders relations and he basically becomes the middleman.
