The "Better Half" ; A Poly KiriBaku x Reader Fanfic
Enjoy the series | one two three four five
You walked into the room, flustered from Kirishima, and excited to check out your name that was all over social media. You even had your own Facebook Fan Club Group. Quickly, your mom gave you juice and sat you down, wanting to talk about everything.
She sat by your side on the 2-person-couch, scrolling through fan art, fan group stuff, video footage, and such. I was already on famous birthdays, and had fan accounts on twitter.
You had gained thousands of people who had found and leaked your social media accounts, and had gotten hundreds of dms from classmates, teammates, and family friends. Everyone wanted a piece of the action.
“My baby!! With popularity like this, UA is bound to hear about you!! Gosh, my baby is going to go off and become the World’s Greatest Superhero!! The next All Might!” Inko excitedly fangirled over you, something rare in fact.
Over the years, with all your academic and physical accomplishments, the three of you had gotten so used to Inko ignoring you to give praise to Izuku, since he got none from others while you were practically worshipped for everything you did.
Yet now, as Izuku stared at you two from the kitchen, he saw how happy Inko truly was about you. How her eyes lit up, and her smile was bright. She was practically glowing. As a mother, this was how you were supposed to act.
But with Izuku, this never happened, no matter the act his mom put on. The highest grade he got was A-‘s, and never got all-A-honor-roll like you.
He never had won a science fair like you, entered a states-level championship like you, gotten 1st place at a swim meet, or been voted Class President every year in middle school.
Izuku realized now how much his mother truly wanted to celebrate everyone of your milestones. How she wanted to be that mom with the perfect child, and shout it to the world. The only reason she didn’t was because of Izuku’s feelings.
Because Izuku didn’t do anything remotely close to you. Izuku was the reason his mother couldn’t be happy with her perfect daughter. It was because Izuku was so useless that neither of you had ever become close to one another.
When Inko was finally done, she sent you up the stairs to bed, saying to get rest for your big day of training tomorrow. “Hey mom, is-“ Izuku poked his head out to talk, only to get interrupted by Inko.
“One second sweetie. Yuno’s mom Michi is calling me. She’s one of the cool moms!” Inko smiled, quickly bringing the phone to her ear and racing out of the room. Izuku sighed sadly before turning and going upstairs to you. He walked into your room and leaned against the doorway.
“Soooo… What did you do while you were out?” Izuku asked, grinning as you continued to text on your phone. You brought it away from your face, fake-thought, and shook your head.
“Just rode around for awhile. Why?” You asked, looking up at your brother. Izuku was taken back, surprised by your secrecy. Since birth, you two had told each other almost everything, but now… “Come on, I know something happened.”
Izuku began to walk over and sit on your bed when you looked up at him angrily. “Izuku, nothing happened! Stop being such a creep!” You harshly yelled, very annoyed by him prying. You did not want to talk to Izuku about boys, especially now.
Izuku stopped, shocked and hurt by your angry words. “I… okay then. Hey, I was thinking that maybe after school we could-“ He was interrupted by you looking up from your phone again, very agitated.
“I’m sorry, my schedule is packed tomorrow. I have training with my new coach and then I’m hanging out with a friend. Can it wait?” You asked as he felt his heart shatter, the wind being knocked out of him.
“Y-Yep.” Izuku whispered as he began to walk out. “Wait, Izuku!” You yelled, jumping up and running to him in the doorway. Izuku turned, happy to get your attention. Now would be when you would either apologize or want to reschedule plans for another time.
“Did you get my homework from Math and Science?” You asked, fidgeting with a pen while you stood there. “No, I’m sorry. I was just so shaken. up and I-“ You nudged Izuku angrily.
“Baka!! You were shook up? Gosh Izuku, I ruin my favorite relationship for you and you can’t even help me out?” You slammed the door in front of him and locked it. Izuku could hear you return to your bed, plop down, and eat another Pocky stick.
Snap! Crunch.
Izuku stood there, unable to believe what had just happened. Did you just… No. You were just having a mood swing again. It was no big deal… right?
Izuku stood there, listening to you talk to your friends on the phone. You giggled, laughed, and gossiped like normal. It was as if your twin brother hadn’t even gone to the hospital that day.
Izuku began to walk downstairs, only to hear his mother on the phone as well. Nobody cared, and nobody wanted to talk to him. Izuku began to waddle back to his bedroom and open his phone.
0 new messages. 0 new notifications. Just like usual, of course. Izuku began scrolling through the News, looking at all the articles about his sister, when a different article came up.
Teen suicide rate rises to all time high of 19%
Immediately, Izuku began sobbing as he brought a pillow to his face. Izuku had always had tendencies to not want to live, but had also always been scared of death. He had nothing to protect himself with after all.
He wanted to die, but the very thought of it scared him. About to fall asleep, Izuku heard a ping on his phone. How unusual… Izuku brought it to his face, happy to see it was a text from you. ‘Need 2 talk’.
Seconds later, you walked in silently and laid on the rug at his feet. “The first time… when I was attacked, ya know? I ran into the city and got lost. I was terrified. So, since I like high places, I climbed a rusty iron ladder up over 20 stories to the roof.”
You explained, closing your eyes and reimagining the breathtaking view.
“It was the red brick office building, the one with the faded Insurance logo on the front, and the rusty ladder on the right side. Gosh, you should have been there Izu. The wind was in my hair, and I was taller than the birds. I felt so connected to it…”
You trailed off, once again getting lost in your thoughts of the view.
“An-An-Anyways, back to what I was saying!! After I got attacked, I ran all over. And then I met All Might! H-He talked to me about becoming a hero, and then tonight, he offered to train me!!” You smiled at Izuku as he gave you his best fake-grin.
“I’m going to start training with him everyday until the UA entrance exam, and then I’ll get in!!” You jumped up excitedly as Izuku finally let his smile break apart. “But… what about Mom and I?” He asked you as your grin softened.
“Well, I know I’ll miss you, but I need to learn about going on my own. We’re going to be adults very soon, and I need to separate now. Plus, it’ll only be four years, and I’ll be living at home. We won’t be strangers.” You explained, but he wasn’t convinced.
“So… you really want to go to UA?” He asked, staring you right in the eye, hoping you’d deny. Izuku hoped more than anything that you would say no, and that you wouldn’t leave him. You wouldn’t abandon him, all alone while you pursue your dreams.
“Yes Izuku, I really do. I really think it’ll be good for me. I know you don’t think it’s good but I do.” You began to protest as Izuku stood up. “It might be good for you but what about us? What about you and me?!” Izuku cried out as you turned to him.
“To hell with that! I have dreams Izuku! My dream is to go to UA and become a hero! I was always going to do that with my life!” You fought back, growing defensive. “That was my dream too!” Izuku yelled as you suddenly realized what this was about.
“It’s not my fault you’re quirkless Izu.” You murmured as Izuku began crying. “It’s not my fault either! I don’t want this Ichiko! You can’t leave! You’re all I have!” Izuku began sobbing as you became cold. “Then find something else Izuku. We’re not children anymore.”
You stormed out, slamming your bedroom door behind you. Izuku stood there, frozen with emotion. How had a simple talk gone so bad? He just needed you to know how he felt. You just wanted to talk to him about the future.
Most importantly, you twol had argued. You two never argued. It just wasn’t like you to fight, especially in such a screaming sensation like that.
Izuku’s mind kept replaying the last sentence you had told him before storming out. ‘Then find something else Izuku.’ That had obviously been you telling him to stop being so attached to you.
You had said something about not being children anymore, and now that Izuku thought about it, it all made sense. The way you and Bakugo had become romantic, the way the childhood bullying had intensified, and the way you were slowly drifting away from him.
You were growing up, while Izuku was staying in his childhood. He was still pretending like he could become a hero with his stupid future notebook, and trying to exchange secrets like kids while you went on dates with boys and were training with All Might.
Deku just felt abandoned, sad, and lonely. The people he had put his love in had left him sad and heartbroken. He shut his door and covered himself in blankets, trying to fall asleep when he got visions.
“It was the red brick office building, the one with the faded Insurance logo on the front, and the rusty ladder on the right side.” Izuku got up, frazzled and horrified. Why… Why did he remember those words specifically?
Down the road from the town square, just look for it. Oh god, Izuku had to get out and get some air. He needed to get these horrible thoughts out of his head. He quickly got up, put on his sandals, and ran out.
“I need to get some air Mom!” He yelled at her, but as he looked back to the living room, he saw her sitting at the table, talking away on the phone. Nobody will even notice… Nobody will ever care if I’m gone.
The night passed when you woke up to your alarm clock, like every other day. This day was different, in fact, today was exciting. Over 1000 notifications shown on your phone, you had your first training session with All Might, and tonight, you would get to see Kirishima. You were ecstatic to say the least.
You put on a new uniform that wasn’t coated in slime, brushed your curls, and did your light makeup of mascara, blush, and tinted chapstick. You quickly ran downstairs, bag in hand, to see your tired brother sitting on the couch.
You grabbed him and yourself a protein bar and ran out, waving to your mom. On the walk there, Izuku seemed tired and sluggish, as if he hadn’t slept well. You choose not to ask, not wanting him to grow anymore agitated after your fight the night before.
So you didn’t talk, simply walking the short 3 minute stroll to the gates of your junior high. As soon as you walked through the gates, you were bombarded with your friends, and other classmates crowding around you. In the mix of it, Izuku disappeared from your side.
The topics varied, from your best friends wanting to talk about Bakugou and your safety from the attack, to your admirers wanting to talk about how you defeated a villain, and then of course how it was to meet All Might. Behind a corner, you could see Bakugo glaring at you, watching.
You almost lost your voice throughout the day, talking up a storm with everyone who wanted to talk to you. You were a hero, popular in the media, and someone who radiated girl-power after yelling at Bakugou, the most feared student in the school.
Off in the corner of your eye, you saw Bakugo in the lunch line, ignoring his “friends” and staring off at you once again. Did he feel sorry? Did he miss you? Had he heard about everything? This had been the longest you had gone far without talking.
Lunch time was the first time you got some peace to yourself. You sat at the table with 10 of your good friends, finally able to talk about something good. Bakugo would have been there, but like usual, he was serving detention in the office.
You began eating your bento when Izuku came around the corner from a hallway. “Hey Ichiko, I’m not feeling well. I think I'm going to go home for the day.” You gave him a confused look as he smiled, as if trying to hide something.
“I’m just so tired, and shook up.” You nodded, understanding as Izuku went to leave, but turned back to you. “Just know that whatever happens isn’t your fault. I love you Ichi.” He waved and left, not giving you time to speak. Weird...
Your friends quickly joined you, and you were finally able to go back to normal conversation about teachers, boys, and of course your friend’s drama with their boyfriends or girlfriends. Life was simple, but unfortunately, lunch ended as soon as it started.
You began walking in the hall with one of your friends, going to class, when she began talking about boys. “Kano and I tried but we just didn’t work out. And then Hikaru, the one I told you about with the longer hair, told me that he has a boyfriend which just makes no sense. Like, he’s gay??”
You laughed at your friend's story as you began walking to class. “What about you? Now that Bakugo is out of the picture, who do you have your eye on?” She asked as you giggled, instantly being reminded of Kiri.
“Well, there’s this-“ Before you could say his name, Bakugo slammed the door from the detention room in front of you. “I fucking knew it! Who is it?! Who the fuck has black hair and it still just soooo attractive?!” He screamed, earning everyone’s attention.
“You like him enough to kiss him on the cheek! Huh?! Who the fuck is it?! I swear I’ll rip them to pieces!” Bakugo screamed as you looked at him, unable to comprehend how he knew about Kiri.
“How do you- You’re such a stalker! Were you following me last night?” You asked as Bakugo’s eyes widened. “Tell me who it is!” He screamed as you shook your head. “No! Stay away from me you creep!” You felt your friend put her arm around you and walk you away from him.
Bakugo sighed angrily, watching you walk away without him. With all the eyes in the hallway on him, he stormed off to his next class. You couldn’t help but feel confused. Was he jealous? Was he hurt? Why did you care so much? You missed him…
You walked through the rest of your classes, all eyes on you after being called out for having a mysterious guy friend. It felt strange and weird, yet at the same time you couldn’t wait to see Kiri tonight.
When you walked into your final class, a sense of emotion walked over you. The last day of junior high before high school… it felt so surreal and fake at the same time. You were excited for the future, but scared.
You gave flowers to your favorite teachers, hugged all your friends and classmates, and took many photos. You were just so excited and sad, it was very bittersweet to leave a place you had gone every day for 3 years.
The worst part was the memories. Here, you have become your own person. You had found your own style, your own clique of friends, and your identity. Here, you had realized that you would become a hero.
Yet again, everyday here had been spent with Katsuki by your side. Six school dances, three school festivals, 4 class field trips, and many times when you would hang out behind the school together.
Finally, the day was over, and you were able to walk out into your first second of Summer. Of course, all the thoughts of relaxation were interrupted by a friendly blonde man by the entrance.
You were walking out with your friends when one of them looked at something behind you. “Ichi… Do you know that man?” He asked as you turned to see All Might in his weak form, smiling and waving ecstatically.
You smiled, relieved, and nodded. “Yep, that’s my… uncle. Anyways, I’ll call you guys later. We have training to do.” You explained as a girl to your left smiled. “Ahh yes, you are a hero in the making according to Channel 5 News after all.”
You waved to your group before running over to All Might who leaned against the school gate. “Young Ichiko, you’re looking well after last night.” He grinned warmly as you nodded. “Yea, I’ve had a pretty… eventful day.” You smiled back as you began walking.
He explained to you how he would train you to the max in hopes of making you as powerful as possible for the entrance exam, and would even train you past that until you succeeded him. He also told you about how he was going to be a UA teacher, and would keep a close eye on you always.
You two walked to the quiet beach, and began. He made you move rocks with him standing on it, threw things at you with speed and made you stop them, and of course made you go underwater and control the oxygen to keep you from getting wet.
It was hard, eventful, and left you dramatically breathing, almost gasping for air. And yet, after, you weren’t done. He made you throw rocks into the air and sent them as far as possible. He made you manipulate the ground, and use it to make you faster.
You also began running miles on the road, All Might flying above you to shout empty commands and uplifting remarks. It was all hard, and you were so tired, but you would do anything to become a hero like him.
Finally, when it was over three hours after school, you fell to your knees, feeling your heartbeat in your eyes and like you were about to throw up. “Well, I guess we can stop here. That was a very good first day, I'm excited to see how you improve tomorrow.”
He grinned, sitting on a rock nearby. All Might stood and helped you back to your feet. “You look just pitiful. Come now, let me buy you some food.” All Might held onto your arm to keep you up as you both began to walk to a nearby café in town.
He bought you a sandwich and a smoothie, tipping the cashier a 20$ bill. Being the 1# hero in the world had its perks financially of course, and All Might was rolling in the dough.
You two walked to a park bench, and sat down happily. You had a lot of fun with All Might, and he enjoyed his time with you. He likes hearing about your life, and your crazy stories. He liked it when you talked about your friends, and your brother.
You were just talking about the one time your friend and you jumped off waterfalls in Hawaii and then had to run from a water snake when you got a text message from Izuku. Your face froze, and your heart rate accelerated.
“Young Ichiko, are you alright?” All Might asked, noticing your happy demeanor turn dark. You stared at your phone as you began shaking. “Oh god, Ichiko?! Are you hurt?” All Might asked as he turned to look at your phone screen. “Oh dear.”
“I’ll miss you.”
“Tell mom I love her.”
“Goodbye.”
Instantly, you quickly went to your tracking app that you had with Izuku and your mom, and looked at Izuku’s location. “He’s… just down the street from the town square. In the Kyoko Insurance Firm?” All Might asked, confused and worried like you. “No… he’s on the building I told him about.”
You jumped up and turned to All Might. “Can you fly?” You asked him as she shook his head. “I used up all my time for the day.” He explained as you began running into town.
“I just have to run.” You sighed and began running into town, ignoring the burning in your legs and keeping your eyes on your phone. Through the town square, deep into two alleyways, and then down the street. You could already see a small group forming at the base of the building, looking up.
You threw yourself onto the ladder and climbed as fast as possible to the top. It only took a minute before you were staring at your brother who stood on the edge. “You shouldn’t have come here Ichi. I already said goodbye.”
You began to step forward as he turned around to face you. “Izuku, don’t do this. I promise you, you don’t want to kill yourself.” You pleaded as he stared bullets. “My life is useless Ichiko. I’m not athletic. I’m not smart. I’m not powerful.”
You began crying, shaking your head as you heard All Might come up behind you. “Izuku, if you jump off this building I’ll jump too.” You threatened as he shook his head and laughed. “No you won’t. You’re not stupid. Your life is meaningful. You have a bright future Ichiko.”
The tears kept coming as you shook your head, pleading with him. “Izuku, how can I live the life we dreamed of without you?” You asked as he smiled warmly. “Live life to the fullest, and have no regrets. Live it for the both of us.” Before you could speak, Izuku leaned back off the building.
Like time was slowing down, you ran as fast as you could towards the edge of the building and reached for his hand. The look in his face showed peace as he closed his eyes. You let your arm reach for his, but we’re unable to reach.
As All Might watched this, he felt a rush in his blood as he grew to his hero-form and ran to you. Flying off the building, he was able to use his last ounce of energy to reach his hand around your waist and keep both him and you in the air.
Unfortunately for them both, it gave you a front row seat as you watched her twin brother fall to his death. You cupped your hands around your mouth, your eyes glued to his limp body that laid on the sidewalk.
Screams of horror and worry could be heard below as everyone ran to Izuku. Slowly, All Might lowered you to the sidewalk in the middle of the group. Instantly, you all were recognized. You dropped to your knees, unable to speak or move.
You lightly poked his arm, begging for a response. “I-Izu?” You gasped as blood began to fill uniform shirt. “No! Someone call an ambulance! Somebody, please!” You screamed as loud as you could, fighting against All Might who began to hold you back.
“Young Ichiko, there’s no use.” He whispered as you shook your head, trying your best to fight your way out of his grip. “No! No! He’s not dead! I need to help him, let me go!”
All Might finally twisted you around to face him and spoke to you. “He’s dead Ichiko! He’s dead, and I’m so sorry.” You began crying as you hugged him tightly. “Come now, let’s get you home. You shouldn’t have to see this.”
All Might began flying you home in his hero form, finally reaching your driveway. You could see that by then, your mother had run out, even leaving the door open on her way to the car.
With the sun setting in the background, All Might sat you on the front porch with him, and let you two sit in silence. Just as All Might was about to say something, dozens of cars pulled up to the street in front, allowing camera men and reporters to spill out.
Obviously, you should have known that the 1# hero and a media sensation in the same place would bring attention.
“Miss Midoryia, is it true that you witnessed your brother’s suicide?” One asked, not passing the curb to the house but filming you two. “All Might, how do you feel about not being able to save her brother?” Another man asked, trying to get his microphone as close to them as possible.
“I’ll get them out, do not-“ All Might was interrupted by someone rushing through the crowd. “Ichiko?! Ichiko?! Oh my god!” Kirishima pushed through the crowd and ran to you in a hurry. “Are you okay? Why are all these people here? Oh… All Might?”
When he and All Might made eye contact, All Might smiled warmly at you. “I can tell you’re in good hands. I’m going to get these reporters away from here. See you later Young Ichiko.”
He patted your head and smiled sadly before flying off. Sure enough, more than half the cars followed along. “Shh…Shh.” Kirishima wipes the tears from under your eyes lovingly.
He brought a blanket from your living room and held your hand. “I’m supposing you saw.” You whispered weakly, your voice shaking harshly as Kirishima nodded slowly. “Y-Yea. Oh Ichiko, I’m so sorry.” He wrapped his arms around you as you cuddled on the outdoor porch swing.
“You want to go inside?” Kirishima asked as you shook your head. “I can’t. It reminds me of him too much.” You explained as he sadly held you in his arms. You watched the sun set over the hills, and cuddled deeper into Kirishima.
It was until it grew dark, and you got a call from Mitsuki. Kirishima picked it up and held it to your ear. “Hey Baby. Your mom and I are going to be out for a while, but your mom ordered something pizza for the house for you to eat while we’re gone.”
Mitsuki explained as you nodded. “Okay. W-Wait, can you ask Mom if I can have a friend spend the night?” You asked as Kirishima’s eyes lit up. “She’s not here right now, but I’ll give you permission. It’s not safe for you to be alone right now sweetie.”
And with that, Mitsuki hung up. “D-Do you want to go inside?” Kirishima asked nervously with a blush, noticing you shivering. You nodded, and without even trying, Kirishima picked you up bridal style and brought you inside.
He sat you on the bar stool, and got you a glass of water from the kitchen. You smiled in a comfortable silence as small tears kept streaming down your face. “D-Do you want a tour?” You tried to smile as Kirishima leaned against the counter. “Of course.”
You got up and grabbed onto his arm as you walked around. “This is the kitchen, and living room. That small room over there is the plant room where all the sunlight is.” You showed him the smaller room with a music speaker and lots of windows.
Upstairs, you began to walk down the hallway. “Here’s my mom’s room, here’s the bathroom, here’s…” You turned to look into the All Might filled, grey room with a welcome sign on the front of the door.
Just thinking of it, you remembered just that morning when you had gone to talk to him. You had told him about your plans for UA, and he had gotten upset. He had been fearful about you two leaving each other. Did that have anything to do with him killing himself?
Seeing you were about to cry, Kirishima put his arm around your waist and pulled you close. You snapped out of it and began walking again. “This is the bathroom. You can shower whenever.” You both blushed as you got to your bedroom.
“Here’s my room.” You began to walk in, causing him to follow you. Your room was a large light painted room with a queen bed next to your huge window with a desk, a full-body mirror, and led lights. You had a big closet, and you had a lot of plants all around.
“Super cute.” Kirishima looked around your room before peering out the window. “There’s… a big tree right there.” He commented as you turned and smiled at him. “Good t know.” He played it off like it was nothing but you knew what he was talking about.
You sat on the bed together, resting your head on his shoulder. “It hurts…” You whispered, feeling the tears building up again. Everything you looked at seemed to remind you of him again and again.
“I know. And it will for a while, but it’s going to be okay. Things have a way of having a good ending, even if it’s bittersweet.” Kirishima tried his best to make you feel better, and in some way, it worked.
You grabbed a blanket and threw it over you two before laying back onto the bed. Kirishima slowly followed, embarrassed yet wanting to lay down with you. You cuddled against him with his back to the window, facing him and cuddling against him.
You two decided to turn on the tv in your room and give the airless tension with background noise. He wiped your tears, told you funny stories, and made you feel better. He was good at comforting you when you felt at your worst moment.
From the street, Katsuki stared up at the window as he sat on the street curb. He had tried to come by early when the driveway had been filled with reporters, but yet again, the black-haired douche was right there with you.
Now, he had tried to come check on you, cake in hand, when he saw you cuddling with Mr.-I-have-long-black-shiny-hair. Not only that, but in bed. At night. WITHOUT INKO THERE. Katsuki refused to be replaced for his girl by some extra.

UA High School.
One of Japan’s national high schools with a renowned hero course that produced some of today’s top heroes, like All Might and Endeavor. Anyone who aspires to be a great hero, one of the very best, aims to attend UA.
Chizu was no different. But it was surreal to be standing at the entrance of that oh so familiar ‘U’ shaped building, ready to begin her first day of training to become a hero.
Of course, it wasn’t easy. The last few years of her life in general haven’t been the greatest. But it was only more motivation for her to work hard to achieve her goal. Her mother, who was known as the Dark Magic Hero: Mysteria, had always supported her and had faith in her, even during her lowest moments with training her quirk. Now Chizu could only hope that her father would do the same, despite that she hadn’t been the most promising aspiring hero in training.
“Do you know what high schools you want to apply to?”
“I….wanna do a hero course...and I think UA is the best choice.”
“Chizu...we talked about this—”
“I’m never going to get any better if I don’t go to UA!”
“Chizu, why would you want to go to UA when you’ve chased out every trainer I’ve hired? You clearly aren’t that serious about it. I think you should expand your options beyond becoming a hero,” her father replied bluntly.
She didn’t know how to respond, too focused on trying to choke back the feeling of crying. It frustrated her that she felt this way, having had this conversation too many times before.
“Why do you want to be a hero, Chizu? What’re you gaining from being a hero?”
Chizu couldn’t look at him, her voice quiet in an attempt to have the words come out more smoothly.
“I-I just...wanna be like her. She overcame a lot to get where she was!”
“And you saw how that turned out for her. What makes you think you can avoid that kind of fate?”
“I mean, I think it’s possible—”
“Do you WANT to disappear and never be seen AGAIN CHIZU?”
Her lip started to tremble as she winced at his stern voice. Her voice was small, trying to be heard.
“Of course not but…”
“Then I need you to think logically about this and decide what you want to do. Don’t get upset about it.”
“I have,” Chizu reinforced, gritting her teeth. “And if being her isn’t enough for you, then I’ll be better than her!”
“Well,” her father only began to laugh. “You better get serious then, because I am not going to pay all that tuition for you to get kicked out like you did in middle school.”
She seethed at his words, knowing they were true but that he didn’t have to say it out loud. Take a deep breath, take a deep breath, take a deep breath...
“You’ll see! I’ll train every day and work hard to pass the entrance exams,” she promised.
“You better get a special recommendation if you wanna get in, then.”
“No, I want to work hard and earn the right to be there—”
“Hey, I’m letting you do what you want but you’re gonna do it how I tell you to...now go get a letter from your tutor...”
Sure enough, ten grueling months passed and Chizu took the entrance exams for students with special recommendations. Overall, she felt proud of herself for what she was to be able to do with her quirk, given her disadvantaged training circumstances. But getting to the practical exam, she wasn’t sure what she could show off was going to be enough. There were so many people with amazing and powerful quirks which they could control with ease as well as demonstrate a range of different abilities with them. She didn’t know if she could compete to stand out against these other kids her age.
But Chizu kept her promise that she made to her father and did her best.
Turns out, she was one of four students admitted to UA under special recommendations. She was placed in class 1-A with 20 total students in the class. She was hopeful to see a familiar face from the special entrance exam but she figured the odds would be slim.
She was currently speed walking down the hall, trying to locate her classroom. It was still early, approximately 15 minutes until homeroom would start. She couldn’t tell if she was just really really anxious or really really excited to start a hero course at her top choice school with 19 other hero hopefuls. She was nervous that she’d have trouble making friends, given that she hadn’t attended real school in about three years, but she wanted to try to make a good impression on her classmates and hoped the rest would follow easily.
She finally saw a sign that read ‘1-A’ with a rather tall entryway open next to it. She peeked around inside, seeing that almost half the class was there already. She was about to walk further into the classroom to choose her seat when she heard a frantic voice behind her.
“Uh….excuse me?? Is this….. class 1-A?”
Chizu turned to find a boy, who looked very out of breath, standing behind her.
“I think so,” she replied while getting a better look at her new classmate. He had messy green hair with green eyes to match, and freckles dotted on his cheeks.
He sighed in relief. “Oh, thanks. I thought I was going to be late—”
“Oh heyyyyy, it’s you!”
A girl with short brown hair and rosy cheeks appeared in the entryway this time. Chizu thought she seemed very friendly with her bubbly demeanor.
“OH! Hello, it’s….you,” the green haired boy replied. “Also, I just wanted to say thanks for offering to give me some of your points…”
“Oh, it’s no big deal! You rescued me, after all!” She beamed, leaving Chizu confused as to what they were talking about. She guessed it might’ve been the other entrance exam, which probably  almost everyone in this room could relate to, except for Chizu. But it’s possible she was wrong.
“DEKU WHAT’RE YOU DOING HERE!?!?!?!”
An angry blond haired kid yelled from his seat over on the far right of the classroom, catching everyone else’s attention.
“OH HI KaCcHAN!” The green haired kid answered, nervously waving.
Everyone seemed to know this guy. Also, ‘Deku?’ That’s a strange name. And why was the blond guy yelling? It’s too early in the morning for that.
Chizu awkwardly stepped away from the situation without another word. She didn’t want to be rude but she felt out of place and she figured she’d learn their names later.
These were her classmates for the next year, anyway.
She took her exit down the far left row of the classroom, away from the angry blond kid, who was still screaming at that poor green haired boy. It was hard to drown him out, but Chizu tried to focus on finding where to sit. Most of the seats in the front were taken already so she decided to head all the way to the back where there were more empty seats.
As she got to the back row, she spotted a boy sitting in the second seat from the far right. She recognized the half white, half crimson red hair as one of the other applicants from the special entrance exam. She hesitated on the thought of walking over and talking to him. She remembered him having a rather intense aura about him during the exam and it seemed to encourage an unwanted rivalry between him and another applicant, whose animosity stemmed from some other time that was seemingly beyond Chizu.
But she figured that maybe he was just nervous or was feeling the pressure from getting into UA, just like everyone else there. He was the only person so far that she would maybe have an easier time to befriend.
She let her feet guide her the rest of the way over until she was about an arms length away from his desk. Chizu stepped back a bit as she was met with a stoic, unreadable expression, heterochromatic eyes meeting her with unwavering eye contact. The scar painted over his left eye was mostly covered by the red side of his hair, but only made the teal of his eye even brighter.
“Sorry, um,” she struggled to find her words for a moment. “Is that seat taken?”
She pointed to the seemingly empty desk to his left. He didn’t even look to where she was pointing, simply shifting his gaze back to its original position straight ahead.
“No,” he replied in a deep, low voice that matched his aloof affect.
“Okay, thanks,” she grinned before walking to the other side of him to take her seat.
She placed her bag on the hook on the side of her desk, before the commotion up front caught her attention once again. More students had joined the classroom, with the green haired kid continuing to be the center of everyone’s attention.
“Whoa, you’re the guy that broke both of your legs while taking out one of those zero pointers with one hit! That was so manly!” remarked another boy with spiky, vibrant red hair.
“Yeah, haha, that was me,” the green hair replied nervously.
“BIG DEAL I GOT MORE COMBAT POINTS THAN THAT DAMN NERD!” the angry blond spoke up. Everyone ignored him except for a tall kid with glasses who only scolded him.
“You there! Get your feet off the desk!”
“HUH?”
“It’s only the first day and you’re disrespecting the property of this fine establishment,” he continued while chopping the air with his hand. “We should all be model students as the future heroes produced from the country’s finest hero course!”
“You’re kidding me, right? And WHO ARE YOU, YOU DAMN EXTRA!?”
“I’m Tenya Iida and YOU should get your feet off the desk!”
“Name’s Katsuki Bakugo, and I’m already going to be the number one hero, better than All Might, SO GET OUT OF MY WAY!”
Jeez, if everyone in this class was going to be like that guy, then Chizu had half a mind to just leave now. She turned her attention back to the small crowd forming at the front. It seemed like everyone was just introducing themselves, wanting to be friends with the timid but supposedly ‘manly’ green haired kid.
“Hey! I’m Eijiro Kirishima!”
“I’m Hanta Sero.”
“Mina Ashido!”
“I’m Denki Kaminari!”
“I’M...MINETA!”
Chizu couldn’t keep up with all the names being tossed around and it seems neither could the green haired kid.
“Hey guys...I’m Izuku Midoriya! It’s great to meet you all!”
So I guess ‘Deku’ must be a nickname? Or quite possibly an insult, given by the way the blond, or Bakugo, had screamed it at him.
Chizu sunk in her seat a bit, wishing that she could be as affable as this Midoriya kid seemed to be. And it wasn’t like he was trying that hard. But she still had the chance to get to know the peppermint haired boy sitting next to her. She turned to face him, who looked like he was watching the scene in front just like she was.
“I’m Chizu Ryuzaki, by the way.”
She thought he didn’t hear her when he didn’t respond for a moment and opened her mouth to continue talking.
“The name’s Shoto Todoroki,” he replied, refusing to look at her as he introduced himself.
“It’s nice to officially meet you! I saw you at the special entrance exam, and just thought I would say hello,” she explained, hoping she wasn’t coming off as too forward or awkward.
The air was silent between them for a few moments again before his eyes shifted over to her, hooded heterochromia catching her own.
“You’re wasting your time,” he warned. “I’m not here to make friends.”
He returns to his assumed position without another word, effectively shutting Chizu out. She couldn’t help but feel like she did something wrong, staring down at her hands on her desk. But at least she knows his name now.
“Hi!” a voice catches her attention to the desk in front of her, where a pretty girl with dark hair was now seated. She looked slightly familiar.
“I’m Momo Yaoyorozu,” she introduces herself in a sweet voice.
Chizu didn’t know if she was talking to her or the cold boy, who she now knew as Todoroki.
“I’m...Chizu Ryuzaki,” she responded hesitantly.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you! You were great at the entrance exam,” she complimented with a bright smile.
That’s right, she was there too. Chizu seemed to greatly underestimate the odds that she would end up in the same class with two of the other three special recommendations admitted to UA. Would the fourth one turn up though?
“Oh, thank you! Likewise, it’s great to meet you too!” Chizu replied genuinely.
“I’m glad the other applicants admitted through special recommendations are in this class, too. When I heard there were only four I didn’t think the odds would be in my favor to meet the others!” She admitted, as if she had read Chizu’s mind.
“Yeah...kinda crazy, right?”
The girl smiled again before looking over at the group at the front. “Do you want to go meet the other girls with me?”
“Okay, sure,” Chizu agreed, finally feeling at ease.
She went with her new friend, Yaoyorozu, over to meet the other women in the class. They were a minority compared to the number of boys in the class, but to Chizu that just meant a few more future female pro heroes.
All the girls seemed really nice and cool. Ashido and Uraraka were really sweet and bubbly. Yaoyorozu was also very nice, but extremely intelligent as well. Chizu didn’t remember her much from the exam but she guessed that her quirk had something to do with knowledge. Tsuyu or ‘Tsu’ as she liked to be called, seemed very level-headed and calm and Jiro seemed like she had a cool sense of style or music taste, given that her earlobes extended into headphone jacks.
Chizu was already in awe of her female classmates and had forgotten about her less than desirable, first impression with Todoroki.
“I think this year’s going to be great! I’m honored to be in a class with such talented others,” Yaoyorozu declared.
“Yeah, I think so too! I haven’t met everyone yet, but I’m so excited!” Uraraka beamed.
“If you’re looking to make friends, you might as well leave now.”
A brooding, unfamiliar voice emerged, coming from outside the classroom. The group closer to the entryway peeked outside, one of them being Midoriya, who screeched at what he saw.
A man in a yellow sleeping bag suddenly appeared at the entryway. He shed the sleeping bag to reveal the rest of himself. Was this guy...supposed to be their teacher?
“Welcome to the UA Hero Course.”
Everyone automatically took their seats as he approached the podium at the front of the classroom.
“My name is Shota Aizawa, and I’m going to be your homeroom teacher.”
His long dark hair covered most of his face and if it wasn’t covered by his hair, his large scarf would make up the rest. Chizu was sitting all the way at the back of the classroom but she could tell by his monotonous voice and half-lidded, unamused expression that he wasn’t going to be giving out good marks left and right.
“Starting today, you are all heroes in training. And instead of going through a normal orientation, I’m going to evaluate all your quirks with an apprehension test,” He explained, handing out packages of clothing, which Chizu recognized as a gym uniform.
“Everyone put these on and meet out in the PE fields.”
-
Chizu stood with the rest of her classmates out on the fields by the school, all matching in their blue, red, and white uniforms, the top and bottom forming a ‘UA’ design on the front. She chose a spot behind Midoriya, Uraraka, and Iida as Mr. Aizawa stood before them, explaining the process of the test.
“Today you will go through the quirk apprehension test. This test will allow you to show off your abilities so I can gauge your potential as future heroes. Since you weren’t allowed to use your quirks in middle school, your performance should be even better than if you completed this test normally.”
“Bakugo,” he singles out the blond. “What was your furthest throwing distance in middle school?”
“Heh. My best was 64 meters,” he replies in a cocky voice.
Mr. Aizawa holds out a ball to him. “Throw it using your quirk.”
“Easy enough,” Bakugo snickers, taking the ball from him and stepping into a boundary circle. He winds up his arm a few times to warm up before pulling it back.
“DIE!”
He yelled as he launched the ball with a huge explosion coming from the palm of his hand. Everyone watched in awe as the ball soared into the sky, disappearing into the clouds. Chizu didn’t really like the attitude of this Bakugo guy so far, but she had to admit that his explosion quirk was pretty impressive.
Mr. Aizawa checked a device which measured Bakugo’s throw.
“That’s 705.2 meters.”
“Your quirk improves your performance, but that performance can only be maintained by how much control you have of your quirk,” Mr. Aizawa explained as Bakugo retreated back to the group, basking in his classmates’ reactions.
Everyone began chattering, distracted with being excited over participating in these tests.
“We get to use our quirks?! This is going to be so fun!” Uraraka beamed.
“Yes, this will be a great opportunity to show what we can do,” Iida commented.
Chizu mentally agreed with Iida but also was interested to see the others’ quirks. Not to size herself up against anyone, but just because she was genuinely curious.
“Don’t get excited,” Mr. Aizawa continued, effectively shutting everyone down. “I will be keeping track of each of your scores at each test. At the end, you will be ranked from best to worst. The person who comes in last...will be expelled.”
The mood of the group shifted drastically, many people gasping in shock. Midoriya let out a screech of terror while Uraraka spoke her mind against Mr. Aizawa’s casual caveat.
“But that’s not fair!”
“Life isn’t fair,” Mr. Aizawa retorted, malice in his bloodshot eyes. “And as heroes, it’s your job to combat that unfairness. Now let’s get started.”
Chizu wasn’t especially nervous about her performance, as her training for the entrance exam mostly focused on agility, flexibility, and strength, like her mother would do with her when Chizu would train with her. Most of the tests had something to do with physical fitness, so she was pretty confident. She also had good basic control of her quirk for it to be versatile enough for each test.
But Chizu was more interested in each of her classmates’ performances. The range of the types of powers in the class was pretty diverse and it was impressive as to how everyone adapted their quirks to the test. But it seemed like there were one or two people who particularly shined in a specific test which was designed for their quirk, like Iida’s engine power, which had the fastest time in the 50-meter dash.
Although, one person became a spectacle in terms of showing off his power. Midoriya completed every test normally, leaving Chizu and probably others to wonder why. She noticed that he was visibly anxious about taking the test once Mr. Aizawa said someone would be expelled. Maybe he was letting the pressure get to him, and his quirk would hurt his performance more than help.
But didn’t that spiky red haired kid mention that Midoriya beat a huge obstacle at the entrance exam with one hit?
Something just doesn’t add up.
They arrived at the ball throwing station, in which they had to throw a ball as far as they could using their quirks, just like Bakugo had done at the beginning. Uraraka by far had made this her test, her throwing distance maxing out at infinity meters. Maybe one day someone will find that ball...in space.
Midoriya was up next, still looking very anxious but also pensive about what he should do. Like if he should use his power or not. Meanwhile, Bakugo seemed to be keeping a very close eye on Midoriya and his performance.
“You don’t really think he has a quirk, do you?” He questioned Iida.
“What? Of course he does, he has to!”
Bakugo bared his teeth while watching Midoriya, leaving Chizu to question what kind of past relationship these two had before UA. She turned her attention back to Midoriya, who was getting ready to throw his pitch. His throwing arm began to turn red and glow with yellow all through the muscles in his arm. He began to pull his arm back, building power to throw when Mr. Aizawa stepped in, his scarf and hair suddenly coming alive.
Midoriya’s arm stopped glowing, dropping the ball as he was now caught by Mr. Aizawa’s scarf. Midoriya looked terrified as he looked up to his captor.
“I erased your quirk,” Mr. Aizawa explained.
“Y-You’re….Eraser Head?!”
Everyone began murmuring again about the revelation. Chizu had heard of him before, yes. He was a Pro Hero whose quirk could erase quirks, but to be honest she didn’t understand how that would help him fight off villains. He seemed pretty well versed with his scarf, though.
“I watched you during the entrance exam, Midoriya,” seethed Mr. Aizawa, pulling the trembling kid closer by his scarf. “You severely injure yourself after using your power...what good are you if you’re useless after one hit?! You don’t belong here.”
What the hell was this kid’s quirk? So far, it sounds powerful but to physically injure yourself to use it? Chizu wouldn’t wish that on anyone. It also wasn’t fair that Mr. Aizawa was putting him on the spot in front of everyone like that. Everyone here was chosen to come to UA for a reason and clearly this guy was no different. But then again, Mr. Aizawa made sure to make his stance on ‘fairness’ very apparent on the first day.
Everyone else froze with anticipation as Mr. Aizawa continued scolding Midoriya. However, Bakugo seemed to be getting a kick out of watching the scene in front of him, hearing him laugh under his breath.
“Heh, heh. Dumb Deku.”
Mr. Aizawa let him go, his hair returning to its original position. He forced Midoriya him back to the boundary circle, leaving the green haired kid dumbstruck at what just happened.
“I restored your quirk. Go ahead.”
Midoriya picked up the ball, looking at it for what felt like a while. Chizu couldn’t imagine what was going through his head right now. But surely if he could pass the entrance exam, he could get through this too.
She and the rest of the class observed with anticipation as he held onto his right wrist with his left hand, as if to stabilize it as he pulled back his arm. His arm wasn’t glowing anymore, but it looked like one of his fingers began to glow. It seemed like he was focusing his power into only his finger as he swung his arm, that finger doing the rest of the work by propelling the ball into the air. Everyone watched as the ball soared, even Bakugo looked shocked.
“He….HAS A QUIRK?!!!?”
Chizu glanced back at Midoriya as continued to hold onto his wrist, one of his fingers now swollen and colored a gruesome purple. That didn’t look good.
Mr. Aizawa measured the distance. “705.3 meters.”
Bakugo snapped. “YOU DAMN NERD, I’M GONNA KILL YOU!”
The angry blond charged forward, his palms spitting out small explosions. This kid seemed to have more issues with Midoriya than Chizu would’ve guessed.
Midoriya instantly cowered away but peeked up when the impact never came. Mr. Aizawa’s hair shot up again, his eyes glowing red as his scarf pulled Bakugo away from Midoriya.
“What’s...your scarf... made of,” grunted Bakugo, struggling against the material, helpless with his quirk being erased.
“It’s a capture weapon made out of alloy mixed with carbon nanoparticles,” he explained. “You’re wasting my time.”
He released Bakugo, who was still visibly enraged, from his binds. “And don’t make me use my quirk too much; it gives me dry eye.”
Midoriya returned to the rest of the group, standing on the other side of Iida, who blocked him from Bakugo’s continued rage. However, that didn’t allow Midoriya to completely ignore the angry blond, trembling at just the sound of his vengeful yelling.
“You’ve been lying all this time, Deku!! And I’m gonna make you PAY!”
Chizu could not take her eyes off their interactions, not noticing that it was her turn to throw.
“Ryuzaki, let’s go.”
Chizu turned her attention back to Mr. Aizawa, who looked impatient by her distracted demeanor. She apologized before walking over and grabbing a new ball from him, moving to take her place in the circle.
Bakugo always managed to stand out the most with his rather ‘explosive’ aptitude at each test. But Chizu was able to match his ability in a more subtle way. She only wished that she could use the move that she had always thought about trying but never actually put into practice. It would certainly launch the ball far, but would take up too much of her energy. Not to mention that she had never actually done it before. Now was not the best time, especially after what Mr. Aizawa said to Midoriya. She would have to opt for something much simpler but would get the job done, like Midoriya had demonstrated.
She took a few deep breaths while swinging her arms, loosening up the muscles, while blackish-purple, flame-like energy began to emanate from her hands. She let the ball be taken in by her quirk, pulling her arm back while inhaling deeply one last time before exhaling with a grunt, sending the ball off her hands with force of the flames, much like Bakugo did with his explosions.
The ball flew far, disappearing into the sky like the rest, never to be seen again.
“705.3 meters,” Mr. Aizawa announced.
Chizu smiled, silently praising herself, while Bakugo did not seem too happy. Everything seemed to piss this guy off.
“GET YOUR OWN MOVE, YOU DAMN EXTRA!”
“Well...it’s not like I can just change my quirk,” Chizu replied earnestly.
“WELL LEMME CHANGE IT FOR YA.”
“Kacchan calm down!” Midoriya shielded Bakugo from attacking her. “Sorry, sorry, he’s just not great when it comes to not being the best.”
“GET OUT OF MY WAY DEKU!”
“Bakugo! I won’t tell you again,” scolded Mr. Aizawa.
Chizu ignored him while her other classmates praised her.
“Wow, that was so cool!” complimented Uraraka.
“Thanks! Not as cool as what you did, though” Chizu remarked. “That ball’s probably still floating somewhere!”
“Yeah...I didn’t think that would actually work,” she replied, her cheeks getting slightly rosier.
“Your power is so impressive, Ryuzaki!” Yaoyorozu interjected.
“Well, so is yours!” Chizu pointed out. “You have to know all those molecular structures and think quickly about what you’re going to make.”
“Oh, it just takes studying, that’s all!” she replied modestly, waving Chizu off.
The moment of relief was hitting Chizu, giving her the chance to really breathe. She was going to be fine and her journey at UA was going to be nothing but rewarding for her.
But at the moment, she felt someone’s eyes on her again.
“Todoroki. Your turn.”
Footsteps came up, and she looked up to see him passing by her, shooting an icy expression right at her eyes. She honestly forgot that he was even there, as he opted to stand at the back of the group.
After she would complete a test in which she relied more on her quirk, she’d catch him staring at her. More like glaring, but in his own way. It wasn’t full of malice or rage, but it definitely wasn’t friendly. He did say that he wasn’t there to make friends, and he meant it.
He went last on every individual test or would complete one that called for partners by himself. During the sit-up test, they had to be paired up, with one person holding the other’s feet while they did their sit-ups. Todoroki simply used his ice quirk to freeze his feet to the ground. Chizu knew he had a second quirk, something to do with heat, but it seemed he only used it when he had to and never at full power, like when cleaning up his ice. The exact range of his abilities were still a mystery, but he seemed to know what he was doing.
Overall, he mostly minded his own business. It was only the first day, he’s probably just slow to warm up. And if that was the case, Chizu didn’t blame him with people like Bakugo in the class.
After the last test was done, Mr. Aizawa had no mercy in showing everyone where they ranked, pulling up the final results on a hologram screen. Fortunately, Chizu didn’t have to look far to find her name:
Momo Yaoyorozu
Shoto Todoroki
Chizu Ryuzaki
Katsuki Bakugo
Tenya Iida
Fumikage Tokoyami
Mezo Shoji
Mashirao Ojiro
Eijiro Kirishima
Mina Ashido
Ochaco Uraraka
Koji Koda
Rikido Sato
Tsuyu Asui
Yuga Aoyama
Hanta Sero
Denki Kaminari
Kyoka Jiro
Minoru Mineta
Izuku Midoriya
Sighs of relief echoed throughout the group, some people more relieved than others. Bakugo, of course, was not too pleased. Not only with the fact that he wasn’t in the top three but also by way that Chizu was ahead of him.
“LISTEN HERE SHIT FOR FLAMES,” he yelled, stomping over to her. “THE ONLY REASON WHY YOU’RE AHEAD OF ME IS BECAUSE YOU COPIED ME. IF WE FOUGHT FOR REAL I KNOW I’D WIN FOR SURE, YOU GOT THAT?”
Chizu could only humor him, smiling. “I’d love to see it, Bakugo.”
“DON’T SMILE AT ME, I WILL KILL YOU!”
“Give it a rest, man. Just be happy you’re in the top five,” the boy with the spiky red hair assured, patting Bakugo’s shoulder in praise.
“Well at least you’re in the top 10, Kirishima! I barely made it!” another blond boy commented.
Chizu turned her attention back to the results, not surprised by the two people above her. Yaoyorozu was seemingly unmatched so far with her ability to make anything she needed in that time and place. And Todoroki...that was pretty self explanatory. It was impressive that he was still very high up yet only used half his power to achieve that. Impressive to some but insulting to others, maybe. But this was only motivation for everyone to work hard and focus on improving their own skills. Everyone except for…
Poor Midoriya, who came in dead last, which meant today was not only his first but last day at UA. Chizu felt bad for him as he cowered behind everyone else in the group, seemingly letting the news sink in as discreetly as he could. It seemed like he tried his hardest to make do with what he could, even when people like Bakugo and even Mr. Aizawa were nothing but doubtful and discouraging. It was quite admirable...something that a real hero would do.
“Don’t be too proud if you’re at the top,” Mr. Aizawa interjected. “You’ve got just as much training as the rest of the group. And as for the rest of you, you’ll need to work harder than ever if you want to be at the top of this list.”
He really didn’t spare much praise for anyone, huh?
“Also...no one is expelled.”
The entire class gasped while Midoriya looked like he was about to pass out from stress.
“Then why did you tell us that someone would be expelled?” Tsu questioned, asking what was on probably everyone’s mind.
“That was just to get you to not hold back,” Mr. Aizawa replied with a sadistic smile.
Dumbstruck didn’t even begin to describe the reactions throughout the group. Well, at least he chose not to expel anyone….today.
“Which is what you should be doing from here on out,” he continued. “You’re here to go plus ultra and nothing less.”
“YEAH!”
 “Class dismissed.”
-
Chizu returned back to the school with the rest of the class to change out of their gym clothes before heading back to the classroom to retrieve their belongings. It was only the first day for the first years, meaning that they only had orientation that day and their actual classes would start tomorrow.
She felt pretty good about her performance during the quirk test. She was genuinely happy to rank third in the class but also would’ve been happy to be in any position. Maybe not last like Midoriya but only because Mr. Aizawa deceptively put the pressure on thick.
But being at the top isn’t everything, at least to Chizu. Because when you’re the best, where do you go after that? What else is there to achieve? It only gets harder because at that point, you have to maintain your spot. People will only see you as a target to hit, a pawn to knock down, whether you want them to or not. She often wondered how a hero like All Might could handle that pressure, being the number one hero. Maybe she would get the chance to ask him since he’s teaching at UA now. Her mother always said there’s a reason he’s number one and why he’s maintained it for so long.
And it’s not because he’s the strongest or the fastest, or because he saves the most civilians, and it’s not because his identity is held under lock and key. If you ask someone why All Might is their favorite hero, they might mention one of those three, or something similar. But those reasons all come together for something bigger:
He’s more than a hero. He’s an inspiration, a keystore for the hero society. And that’s why no one will ever take his spot.
Someone like Bakugo could probably only do that in their dreams. He’s got the passion though, Chizu could give him that.
But he should watch out, otherwise someone like Shoto Todoroki might make him freeze up when the time comes.
Chizu couldn’t help but let her mind drift to him. She just couldn’t tell what he was thinking behind his expressions towards her. He was trying to silently tell her something. Was he jealous or something? But how could he be? He literally placed above her in the quirk test results. If anything, Chizu should be jealous but she only feels confused and slightly paranoid. He was very quiet and very observant from the way he was looking at her. Whatever it was, she couldn’t let him get to her...
She couldn’t afford a repeat of middle school. More importantly, her father couldn’t afford it. She wanted to show him that she could attend a national high school where she would achieve her goals of becoming the best hero she could be.
Chizu returned to the classroom to grab her bag, observing the empty desk next to her. Todoroki must’ve already left for the day. Alone, most likely.
And it looks like she would be leaving alone too, most of the other desks empty as well.
As she walked towards the entrance of the school, she contemplated talking to Todoroki. But what would she even say to him? ‘Hey why do you keep looking at me like that?’
No, she needed to remain calm and unbothered. She took a deep breath, exhaling as she exited through the front doors of the school.
“Oh, Ryuzaki!”
She turned to see Yaoyorozu coming over to her with Jiro, Tsu and Ashido in tow.
“We thought we missed you! Would you like to walk with us?” she proposed, her voice as sweet as when she first spoke to Chizu earlier that day.
Chizu grinned at her. Looks like she wasn’t going to be alone. Funny how things can turn around like that.
“Sure, thanks.”
She joined the rest of the girls and they began walking down the long path that led to the school.
“You guys can call me Chizu, by the way, I really don’t mind it,” she offered, never having been one for formalities. “Where’s Uraraka?”
“She’s waiting with Iida until Midoriya’s finger is healed,” Tsu replied.
Chizu nodded, not needing to ask any further. Although Ashido had no problem carrying a conversation.
“Ohmygosh, did you guys see how Mr. Aizawa was talking to him earlier? Super harsh!”
The rest of the group agreed, including Chizu. Yaoyorozu agreed as well, but continued with a qualifying explanation.
“Yes, it was indeed very unsettling and rather unnecessary to do in front of the whole class. However, one must accept their flaws before they can improve. We all have our shortcomings, and accepting them is only the first step to becoming the heroes we want to be.”
And that’s why she’s currently number one in the class.
The girls continued to chat amongst themselves as they walked, mostly about how they felt about the first day and what they expected for the rest of the year. They neared the end of the road to the school, an intersection coming up ahead. There was another student sitting on a bench on the side who looked all too familiar to Chizu.
“Ohhhhh guys, shhh,” Ashido spoke in a hushed tone. “He’s so cute, I love his hair!”
“His quirk’s pretty impressive as well,” Tsu commented.
“You should’ve seen him at the special entrance exam. He seems to have a very admirable drive,” Yaoyoruzu agreed.
Chizu stood on the side for this topic as they continued to quietly talk about him. They quieted completely once they began to pass by him, but Chizu couldn’t be more aware of his presence, turning her full attention towards him.
Todoroki sat as silent as ever, looking down at the screen of his phone. Chizu couldn’t help but keep her eyes on him as they got as close as possible to him. She wasn’t very discreet about it, but then again, he hadn’t been very stealthy about looking at her either.
So of course he looked up from his phone to find her eyes on him.
She felt a pang to her heart upon catching his eyes, one gray and one teal, scar and all. But she couldn’t look away. There was something different about his expression. Compared to earlier today, his eyes were soft but... sad? She tried to spare him a small, apologetic grin before turning her attention back to walk with the other girls.
Little did she know, his eyes followed the group as they walked away.
Ashido went nuts over what had transpired, shaking Chizu by the shoulder, with excited declarations of his liking to her. Chizu merely brushed it off in saying that she should’ve left him alone. But really, she was more confused about this guy than before. His emotions were all stored in his eyes, but why did he seem so sullen? She wasn’t about to pry into his personal affairs but she had to admit her intrigue.
Who are you, Shoto Todoroki?

a/n: welcome everyone to my new series!! i know it’s different from my usual writing but i’m so excited bc this oc has been in my head for a min. if u haven’t noticed i’ve been into anime/manga series recently so i thought i’d try to expand on my blog a little bit, hope u don’t mind! but if you’re only here for tom and friends, that’s okay! dont worry i have other things planned that’ll i’ll be sharing VERY soon so stay tuned.
but anyway how does everyone like this series so far?? it’s going to follow the anime/manga arcs but ofc i’ll be changing some stuff here and there bc this is a todoroki luv story and chizu has to get in there somewhere yeknow. also there will be less but longer parts than i normally write which is something i’d like to challenge myself to do as well as try to portray more complex characters as accurately as possible in a romance context. but anyway hope you enjoyed, add yourself to the taglist if you wanna see more!!
for some reason i’m always super nervous when i post a new series, this one especially since it’s not my usual stuff so pls PLS interact/leave feedback if you’re able!! there’s a lot of questions that need to be answered but i’m particularly curious to know if anyone has ideas about chizus quirk or why shoto seems to not like her....lemme know..

Takara Yamada’s Hero Academia, Season 1 Episode 5 [Eijiro Kirishima/OC] [Female!Aizawa/Hizashi]
Hi, guys! Got past the entrance exam, so it’s on to the first day! This is a longer chapter, and even then I managed to not get in all the episode, so that’ll be next time. Sorry!
A link to a Masterlist for this story is right Here. Hope you all enjoy!
Anyway, taglist! @dailyojiromashirao and @elite-guard-hardygal, as usual. These tags are lonely, though! Who wants to keep ‘em company? :)
Anyway, they are really sweet and I hope they like this! And I hope you all like it, as well!
God Bless and Good Day!

Eijiro Kirishima:
Sorry again. We’d had this planned since the test.
Me:
No, no, it’s fine! Don’t worry about it. We can try for dinner on the first day, right?
Eijiro Kirishima:
You’re sure your parents won’t mind?
Me:
Of course not! They really want to meet you!
Eijiro Kirishima:
If you say so, yeah, we can try.
I frown. Why would he be weird about my parents wanting to meet him? Either way, it was the day we’d found out if we were going to UA or not. Eijiro had called me and neither of us had opened the letter, so I did with him on speakerphone opening his letter as well.
Turns out, there were ‘Rescue Points’, and All Might (on a projector) explained that there was a panel of judges who decides who gets how many rescue points. Katsuki got 0 rescue points, but 77 villain points.
Kiri and I got 35 each, tying us for second place for the test! Izuku, I note happily, is in 7th place with 60 rescue points!
I’d invited Eijiro for dinner to celebrate, but he’d said his family had already made plans for their own celebration, resulting in our current conversation.
Me:
Sounds good! I hope we’re in the same class!
Eijiro Kirishima:
Yeah! That’d be so cool!
There. The Kirishima I met on the bus was back. I never know where he goes or why he disappears, but I was glad he was back.
“So, what’s the verdict?” Dad asks from my doorway, smirking. I roll my eyes. He always got like this when he saw I was talking to Eijiro or Shinso.
“Unfortunately, he and Shinso can’t make it.” I explain. “Both their families already had their own celebrations planned.” I explain. Dad clicks his tongue, waving his finger at me.
“Not helping the ‘imaginary friend’ theory.” He teases. I laugh.
“Dad, I’ve shown you the texts. I’m not making it up.” I assure him.
“Yeah, yeah. Either way, dinner’s ready. Orange chicken with extra chicken and rice balls.” I grin excitedly. My favorite!
“Yay! Coming!”
=#=#=#=#=
Soon enough, April came. And, with it, the first day of school.
By the time I get up, Mom’s already gone to prepare, and Dad was eating breakfast. I yawn, rubbing my eyes and grabbing a bowl for cereal. “Morning, Tik-Tak!” He cheers.
“Morning, dad.” I reply, pouring the milk on top. “Is there coffee?” Dad chuckles.
“Yes.” I yawn again and grab a mug, adding creamer and sugar before sitting back down and eating.
“You ready for your first day of high school?” He asks. I blink, halting mid-gulp of coffee. Oh, yeah. That was today.
“...I guess.” I mumble, my stomach suddenly squirming in nervousness.
“Relax. You’re gonna do great! Besides, your mom’s teaching your homeroom class. It’ll be fine.” I grin.
“Really?”
“Yeah, but in UA, she’s your teacher first, okay?” I sober a little. Of course. It was great having my mom as a teacher (and probably Dad, too), but she was professional enough not to give me preferential treatment. It’d be interesting, for sure.
“I know.” I reply, then grin. “It’ll be great!” With that, I finish my bowl and go to my room to change into my uniform (opting to wear the stockings, as I wasn’t quite comfortable in just the skirt yet), pulling my hair into a messy bun, as well. I came out and heard a camera snap a picture, spotting Dad holding his phone. I blush. “Dad!” I bark. “What was that?!”
“My baby’s going to UA! I had to take a picture!” I sigh. Of course.
“Okay...shouldn’t we be leaving soon?” He nods, grabbing his wallet and keyring.
“Yup! Let’s get going!”
The car ride was too long and too short all at once. Soon enough, we’ve arrived. I gulp, shaking in my shoes. I was so nervous! Dad had a gentle arm around my shoulders and led me to the class I was in; 1-A.
We find Eijiro wandering, looking confused. True to his word, he got the firetruck red and spiked style. It looked...really good on him. “Hey, Eijiro!” I call, determined that it was a friendly compliment, nothing more. He whirls.
“Hey, Takara!” He calls back. I’d scolded him enough times for him to start calling me by my first name. Dad’s eyes light up and I know I’m in trouble.
“Ah, I see. Nice one, kiddo!” Dad whispers, nudging my side with his elbow. I blush scarlet and swat at his shoulder.
“Dad!” I hiss. “I told you! Quit it!” Dad then clears his throat.
“Nice to finally meet you. I’m Takara’s father, if you didn’t know.” Eijiro smiles and shakes his hand.
“Her last name gave it away, Mr. Yamada.” Dad chuckles.
“I see. Where’re yah headed, kid?” Eijiro looks around.
“I’m looking for classroom 1-A, but I can’t find it.” Dad grins.
“Never fear! I’ll lead you! You know, Takara’s in your class.”
“That’s awesome!” Eijiro cheers. I blush as we walk together in silence (Dad constantly watching Eiji and I) and arrive at the massive door soon enough. “We try to make sure everyone can use it.” Dad explains when we gape at the door. “Well, gotta get your teacher! Be back soon!” With that, he takes off. I blink.
“That was a fast departure.” I muse. I then clear my throat and face the door. “Well, shall we?” He opens the door and walks in. I’m right behind him, managing not to tremble as I look at the handful of students that had arrived a little early. One had pink skin and pale pink hair with small horn-things. Her eyes are black with golden pupils and she instantly leaps into a hug with Eijiro.
“Hiiii!” She cheers. “This is so crazy! We’re in the same class!” I am then finding myself clearing my throat, trying not to let a sudden irritation come out in my voice. What was wrong with me?
“Hi there.” I murmur. “I’m Takara.” She grins at me and squeals as she hugs me, too.
“So you’re the one Eiji’s been on about! Nice to meetcha! Name’s Mina Ashido.” I hug her back.
“Nice to meet you, too.” I then gulp as the door slams and a growl is heard. I turn to see Katsuki glaring at everyone as he sits at the far left desk in the second row. He was the only other one I know so far, so I walk over. “Oh, great.” I muse sarcastically. “I get the hothead in my class.” Fighting fire with fire might be a good way to handle this guy. He glares at me.
“What did you say, reject?” I cross my arms. Really? ‘Extra’?
“I said I got a hothead in my class.” He stands, and I try not to flinch. “Katsuki, right?”
“How’d you know that, you damn stalker?” I narrow my eyes.
“Well, I was there in the sludge villain incident. Surprised the guy could wrap that mess around that inflated head of yours.” It felt wrong insulting the kid, but it might get through to him. He scoffs, glaring at me reprovingly.
“Well, you were so attention-hungry, you and Deku jumped right in after me.” I chuckle. Maybe this guy wasn’t so bad under all the bravado and anger...but who was ‘Deku’? Izuku? “But don’t think I owe you anything. I would’ve been fine without you rejects!” Eijiro finally steps in.
“Okay, you two! Geez!” He sighs. “Look- -”
“Hey, don’t but in, Shitty Hair!” Katsuki interrupts. Eijiro growls and I put a hand on his shoulder.
“Katsuki, enough!” I bark, then deflate a little. “Look, I’m not an ‘extra’ or a ‘reject’, okay? My name is Takara. And this is my friend, Eijiro Kirishima.” No one seemed to recognize my name. Good.
“Whatever. Now, get outta my face, you damn nerds.” Katsuki growls. By now, a few more kids have joined the class, and another was just walking in. He was tall, wit- -wait...he’s the stick-in-his-butt from the entrance exam! Great!
He settles into a desk in the right back area before noticing Katsuki’s position, feet propped on his desk. Before anyone can react, the kid’s over at Katsuki’s desk. “Take your feet off that desk now!” He orders. And he’s still got that stick up his butt. Joy.
Katsuki glares at the guy, smirking defiantly.
“Huh?” He asks.
“It’s the first day and you’re already disrespecting this academy by scuffing school property, you cretin!” The guy protests. I face-palm, leaning against the desk a row back and on Kiri’s left side.
“Your old school leave a stick up yer ass, or were you born with it?” Katsuki snaps.
The kid straightens, deciding on a different tactic, putting a hand on his chest.
“Let’s start over. I’m Tenya Iida from Somei Private Academy.” Katsuki scoffs.
“Somei, huh? So you must think you’re better than me!”
“No!” I bark. “Katsuki, stop!”
“I’m gonna have fun tearing you a new one!” Katsuki continues as if I hadn’t said a word. I groan. There was just no getting through to him! Guess I was wrong about him not being so bad…
Tenya gasps. “You would threaten me, your own classmate?” He squeaks.
“Something tells me he’d threaten everyone at once if he could.” I mumble, earning a chuckle from Kirishima, and a glance from Tenya, who turns back to Katsuki.
“Are you sure you’re in the right place?” He asks. I frown. That was too close to what people say about Shinso.
“Okay, enough!” I bark, coming forward. “Both of you, knock it off!” I then sigh heavily and turn to Tenya. I’m sure he didn’t mean that Katsuki should quit and be a villain, right? So, I extend my hand. “The name’s Takara, from Nabu Middle School.” He shakes it, seeming to calm a little now that someone sane was talking to him.
“Tenya Iida.” I nod, smiling.
“Yup. I heard.” Tenya then notices something behind him and the room falls quiet. I turn and spot Izuku standing there. How long, I had no idea. But he looked extremely nervous.
“It’s him.” Tenya murmurs.
I wave. “Hey!” I greet.
“You know him?” Tenya asks. I nod and make my way over as Izuku pales with everyone’s eyes on him.
“Hi!” He squeaks. I point out the desk beside mine.
“Go ahead and take that desk.” I say. He nods, but Tenya walks past me before I can lead Izuku over to the desk.
“Good morning!” Tenya calls. “I’m Tenya Iida from- -”
“Yeah, I know.” Izuku interrupts nervously. I refrain from chuckling.
“Oh.” Tenya says, halting.
“I’m Izuku Midoriya.” Izuku introduces. “It’s super nice to meet you.” His voice wavers in nervousness.
“Midoriya,” Tenya continues, “you realized there was something more to the practical exam, didn’t you?” He asks. Izuku blinks, wondering where this was going. “You must be very perceptive and I completely misjudged you.” At least Tenya’s willing to acknowledge his faults and try to make it right. “I admit, as a student, you are far superior to me.” I almost chuckle at the way Tenya subtly shakes, as if it almost pains him to admit it. Izuku pales and I can tell he’d had no idea about the rescue points until the letter, like the rest of us. Behind Izuku, Ochaco appears.
“Hey, I recognize that messed up hair!” She cheers. “Falling Boy!” Izuku jumps, blushing and hiding his face in his hands. In trying to restrain my laughter at Izuku, I can’t hear much of what she’s saying except that she called Izuku’s punch amazing.
“Oh, hey, hi! So, uh, I sh-should probably thank you for going in and talking to them.” He says. I frown. How’d he know? I was there, but Izuku shouldn’t have known.
“Huh? How’d you know about that?” She asks. “I, er, texted him.” I call to save Izuku explaining. He seemed nervous about it, so I decided to help him out.
“Right!” Izuku replies.
“Oh. What do you think we’re doing today besides orientation?” Ochaco says excitedly. “I wonder what our teachers are like! I can’t wait to meet everyone!” Behind everyone, I spot Dad slinking away after plopping Mom’s sleeping bag down with her inside. I roll my eyes and smile at her.
“If you’re just here to make friends, you can pack up your stuff now.” Mom says. That makes everyone shut up. No one had noticed her. Izuku, Tenya, and Ochaco look at her and I help her sit up. “Welcome to UA’s hero course.” She says, unzipping the bag enough to suck down a bagged energy drink. That seems to shock the group in front of her all over again. I nearly start laughing, but hold it in. mom stands, smiling subtly my way and unzipping the bag. “It took 8 seconds for you all to shut up; that’s not gonna work.” She says. “Time is precious. Rational students would understand.” I smile at her as she scans the class, which was full by now. “Hello, I’m Shota Yamada, your teacher.” Everyone does a double take. Mom yawns and takes out a set of clothes in the UA colors, with an A across the chest and a U beneath it. I raise a brow. “Right, let’s get to it. Put these on and head outside.” My confusion increases. Was Mom not going to let us attend orientation? No one was going forward, so I walk over and take the clothes from her hands. “Thought those would fit you.” She whispers, subtly squeezing my hand. I make my way down the hall to the locker rooms I’d spotted for what I assume is this very purpose. I wonder what Mom’s having us do.
=#=#=#=#=
“A Quirk assessment test?” Everyone asks. Mom nods, her back to us.
“But...orientation.” Ochaco says. “We’re gonna miss it.” Mom shrugs, not turning around.
“If you really want to make the big leagues, you can’t waste time on pointless ceremonies.” Everyone gasps. I just nod. I was used to her apathetic nature. Mom turns and smirks. “Here at UA, we’re not tethered to traditions. That means I get to run my class however I see fit.” I honestly am not sure why everyone is shocked. Mom doesn’t appear like the person that wastes time, does she? “You’ve been taking standardized tests most of your lives. But you’ve never been able to use your Quirks in physical exams before.” She continues, holding up her teaching phone to display the common tests we’d taken. “The country’s still trying to pretend we’re all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It’s not rational. One day the Ministry of Education will learn.” I was a little surprised that Mom was almost mad about this. She sighs and turns to Katsuki.
“Bakugo, you managed to get the most points on the entrance exam. What was your longest throw in softball during Junior High?” Katsuki frowns.
“...67 meters, I think.” He replies. Mom nods.
“Right.” She smirks. “Try doing it with your Quirk. Anything goes, just stay in the circle.” Mom tosses him a ball as Katsuki walks into position. Katsuki stretches his shoulder and backs up a little.
“You asked for it.” He growls, then steps forward and launches the ball, screaming ‘Die!’ as he uses his Quirk (explosions). The ball soars away before landing a long way away.
“All of you need to know your maximum capabilities.” Mom continues, then holds up her phone as the ball rolls a little. “It’s the most rational way of determining your potential as a pro hero.” 705.2 meters, her phone says. Everyone gasps.
“Wow…” I breathe.
“705 meters? Are you kidding?” A boy with blonde hair (with a zig-zag black streak in his bangs) asks, raising a brow. I shrug.
“Well, his explosion Quirk would greatly enhance the ball’s momentum.” I point out.
“Ooh! I wanna go!” Mina cheers. “That looks fun!”
“Now that’s what I’m talking about!” A boy with flat black hair cries. “Using our Quirks as much as we want!” Mom chuckles, and I sense a touch of dark humor. Mom was having fun being creepy...and I’m not sure I’m completely immune.
“So, you think this is fun, huh?” She asks. “You have three years here to become a hero. You think it’s all fun and playtime?” I gulp. Teacher!Mom is actually kinda intimidating. “Idiots. Today, you’ll compete in 8 physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none and will be expelled immediately.” I take a step back. Mom and Dad rarely brought work home with them. At least, not in front of me. If they discussed teaching and hero work, it was when I was not around. This was a whole new side of my mother I’d never seen. Not even when we worked on developing my control of my Quirk. “Like I said, I get to decide how this class runs. Understand?” I gulp and nod. Shit. what kind of tests are these gonna be? “If that’s a problem, you can head home right now.” I bite my lip. Even as her daughter, I didn’t have any right to protest this teaching method. Who was I to say how Mom should do things? I don’t know what it takes to train heroes. Maybe this was the best way.
“You can’t send one of us home!” Ochaco exclaims. I nearly face-palm. “I mean, we just got here! Even if it wasn’t the first day, that isn’t fair!” Mom merely stares at her.
“Oh? And you think natural disasters are?” Mom counters cooly. “Or power-hungry villains? Hmm? Or catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities?” Mom had a point. A scary point, but a point. “No.” She continues, “The world is full of unfairness. It’s a hero’s job to try and combat that unfairness. If you wanna be a pro, you’re gonna have to push yourself to the brink.” She was right. We had to handle a lot as a hero. Therefore, our schooling should be an accurate portrayal of what a hero did everyday. “For the next three years, UA will throw one hardship after another at you, so go beyond, Plus Ultra style.” She finishes, smirking with a hand on her hip. “Show me it’s no mistake your here.” It felt like Mom was talking to me directly, urging me to prove my worth, even though she was willing (Dad, too) to get me in through a recommendation. I’d told them I was flattered, but that I didn’t think my Quirk was strong enough to compare to the other recommended students. I’d heard stories and watched Sports Festivals. I didn’t stand a chance that route.
“That’s what I’m talking about…” Eijiro whispers, eyes glinting in determination.
“Now then, let the games begin!” Mom calls.
=#=#=#=#=
Turns out, I did better than expected at a lot of the tests.
The 50 meter dash was hard, but basically propelling myself forward with water from a nearby hose, I was able to beat the boy with six arms I was up against. Eijiro high-fives me and the boy gives me a thumbs up. Mom smiles subtly at me as she calls the next group over.
The others had varying levels of success. Eijiro was behind his opponent by a milisecond. It was some boy with a bird head. Once everyone was done, we moved on to a training room indoors.
Next test was grip strength. The water from the hose didn’t help much. I got roughly 150% of my weight. I’d hoped for a better score, but that was that. Eijiro’s Hardening didn’t really help him, either.
“Wow! You hit 540 kg?!” The boy with straight black hair asks my previous opponent, with six arms. “You’re such a beast!”
“Yeah, like a muscly octopus!” A boy with strange purple hair adds. The six-armed one seems grateful, but doesn’t say anything.
Next was the standing long jump. Again, the water helped, and I managed to beat that purple-haired boy in front of me, who turned as we waited in line, eyeing me up and down creepily before smirking and giving me a thumbs up. I glared at him. “I’ll report you to M-Mrs. Yamada if you do that again.” I growled. He’d shut up and kept his eyes to himself after that. For some reason, I still didn’t want my classmates to know their homeroom teacher was my mom.
We continued to the next test; repeated side jumps.
Katsuki and that purple-haired creep actually got the best scores. Explosions that rocked the ground and a mound of purple balls (That apparently made up the creep’s hair. Gross!) on either side of the marked area made those scores possible. “Impressed yet?” The purple guy asks, winking. I scoff.
“Not in the slightest.” I then watch Eijiro, who went right before me this time. He got a pretty decent score, and then it was my turn. I grin and use the water to make walls to push off of. I got a pretty good score, even if I was tired afterwards. Next was the rest of the class doing the ball throw.
Ochaco got the best score, literally sending the ball to space. Mom holds up the phone, her ‘throw’ reading as an infinity symbol. “That’s insane!” The blonde-black streak boy exclaims. “How is that even possible?!”
“Her Quirk makes things float. It kept floating.” I explain simply, then it was Izuku’s turn. I swallow. So far, he wasn’t doing too well. He stood in the circle staring at the ball for a moment, then his face hardens in determination and he launches the ball. Mom steps forward, eyes glowing red. I gasp. What was she doing? The ball only goes 46 meters.
“Hey, what gives?” Izuku asks, staring at his hands. “I was trying to use it just now…” Izuku can then only flinch in shock before Mom’s in his line of sight.
“I erased your Quirk.” She calls, and Izuku gasps upon seeing her eyes. Mom then grits her teeth. “The judges for this exam were not rational enough.” She continues, her capture weapon floating around her head as well as her hair. “Someone like you should never be allowed to enroll at this school.” I flinch. That was harsh. Really harsh. However, as Mom’s student, I had no place to protest, really.
“Wait..you did what to my- -gah!” Things click and Izuku reels. “Those goggles...Yamada...I know you!” He continues. “You’re Present Mic’s wife! You can look at someone and cancel out their powers. You’re the Erasure Hero; Eraserhead!” Mom merely keeps glaring at him as the others murmur around me.
“I’ve never heard of her.” Eijiro muses.
“I have. She’s prefers to work under the radar.” I explain simply, then watch as Mom continues talking.
“You don’t have control over your Quirk. Were you planning to break your bones again, counting on someone else to save your useless body?” Izuku shakes his head.
“N-no! That’s not what I was trying to do- -ah!” Mom’s capture weapon snaps around his shoulders and drags him forward.
“No matter what your intentions are, you would be nothing more than a liability in battle.” Mom growls in a terrified Izuku’s face. “I’m sorry, Midoryia, but with your power, there’s no way someone like you can become a hero.” That does it. Student or no student, I had to do something.
“Mom, enough!” I bark, and it takes several seconds before I realize what I’d called her. Shit.
Guess the cat’s out of the bag now...
