Day 1 - Dragon Age Origins

I was challenged and completed the #100HeadsChallenge, 100 portraits in 10 days. I’ll be sharing them in bits and pieces, the majority was done in pencil so I’m gonna work on them with other media before I’ll post them!

I haven’t made 10 a day every day, sometimes less, sometimes more, but I’ll share ‘em 10 at a time.

Alistair Would Fight

I always thought it was so out of character of Alistair to just give up his relationship with the Warden.

I used to understand him wanting to break it off with her because he will have to marry again and doesn’t want her hurt. Except now with Inquisition over with and absolutely no queen by his side (if Alistair rules alone and without Anora), I cannot help the head cannon that has cropped into my mind.

My Warden is an Amell who stays with Alistair as his mistress.

Alistair refuses to marry another woman. Damn his advisors, he loves one woman and will never betray her. So he starts researching. Looking for the law that explicitly states a mage cannot be Queen. 

It takes a long time, years even, to scour through the entirety of the law books. Alistair refuses to let his people work on this with him, wanting to find, or not find as it is, on his own. He doesn’t even tell Amell, whose now left to find a Cure for their taint. 

And finally after more than a decade of searching he’s found nothing. The law only ever states that one must be of noble birth. Alistair had asked Hawke if he could get the Amell’s reinstated as nobles in Kirkwall years before. His Warden, his love, his Amell was a noblewoman. 

Amell returns after years away, battle worn, weary from traveling, but blessedly cured. She tells of her return weeks before she arrives, but neither of them are ready for the reunion. 

They struggle to restrain themselves in front of the court. Throwing each other looks of passion, longing, and love. How long has it been since they’ve been held by one another? She administers the Cure, hands lingering a bit longer than proper on Alistair’s person. 

When he is cured they are finally permitted to retire from court, but Alistair doesn’t leave not yet. Instead he turns to his love a huge grin on his face that tells her he’s hiding something from her. She’s suspicious but amused by his antics. It’s amazing to be back in his presence. 

But when Alistair get’s down on one knee, in front of the entirety of his court she’s dumbstruck. His cheeks flare and he bows his head, a boysih habit he’s never been able to break whenever he was feeling self-conscious, and asks her “Will you marry me, Lady Amell?” 

Her first reaction is to deny that he doesn’t even have the authority to ask her that. She’s a mage, she’s not allowed to share the crown with him. The laws forbid it. 

Alistair’s grin just get’s bigger and he shakes his head no, no the law says nothing about mages not being allowed to rule. He’s checked and triple-checked. He knows without a doubt he can ask for her hand in marriage. 

Amell is nearly beside herself when she launches herself at Alistair. She doesn’t care that she just knocked the King of Ferelden on his backside, because he had asked her to marry him.  She’s kissing him everywhere on his face, peppering in little yeses, crying profusely because she never thought she’d be able stand by his side as his Queen.  

Alistair is crying as well, overjoyed by her acceptance of his proposal and having her in his arms again. The court is in awe, a few grumbling that no mage should rule it’s not right. But there are those who see the honest to the Maker love that is between them, and do not have the heart to turn up their noses at the fact that she is a mage. 

So ya, this is my non-angsty happy ending head cannon for my main Warden and Alistair.
