Morning All. Square 1 of my patchwork is Herodias (I think), mother of Salome. Whenever I looked at the painting by Caravaggio (or is it?) I assumed it was Salome's mother, the way she leans over Salome, and she plays such a big part in the story. But after searching online until the early hours, the only mention she gets is 'the old woman'. And I also discovered that there is some doubt as to whether the painting was painted by Caravaggio. I love the way she sadly observes Picasso's treatment of Esther Williams, whilst also being given the eye by Marlene Dietrich, and an oblivious Judy Garland stares out into her youthful distance.
